As a white belt with useless takedown skills and a bad knee (partial tears pcl acl) i was limited to pulling guard. Took this is to my next training and it worked every time (against my fellow white belts) which was awesome. Boom! Straight into side control. Thankyou chewy!
One thing to be careful about it, you will have to adapt the entry to no-gi, there are other ways to set it up, like from overhook or neck hold. Pure shoulder "hold" is slippy. Other than that it is pretty standard push-pull and obviously good, a wrestler or high level practicioner will stop it though.
As a former wrestler I'm jealous of your being able to grab the gi to help in takedowns. One thing that might help physically weaker people is to push into your opponent and when they push back redirect their force to snap them down.
I weighed 210 and wrestled in the 215 and 275lbs weight class, i was more nimble than most heavyweights but average or maybe slightly below in the 215 class. High levels of nimbleness and agility aren't required, anticipation and muscle memory matter more.
@@michaelm8138 that as well, tbh, "sharp" covers that all, been slacking on that recently myself tbh as we havent wrestled amongst friends in a while, got injured last 3 times as we Just went straight in 😅😅😭
I tried this in a Comp last weekend. The takedown worked, it was surprisingly easy to put on and take control. I didn't win the fight though as the guy got me in a good arm triangle. But that didn't matter, because after this I feel so much more confident with takedowns. Thanks Chewy! Brrrrrrrgh
Tried this while rolling last week and loved it. I ended up doing more like a single leg TD than a knee pick but it was still awesome. I wanna open with this instead of trying to pull guard like every other white belt.
I so very often find myself in positions I have no idea how to attack or defend... Then I see something like this and it's so easy and simple. Jiu jitsu really is a superpower!! I am going on month three and loving it. Thanks chewy for helping out us old ass new guys.
Yah, it's funny. BJJ is like riding a bike. It doesn't make sense to the layman that it works, but when you get the technique right you have so much control.
I watched this probably 10 times over the past week. I’m one month in and got my first takedown tonight! Didn’t know how to finish it afterwards… but I survived the next 3 minutes after without tapping lol. Thanks for the info!
I really just need any takedown because my freinds don't know jiu jitsu or any other martial art so I've alreday broken 3 arms with the armbar, Good luck!
@@icecold4085 just my opinion... I think the beard is awesome too... Really just depends on the look you're going for... Came here looking for a takedown I could do that was actually on par with my skill level. (White belt, 2.5 months of training). I can’t wait to try this tomorrow night.
Here’s my best tip for those of you looking to learn take down and what I did. Just get in touch with some wrestlers from your local high school or maybe even guys who you know wrestled in high school and have them teach you a little bit. I walked into my high schools wrestling practice one day and talked to the coach and he happily let me train with them. Literally took my game to a new level. Now granted I was in high school and I’m sure a lot of you aren’t so you can’t do that. But if the options available I would take it.
Thank you! I’m a white belt and bjj is my first ever martial art like the only sport I’ve ever done beforehand was football most the others had wrestling backgrounds so I needed this ^^
This video is 6 years old and is still wicked! It's crazy that you can make a video, I can watch your video, not practice at all and hit it time and time again in live rolls!
No problem good thoughts A lot of times I actually put into this to maybe help them on that level change later on make sure they're doing that drop step thanks bud
Hey Chew sir how's it going? My name is Don-Trell Brown I've just competed in my 1st ever Bjj Tournament (Tap Cancer Out) in Connecticut Saturday 3/31/2018 just after 2weeks of training and 3 days of watching your videos mainly this one in which I watched maybe 18 times I did this move in 2 of my 3 matches I had and it worked Chew-Tastic. lol I started Bjj 2 weeks ago because of my daughter who is 6 (SpideyGirl A.k.a Bella) who has been training for 3 plus months who said she wanted me to compete in the tournament to see how I'll do so I did and I won all 3 of my matches and took the Gold in my Bracket. I competed in the (Super Heavyweight division) But yea enough of my Life story (blah blah blah) I just wanted to say thank you sir for the tips. P.S keep the Chip tooth

Just had my first competition and struggled with my single leg takedown kept getting guulitoned! Going to give this a try over the next few weeks preparing for my second comp at the end of the month! Do you have anything for no gi regarding takedowns? As always love the content thanks man!
I think this can be easily adapted to No-Gi by hooking the neck instead of grabbing collar, and locking your hand around their elbow, then down to wrist instead of grabbing the Gi sleeve. From there, should be the same movements.
Hey could you or someone explain how to do it no gi? I am pretty sure I have it, I just want to confirm. I will ask my coach later but I'd like other people's take and opinion as well. Thank you. Regards. Ibrahim
I have not wrestled before I’m blue belt in bjj I make 3 points of contact for takedowns I’m always standing I never shoot not strong always gets stopped

Instead of bjj u should also learn silat it has some good ground techniques that u can use on the ground
So bjj+silat is the best for the streets bjj for takedowns and silat for destroying ur opponent
But silat is for both ground and standing

For this takedown, with overhook or neck hold as setup. It's harder, there are different no-gi throws too.
Learn simple takedowns from wrestling and then just doing them in bjj (gi or nogi it doesn't matter) is much better
