I remember watching this when it came out, as a novice grappler. I made it a goal to learn and hit every sweep on the list. With the exception of two or three, I can tell you 7 years later that I accomplished the goal. I still look at it time to time to rekindle a memory, or just realize how far I've come- and how far I've yet to go. Thanks.
That's awesome, congratulations :)
I agree with you. I do the same. Thanks Jason.
Been coming back to these to remind me of the options year after year. Almost at black belt!
I have been watching since 2015
These videos are a fucking gold mine...
Love me some Jason Scully videos. As a white belt, it's like drinking from a firehose, but it shows me how deep you can go in this game and it is very exciting.

You got to do everything if you want to be an all around fighter.
If anyone says negative shit bout this video they are straight up hating
Actually, the attacks are very loose and should be tighter. But it is an amazing video.

As I have benefitted greatly from this I will do a quick numbered list of the techniques. Might do the same for the other videos as well. I only counted 50 techniques but it's possible the 51st could be found in the two "angles" detailed in the Reverse DLR section. Big ups to Jason Scully for putting out these videos, I really vibe with them and have a special approach to learning from them.

Hello Jason, my name is Marcelo, i was a jiu jitsu practioneer at Carloson Gracie academy in Copacabana back in the 80', and also trainned with the Great Master De La Riva there in Copacabana also, on that time only six or seven people trainning, can you imagine?
I can tell you that you are one of the highest level jiu jitsu fighters i ever saw, light, eficient and using perfectely the levers.
I please very much for this uncredible video
Bro your a Brazilian senator?
This guy is on a whole different level.
He makes them look so easy, he's got a lot of fluidity
grantsdaman01 he is a black belt 😂
2018 and this stuff is still my reference. Thanks Jason!
crazy! this is the most technical bjj guy I have ever seen
when you train hard at one thing you can become a master at that one thing...but I prefer to train many things and be good not a master but good so it take more time
Why am I just seeing this guys videos on RUclips now.
So much to learn on my dummy
Every time I come back to this video to see what I could have done better, I unlike and then re-like this video just to feel like I liked this video one more time
i learned nothing, too advanced for me. very entertaining though
3:56 had me shook.
a list of names for all the sweeps would be golden! :)
I'm about to sit down and break it down on paper, I think that will be the best way
Thank you for this video I just got my 3rd stripe on my white belt I'm very proud of that everyone is used to my scissor sweeps at my gym so this is very helpful, I will surprise a few people after this
WONDERFULL THANKS FOR COMING UP WITH SUCH WONDERFUL TECHNIQUES IN JUST A FEW MINUTES :D
These are excelent reference videos.
Definitely gunna start working on some of that de la Riva - x guard!
Nicely done. I watch this daily.
Thanks to this video, got a sick x guard sweep today while rolling. Was in closed guard, scissor sweep wasn’t working too well but the other guy was off balance when he stood up so I went around got my hooks around his knee, pulled his other knee and ankle forward and rolled him just like that, then got on mount. Super satisfying to hit a sweep in live rolling !
man that was awesome! especially for me cause my attention span is short so a lot of awesome techniques really fast is very fun for me
Oldie but goodie. I remember being new and this blew my mind. Now as a 4 stripe purple belt, I still feel like I have so much to learn.
Wow this was nice, out of al these sweeps there is only one I know of that he didn't do. lol but its kindaa more illegal in comps but you can get away with it very easy.
Last but not least: my favorite sweep is also yours, but I didn't grab the pants to apply it. I really believe it can be more effective this way. Thanks man!
One thing is strange! You didn't show the "basic" De La Riva sweep!!! The one the man himself does! I only noticed it on my second seeing of this AMAZING video.
Fantastic. I was captivated throughout. Just beautiful to watch. So many techniques in such a short time.... I really think you've helped people appreciate what a true art form this is!!
This is discouraging to watch for a white belt. I was looking for a few guard sweeps, and now I am just confused. Information overload! Awesome job.
Tbh i rarely see someone who actually knows whats doing.. but i must admit.. you know your stuff.. Basically everything u showed is fcking working if done at the right time at the right circumstances... not like 95% of the bjj videos.. where black belts shows stupid stuff which works only on willing opponent. You have my respect, and my gratitude for your work.
bro, you are fucking awesome !!!! thanks for the vid.
Pure gold is a small phrase for you man
This "such and such in 7 minutes" style of videos are great. Thanks for taking the time to compile them. Sometimes grapplers forget that there's a wide option of things for situations. We need to be reminded of the options sometimes to keep them fresh in our brains. You're awesome man.
very helpful I subscribed
You are the most awesome creature on this world... keep posting everything that comes into your mind, these videos are awesome
That's a lot of training, you should be there. But its just a belt. Why don't you go take white belt gold in a competition then real quick? Do you want to be the worst blue belt? I'm sure your black belt is taking care of you. It doesn't matter if you can tap people though, thats a part of the chess game. It happens. I guess i'm just the kind of guy that would rather BE a blue belt instead of GET a blue belt.
Anyone who trains Judo or traditional (Japanese) Jiu Jitsu & can't understand the difference between those & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu needs to watch this video. Its all about the guard in BJJ the evolution of the guard. Judo guys spend so much time on how to get the fight to the ground they forget to work the ground. You would never see a Judo guy pull guard in competition because they don't have very many guard options. But in BJJ most guys pull guard because they have skills to win off there back.
As far as I know, yes. I try to be prepared for everything which in jujitsu is very difficult without years of mastery over it. Karate for me was easy. Jujitsu requires you to be five steps ahead and to know every move they are going to make and how they transition into it. As I said before, if he sprawls use a hip sweep and move into side guard. As for attack I am inexperienced and you should consult your sensei.
Underhook under his right leg at the center with your right arm if it is your strong arm. overhook his left arm and pull your head and look where you are going to sweep and roll over while pulling his leg close and as you were trying kick his left leg with your knee as you roll. Looking above where you are going is critical. If you really need it, I will try to post a video on it and as usual nothing is 100% in a fight.
Great video as always! I only wish you managed your mailing list as good as your bjj moves Jason, because I unsubscribed 10 times and still receive your e-mails ...
can someone please help me.
What sweep can i do if the guy is just stalling laying ontop of me in the guard holding my head not doing anything. no posture nothing. I tried to kick his knee with my leg and roll to the same side but it didnt work as well as i wanted.
What you see on RUclips gives you ideas but in real life as a white blue and maybe a purple belt you ain't gonna pull many of them sweeps on by learning from at outline video you need mat time and it all comes down to your bodies flexibility and size a16/17 stone man ain't gonna do half them sweeps
Excellent, I'm 47 y/o and have been in Martial Arts since I was 13. Jason, excellent and smooth techniques. A few would be cumbersome but in the heat of action, sometimes cumbersome throws off the opponent. Very nice. I rarely commend any modern day martial artists but you I must. Excellent!
his videos are more for reference. of course it's best to drill 1-3 at a time and master them before moving on.
I do bjj, mma and other jujitsu and it doesn't stop you biting or gouging back, it just gives something extra that your opponent might not have. Basically a conditioned street fighter with extra moves.
hey help me out i go to a gym where there are only 4 white belts not including me and i can beat them all i want to grapple a blue belt cause i beat him 4 out of 8 times should i keep grappling him or the white belts
Shit man ... I wanna leave work now and go try these out ... WHAAAAAAAT!!!!
You are a Master of Sweeps! OSS
how many variatios of the pendulum/flower sweep are there? Its usually what I go for before I try an armbar, but my team mates have grown savy. Guess I should learn more sweeps, Hey look 51 sweeps!
tapping out blue belts while i wear my tan white belt is my form of survival. I do this with the FUNDAMENTALS i have learned over the 2 plus years that i have been training 3-4 nights per week.
1000thumbs up toJASCUL and his series of clips in youtube! Thanks greatly for sharing!
Some places you take one year and don't teach you(maybe because they don't now it) 10%of these!
Jason, like all of your videos this is awesome. The only two you are lacking are x number of leg locks in x number of minutes and x number of ways to the back in x number of minutes
It is not the matter of being strong. Im pretty weak myself and I have found out that the angles of techniques are pretty damn important! Just believe yourself and you're mentally prepared
A1 level ground technique.
didn't see that much
in UFC.
Im a white belt who has been training for two years. Starting to get frustrated because i am good enough to tap blue belts bur not good enough to be a blue belt. :/
My first class I rolled with a 57 year old woman a third of my weight. I was totally dominated for the full ten minutes. Best demo of the nature of the sport I can imagine.
Thanks for the video. I pulled off two sweeps tonight by just solely watching this video multiple times. But, then I got owned by an 80 year old man for two rounds. LOL
I think I come back to these little compilation videos more often than anything else in might BJJ RUclips archive
Great vids. I'm a blackbelt and a lot of these moves I haven't done in a long time and some I havent dont at all, nice to have such a good reference. thanks
there was a lot of spinning and because i do jiu jitsu I will try and put one of your handy guard sweeps in to action were did you learn all these sweeps?
I meant kick with you leg not knee, sorry and if he sprawls overhook his left arm with your right and hip check him and roll over towards the left.
its 1:47 am here in the philipines and i really itching to try out if i could nail some of this techniques.. i really need a practice partner.. now!
i would love to watch a video of you demonstrating escapes from back mount, mount and side contol. im a white belt, so i get caught there everyday for now
Amazing video dude. I love your stuff and am officially a super fan. I'll buy your DVD day one.
not necessarily my friend is a judo black belt and i'm a bjj black belt. his guard is very good. judo can be just as effective on the ground.
hahaha this video rules. I love watching things like this where people show how many different things you can do all basically at the same time. sometimes my professor will do that with submissions and I just laugh because the person he is doing it to is so fucked. Nice video
This is a totally ridiculous comment.... This video is way better than porn could ever be. Don't even put the two in the same sentence.
can you make videos about bjj fundamentals pls? a lot of this stuff is just you doing crazy ass moves without any explanations. thx!
Just whenever I got confident about my ground game..... I watched this video.... Definitely need to work on my ground game!!! :P
Dude, you area beast!!!! Very creative.. .in the heat of a fight, this would absolutely work!!!!! Need that extra ideas. AWESOME!!!!
Fundamentals and Survival are what makes you become a blue belt. Getting a submission on someone doesn't mean you know basics..
Haha you're right. Old man roll is a bit awkward sometimes. Even more when they smash you.. It happens for me as well :)
what about the inverted guard there are a rediculous amount of sweeps from thier and also the rubber guard has quite a few
Yeah the amount you can move a foot over the hip is really left up to the ref and they don't give you any warning, auto DQ
Hey man. When i do Bjj, i feel like im not strong enough, or my partner grapple too hard. My techniues never works almost.
Jason Scully could you do a video specifically on moves and techniques from Butterfly Guard as it is a Guard I use often but sometimes don't know what to do so if you can make a video specifically for Butterfly Guard that would be great keep up the good work man
Push the right knee as you pull the left arm from butterfly position
someone in a class the other day said "I hate sweeps. I prefer to be on top." Does this make any sense to anyone????
5:15 That's definitely a knee reap and illegal in IBJJF, you can't cross either of your feet over the hip like that
Please post some solo drills please some conditioning and strengthening solo drills. Thank you. So i can learn from you
I wasn't trying to call him out, these are all sick moves and I wish I had sweeps like that. I was just clarifying
where is this mans academy i gota road trip from oakland california and train with this man scully for president
I wanna roll with you. I know I would lose a lot, but I think even losing to you would be a hell of a lot of fun!
Could you make a video with guard pass counters/defenses ?
hey i watched the second one in a purple belt competition. does anyone know the name of it so i can learn it?
Hey loving this vids. They are awesome. Anywhere we can get a breakdown of your vids?? Thanks very much
Thanks man. some nice variations. dvd would be nice. WOuld like to see a pass for regular inverted guard
Nice video! I love how most of these high percentage sweeps allow a transition into total leg control (for leg locks) and if you don't like it you get a dominant position
this kind of videos help to win all the tournaments!!! hope I can prerapre for the abu dhabi selective
Thank you for making a great video and for your commentary. Your knowledge is incredible!
Jasculus, can't wait for your series of DVD's that's going to come out soon. Looking forward to it!
the only difference between a black belt and a white is who started first and who stays the course
Take note of the first few sweeps demonstrated, note down their names and then just work on those.
too much information...one or two techniques at a time is the best way ju-jitsu in my opinion
Damn for some reason these montage and demonstration oriented videos help me way more than detailed instructionals fuck yeah
Awesome!! Just reminded me of all the sweeps I have forgotten. Thank you!
This channel deserves to have million subscribers
Nomenclature, man! Please list the moves in order, in text, it would help people out a lot!
Doesn't really matter. Besides, a 16/17 stone man needs to lose about 50 pounds anyway.
