I have seen this car in a car magazine at one point when I was a kid. It made me go out and buy a Revell model and build one back in around 1969. I might even have that magazine around still.
I sold that Anglia to Dustin, I have pictures of it with the interior and roll bar intact. It came from Joe McCoys estate in Jasper Al. Joe was an NHRA tech inspector for probably 4 if not 5 decades
I have a 1948 Anglia gasser , MightyMouse2 from the 60s. Mine has the same frontend tilt brackets, and lots of the same parts. Mine has been I'm my possession since 40 years ago. I am actually getting it ready for Street duty with a big block 454 as we speak. When it was raised it had a small block Chevrolet with four speed and now going to Street duty is going to be 454 with 400 turbo 9 inch rear.
Great video, I love Anglias as I had one myself, so I know what those stock frames are like (mine had a 2X3 tube frame) and your word "Sketchy" is an understatement!! That is an awesome car, a little dangerous but awesome!!
My girlfriend's older brother, when I was in high school in the Dallas Texas area had an Anglia like that. It was kind of a brown color. Had a blown Chrysler hemi. Crazy borderline uncontrollable! Fast! I don't think I ever saw it make a straight pass down the strip. Fun to watch!
Quite a survivor---My Favorite era --- Thank You & the Owner for showing this to us. Definitely one of My top 10 RUclips *Rides.* There Is "still hope" finding this stuff.
Indeed we were using Jaguar rear axles and Vauxhall H/A Viva fronts. Now a days finding parts is getting difficult and narrowed Ford 9” & strut front ends are becoming more “popular”. We now have the Outlaw Anglias that are running consistent 8 & 7 second 1/4 miles. Well worth checking them out on RUclips.
Very cool video. The Mad Striper did several cars for a good friend of mine and he was extremely talented. It was awe-inspiring to watch him work, at least to me. I tried to find out some info about him a while back. From what I found, his name was Jack Baldwin and at one time, he had a shop on Memorial Drive (Stone Mountain) outside I-285. He striped my friends cars in Tucker, GA at his Dad's gas station which would have only been a few miles from his shop.
I work in Gainesville! Sadly, no more tracks in this immediate area these days. The 3 closest tracks are all 2 hours away in each direction. That's a very cool Anglia! Nice to see some of those classics are still out there being cared for!
Having grown up in the 70s car culture, this channel floats my boat and this is the real life version of the classic Revell kit! I'd love to have this as it would definitely beat building the model version!
Lol I want one of those Henry Js like the model (can't recall if it was a revell or monogram) As a little kid I thought that the Henry J came that way from the factory 😁
Wow! I live between Gainesville and alto ga. I never would suspect a prize like that to be tucked away in these parts. I do remember Jeff I and the strip over around cumming ga.
The”Mad Striper” was Jack Baldwin who lived in Stone Mountain Ga. He striped lots of cars and motorcycles including one of mine and several of my friends his artwork was great.
Back around 1978-79 my ex brother in law had one of these, can't remember a whole lot about the car, I think the car was light green, glass front end, halibrand spindle mount wheels, that's all that I remember... don't know what happened to the car, back then we were into Mustangs, Camaros & Chevelle's... keep up the great work!! Be safe!! God Bless!!!
Love the Anglia always love the cars and panel wagons also Willis coupes and pick ups I miss the old gassers from the 60s and 70s get history on that Anglia a real time capsule
Very interesting 👍 I have a picture of a kellison that raced at Atmore raceway this past weekend. Wouldn’t have known what it was if not for your show, thanks .
Nice! That Kellison you saw at Atmore is a really neat car. It was based out of the Nashville area, but didn't run all that often in the 1960's. My dad and I bought the original magnesium American's and aluminum ET five spoke wheels off of that car when the owner switched over to Cragar wheels and new slicks. We put the ET's and M&H piecrust slicks on the back of one of our dragsters and sold the front wheels to Todd Oden, who runs with the Southeast Gassers Association.
Not many cars cooler than the Anglia when it comes to race cars (especially Gassers) a friend of mine used to race a 46 Anglia. Unfortunately he died when he hit a tree with his 66 Comet Cyclone. Thanks for the video, it reminded me of my old friend
Nice find. I seen a pair of these at Cruising the Coast in Biloxi Mississippi a couple years back, one had a 283 Chevy and the other had a 327 Chevy in them they were brothers that had them. I always thought that they made cool looking drag cars.
My car is metal flake gold with purple laced trim. It was painted in 1964 or 5 when it was turned into a Gasser drag car. My aluminum that was on the inside of the car I still have the clutch brake pedals I still have my car has been inside stored for years waiting on me to put it together for Street use. I have three English a pro street car, the Gasser mighty mouse, and a steel body
Great channel, I love the history of these old drag cars. I really like the idea of bringing them back to life and putting them back on the track..... priceless!!
What a great find, it would be nice to see it restored to the way it was when first built. There’s literally hundreds of hot rod Anglias (Populars) still here in the U.K.. I used to keep a register twenty years ago of all the variants here and around the world when I started the Popular Front which was a part of the NSRA U.K.. I’ve built & worked on many over the years. As a point of interest they weren’t 4 lug, they were 5 & had rod operated brakes. Ford U.K. didn’t introduce juice brakes until the late 50’s. Thanks for sharing 👍🇬🇧

Cool find! They're still out there! The white paint under the red is interesting, as they never painted them that colour from the factory as far as I know. R.E. This has had a conversion to hydraulic brakes and 4 stud fitment, although I'm not sure on exactly what has been used here. Maybe Ford 105e or triumph?
The rearend in the Anglia isn’t of Chevy vintage or Ford. I believe that it’s the stout Pontiac that was narrowed, Pontiac 1957 era vintage. The transmixer is an M22 or BW T-10 because of the large output shaft like a Turbo 400 automatic, size of the slip yoke seal surface diameter. I also saw angle plug iron heads that would’ve been from a hot 327 in the last generation of double humps if they are of Chevy vintage. I love the gold leaf, the wheels, the car!
Spray wheel acid; particularly from a good auto detailing supplier like Zep or Automagic, on those aluminum slots and they'll look brand new. Works great for rusty chrome rims also. Don't spray on anything that has clear coat.
It needs the 1960s GM style blower housing, they all used it really GM Detroit blower housing back in the day. Period correct is way more important than making it new again. Like the lettering on the side of that car. No matter how much I see it, all the new vinyl lettering and whatever they use today, cannot compare with the lettering of the 60s and 70s. It's usually a dead giveaway to it's authenticity and age.
It has been making the rounds on Facebook lately. I wrote an article about the car for Hot Rod magazine, and it's been shared out quite a bit in the groups and pages.
Note that Halibrand sold their magnesium wheels in as-cast condition, which was quite popular and probably the way these wheels were bought, or they could be bought polished or polished later. I suspect these were never polished because the finish is so even across each wheel and each wheel compared to the others. They COULD be polished now. But I would soda blast them and run them. The only area of the wheels I would think of polishing is the bead.
