@@stevenlaxton3618 they're probably better stewards than these collectors that just see dollar signs. Alot of times the old guys will give them to you for next to nothing IF they like you
I collect pocket knives and most people think it's dumb so when I come across someone that's interested it's fun to show them. I could tell he was very happy showing you his stuff.
MAN , ARE YOU KIDDING ? THIS TOOK ME BACK TO GRASSROOTS DRAG RACING , AND SLOT CARS . GOD BLESS THAT MAN FOR SAVING EVERYTHING . AND THANK YOU FOR YOU STORIES .
I had the pleasure to work with Tony and his brother, I believe his name was Doug, not sure , at Ford Motor Company's Louisville Assembly Plant on the metal touch up line in the mid 90's. Great guy, and as someone commented, he's always smiling. He was a drag car "nut" back then. What a great surprise to come across this video as I haven't seen him in many, many years. I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for taking the time to do it and feature such a Great Guy.
My dad was a design engineer for Chrysler in the early 60s till about 68. I remember him building a front engine rail for Dan Blocker. My dad told him I was a fan so when we went to meet him Dan brought a big white hat for me. Racing folk have always been special .
I love these kind of collections!!! And the fact I'm a diehard ford guy makes this collection even better!!! Stay great and stay humble my friend, I hope to see more great content and to learn some more history of the old days
When I lived in Missouri, we had a fellow in town much like this collector. He was over 70 years old by his own admission. I remember a fiberglass Ford Falcon that he would take to Kansas City for street racing. Between the tail lights was lettered "Old Man Playing Cars". It was very rare for him to be beat.
I never had any respect for Fords - until I bought a 1972 Fastback Mustang off a lady. It just so happened it had a 429 SCJ and a C6 auto from the factory. That car gave me respect for Fords :)
It amazes me how much stuff a guy can collect over the years When you start You don't even think about how much it's gonna be worth 40 years later Really cool thanks for the video
Great video as always. Wouldn't mind seeing more on the 55 Thunderbird when he starts working on it. I'm restoring a 56 Chevy BelAir hardtop that was used to run moonshine in the 60s. Had a 396 with 3 deuces and a 4 speed with 4.11 gears at one time.
Love to see people's work benches that look like mine!! Really enjoyed the tour!! Lot of COOL stuff!!! I hope he lives to 100 and has excellent health so he can enjoy all he labor!
All I can say is Wow. What an believable collection of cool stuff. He seems like a great guy. I can’t even imagine the knowledge this guy has in his head. Great Great video.
Great collection. Minor point, the Anglia "Tennessee Taxi" is actually a Ford Prefect. Anglia's were 2doors and Prefect's were 4doors. Still great collection.
1:10 Wow! The car is called "Foul Play". But the awesome, killer, coolest ever, hauler truck has the greatest name for a race team I've ever heard of......."SCUMBAG RACING!" LOL. HAAA! Ha ha ha! Just EPIC! The truck is SO cool! Style at it's most! So many incredible things. I'd sure love to see the giant slot car set up he mentioned was in that one trailer.
As a Brit’ & founder of the Popular Front, that one caught my eye. I’m fairly sure they were sold like that to the United States, I’ve seen the odd ones with the Prefect front end but not many. It’s good to see a survivor from the early days of Drag Racing.
You hit it out of the park with this one. !! I know he is not that old, but I hope he lives long enough to get it all done - what a bucket list !! When you were showing the slot cars, I think the Kendall GT-1 merc funny car was on the table . What a beautiful collection of drag cars & old school parts.! Thanks for sharing this one!
Great video! I met Tony at Beach Bend a couple years ago, really nice guy! Talked with him about his Taxi drag car, my friend has a Prefect drag car also.
I just found your channel, and as a 45 year old man, I'm watching this video as tears are rolling down my face. Please thank him for saving as much of the drag racing history as he has. This was amazing.
Thanks for showing us around, it’s great to see these old cars being preserved and enjoyed. Look forward to the next video. All the best from the U.K. 😎👍
I went to look at a 68 El Camino (for $2500) north of Phoenix about 20 yrs ago and this guy had more intake manifolds in more configurations than I have ever seen: I don't remember anymore but there were shelves and shelves and shelves...the carburetors were in places (on those manifolds) I've never seen before or since. If I remembered you would probably think I'm lying. He had other toys too but this video made me think of that.
WOWZER! Fantastic video of Mr. McConnel's collection! My favorite has to be the Mercury turnpike cruiser! As a young kid growing up, the 55 and 56 Mercs were my favorites. Just mind blowing what this man has amassed over the years. Thanks so very much for sharing this awesome video with us! Blessings and cheers from Motown/Dearborn.
I met him racing slot cars before and he's a great guy.....On a different note slot cars are an amazing hobby that doesn't get enough exposure. I started racing in the 90s as a kid and it's where I met several lifelong friends and racing buddies. We went from slot cars to dirt bikes/quads then real cars. But strangely enough we still race the things in the off season and I know a lot of racers that do the same including the owner of the track I race at. The drag racing scene is crazy too and it's a fun way to stay sharp on the tree and we've got some big names that show up. But they like to stay quiet.
1/2 dozen great name awsome car Tony is the perfect owner for this stuff! he actually uses the cars/can be started. altho we only live so long can't put every car back together
Nice footage well done love the old drag cars and the photos i just know one of theses days im going to see one of my old drag cars on here and i used to be into slot cars belive it or not love those things would go from one hobby center or hyde out track and race um. Change the wire whined on the armatures and they would fly. Cool times!!nice collection he had.
My dad bought a 55 Belair sedan gasser back in the 80s for 125 bucks that was raced out at famoso here in California back in 69 and 70 still has the kern county inspection stickers on it
That gentleman was smiling like a little kid while showing off his collection. God bless him.
I noticed a little chuckle when he started foul play up haha ... happy fella ..

I had a feeling that 1960 Ford sleeper was a moonshine car! Cool, Tony just jumps in his cars and starts them up for yah!
Oh man, he loved to fire them up! I'm sure his neighbors are used to it haha.
I love older people who love the old drag cars. With out yall we would never see all this history. Thanks
We just need more of them to stop just hoarding and start showing and telling so the history can stop dying with so many old guys
