    I started using jello powder. It makes the hot dogs a little tougher and rubbery. They never come off the hook

    I just tried hotdogs, cherry koolaid, garlic(jar minced), and I took pam cooking spray and sprayed into the bag. Oils will bind with smells and extend the release of scent.
    Probably can use a bit of vege oil instead of pam.

      Any science to back that up? Berkeley claims any scented oil or oil based scents do not work whatsoever

    On amazon i found this REALLY thin nylon thread (similar to magic thread but way better) and i use it to secure fragile bait to my hooks. I have never lost bait

      That works really well with livers and hotdogs. Baits that tear easily. It’s a good idea.

    One of the greatest baits of all time for any fish are slices of crab meat covered in garlic powder. Fish love the taste of crab meat and the smell of garlic is addictive to them. I hope you use my tip and catch the biggest fish you have ever seen!!!

      I’m sure it works. How does crab meat hold up on a hook? I’ve used shrimp and garlic and it works great too.

    The more garlic the better tho trust me and also try shrimp with koolaid and garlic it WORKS

      I know people that do both. Seems it’s a preference deal but no way to say which is more beneficial.

      well, don't forget that you've got to put the raunchy dogs on the hook still so... unless you got gloves 😄

      They aren’t that bad but yeah, it can stain your fingers with whatever color/flavor you use if you don’t have gloves.

    You should use cherry instead it’s apparently better and I’ve seen others put cherry jello with some oil for it to stick better and for the hook problem you should use a clip with a trouble hook take off the hook and from the top push in the hotdog skin down and re attach the hook

      @@Wadeboutdoors I was watching someone else he did a test over 200 times to see if fresh bait vs the hotdogs cherry kool aid with strawberry jello and garlic powder he said it was a 75% chance of catching something with the hotdogs he also did it with liver and breast of a chicken which I think worked better

      ​​@@emeraldfox7175 As a kid we actually did the opposite and froze them. We cut them up, froze them, and kept them in a cooler with ice packs until we were ready to bait the hooks.
      We didn't do anything with garlic powder or gatorade. Just little frozen hotdog chunks and we caught plenty of catfish.
      Compared to the video even our biggest hotdog chunks were at most about half the size. Oftentimes we'd use even smaller pieces.
      This was in residential lakes in Florida (neighborhood lakes, golf courses, and occassionally canals). We mostly caught catfish and cichlids.

      Fish don't see colors, they can smell the blood if that's the case.

      Catfish like sweet pungent smelling stuff hot dogs and garlic provide pungent smell while the Kool aid or jello powder produces the sweet aroma from what I know though catfish rely on their site something we never really knew I now have a bluegill stinger fly hanging out just underneath my main rig.

    Use a snap swivel with a treble hook , slide your your through the middle and attach it back to the swivel

    Never heard of garlic salt. Powder yes. And always red never grape. How’d you do?

      You can use any combination of those. And I took this batch out a couple times and caught maybe 10 on it total. Not too bad. It was also in a spot where other baits likely wouldn’t have done much better.

    Use a lot more garlic powder. Red koolaid, you can also try adding some onion powder as well.

      I’m not sure. I’ve never tried it. I’m sure you could as long as you gave it time to dry and cure. However, I’m not sure it would work nearly as good. I feel like it would wash off easily.

      @WadeBOutdoors it probably would wash off. However, if it does, I would still have the garlic on the hotdogs. Whenever it dried, the hotdogs toughened up and become hard. I will try it this evening and tell you if it works.

      You can use just hotdogs. The kool aid just adds another flavor and scent to it. Makes it more attractive than just plain hotdogs.
