Great list! I only have one change. I'd swap the 1792 with Elijah Craig. I must have a blind spot in my pallett as every 1792 bottle I've tried has been completely void of charactor for me.
I'm not a fan of any Jim Beam products, but I love Wild Turkey and Buffalo Trace. My daily rotation of sippers are Wild Turkey 101, Buffalo Trace, Russell's Reserve 10, and Eagle Rare 10. Yes I always have a bottle of Rare Breed and Stagg Jr on hand at all times as well.
You, sir, are a lucky man to have Stagg Jr on hand at all times. Finally got a chance to taste that and a Weller Antique 107, and I have to say they're right up there with the most fantastic whiskies I've ever put my hands on. Ups here in the frozen wastelands of Alaska we have to stand in line, once a year, just to get a chance at a Stagg Jr...BT products, in general, don't make it up here that often... ...that being said, I'm sitting on 3 Buffalo Trace, 3 Eagle Rare, 1 Weller Special Reserve, 2 Blanton's, 4 EH Taylor BiB, and 1 2020 George T Stagg...and HONORED to have been able to score them...although I had to stand in line like I was hoping to get a PS5 (4am til store open at 10am). Had to bring a couple of heat lamps and come decked out in the arctic gear to manage it.
@@jamosensei wow that's really tough to go through all that just to get Buffalo Trace products and on top of that it's only once a year. Honestly I just have Stagg Jr on hand all year because it's my semi special occasion bourbon I throw in the rotation. I get two bottles each release, two releases a year, one from a big chain retailer I've done a lot of business with in the past and one from my local mom and pop. Both of those shops also will call me and hold a bottle of Eagle Rare 10 when they get it in. My unicorns are Eagle Rare 17, George T Stagg, and Wild Turkey Revival Sherry Cask finish..I'd say since I love Eagle Rare 10 so much Eagle Rare 17 is my white whale. My favorite whiskeys truth be told are Irish single pot still i.e. Green Spot, Yellow Spot, Red Spot, Redbreast 12 CS, Redbreast 21. I love the sweet fruity flavors along with the oily mouthfeel. Also for Scotch I have Talisker 10 as a relaxing weekend change up to break up the monotony. You have a great collection. I wish you the best in expanding it!
ADHD whiskey If you're such a connoisseur , why do you recommend brands to people, instead of recommending that they age their own whiskeys? Go get yourself some White oak cut short and half inch across. You're going to want it to be able to fit into a Court Mason jar Now look up White oak roasting temperatures.. each temperature produces a different flavor. So I will roast certain sticks at the vanilla flavor temp for 3 hours. I will roast other sticks at the oakey flavor. Other sticks at the almond flavor. Once you have all your sticks done, from different batches at different temperatures. You can start building your flavor profiles. I like a couple sticks of vanilla one stick of oak one stick of almond etc etc Now place the sticks in a mason jar and cover with a fairly neutral bourbon.. might as well go cheap, you're going to be adding the flavor. So get yourself a Jim beam white label handle and try different combinations of the White oak sticks. In 48 hours you already see a drastic color change... After a couple weeks it has completely changed odor and flavor profile. You can make Jim beam white label , into sipping whiskey, your friends will compliment, thinking it's something more than it is.. because it is now. I have been doing this for years, I have yet to find an expensive whiskey, with a flavor profile and a smoothness, as good as what I produce at the house.
Get the torches and pitchforks!! World's Best Whiskey Taster my ass!! Evan Williams BIB was robbed!! ((gnashes teeth and curses)) You will rue the day when you left EW BIB off your list mister. 😆 Good List, especially the part about Knob Creek. I own and drink every single bottle recommended. My only alternate suggestions should be Old Forester 1897 or Jack Daniels Barrel Select.
Out of 101 but have the 114. Caught the covid so bee pretty screwed up since the beginning of October. Guess I got lucky with the long haul version. Oh well, I Keep on Trucking. Matt, thanks for the laughs!
So 2 Beam and 2 Russell’s products…we see where your pallet lies. No problems with the list except I’d replace one with an Old Forrester 100 or 1920 and Woodford Reserve Double Oaked.
Matt, this was an amazing video (as all of your videos are), and I heartily agree with your choices. Also, I’d love to know why you have been blessed with an incredible palate AND incredible wit that allows you to come up with a line like “deflated breast implant”.
Knob Creek Single Barrel really stands up to ice. Growing up, my parents kept a well stocked bar. My dad liked Johnny Walker , Old Grandad and Wild Turkey. This was the 70's so I don't know if the WT was 101 proof. I do remember that it came in a very fancy looking bottle.
I just ran out of my 114 and 101. I'll be restocking those this weekend. Otherwise I'm 5 for 5 on this short list. I only have about half bottle of a Knob Creek Single Barrel store pick 14+ year old left. Wish I would have stocked up before stocks got diverted to the new pricier 12 and 15 year small batches. There's a store near me that sells WT 101 minis for $1.49. I stock those too as they're great for smuggling into the movie theater. A couple of those, an IPA and a popcorn that I buy at the theater (I have to support them a little anyways) and I'm set.
Matt, you're so right. Just the other day, I thought to myself, "Self, I'd really enjoy seeing a tree." So I drove down to my local forest and wouldn't you know it, there was a tree right there in front of me. Fish in a barrel, good sir. Thanks for the video.
Matt, I think it would be fun to follow this up with a cask strength version of the same thing. Top 5 available and affordable cask strength whiskies. I see a 1792 product on that list.
Oh thank god. I'm auditor ready! I have the full list! Also have Buffalo Trace, Elijah Craig small batch and Woodford Reserve. Variety is the spice of life.
LOL….was watching this and was drinking OGD 114 at the time. Turned the bottle around … yep LOT #1. 114 is VG for the price. BTW …it’s called 1792 as that is the year KY entered the union as the 15th state.
I am living in fear of the AUDITOR showing up because I lack Knob Creek 9. As an emergency measure I will offer up my Old Forester Signature 100 as a delaying tactic while I scramble for some Knobby Niner. Have mercy on me and enjoy some pizza until I return. Please. Thank you.
Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof for $58!!!! Long Live Vermont!!!!.....although I bring it home to NY. You need to have this one on your next list!!
You should do a trash or treasure series for entry level(common) whiskeys. I never bought a WT101 because I always kind lumped it in with buying a bottle of Jim Beam or Jack. Just never did it, but I like Makers and Woodford. I love OGD114 but would never have picked it up but for your recommendation. Love the channel Matt!
Matt. How do you feel about Larceny small batch @ 92 proof. Or EC small batch @ 94 proof. Also surprised you didn't have Knob Creek 9 year @ 100 proof on your list.
God I love your videos, they always make laugh. The bourbon auditor got me really good. I just picked up an OGD114 about 10 days ago and I was very pleasantly surprised!
Well I only have two of them. The Knob Creek SB store pick I have is a great bottle. Wish I had bought several spares. The Russell's 10 year was a total let down for me. It's funky all right but not in a good way. One of the few bottles I regret buying. Maybe my example is bad? WT 101 is always good though I do not have a bottle at this time. I'm planning on getting a 114 at some point. The 1792 SB I don't plan on getting as I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the bottle of full proof I have. Again could just be a bad bottle but I'm gun Shy. The rest time will tell. Love your channel. Good and humorous review as always.
OGD 114 is a great daily sipper, but it doesn’t have a lot of “America” in the cork pop.
Will get you feeling good at 114 proof.
That Kintsugi is a good cigar!
You have to lubricate the passageway if you have a fat cork. 🇺🇸
Old Carter! Hey!!! I wish.

My OGD 114 made the Murica sound. Why didn't yours?
