These are the 5 I always try to keep available in my home bar. They are my quintessential representations of my favorite styles: Bruchladdich Port Charlotte 10, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Balcones Single Malt, Red Breast 12, and Michter's American
1. Kentucky Owl Rye batch 4 2. GTS 2020 3. Old Forester 150th batch 3 4. Mitchners Barrel Strength Rye 107.6 proof 5. EH Taylor Barrel Proof Hard to look at the bottles that I would have leave behind, I think they know I didn’t pick them 😢
Mine would probably be (in no particular order): 1. Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye 2. Peerless Double Oaked Bourbon 3. Stranahan’s Single Malt Single Barrel Barrel Proof 4. 1792 Full Proof Bourbon 5. Knob Creek Single Barrel Select Bourbon That being said, I’m glad I don’t have to choose.
The best boxes for moving are the used banana boxes from the supermarket produce department. Strong, stackable, free, abundant, built-in handles, right-sized. Crown Royal boxes are strong but lack handholds.
Having just moved this past summer, I have two comments. 1). I’ll be praying for you brother. 2). This will make for excellent Matt content for me to enjoy (selfishly).
Remus Repeal V, Bardstown Triple Blended Stave Finish I bottled/labeled myself, Sam Houston 15, Blue Note 17, and a store pick of Old Elk Rye. I would be sooooooo torn up about leaving the other couple hundred bottles though. At first I was like, all my Buffalo Trace stuff, then I starting really thinking about it, and none of them made the list surprisingly.
Right now, my 5 I would keep from my collection would be Calumet 16, Weller 12 liter size, Eleanor Wheated, Glenfiddich 12, Red Breast barrel proof. Man there's so many I'd be pissed to leave. I'd be leaving so many categories. The Eleanor Wheated is probably the only one in my collection I just cannot imagine leaving. There's a little chapel on the same grounds (Wizard Academy) as the Fang and Feather. It's where I got married, so Crowded Barrel whiskies are my anniversary pour.
Live in Tennessee by the 2 big Distilleries and visit my uphill neighboring state Kentucky. Good luck with the move Matt. You have a lot of Bourbon/Whisk(e)y to haul.
I'd keep my Stag Jr, batch 17, EC a22, Knob Creek 9 year 120 proof, Baker's 7 year 107 proof and rare breed, simple, delicious and affordable, praise G-d! Good luck on your move back east to you and your family Matt!
I'm thinking your pre-moving garage sale should be something I put on my travel calendar!! Moving to Kentucky...wow...makes total sense for you I suppose--best wishes on your planning and relocation!
I tracked down a Blanton's gold with my son's birthday and year on it. I'll give up my 4rLE, 4rBS picks, EHT BP, stagg jr's, and the entire EC BP vertical for that one bottle.
Awesome concept. I’m finding it difficult to pick 5 myself. As a follow up,, how about the five bottles you want to drink everyday until they’re empty because you don’t want to leave them behind?
I was thinking the same thing. What would be the 5 you would celebrate with friends, family, yourself in next few months and the two you would take on road trip to keep you sane by the end? The rest sold or gifted to friends so can start new collection in Kentucky.
Old Forester single barrel barrel proof, a 1.75 of Weller, Angel's Envy Rye, Colonel Taylor BiB, and Westland American Malt would be my drink 'em because I can't take them bottles.
GTS 2020 Bardstown Disco 4 JD SBBP rye Barterhouse Orphan Barrel (I paid too much for it) Cedar Ridge Silver label Single Malt Port/Chocolate (they don't release this anymore, replaced by QuintEssential)
Great idea! I will cheat a little and keep 6: Talisker 25, Glendronach 21, Arran 18, Arran 14, Arran 12 CS, Elijah Craig 12. The last 3 have all been discontinued, while the Arran 18 is the old bottling.
I would take the 4 most expensive and then order a 55-gallon plastic drum and my 5th would be a 55-gallon infinity drum, I would just make sure to leave enough room to add my current infinity bottle! No bourbon gets left behind. 🥃 Cheers
Have you found a place in Kentucky yet? I'm in waddy KY next to 3 Boys Distillery, also 15 minutes from Buffalo Trace. There's several houses for sale with land down my street. I also know a real-estate developer that has tons of properties in Frankfort and Lexington. Broken Fork LLC
My five bottles, 1) Redbreast 27 2) 2020 George T Stagg 3) Old Carter American Whiskey Batch 3 4) Old Rip Van Winkle 5) Wild Turkey Masters Keep One Tough, I need more choices.
Assuming I didn't have any bottles already, I would choose Lagavulin for scotch, Evan Williams BIB, Jameson, Bulleit Rye, and Rich and Rare Reserve. If I had to select based on my current collection: Lagavulin, Macallan 12, Crown XO, Laphroaig, and whichever bottle is fullest out of my remaining bottles (this is assuming I can replenish my stock later, otherwise refer back to the first answer).
Great vid as always, Matt! You should do a video like this but instead 5 that you can keep but 5/10 bourbons you can only drink for life. Maybe something with a matrix based on flavor/ availability/value/ being a daily drinker.
1. Chattanooga 111 (first bottle purchased at a distillery) 2. 1792 Full Proof store pick (first store pick) 3. ECBP C920 4. JD SBBP (Christmas gift) 5. Rare Breed (the spare bottle, not the open one). I don't have many bottles (30 total?), but this was still hard.
Oh man, Matt! Colorado is going to miss your presence. I hope you aren't forced to leave any behind. Solid list. If I had to pick only 5, I think I'd have a panic attack...
Matt, this is America you don’t have to choose. Come listen to my story about a man named Matt, a big giant of a man with a garage full of whisky. When one day his wife said let’s move away from here, Kentucky’s the place to be. So Matt loaded up his garage full of whiskey and moved to Louisville , Kentucky that is, bourbon and distilleries. Matt, ADHD whisky that is! So take a load off and sit a spell Matt has a garage full of whiskey to share. Ya’all come back now ya’hear! Ok I’m no lyricist but point is I don’t know what my point is except don’t leave this is America, leave no whiskey behind!
This was a fun idea! Here’s mine - Chattanooga Whiskey 111, Elijah Craig BP A122, Maker’s Mark FAE02, a signed Bardstown Bourbon Co Fusion, and an MB Rolland Single Barrel where someone accidentally added the Queen’s share of a smoked bourbon into a regular bourbon distillation and
I would keep your top 4. Then, for bottle number 5, I would take a really BIG bottle-you know like the kind they use for the water cooler at the office?-and just pour the rest of my whiskey into that. There you go. 5 bottles, including a very extra special private blend. It might be a little challenging to pour, but it’s a challenge I’d be willing to accept.
Matt! What a great video! I am honored to have a bottle of your Nassif Family Reserve pick (about 75% full) and I absolutely would include it in my 5 bottles to save (and my top 5 favorites I own)!
Great video Matt, I really liked your sentimental value picks. It's interesting to think if I only pulled 5 bottles out of my collection which ones they would be....

I may be one of the biggest Rare Breed fanboys existing, and as a statement to give expression to this, I have a unopened distillery case of LL/HA14 DSP KY 67 in my Wild Turkey shelf.
