Harry Truman saved USA navy and military with the atomic bomb my father in law would not have had my beautiful wife if he hadn't so he said Japan was dug in well he saw Hiroshima after bomb I'm 73 I'm glad he lived to reproduce
I had the same reaction initially. Let the Bonded open up for a few months and try it again. You'll think it's two different bourbons. 100% better after it opened up.
Haven't had BIB but that's exactly what happened for me with the 114. Pretty awful when I first opened it kept getting better and by the time it was empty I was ready to buy another.
Had this experience with Old Forester 100 Proof. When i first opened it there was a really bad shoe polish tyoe aftertaste. I left it alone for a week and a half and it tastes much better. I dont know if its placibo or what but to me it tasted like a completely different whiskey
Hey Matt, as a grand dad, although not TOO old, thanks for keeping it real. Agree 114 100%. I don’t reach for either very often, but we can’t reach for a top 10 every night!
The first ADHD video I watched was the one where he compared OGD BIB and The Fighting Cock bourbon then he talked about mixing them to create The Old Grand Cock cocktail. Cracked up and subbed immediately!
Watched this while sipping some OGD 114. One of my favorites recently! I’ve never had the BIB, but going to buy a bottle anyways to compare myself. Great video!
This video is why you are by far, my favorite Bourbon reviewer. Not only are you funny, but you are a very good taster. I have purchased many bottle based on your reviews and have rarely disagreed. I think you might have pulled a Seinfeld finally. They played the best of clip show BEFORE the final episode. No show is going to live up to a best of clip show. This video is following your best of 2022 show. Not a great time to taste bargain Bourbons. Keep up the great work Matt!
114 is one of the few bourbons I like better with ice or water. It’s got some sharp off putting notes. The water or ice brings out some really nice sweet notes and takes out the rough edges.
114 OGD all the way Matty! I'm actually sitting next a 1/3 full bottle of the bonded right now wondering what soda goes best with it. The things we do to get more shelf space.
I bought a range of high-quality low-price bourbons for my sons a few Christmases ago. My oldest son discovered Old Forester Rye which continues to be his favorite. My younger son immediately hit on OGD114. We blinded the range together and he was uncanny about picking and loving OGD114. It’s his jam. Center of mass. Or as we say in the Air Force, SHACK. 🇺🇸
Only 4 minutes in and one of your best videos ever! Love ur special brand of humor! It's the number 1 thing that keeps me coming back. And with ur bourbon knowledge I've amassed a pretty amazing bourbon collection? I just can't believe ur not a bigger larceny bp fan like myself. I also finally bought a sam houston 15 for 170 and man is it great!
I love drinking below the poverty line every now and then. I keep OGD, OGD114, EW BIB on the shelf. My favorite below the poverty line bourbon is Early Times BIB.
LOL! You're hilarious. I've only had the BiB so far... so I am here to see what you think about the 114. Fascinating! I liked the Bonded. I like "nutty" in my bourbon, so that would explain that. But I am now definitely going to grab the 114. Your review bodes well for it.
I don't know if you write your own stuff, but if you ever tire of bourbon reviews, I'll bet you could work as a writer on a comedy skit. By far my favorite commentator.
No!! My local boozery was out of the 114 so I settled for the Bonded. Hopefully it still mixes well. Working my way through an Evan Williams BIB that while much more mellow than OGD 114, is a very pleasant whiskey.
I had a OGD 114 with a bad cork. What the heck are you supposed to do? There's no replacing that big ass cork. Had to transfer it to a different bottle.
I've had Old Grand Dad Bottled-In-Bond before and remember liking it...this blind just makes me curious about the 114. Going to have to pick one up soon.
Gold grand 114 and old grand dad BB are same taste but like you said old grand dad 114 stays with you much longer by the fireplace on a cold winters night
Huh, I kind of prefer BiB. Maybe the batches I have are just different. Some days I felt 114 was a bit thin whereas the BiB seemed more well rounded, if a bit simple. My 114 seemed youthful compared to the BiB
I use ODG BiB when I want a mixer with a higher rye mash bill. Works great in cocktails. Since I live in PA (also known as the land of lousy bourbon choices), I have never ever seen ODG 114 even in a Premium Collections store, so I've never had the pleasure of trying it. They just don't care about expanding offerings for the customer. Next time I find myself in DE or NJ I will probably stumble across it.
Two whiskeys I absolutely can't drink are OGD114 and Old Forester 86 proof. They are both tasty bourbons and rather satisfying, unfortunately, they both give me a horrible headache even after one pour of 2-3 ounces. If you don't get the same headache as I do, then they are both great values. Personally I'd rather spend twice as much to avoid a headache lol!
Early last year Fred Minnick called OGD 114 the “best kept secret” in the bourbon community. The next day, POOF! They were all gone in AZ for almost a year! Finally saw some at Total Wine for 19.99 yesterday. My wife lost her mind. Apparently she wanted to surprise me for Valentines Day with a bottle. She paid 50$ online with shipping! That didn’t stop me from stocking up! The moral of this story is Fred Minnick clearly doesn’t know how to keep a secret AND I married the right woman! Cheers Matt!
I really like both of these bottles. 114 is all citrus for me. Bonded is quite similar to Evan Williams White label. Nutty, which I love, but also has a lot of that citrus that 114 has.
I think you need to let that bib open up a bit and try it again when you've got some head space in that bottle. I think it gets much sweeter as it opens up
I love both- however while I can get BiB any day I walk into most stores for $22, I have yet to see 114 in the wild in Nebraska, only own one gifted bottle.
I think the batching on these two have changed. More of the better barrels are going into the 114 now, IMHO. Either that or they had an off season for the most recent BIB batch.
Always wondered about who is buying and drinking these. I picked up a WT101 because everyone was saying how great it was at such a low price and I've heard the same about OGD114 and was going to pick up a bottle but then I thought I already have so many great bottles that I can barely keep up with trying them and more are always coming in. Why would one even bother with bottles like these? I understand sure, if I was in a position to not be able to afford anything this may let me drink something decent at a low price level but do people into bourbon/whiskey that spend time reading reviews, keeping up with bourbon news and watching whiskey tubers really stick with budget bourbons?
haha, yeah all these poors out here, amiright? Would love to watch you double blind 114 vs whatever fancy pants bottles you think are so good, and watch you pick 114.
@Lord Garth do people into bourbon/whiskey that spend time reading reviews, keeping up with the bourbon news and watching whiskey tubers really think that price determines taste?
How old, i mean the bottle of 114 you have? Heard the newer 114 don't have the Peanut notes and taste as much. Curious While I like 114 I really don't enjoy it if having it with other pours due to the heavy peanut i got off the old bottle, same thing with Dickel 15yr.. like but only if having one pour and not moving onto another bottle. I have not tried a new 114 though. Great job.
One of the more entertaining (funny) videos you've done. Right up there with the "hot toddy" video. Even my wife found it funny, and she's so tired of me watching whiskeytube videos you'd think I was watching OnlyDans. Keep up the good work!
114 all day. It finished 2nd place in a blind 5 bottle tasting with friends with it being the cheapest in the group ranging from $40-300. The $300 finished last. Price isn’t always king. Wouldn’t want it as a daily for me but it’s serviceable and decent
Here in Virginia, I have never seen the 114 at a discount price, it's always $30-as far as I know. The BIB is normally $25, but goes on sale at $22, 2 or 3 times a year. When shopping on a budget, sometimes you only have $22. I would blind it against Evan Williams BIB, but I don't have any. I do prefer the 114 which is probably why the damned bottle is empty! I think the 114 holds up well against everything that is $30 or less.
No surprise there, I quit buying the Bonded, after all they are both $20 a bottle. A dram of OGD 114 with 6 1/2 drops of filtered water is just heavenly!! (PS - Matt, I really like the lighting you are using for this video, very dramatic and attractive. It even makes you look half-good.)
I've always preferred the BiB over the 114. I like the 107 idea from the other guy. I'll have to try that. Also, unfounded opinion, but I think Booker's is basically higher aged OGD.
If you haven't yet look up Benchmark Full Proof, it is 125 proof and most places priced about the same as OGD 114 and to my palate is better. Where I live both are the same price, around $20 a bottle. I usually add a bit of water, 125 proof is pretty wicked but the flavors are great for the affordability.
I’ve had the BiB before and I remembered that I thought it was pretty decent. Simple but hitting all the right base notes. Picked up a bottle tonight and was really surprised at how watery the delivery was🤔 not much flavor with chewing either. Finally got some corn and grain notes with the swallow but no citrus or cinnamon…weird. I hope this bottle opens up because it’s incredibly underwhelming!
41st comment! I win! The age Matt was when he was crowned worlds top whiskey taster in 2020. I’m not really sure how old he was at the time but it sounded good so… cheers!
In every review of bourbons people taste different notes. No one really knows how to describe the taste. "It's cherry cola with a hint of smoky tobacco and old socks mixed with candy corn muffins baked at Christmastime with a dry oaky finish."
Edit 7 2024, 101 has fallen off, 114 is my pick now. Old comment: How about this vs old tub. I'm a 101 every day person. Old tub hits the cheap spot too. I like my mid grade stuff more but for daily not worried about price. 101 is my jam
Harry S. Truman had a glass of this every morning with breakfast. He said it "got the motor running".
He drank it after his workout
Harry Truman saved USA navy and military with the atomic bomb my father in law would not have had my beautiful wife if he hadn't so he said Japan was dug in well he saw Hiroshima after bomb I'm 73 I'm glad he lived to reproduce
And he was right ❤
I had the same reaction initially.
I agree!
Same here. Open the bottle and then put it away. It's completely different after it "breathes".
I agree, have a dram or two, then leave it for a couple months and you will love it, and go out for another bottle.
A good skirmish would be ogd 114 vs knob 9yr imo. I can get them both for $30 and drink them often, use em for mixers, etc.
Have only seen 4 bottles of 114 in 2 years, bought 3, loved it
The first ADHD video I watched was the one where he compared OGD BIB and The Fighting Cock bourbon then he talked about mixing them to create The Old Grand Cock cocktail. Cracked up and subbed immediately!
Anytime you can use a sentence with grand and cock in it, you win and the terrorists lose.
Watched this while sipping some OGD 114. One of my favorites recently! I’ve never had the BIB, but going to buy a bottle anyways to compare myself. Great video!
did you try ogd bib let me know if i need to try it compared to 114

This convinced me to try them both. 114 is way better as a neat sipper.
114 is one of the few bourbons I like better with ice or water. It’s got some sharp off putting notes. The water or ice brings out some really nice sweet notes and takes out the rough edges.
Great video Matt! This Bourbon skirmish was on my mind last time at the liquor store.
OGD114 is near and dear to me, but it’s not near because now I can never find it in my area so that makes me sad, Matt.
OGD 114 is one of those I try to always have on hand.
I’m enjoying a bottle of 114 right now. Still want to try the bonded for myself. Thanks for the insight 👍
114 OGD all the way Matty! I'm actually sitting next a 1/3 full bottle of the bonded right now wondering what soda goes best with it. The things we do to get more shelf space.
I enjoy mine with a dash of water, or a ginger-forward soda if not neat personally.
looking good dude 100 lbs down is great keep it up
I bought a range of high-quality low-price bourbons for my sons a few Christmases ago. My oldest son discovered Old Forester Rye which continues to be his favorite. I love OF Rye. It's a delicious bottle
I really didn’t like Old Grandad Bonded, but I really enjoy Old Grandad 114. Great video Matt!

Thank you so much for this video--Never knew 114 was available. Next trip to the liquor i will ask for Old Gran dad 114
I drink all three...80 proof with OJ for breakfast when I'm off. Bonded is my daily drinker. 114 for campfires and bad days.
I love if’s 114 on a cold late night sipper watching and listening to Matt good company
This is my mama in the middle of the cold scary nights And my lil miniature deer head Chihuahua it's so delicious I love the rye formula
you're an alcoholic
I love drinking below the poverty line every now and then. I keep OGD, OGD114, EW BIB on the shelf. My favorite below the poverty line bourbon is Early Times BIB.
Have you tried Evan Williams 100 in the 1.75 L bottle? Where I live it is $23 which is equivalent to about $9.80 for 750 ml.
@@txmike1945 I have it in the 750 ml for $15. I very much like it also!
LOL! You're hilarious.
I've only had the BiB so far... so I am here to see what you think about the 114.
Fascinating! I liked the Bonded. I like "nutty" in my bourbon, so that would explain that. But I am now definitely going to grab the 114. Your review bodes well for it.
I love me some ADHD reviews, better than most shows on television.
I watch this and others of his when I'm depressed he would have made a great Johnny Carson regular host

I had a OGD 114 with a bad cork. What the heck are you supposed to do? There's no replacing that big ass cork. Had to transfer it to a different bottle.
They are all loose corks
I've had Old Grand Dad Bottled-In-Bond before and remember liking it...this blind just makes me curious about the 114. Going to have to pick one up soon.
Gold grand 114 and old grand dad BB are same taste but like you said old grand dad 114 stays with you much longer by the fireplace on a cold winters night
Huh, I kind of prefer BiB. Maybe the batches I have are just different. Some days I felt 114 was a bit thin whereas the BiB seemed more well rounded, if a bit simple. My 114 seemed youthful compared to the BiB
Sometimes I mix the two 50/50 for a 107 proof blend to get the longer finish and complexity of the 114 with some of the smoothness of the BIB.
I use ODG BiB when I want a mixer with a higher rye mash bill. Works great in cocktails. 100% agree.
Anyone that likes 114 has no bourbon palate at all IMO.
@@whodey59 he said its "quite tasty."
Dickel Rye seems to do the same to me. So does tequila.
@@JMo-uh5cd I said "rather tasty" and I was trying to be polite lmao!
@Plecodude sorry.....thought it read "quite nasty". 😄
Thanks for the video; hilarious!
Late at night when I can’t sleep I go to Matt it’s a Christmas like feeling I’ve watched most his reviews He’s a modern day Carson

I’m really looking forward to seeing your weight loss videos. Can’t wait to see what brought you success brotha.
I’m blessed to have the old (pre 2004) 86 proofer, plus same era bonded. The are amazing. But the current bonded is 👍
But have you tried OGD 107 - a 50/50 blend of the two?
Won't make either one better. Haha
I love both- however while I can get BiB any day I walk into most stores for $22, I have yet to see 114 in the wild in Nebraska, only own one gifted bottle.
What about an OGD 107?!? (Bonded mixed with 114, 50/50)
Love both, can’t find the 114 very often, the BIB is usually available
Old granddad 114 reminds me of Christmas it does open up the memories
There was a liquor store near me that was hiding Buffalo Trace with the bottom shelf stuff everyone skips like Fireball and Screwball.
It's where it belongs 🤫😉👍
OGD114 is the best by a milly!
Side note: would you trade an ER17 for a 2023 WLW?
Yes! And, yes!
I think the batching on these two have changed. More of the better barrels are going into the 114 now, IMHO. Either that or they had an off season for the most recent BIB batch.

OGD 114 all day. It’s does everything. Mixer , on the rocks, neat. All perfect 👍🏻

My wife references the "hot toddy" episode all the time. Matt is the only whiskey commentator she'll watch.
Been having troubles finding the 114 lately here in CO
"Two old men fighting in a garage in Colorado." Classic!
Both are good but BIB is better to my pallet. It's an orange bomb as it opens up.
114 all day. It finished 2nd place in a blind 5 bottle tasting with friends with it being the cheapest in the group ranging from $40-300. The $300 finished last. Price isn’t always king. Wouldn’t want it as a daily for me but it’s serviceable and decent

Went to get 114 and my store doesn't carry it. Got the bonded though. It's not bad but ew bib is way better for my taste.
OGD 114 is a pour I drink drink neat. BiB is a mixer for me. Cheers
The " No Look Long Pour"!! Shaking things up in 2023.
Where did the Yamaha turntable go?
OGD 114 is way better. I will never buy OGD BiB since Evan Williams BiB is cheaper and better.
I might have to try it again
OGD 114 was my first...still my love.
I remember my dad's go to whiskey's were Wild Turkey and Johnny Walker.
You try the OGD bonded + Rittenhouse 100 rye half half mix? Not bad for the price.
OGD 114 is way underpriced for what’s in the bottle. 114 every day Matt and hard to find in my area.
Old grandad 114 has been my favorite for few years now wonder fully made
I've always preferred the BiB over the 114. I like the 107 idea from the other guy. I'll have to try that. Also, unfounded opinion, but I think Booker's is basically higher aged OGD.
OGD114 for the win! Good budget pour.

I feel personally attacked by the ending narrative of this video.
OGD 114 seems very hard to find.
OGD 114 is a very good bottle, can’t get BiB in my state.
They are both cocktail whiskeys. Bonded is fine for stuff like whisky sours. 114 is for old fashions.
114, but left both unscored. Porter-Master, the world loves the scores.
In every review of bourbons people taste different notes. No one really knows how to describe the taste. "It's cherry cola with a hint of smoky tobacco and old socks mixed with candy corn muffins baked at Christmastime with a dry oaky finish."
Funny Almost makes me want to buy a bonded just t on walk down the same road
Head to head. ! Let’s go
I forgot how tasty red hots 114 has on that neck pour how incredible delicious
That neck pour is just pure poison on 114
Edit 7 2024, 101 has fallen off, 114 is my pick now.
Old comment: How about this vs old tub. I'm a 101 every day person. Old tub hits the cheap spot too. I like my mid grade stuff more but for daily not worried about price. 101 is my jam
Old grandad 114 is great chased with several Oreo cookies and fat free milk
BiB claims more Rye forward and that is why I choose 114.....it's not even close!
OGD 114 is pretty damn solid but it just doesn't hit the spot like BIB does.
