Recorded at the Beach Boys historic concert at Knebworth House on June 21st 1980. It proved to be the last time that the original Beach Boys (Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Carl Wilson, Dennis Wilson, and Alan Jardine) would appear together on a UK stage.
The Beach Boys are one of the most successful groups of all time clocking up 28 UK Top 40 singles and numerous hit albums, with ‘Pet Sounds’ being generally regarded as one of the all-time great albums and “Good Vibrations” being voted the best single ever released in Mojo magazine's poll.
The ‘Good Timin’: Live At Knebworth, England 1980’ album includes virtually all The Beach Boys’ classics such as “Fun, Fun, Fun,” “Help Me Rhonda,” “Sloop John B,” “Lady Lynda,” “I Get Around,” “Barbara Ann,” “Wouldn't It Be Nice,” “Surf...”

These guys don’t get enough credit for pulling off Brian’s masterpieces live on stage. Incredible.
True. Some people rag on them for not playing on all the albums but in reality, session musicians were mainly used because of their intense touring schedule. Brian would be in the studio with the session crew while The Beach Boys were out on the road. They were more than capable of playing all their songs.

Dennis wasn't even the original drummer on this song. On the original recording, Dennis contributed backing vocals and an organ part during the second bridge. There were two drummers, Hal Blaine and Jim Gordon, obviously neither of whom were Dennis Wilson.
I love this version of the Beach Boys Good Vibrations because both Carl Wilson (who passed away from cancer in 1998 AND Dennis Wilson who drowned in 1983) are in it. Carl Wilson had a beautiful voice.
As I recall, this was the last performance where all six Beach Boys played together.
My father was a huge Beach Boys fan and he died from cancer one year after Carl. It really broke my dad’s heart when Carl died.
That was the first album my parents let me play on their brand new stéréo

Dennis played like a caveman on this song...and I mean that in a positive tone. He pounded those drums and got the perfect sound at the right times. He was criticized for his primitive drumming style. But his style worked for my ears. He put his soul into drumming because he idolized his brother Brian, who wrote this song.
I believe I read where both Brian and Carl had perfect pitch. What a gift.

Carl Wilson is my favorite singer with his great voice and when he smiled into the camera I looked into his eyes and saw his beautiful soul. I later found out that people who personally knew Carl LOVED him because he was also a beautiful person..

I usually appreciate and defend Mike Love, but that man has _NEVER_ understood or appreciated the slow section of "Good Vibrations".
I've heard their very first live performance of it, and all through the decades, Mike has NEVER been content to just let the song get nice and _quiet_ for a little while!

This is from the Knobworth concert which is available on DVD even here in North America. Last time all the original Beach Boys were together on British Soil.

I miss Brian on all these songs. So sad. Denny has Brian's sad eyes. I just feel... it's not the Beach Boys without Brian. He wrote all these wonderful songs. Having said that, the energy and performance and sound here is great! Just miss Brian, that's all.

As a teenager of the 70's in California, the Beach Boys at the time were considered pop rock by my peers. We were all into the hard rock of Van Halen, AC DC, Stones, Fleetwood Mac and Black Sabbath for the metal heads. As well as some of the other pioneers from the sixties such as Doors, Hendrix, Joplin . Yet for some reason the Beach Boys were considered "un-cool" by us.
Now, 50 year later and having known more about the history, as well as the resurrection of Brian Wilson this music is something that I can really appreciate.
Alan Jardine is the least I’ve ever heard about his personal life. All the Wilson’s had bad addictions and Mike was married 7 times. Must’ve been hard been in this business even tho they were and still so loved
