You know you *are* an INTP when every single test and cognitive function analysis says INTP but you're still watching this video because "you never know".
Well every once in a while it occurs to me that all these different personality models are humanity's best attempts to understand the patterns and variations that develop among the various individual humans. Any given personality type can only be so accurate at describing a given individual. And especially if the description doesn't fit perfectly, you're always going to wonder if it really describes YOU. Every system we have is constantly getting improved, and eventually you realize you need to tear down the whole system and start from scratch. I'm willing to bet someday we'll find out how obsolete all these current personality models are that we'll need to build something totally new. Every system we've built So far is technically still in progress. Nothing is ever really "set in stone" (as annoying as that thought might be). I wonder if INTPs know this deep down, and if that's why they're never firmly set on what type they are.
As soon as I got to "zoned out", I started thinking about when I zoned out and how, before finishing the rest of the sentence. Then pondered a bit before deciding to hit reply. 🙄
Ehh.. unless you are really interested in this topic that's mbti, which I would gather most intps are. The intp subgroup in Quora has the highest subscription (er, following?) count vs other type subgroups.
You know you’re an INTP when this guy mentions one thing that doesn’t perfectly describe you, and then you get a wave of anxiety because this all might be fake.
You know you are an INTP when you have a good idea of just how ignorant and unintelligent you really are but still find yourself to be the smartest and/or most informed person in the room with distressing regularity.
Actually, I'll do the same, as an ENTJ. I'll look back and edit my comment almost 90% of the time after having had posted it, and almost the same percent goes into editing my comment on the fly (I've went back to edit this now eleven times, adding and rewording stuff). However, I usually want people to respond to me, like 99% of the time I want this (like right now)! Do INTP's, or you, if you're an INTP, usually want everybody to respond to them? Respond!!! 😐
Christian Carter I really don’t mind if someone doesn’t respond to my comment, but precise language and worrying about if the wording could be taken a different way than intended can lead to waaaaay too many edits happening. It’s a lot of an anxiety thing for me. It’s interesting that both personalities have somewhat a similar trait, but possibly for different reasons? I also edit my comments when I’m writing them, taking out parts that I don’t like. (Also yes, I’m INTP. Forgot to answer that.)
@@sherbet3310 It's interesting that you bring up the precision at which a message should read so as to convey correctly the intended message. When I write out a text message to my INFP sister, I can be very careless about my word usage but still get the message across to her and she understand it, as she is pretty much usually not thinking logically but rather emotionally. Just so long as I give to her a bunch of happy faces and (sometimes overly) possessively-connotated words in the messages I send to her, she seems to understand quickly what my message says. I've failed to logically teach her how to do math. Anyways, I think the biggest reason as to why I want people to respond to me is so that I can validate my logic and, therefore, myself, so to speak, which I usually want A LOT of when logically analyzing things. Is the anxiety thing for you something that has happened all your life or especially when your thinking of precisely what to say, or something else? I've done the same with editing out certain parts of my comments; I actually did that in this one where I talked about how I usually dislike reasoning with my INFP sister, who almost always reasons with emotion. By the way, those percentages I gave in my first reply were arbitrarily used. I actually don't go far as to measure out how many times I edit stuff. Respond! (I'm trying to not get too used to using imperative verbs, but maybe doing so be help me in the long run.)
Christian Carter As far as I know, I’ve been pretty cautious about things my whole life, so I think the worry about conveying my meaning properly is just a side effect of that. I don’t particularly like to use emojis or emoticons, so I worry sometimes that people will take the message in the wrong way (even if there wasn’t anything that might offend someone), so I typically just change phrases like “for example” to “such as” because I fear it could make someone perceive my meaning differently. I pride myself on my vocabulary, but the downside of that is that I’m always wondering if certain ways to say things could be interpreted badly. I don’t really have a drive for a response, particularly because I’m worrying too much about how the person could be confused and think I’m trying to offend them, so since that’s on the front of my mind, I imagine if they don’t respond, it’s better. I’m sure if I just kept half of the stuff I write the same, the message could be taken the same way and nothing else would be said, but I tend to get overly cautious, which can lead to me correcting thing as small as punctuation or grammar. That’s also why I don’t really like commenting typically.
@@sherbet3310 I'm fascinated by your input, and I was mentally engaged as I read through your comment. I relate to what you said in a lot of ways, for sure. It's really interesting to me how some people read things much differently than others. It's frustrating, however, to know that our input is (supposedly) never perfect for everybody. That would be wishful thinking if we tried reaching the gold bar of perfection all the time. Yet, there is always the possibility that others will understand and connect better with our messages than we intended. At the same time, people can misread us. This happens to me all the time, as I typically talk a relatively very large amount while I try to properly assess and, thereby, communicate with people more efficiently, which can all be quite cumbersome. So many times while I was growing up wanted others to understand me, and I thought they functioned like I did, and so I'd inform them the same way that I'd want them to inform me. This didn't always work. Actually, my approach in appealing to others in the manner of which I was was usually too forceful. Being an E-type, I talked a lot, but I seemingly mostly didn't get anywhere. I don't like when I'm interpreted incorrectly, but -- and this might be a terrible idea -- I enjoy being witty and charismatic and feeding people a lot of bullshit (of over-the-top emotional responses among other things), especially if I'm in a good mood and I believe that that person won't "get" me if I simply used my extroverted thinking. This is fine by me, usually, because the people who I feed BS will usually laugh, and humor interestingly connects people, kind of, I guess, at least. It took me quite some time to develop my charismatic side in that I'd be comfortable with BS'ing with others. Anyways, not only have I thought about the effectiveness of my punctuation and grammar when I write people, I've also went so far as to think a lot about my contractions, voice, scope, sentence order, paragraph order, and other things. I'm sure you can relate. I get why you wouldn't want either of us to comment back to each other; however, comment me back.
@@danielfisher898 I meant I'm skill skeptical like an intp would be even after this video when I'm almost sure im an intj but some things I relate to the P version more
@peace i recomend to do research in functions if you haven't already, also keep in mind that your 3rd function can act as the 2nd one, so tecnically you can be something inbetween an INTP and INTJ if you have Ni/Ti or Ti/Ni (However these types are respectivly adressed as INFJ and ISTP becouse the acting 2nd function is still conciderd the 3rd function)
I got lucky with that, my mother was fine with my constant questioning. She did have one rule, though - if there was something that needed to be done right away, like an urgent or emergency situation, we were to do as she said, and she'd explain later. Which she always did. My father isn't so big on the questions, but only when he feels they were challenging him. Otherwise, he's all about it. The rest of the world, on the other hand...
Thats definitely something I've noticed about INTPs and many have claimed exactly the same thing. I'm still not fully sure on which functions contribute to that but Ne + Fe can be ultra chameleon-esque indeed! ~ Nathan
Yep. I have worked in both commissioned sales and joined the military and was between decent and outstanding at both. I'd hate to do either ever again. I think it's because if we _have_ _to,_ we have within us the capability to make ourselves socialize, or organize, or emulate "feely" responses (is it cliche and void of substance but sounds nice?). None of these functions are beyond our comprehension, they're just chores that annoy us. Inversely, I don't think it works the other way around as easy. S's probably not going to be able to pick up N's thinking when it suits him or he'd be an N to begin with... Likewise expecting the rigid to be flexible, or the extrovert to go back in his head... Maybe some could... but I would be surprised if it was as easy or easier for them.
Is there a thread somewhere where INTPs share their obsession subjects? I'm keen to know if other INTPs have similar odd little collections of hobbies/interests.
Deedy Moyley I find something I’m interested in one day and obsess over it for a couple months or maybe a year or two until I grow bored of it and forget that it exists
You know your an INTP when; you take a test and wonder if you got INTP because you’re an INTP or you just researched the personality extensively, that you now psychologically adapted all your answers to reach that result.
You know you’re not an INTP when you aren’t secretly enjoying sitting at home all day during a pandemic outbreak. (Also you know you’re not an INTP, when you don’t run an automatic grammar check on the sentence you just typed and the one you’re just typing.)
I don't really bother the typing thing, am I not an INTP? I did the test again and this time I got INFP, and I started freaking out because I don't really feel a connection to INFP at all. QwQ
You know that you aren't a INTP when you can explain your thoughts to someone without getting really frustrated, and ended up not explaining it at all.
Yup I have just lost a wonderful relationship due to not being able to explain my thoughts and emotions and also trying to understand her and getting it SO SO wrong!!! Thinking with my head and not my heart …. Eek hearts
As an INTP, I never ask myself about the use of something in the reality, it is always about the truths of a certain concept. However, I often utilize "what" as a synonymous of "why" when there is a new system to analyse in my curiosity
You know you're an intp when you give advice that is very confronting and sound harsh and only makes sense on a logical level. So that the person asking will a) gets offended from your advice and thinks that you are rude and leave you alone despite your good intentions. b) completly disregard your advice because it goes against their gut feeling. You're an intp when in real life you are struggling to find words and appear like a robot while small talk but you are able to type wild essays to convey your creative ideas. You're an intp when you find home in someone who is lost in deep philosophical thoughts.
@@susankievman642 interesting thought will look into entp as well. Edit: took more than one test which all resulted as intp. I guess the greatest difference to entp is that i don't like the idea to chase for glory especially for impressing the others. I hate being in the spotlight and have tendencies to keep my thought in my head as long as possible to explore it in great detail and from all angles. Here and there when topics started to get interdisciplinary it's just an unavoidable thing to happen, when i talk about my thoughts people can't keep up the vastness of the idea. Lastly I don't start a conversation until I met someone who seem to have the same interests as me. The person get plus points if he or she shares insights I don't know about that make me curious. I'm very helpless when it comes to make people emotional comfortable which I deeply care for but I can only express that sentiment very weirdly or in a misunderstood way.
@@Alphawolfinify You should check into the fact that you may be an INTJ. By your description, that would fit the bill. The online tests are unreliable. Many years ago I tested as an ENFP but later discovered that I am a true ENTJ. Learn about the cognitive functions. INTP is Ti-Ne-Fe-Si, very different from an INTJ which is Ni-Te-Fi-Se. Both are highly opinionated , logical and introverted, but one is more likely to make sure people know what they think! I have been married to both types. Dont trust the descriptions. Ask your friends and family about your personality. I have studied this extensively. There are many good you tube videos on NT types. Asura, C.S Joseph, Dave superpowers, and an NT group of men that are really good (I dont remember their site offhand.
Also people say we intp are science or science fiction oriented, but I like social subjects more such as psychology, sociology, etc I would love to hear the reasons as to why a person or a group behave like they do, I do research on anything but science is not my cup of tea ...
The whole idea of putting people into boxes is just... not reasonable imao. And though you seem to have read my mind writing this comment, I cannot really agree. They might actually fall into... that category. They might not. I completely understand your reasons. If they don't question what he says, they aren't INTP. However they might still question it and just want to... brag about being one. Or they might be just lying to themselves in order to appear somewhat smart (I'm so afraid of doing this, nevertheless sometimes I reckon I do it) 🙂
I can't believe this comment hasn't had more likes!! Gold INTP behaviour... Second place to sitting in front a camera, delivering an insightful speech off the top of your head and then realising you hadn't turned the camera on... Still laughing at how perfect a summation this is of what it means to be an INTP!
You're an INTP when you read through all these comments, find that you relate to all of them. Then realize, you're not alone, there are others that think the same way. But you still think you're alone.
Lately, I've really gotten into the psychology. As an ENTJ, I've gone so far as to express how I feel about myself and how I feel about others and different situations just so that I can (artificially) relate with certain types. In doing these things, luckily, I've had better communication with feeler-type people.
It's possible to get past this a little by analyzing the concept of perspectives. I 'd describe it as "This person is seeing this from a different angle using a different set of (probably wrong) information as a guide, what insights can I glean from this?". That said I still scream internally. EDIT: Ah you just mentioned this, chalk this up to me being impatient.
@Cleanish Slatethis is going to sound pretentious so just bare with me here! I'm going to say that the truth is function in its most basic form. I think our perception of what the truth is is too localized to human perspective. Ultimate truth is far greater than anything that we may understand, meaning that it's therefore useless to us in the same way an aeroplane is useless to an ant. Therefore we often create a version of 'truth' based on how useful we find it and how effectively it serves us. We then clamour to prove our perspectives through whatever the agreed paradigm is at the time. As long as it functions for the duration of the person, it serves as all the truth they need. The ultimate truth is just far too big and far too unwieldy to be considered needed. To stare at the sun is too great. The only way we can catch a glimpse of the sky is with sunglasses on, or at the expense of your eyes. You would need to sacrifice one perspective and lose the other. Science tries to stand on both sides of that coin!
Ti is a cold and analytical function that is balanced by Fe, a warm function that cares about others. Te is a cold function balanced by an almost equally cold function, Fi. People understand Te so it makes INTJs appear relatable. Then their Fi shows just how weird they are by how self interested they are. They din't take into account how others feel but instead on how *they* feel about what they see.
Data is an INTP Spock is an INTJ. My son is an INTP and I am an INtj of the oldish kind. And I am kind. He is a Stoic. We had to explain to our son when he was six years old that his grandmother might not tell him the correct time. She might say its noonish. He did not warm to that notion.
@@downsjmmyjones101 Fi is not at all cold; in fact, it's passionate. It just isn't as easy to explain to others. Calling Fi cold if you have Fe is analogous to Te users calling Ti users illogical because the logic doesn't present in an quickly decipherable form. I've seen that happen, where people assume that the Ti user is trying to be contrary or just takes pride in wasting everybody's time, but saying that they prioritize themselves over others wouldn't really be accurate or fair. What they prioritize is the complexity and nuance of truth, which is also what Fi prioritizes, just from a standpoint of what is helpful/harmful rather than precise/imprecise. Fi constantly considers others' needs and perspectives just like Ti does. But neither process is easily unraveled from the outside looking in, whereas the extroverted judging functions automatically communicate in ways that are easier for people to understand, which makes them seem less "selfish" at first glance.
@@appletree6898 I don't see how being passionate is relevant. Any function can be passionate. I woukd say that calling Ti self interested would be fair and accurate. How does Fi consider others?
I love the idea of schedules and can spend hours trying to make them perfect. However, I could not follow a schedule if my life depended on it. All it takes is one thing to go slightly wrong or for me to find literally anything more fun to do and I give up on it.
The weird thing is whenever I have a school project or exams or alot of stuff to do over the following days and anxiety takes over and hijacks my thinking I find it comforting to write a schedule of what I'll be doing...and then do whatever I want as long as I get my tasks on time before the deadline I'm ok with it. So I guess it's like a coping mechanism that I never seem to follow
Agreed. I've been dealing with back and forth unfulfilled schedules, trying to find a better solution how to apply those. Well, now I know a system (habitual actions) work best for me rather than strict timing schedule.
You're an INTP when you always say 'because' after you stated something and it goes on and on until you're confused but you ain't giving up cause you're really invested in it
Yess, the problem is that often people ask me not to explain it . Like to them it's a simple question of yes o no . But in my mind it's not that simple and there are alot of factors that could change the answer or there might not even be a yes o no answer. When i try to explain it they small minds either ignore me or don't even understand what I'm saying :)
I hate this aspect of myself. Any random stranger can make me doubt absolutely anything I believed with “Are you sure?”. It’s not always immediate, but it will almost always happen that, without fail, I then have to go back to the drawing board and make sure that I was sure the first time.
As an INTP the way I act with emotions is I am actually a very empathetic person I relate very deeply with people when their sad I get sad, I analyze how everyone feels, why they feel that way, and how they act when they feel it, but when they come to me for support I most often give them solutions, and I have realized that people have distanced themselves from me because of my lack of ability to respond in an emotional supportive way and I still can’t really do it effectively, so I literally have to analyze how people respond to others emotions and do the same thing 😂 I’m a robot
I'm relieved that now I know my robotic approach to people's emotions is not a mental issue :") I've always thought that I'm numb and have to learn emotions, especially after I got into college away from my family. From what I've learned so far, hugging is the most universal gesture, but not to be used on extreme sadness, instead just hold their hand (I saw my friend did it when my other friend was so very upset). Despite the lack of my advice giving skill, for some reason people around me seem to like to tell their problems etc. It seems just being a listener is good enough to make people feel better :)
This happened a lot to me Im very emphatic too, when it comes to emotions, some person I know dont like the way sometimes I advice. Its better just consolate with soft words than anything else, people likes more that way even if I prefer my own way to deal with emotions. God, for social situaciones sometimes I just try to think what a normal person will do, its hard ahahhaha
INTP’s do make schedules, they just have the mental capacity to keep it in their heads instead of writing it down. Their Fe is also terrified of offending people’s values without knowing.
It must depend on the person. I do make schedules and write them down (because it's what my psychologist tells me to do), but I can't follow it xd. I just do things whenever I want.
As an xNxP I also have a calendar in my head. But I can't have too many appointment in it - otherwise I will be stressed/confused. But I have the next couple of weeks visually accessable in my head. I wouldn't be able to deal with a physical calendar. It is too disorganised presented and no way I would remeber to use it...
One of the most annoying trait that I have as an intp is that I can't pick just one subject to pursue in college and later in life . I'm pretty much interested in everything , even the most unrelated topics. I still don't know how I'm gonna manage to choose. Any advice would be helpful.
A carreer that allows you to do different things along the way. I studied industrial desing because I have the posivility to work on many different things.
I don't know how interested you are in certain subjects, but I was able to overcome this hurdle by being able to differentiate my interests. Ever since I was a child, I have been obsessed with animals (specifically reptiles) so I chose to major in Organismal Biology. My other interests (crochet, martial arts, flute, world history, etc.) are more of my hobbies. I enjoy learning about the mysterious Land of Punt, making presents for my friends and family, and learning to play the theme songs of my favorite shows, but I know that I'd get tired of all of these things if I decided to make one of them my career. To make sure I won't get bored studying STEM at college, I applied to mostly liberal arts colleges with a more interdisciplinary learning environment. I don't know how helpful this is for you, seeing as you are already in college, but I think you should test out all of your interests as hobbies and play around with which one you think you'd want to have as a career. Also, I hope you understand that you can always change your major or switch professions if you do not like it. It's probably a lot harder than just sticking to one thing for the rest of your life even if you hate it, but what's the point of doing something you don't like?
My little two cents about INTP and emotional intelligence: I think most INTPs are prone to having a very select few "valuable" people for whom we are willing to go above and beyond in terms of understanding and working with their emotions. We study them and learn what makes them tick as we do with everything else, and *because* they are important to us even if we don't agree with or inherently sympathize with their feelings we also understand why they are there, in context, and are driven to help bring them the kind of peace our own approach gives us. In that sense, we CAN be highly emotionally intelligent, it's just that for most people we don't care. Our triggers that turn off our care switches are many, our standards are high, so when those few people pass they can reap the benefits of being so intimate with someone that cares so intensely about... basically everything. It's such a hot-cold thing, either we care and feel deeply even if we aren't good at showing it, or we care not at all.
As an INTP (or not, who's to say?) I've found the best way to be an emotional support is to literally just listen. It doesn't require any emotional skill (or whatever), just patience.
As an ENTJ, same.... Though lately I've been trying to be more "in touch" with others' feelings as I (artificially) talk about my emotions and how I feel about others. I tend to use words like "good" And "wonderful" to help certain along.
As an INTP, my patience is so thin. I usually zone out whenever I listen to people for too long. Be it the teachers teaching, parents disciplining, people chatting, etc. I want to become much more patient and try this
i find that 99.99% impossible to do. Even consciously trying to make myself listen... then i zone out to focus on solving the problems. My threashold for listening only is abou 1-2 minutes a big improvement from when i was younger lol
Most people are boring to me 🥹😂💀 and their emotions are all the same…😂no I’m teasing. But if we can’t talk about 5-6 things in a given time, just thought hoppin AND if it’s not “out-of-the-box”, I’m tuned tf out 😂😢 I definitely need to do better in this
1:26 I can confirm how uncomfortable I am if faced with a heavily emotional person. My initial thought would be to ask them what happened and give advices on dealing with their problems, but then I would reconsider and fake a pity because I know my words would mean nothing to them. Then I would feel terrible for faking because people hate "toxic/fake" friends despite them regularly doing the same thing to everybody. And lastly, I would end up recoiling from the emotional person altogether and pretend I did not recognize them when I walk by.
Person: *cries in my room* My mind: *explodes*, *Fe manifests and gives a solution that could practically be accepted by the rest of I, as it could, if done rightly, help the situation and increase my reputation* Ti: Silence, mortal Me: Stop fucking crying in my fucking room, at least cry in a different room, this display of weakness is truly disgusting My mind: Wait... What did just-
I'm usually pretty sure of what theyre doing wrong and how they can fix it but I also know they arent gonna wanna listen to it so I just "aww u have been totally wronged u poor little lamb" till they feel better and I feel like a horrible person.
Well most of these strats are poor just be there with them there and except horrible things happen. I know this is not logical and in a way depressing. But at 45 i accept that i can't logic my way out. But yeah if I dont know you expect the more brutal stop being a panzy.
A large misconception about INTPs is that we don't have schedules. We have perfect schedules, they are as follows: -Procrastinate on task, -Watch video on why procrastination is bad as an excuse to procrastinate -realise it's one AM and that it's time to do four times as much work as we needed to -finish daily session of overachieving by falling asleep to the sound of our morning alarm clocks. -repeat
I used to do that more often when I was younger. Spent the night playing computer games and then, suddenly... Oh, it's already 6 am. I'm going to sleep. 😅
@@fungisrock8955 i agree, i think the big difference is intjs typically think that ''ideas without action are pointless'' while we see the idea as its own reward
Hahaha! This is so true! I am in a 12 step program and at first I thought the slogans were so cheezy. But after awhile I started to use them pretty much just as reminders for how to deal with whatever I'm currently dealing with. They actually help once you get over the "this is pointless" part haha! It's like you get brainwashed after awhile, but in a good way.
So college started this week, I already put off writing two essays due tomorrow and wrote both of them in less than 2 hours. What I hate about being an INTP is not having the energy or motivation to finish something in time because I know I'll do it better and faster when under pressure lol or am I just lazy and over college?
Yep yep, happens to me with working on art, I sit around at home after work for hours then at like 10pm look at my art supplies and think hmmmm then its get art stuff out, do this and then voila new painting done...
Is it more procrastination or analysis parylasis that hurts when you need to finish a task for a deadline? Sometimes my brain won't shut up about everything else I'd rather do when writing a paper. If that's the case I may put on some music. Everytime I go off-task, suddenly the music kicks in. It helps me sink into the paper, because eventually I can't even hear what is playing.
I'm an INTP (or I've been typed as one) and I used to struggle with showing empathy. However, I took many psychology classes because I'd love to be a psychologist when I'm older and I understand emotion and empathy now. I'm not actively empathetic. In fact, I'm extremely apathetic and detached from most people uneless they're my family but I know how to 'fake' empathy, well enough for people to say I'm a good listener.
You know you are not an INTP when : - you can't multitask. - you don't spend time re reading what you wrote - you don't think of yourself as smarter than most and yet doubt that conviction all the time - when ESFJ's are not the bane of your existence.
I once really hated this one ESFJ all because we are just too different, like him annoying me to hell, and being a very religious person while Im an atheist. Now, I consider him my bestfriend despite our opinions always contradict.
@@ulfricstormcloaktheaslikr930 a rare case, glad for you, and i could see it happen as my dad is an esfj and we get along ok despite major differences. But only ok. I wonder why would an esfj be your BEST friend Edit : all other esfj i know i dont like. My dad is the only exeption.
I usually say: “still breathing.” If I don’t like that person. Or “let me be honest with you, I don’t do small talks, but I appreciate your effort.” If I like that person. :)
You know the hardest thing for me ever is trying to do something I’m not familiar with. Because my brain will tell me I won’t be able to understand every little detail of it and it discourages me. For example, cooking. I’m not a cooker... but my mother is a bit more traditional and would like a daughter who knows how to cook. So I have days where I cook for the family and every single time it’s my turn it’s agonizing. I want to make X but I realize that I will never make the perfect X because of all these “rules” of cooking I don’t understand, of every combination of ingredients I don’t know of that would make the perfect taste. It discourages me so much and it’s daunting that all I do is make the same types of food over and over again. Some people will think of it as lazy (it is lol) but at the same time not! I HATE cooking because of this and I find myself thinking about this with other things I don’t know everything of which of course I don’t know everything about anything! So I feel so powerless sometimes and so limited. Yes, if I had all the time in world, I’d try to perfect this and that and learn all I can but I don’t. Just wondering if anyone else struggles with this also.
oh dude im an intp and i love cooking, just because of the fact that with the right ingredients i can make absolute everything with everything. I despise traditional cooking where i have to follow certain rules but i love it when i experiment and make my own recipe out of the old ones, like an improvisation of some sorts.
Dude, Learning something takes about 10 years. This kills me for real. My brain scream "It will take forever to understand this for real just stfu and go do something you know how to do". ffs did i said it kills me? yeah, it does. Nice to see im not alone tho.
Not in the context of cooking, but I completely relate to the paradox of wanting to learn everything, but also be GOOD at everything, and some things you can only learn by doing, which implies you'll be crap at it when you first start, which I can't stand so I either give up early or don't start at all :/ I suppose that could be considered laziness, but I think that with INTPs it goes deeper than that; it's more like you feel really overwhelmed by the years of effort you would have to put in to truly master something so you try to avoid doing the thing at all, as opposed to being too lazy to do a simple a task.
As an INTP, I will unintentionally hurt anyone without apologizing but the 2 ppl I genuinely care about and adore must be protected at all costs, bc they r the chosen ones to see my sweetheart side
Closing slogan: playing off the name of your channel, "Share the Love" might work. It might also work as a kind of Jedi mind trick to get people to 'share' the video.
I ever want to make a schedule for my everyday life, i want to make a bullet journal and agenda just like everyone else. but i always ended up not doing them and just do improvisation to them lol. I can't deny im an INTP :v
Sofie Nahendarani this INTP’s can almost always follow their schedules and systems, they feel lost without them. From what you’ve said you sound like you have a systematic subconscious but an interest based ego. You’re probably one of these: INFP ENFP ESFP ISFP These types are subconsciously trying to become systematic but their ego makes it really hard to follow the schedules systematically so they end up “improvising” as you say
@@elby6980 yeah maybe it's right too, because 2 years ago my type result is ISFP, but when i took the test again lately, the result is INTP. maybe over time, I use more logic and intuition in my life, which makes me an intp. but sometimes I'm also still affected by the Fi function, and that's why i still improvise my schedule. Btw thanks for the info :)
Sofie Nahendarani np for the info, by the way your personality type does not change, it is a natural preference and is permanently set during early adolescence. Also try to stay away from tests they are usually only about 30% accurate.
Lost Scream Fi is your ability to value things by how much they mean to you and/or others. Fi is not a measure of how sensitive you are (although that can come as a byproduct.) There are two parts to your personality: -Your nature (Your cognitive functionality) This does not change your function order is set for life. -Your nurture (How you utilise your cognitive functions) This can and does change all the time. If you are an ISFP you will always be an ISFP, your cognitive stack does not change unless you get a serious brain injury. However, you can change your nurture. If you were to magically go from being an ISFP to an INTP, you would suddenly find it incredibly hard to value how much something means to you.
I'm perfectly okay with "not knowing" things... But I have to at least attempt to learn it. Basically I NEED to try to know, but I'm fine if I never succeed at knowing.
INTP's are Ti doms, they basically need to understand and analyze everything. They're also the ones that answer everything with "depends" due to how wide their perspective is. Their Ti-Ne combo makes them so open minded and even though they (generally) lack social skills it's still so lovely to talk to them nevertheless ^-^ I love listening to you all
as an INTP I actually agree with the "My Truths" thing on the basis that it's literally impossible to prove anything to be real as it all exists in subjective reality. SO really everything is a subjective truth. The only thing that you can do is find contradictions in logic which debunks "personal truths" if the other person can't defend it. The thing that's annoying about the sentiment "My Truth" is when the person chooses to ignore all other possibilities. Then I want to punch hole in something.
Yeah, I like to constantly mess with my brain. Even if something has hit me as a truth, after some time I again start contradicting it or look at it from different angles to expire it.
There is truth in what you write, but as a practical matter, we must all agree on certain truths in order to function as a society. I'm mentioning this because I'm an INTJ. :)
I badly agree with this, I have a friend that refuses to see anything other than their own perspective so I get irritated so much that we always end up in arguments. It's like they're refusing to see that other people experience something differently and I'm the villain for trying to widen their mind
Cold chills down my spine. I doubted if I was INTP, I think I wanted to be an INTP and could have faked the results subconsciously. Every single one hit home and could find strong examples from the past week.
Not strictly an INTP thing also happens with a few other types but hearing: "That's just the way things are" or something along those lines. When people act as if rules can't be bypassed or changed in any way and no i matter how stupid they are they need to be followed. I fucking hate school, literally why can't I wear my hat inside? It's dumb
I went to buy a wedding dress years ago and after bringing me like 3 that I wasn't happy with, the shop worker said with a slight huff: "So this is an analytical decision for you." And I was like... "Yes. Everything is."
OMG! I did not realize that was an INTP thing. I have a terrible sense of direction. I got lost all the time before GPS was invented. I hate when I tell people I'm driving to ____ on a long trip and then they ask me, well did you take route blah or highway blah? Hell if I know. I just follow the GPS.
Really? This doesn't make sense to me, i can never get lost, i always know where i am just by using logic. BUT a lot of times i zone out and skip the entrance i should have gone (but this doesn't count as lost to me)
2:46 - The "My Truth" ... Coming back to this video (I left a comment 4 years ago, apparently, not about this point), I've learned to appreciate "My Truth". I've realised that we all live in our own subjective realities, where our personal experiences at the very least, if not also "type", means that as we age, our processing and perception of events becomes unique, leading to plenty of times where there is a "my truth", because the objective, neutral "truth" is either imperceivable or of little consequences next to the subjective truth.
Speaking for myself as an INTP, I only "people-please" to keep harmony so as not to cause conflict. It's a selfish move. If everyone around me is calm an happy, then I don't have to deal with the negative emotions of others or people having a negative view of me. It's simply conflict-avoidance.
Schedules take too much time and effort to maintain and change all the time. Systems are superior since they can be applied to anything that pops up. Systems solve the root of the problem forever everytime that happens again in the future.
Naturenerd1000 a schedule is a type of system though... INTP’s are constantly making schedules , they just have the ability to remember it, so they don’t feel the need to write it down.
K V I its possible that you obey by these systems so much that you don’t even realise your following them however, you would have some conscious awareness that you are always following a system if you are a true INTP.
I'm more concerned with logical consistency than "truth," because the absolute facts are usually impossible to discern without sufficient evidence. Also, anybody with kids or a job has to develop a schedule. In my case there's a sort of frantic clinging to the schedule with constant failures caused by forgetting, misplacing, oversleeping or zoning out. What seems like normal attentiveness for others seems very difficult for me. As a defense mechanism, I always put things in a specific place and leave reminders to myself everywhere.
“Some things just shouldn’t be analyzed.” I was immediately repulsed by this statement. I felt it in the pit of my stomach it was that bad. Anyone else have an overreaction to any of these or just me?
"INTPs can't deal with not knowing" is false. You can just use your Apathy and stop caring as usual. Also just because you have a Schedule doesn't mean you're not an INTP. I often make schedules when doing New things or trying to make a new Habit stick. TBH, all of the "You know you're NOT an INTP when..." thigns can be overcome through Time and Work. For Example: You know you're NOT an INTP when you're Comfortable with Other People knowing your Identity Online. You seem to have Overcome that "fear" just fine. And in case you're not an INTP other RUclipsrs and Actors are good examples.
Oh yes. I can write a very clever paragraph to a project to my colleague - and then say "feel free to use it in whatever way you find fitting". I really don't mean this -but I just turn on my apathy filter and it's all working out. Also, if you set people free, they will usually love you -and then I just realised that they will be much more accomodating...and use your entire paragraph...
For the not knowing part, as an INTP, I either really care about something and think about it for 27572948 hours, or don’t care at all and tune out when people talk about it
You know you're an INTP when you suddenly spit a random word out of nowhere. It's when INTPs' auto pilot for a second forgets to keep the train of thought internal. *thinking silently for 10 minutes* Pancakes *continue thinking* Im an INTJ but i know INTPs by heart
My brother is an INTP and he's better at dealing with angry emotional me than my other siblings, he can actually calm me down by just not adding fuel to the fire and I really appreciate that.
@@FM-ed7wm if it's directed at him it's a different story, because he would actually listen and try to solve the problem with me instead of dismissing me and adding fuel to the fire. So usually if I'm arguing with him(which is rare) it's a calm argument and we actually get to a solution
Regarding offending others, as an INTP I feel it’s so classless to be rude. I’m actually quite good at walking on eggshells over certain matters for the sake of my self respect. However, where Ti is involved, that’s a totally different situation. I don’t see Ti as rude, it’s simply informative and, imo, people should be informed even when it causes butt-hurt.
I'm pretty mixed between my T and F about even, but with important matters im definitely T. I typically dont see how my arguing will help and so i just don't bother. But I'm probabaly missing something here. Is Fe a thing since that is how would adress this, cause logic just fails sometimes. Now I'm going to have to read deeper about all this. Sorry for the ramble.
I offend people on purpose sometimes just because I’m a piece of shit who likes to see how other people lose their minds over something simple. But in other cases I just give up and walk away because I’d rather keep all my thoughts to myself and then later forget about the situation than walk on eggshells. If I think a person won’t be able to handle what I’m going to say they don’t deserve to hear it.
You know you're not an INTP when you actually buy calendars to plan out a schedule and jot down important dates in the coming year, instead of just hanging them up to stare at them for their nice pictures, even though you often get too lazy to switch to the next one once the month is over.
@@lovewho It's a sad truth. You don't even know how many calendars people have gotten me where I only see about four to six months worth of the pictures because I'll randomly look at my wall and see it's stuck on July when it's the middle of September. And even though it would only take two seconds to move to the right page, I often don't bother.
Not INTP: - you have one hobby and you never change. - you're confident in your knowledge and rarely question it, or yourself. - you often get straight to the point when explaining something. - you barely have any unfinished projects.

One time i gave presentation and told them the truth that they are lacking creativity and everything should be analyzed, they got butthurt. I then became so depressed with my job because what i did everyday was copying shit from other companies. They eventually fired me because i said their company sucks.
"My truth" to me is like a vacuum cleaner to a cat. I know right there and then odds of that person being full of crap is inversely proportional to the odds of us being friends.
You know you’re not INTP if while watching this, your thoughts haven’t branched out independently because of some idea mentioned, and you started building a mini-theory on the 3rd second of the video There’s yet more to come, so each time this happens, you rewind back the video, like 100 times.
One person I knew said with a full conviction in his voice: 'There is no such thing as univeral/reality truth, just personal beliefs and perspectives'. My brain literally skipped through gears and gaped in horror, and I was stuttering for a full minute before producing a reply to THAT. Overall, it was fascinating to see how his brain worked within such a framework, especially taking into account that he also believed he had a Ti in his function stack.
Your not an INTP if you’ve never been in the middle of explaining something to someone and then zone out and completely forget what you’re taking about.

Hey, maybe.
I'm right there 🤣😂
Well every once in a while it occurs to me that all these different personality models are humanity's best attempts to understand the patterns and variations that develop among the various individual humans.
UHG i feel seen and i don't like it!!!

You know you are an INTP when you edit a comment immediately after posting it because you “found a better word for it”
Actually, I'll do the same, as an ENTJ.
@@sherbet3310
I'm fascinated by your input, and I was mentally engaged as I read through your comment.

You're an INTP when you read through all these comments, find that you relate to all of them. Then realize, you're not alone, there are others that think the same way. But you still think you're alone.

this is hilarious HAHAHH
"that sucks bro" is the best I can come up with most of the time.
Lately, I've really gotten into the psychology. As an ENTJ, I've gone so far as to express how I feel about myself and how I feel about others and different situations just so that I can (artificially) relate with certain types. In doing these things, luckily, I've had better communication with feeler-type people.
That's rough buddy
In my country we say: “hectic”. It’s a common phrase so it doesn’t offend most people

"oh man that sucks"
There are no “my truths” . There is only fact and opinion.
Indeed! ~ Nathan
Ever heard the phrase alternative facts... nothing could be a bigger admission to losing, than unironically proclaiming that phrase in a debate.
Except "facts" are actually just opinions that are backed up by slightly more convincing evidence 🤷🏻♀️
As an INTP, i hate having plans. They never go as perfect as i imagine. Glad to see i am not the only one who hates this

You should talk about the phrase, INTP’s are the warmest machine and INTJ’s are the coldest human.
We had to explain to our son when he was six years old that his grandmother might not tell him
the correct time.
I remember hearing the phrase before, at some point I imagine I'll do an INTP vs INTJ video ~ Nathan
@@appletree6898 I don't see how being passionate is relevant. Any function can be passionate.

Tried being organized once... Never doing that again dhdjdkdj really just wasted my time writing a schedule i never followed
“Tried being organized once” - that made me laugh straight away!! ~ nathan
I love the idea of schedules and can spend hours trying to make them perfect. However, I could not follow a schedule if my life depended on it. All it takes is one thing to go slightly wrong or for me to find literally anything more fun to do and I give up on it.
I've written pages of schedules in my life and never looked at them again, because I couldn't bring myself to actually do it hahaha
Yes, lately I've been saying "Because of... reasons." and then leaving it. It brings me joy. 😊

@@rithrius5384 They seem like an INFP.
Intps are great when you need objective perspective and someone to just listen you without getting involved....and that's sometimes desirable
This happened a lot to me
Im very emphatic too, when it comes to emotions, some person I know dont like the way sometimes I advice. Its better just consolate with soft words than anything else, people likes more that way even if I prefer my own way to deal with emotions. God, for social situaciones sometimes I just try to think what a normal person will do, its hard ahahhaha
YES- i give people solutions, not comfort.
The sentence "Some things just shouldn't be analysed." actually horrified me and made my heart beat faster.
Ariana M I didn’t delete my answer...?

As an xNxP I also have a calendar in my head. But I can't have too many appointment in it - otherwise I will be stressed/confused.

@@arianam9977 Same! I can make the perfect schedule and leave enough room for all the possible contingencies but for the life of me I can't follow it.
Intp college student here, the answer is double major and a couple minors. Should do the trick. :)
That's also a trait of mine as a most likely INFP
My sister is an INTP-T and, she has a hard time picking who she wants to be. She's interested in lots of things.
This! THIS! Absolutely this.
that is sooo true!
But I have no patience

A large misconception about INTPs is that we don't have schedules.
We have perfect schedules, they are as follows:
-Procrastinate on task,
-Watch video on why procrastination is bad as an excuse to procrastinate
-realise it's one AM and that it's time to do four times as much work as we needed to
-finish daily session of overachieving by falling asleep to the sound of our morning alarm clocks.
-repeat
Hearing bird noises outside window in morning before you even wake up to start your day
I used to do that more often when I was younger. Spent the night playing computer games and then, suddenly... Oh, it's already 6 am. I'm going to sleep. 😅

Ah yes, the last minute cramming. All INTPs have that one in common ~ Nathan

@@hutaobestgril6612 same here
damn i understand this so much
Not in the context of cooking, but I completely relate to the paradox of wanting to learn everything, but also be GOOD at everything, and some things you can only learn by doing, which implies you'll be crap at it when you first start, which I can't stand so I either give up early or don't start at all :/ I suppose that could be considered laziness, but I think that with INTPs it goes deeper than that; it's more like you feel really overwhelmed by the years of effort you would have to put in to truly master something so you try to avoid doing the thing at all, as opposed to being too lazy to do a simple a task.

Fi is your ability to value things by how much they mean to you and/or others. Fi is not a measure of how sensitive you are (although that can come as a byproduct.)
There are two parts to your personality:
-Your nature (Your cognitive functionality) This does not change your function order is set for life.

Their Ti-Ne combo makes them so open minded and even though they (generally) lack social skills it's still so lovely to talk to them nevertheless ^-^ I love listening to you all
I so relate to this
as an INTP I actually agree with the "My Truths" thing on the basis that it's literally impossible to prove anything to be real as it all exists in subjective reality.
Yeah I see "my truth" as "my perspective".. I just leave it alone 😂 not wanting to waste my time on trying to change someone else's mind.

Seriously not impressed with that..
(Further analysis needed)
One of the deans at my school said we can't bring *juice* to lunch. I asked him why he said "That's just how it is"... I wanted to die of the cringe.
@K A they don't even let us use the vending machines lmfao
😅💣
I went to buy a wedding dress years ago and after bringing me like 3 that I wasn't happy with, the shop worker said with a slight huff: "So this is an analytical decision for you." And I was like... "Yes. Everything is."
You know you're NOT an INTP...when you never get lost going home from work even though you've worked there for 12 years and lived there for 8.
Haha! Amen to google maps! ~ Nathan
I thought that just me that do things like these...
BUT a lot of times i zone out and skip the entrance i should have gone (but this doesn't count as lost to me)
reminds me of ranpo edogawa from bungou stray dogs lmao-
You know you're _NOT_ an INTP when you talk to actual people (not on the internet).
I'd guess ENTP or INTJ.
I think all introverts can relate to that. It made me smile though ☺️😁
I guess I'm ENTP now
Re corrected lol. I was super tired when I wrote this

I feel like all INTPs are secret people pleasers
Well all fe users kinda are
Not sure bout that... I think we just like harmony and peace in our lives...
@@robinsoncallou7937 cmon, we care about other people. We are just too off in our own introverted thinking to act on it most of the time
Very veeeeery secret.
I agree, absolutely.
Naturenerd1000
a schedule is a type of system though... INTP’s are constantly making schedules , they just have the ability to remember it, so they don’t feel the need to write it down.
Maybe I have systems ... But I havn't conscience of them ...
@@elby6980 schedules are limited systems and are of no real utility, because of lack of possibility of improvement
I certainly have that reaction whenever I hear that too! ~ Nathan
Apathy... how did I forget about that ~ Nathan
The person who wrote this is an INTP

I'm late.
You're not an intp if you start bragging about being an intp.
You know you're an INTP when you suddenly spit a random word out of nowhere. It's when INTPs' auto pilot for a second forgets to keep the train of thought internal.
*thinking silently for 10 minutes*

Im an INTJ but i know INTPs by heart
Love this comment! Hopefully you'll enjoy the INTJ version of this video when I get around to doing it!

Yep spitting words is valid..

I just had one of this moments, I'm constantly finding new and better ways to describe myself.. Currently my go to word is astute

My brother is an INTP and he's better at dealing with angry emotional me than my other siblings, he can actually calm me down by just not adding fuel to the fire and I really appreciate that.
Even if the anger is directed at him?
@@FM-ed7wm if it's directed at him it's a different story, because he would actually listen and try to solve the problem with me instead of dismissing me and adding fuel to the fire. So usually if I'm arguing with him(which is rare) it's a calm argument and we actually get to a solution
it’s his ESFJ subconscious

Regarding offending others, as an INTP I feel it’s so classless to be rude. I’m actually quite good at walking on eggshells over certain matters for the sake of my self respect. However, where Ti is involved, that’s a totally different situation. I don’t see Ti as rude, it’s simply informative and, imo, people should be informed even when it causes butt-hurt.
Well said ~ Nathan
What's "Ti"
@@crow1628 Introverted Thinking, an INTP's dominant cognitive function.
You know you're not an INTP when you actually buy calendars to plan out a schedule and jot down important dates in the coming year, instead of just hanging them up to stare at them for their nice pictures, even though you often get too lazy to switch to the next one once the month is over.
Well played ~ Nathan
@@lovewho It's a sad truth. You don't even know how many calendars people have gotten me where I only see about four to six months worth of the pictures because I'll randomly look at my wall and see it's stuck on July when it's the middle of September. And even though it would only take two seconds to move to the right page, I often don't bother.
It's true, the only reason I would ever get a calendar is for the theme
You know your an INTP when you have to look up videos about your personality type because the website was to vague.

- you're confident in your knowledge and rarely question it, or yourself.
- you often get straight to the point when explaining something.
- you barely have any unfinished projects.

I worked in chinese company before and everytime they asked me to copy things for the advertisement without analyzing it, i feel like someone just punch me in my unexisting balls. One time i gave presentation and told them the truth that they are lacking creativity and everything should be analyzed, they got butthurt. I then became so depressed with my job because what i did everyday was copying shit from other companies. They eventually fired me because i said their company sucks.
