you know you are an INTP when You have done the test multiple times, researched everything about INTP and watched 1000 youtube videos that you relate to but yet are not 100% convinced, well that is me.
These "Not" videos are greatly helpful! It results to less bias. Rather than identifying yourself to what you want to be, you're actually determining what you don't have, it's more like the deduction method used for a multiple choice-type exam.
I wouldn’t say personality type was a perfect deduction, though if you determine what you have and lack, you inevitably induce a higher than random probability that you are or are not a given personality type.
@@brosisjk3993 if you're a true INTP, you could never be 100% certain (without solid evidence) But you could take for granted the absurdly high chance that you are based off of extensive research The fact that you've done this extensive research (and watched this video) I feel further proves that you are most likely an intp (correct me if I'm wrong) (with valid points and reasoning)
You know you're an INTP when you're sceptical about being an INTP. I always thought I wasn't because of stupid stereotypes. Every time I take the test, I just have stronger INTP traits.
The tests are accurate to a point because they're based on the information you gave them on who you think you are. For example they don't measure if you're optimistic or pessimistic. So being an O INTP or N intp would be a completely different person. Likewise they test whether you're a thinker more or a feeler more. but these are not opposites you can be a thinker and a feeler. So you could change the test to say are you a thinker or a believer. So you could test whether you're a person that thinks things through or person that just believes what you're told. Or a feeler or a stoic. Meaning either you are unconnected with your emotions will you hide them. The point is there's lots of things I could have tested you on these just happened to be the four
That's due to your bias... You already know what INTPs act like... You also have a preconceived notion that you're already an INTP... Naturally you tend to think that you're acting the same way an INTP would... Happens to me as well... People like us need to take a better test for seeing what we really are
Noooo...tests are not inaccurate they're (MBTI tests) invalid from the outset as they use non Jungian definitions of functions & utilise the false dichotomies. I test as an INTJ in MBTI & did so on the official step II test yet I've been typed by CPT as a divergent TiNi ENFJ which is by far more accurate. I'm afraid no test will give you an answer irrespective of how honest you think you're answering the questions. I advise you seek a typology service like CPT.
@@anastasialenkova-molchalin5874 ya I’m not an intp coz I got different results from different test but some intp and some traits from other other mbti type fit me
"wow you really did me prowd at that party I forced you to go to... You really seemed to take an interest into what the one person I introduced you to was saying" "well yes... They were interesting"
If it hasn't been done already, I think a good topic would be about how people stop growing because they tie themselves to their type code and/or stereotype themselves.
I personally grew from being an unhealthy INTP to a (moderately?) healthy ENTP and if not, just an ambiverted INTP. I almost told myself to stay with the average stereotype of INTPs until I realised that I've been isolating myself from others to cope with my already lonely state. However, I finally took time to actually reflect on myself for the past year, and realised how I needed to express myself and really socially interact with others since I was deprived of talking to others about my interests and personal thoughts. I tried my best to set up a positive mindset and talk to others, eventually flexing my Ne function to keep conversations going. That time I was an unhealthy ENTP, mostly pissing people off and making them tick (I'm pretty sure I was unconsciously coping with my negative state and distracting myself). I tried to keep working on myself after that and developed my Fe, growing to be more considerate of other people's feelings and careful with what I say. Now, ticking people off doesn't make me entertained, but understanding/considering other individual's opinions and discussing topics does. I'm more interested in others' perspectives and comparing it to my own, and that makes it even more fun for me rather than debating and proving someone wrong. I'm really glad I put in actual effort to improve myself as a person and I do believe people shouldn't hardly stick themselves to their mbti stereotype without growing to be a better person.
Indeed. Carl Jungs theories were to provide a framework for people to understand their weaknesses and work on them Myers-Briggs and her mother developed their Myers-Briggs Type Instrument as a way to make understanding Jung's theories easier for non psychologists again with the intent that people can use them as means to improve themselves not to simply hang a label on them and say "Oh I'm XYZ thats why I cant do that". But hey Humans love their labels, categories, "identities" and tribalism.
@@Pabz2030 Interesting. Every time I try to listen to this channel, I get so confused. I'm not even sure whether I care enough to go down this rabbithole of personality types. How can anyone be so rigid in their thinking of who they are? We grow. We change. That is normal. I also think this incessant analysis of one's own "personality type" is a reflection of a world where people are just too self obsessed.
Signs that you are *not* an INTP. Sign 1. -Your primary mode is reactive. -Your thoughts require an external outlet. -Your natural state is engaged with an external medium. Sign 2. -Vivid internal frame-working is more optional than compulsive. -Your thought relies more on general principle than precise analysis. -You prefer to present the established facts absent any theoretical elaboration. Sign 3. -Your logic is more attached than detached. -Your thought is seldom removed from self-concept. -You experience little curiosity for mechanisms, systems, and logical puzzles. Sign 4. -You happily focus on one potential at the expense of another. -You struggle to judge multiple perspectives alongside each other. Sign 5. -You feel secure in your consistent social attunement. -You have little in the way of ‘social bi-polarity’. -Extraverted feeling is extensive of your dormant state. Sign 6. (Se blindspot) -You easily feel the raw intensity of ‘the moment’. -You can lose yourself in tangible experience with no thought to consequence. -You struggle to anticipate the logical sequence of events.
bruh, I first thought it said "signs that you are an INTP", so when I read all of this, I'm so confused. It's all weird and wrong for me, I suddenly doubted myself hard XD. And when read it again, I finally saw the "not" 🤣🤣🤣 I'm about to lose my mind despite knowing that these are the opposite of an INTP. I thought I mistyped myself, gosh XD.
As a non-native english speaker, I struggled with the pace of the video too! It did kinda lean towards “let the facts speak for its self” rather than explaining it in a simplified manner. But the ideas were well organized and informative enough to help me understand, or at least gave me more concepts to research about further.
This was really informative and made me a lot more confident that I was in fact an INTP. This was mainly because some stereotypes made me think that I might be an INFP that wanted to be an INTP, and that the results I got from the tests might be biased because of that. This really helped a lot to clarify things, so thanks! Now... off to watch the video on INFPs to make sure...
from the experience of the creator of the CPT (I've seen him commenting on this before), people who fall between INFP and INTP are typed as ISFP. This happens because of the metamorphic dynamics of ISFPs. From what I understand from the CPT explanations, INTPs tend to mistype themselves as ENFJs, ENTJs, ESTJs, ISTJs, and INTJs
@@birbzyscape Perhaps. Fi is a function that is sometimes misunderstood. I believe that Fi "behaves" differently in each cognitive type. The INTJ, for example (the least common type in MBTI communities in my opinion), only seeks to insert empirical data captured from an external lens into its individuality (Fi)
Hahaha making sure you’re not INFP might already mean you’re a true INTP. I was rather the other way around. I think I wanted to be INFP but no this video is too clear.
@@watheos6730yes re ENFJ as the INTP can confuse their thinking processes for the holistic cerebral thinking of the ENFJ; the binary nature of dichotomies in MBTI such that it would make out that INTPs are abstract thinkers...that's not to say they can't but it's not their dominant way of being. INTPs are a type I greatly admire; they can certainly help with my blind divergent TiSi. I used to confuse my SiTi subnetwork for TiSi & the fact my axis is very fluid made me mistype as an INTP when I'm definitely a divergent ENFJ.
Thanks for the video. Even though I self-tested myself a thousand times and pretty much every time it came up INTP, I still had doubts about my results and conclusions and found myself questioning whether I was actually an INTP or I *wanted* to be an INTP. Having a list of qualities that INTPs did not have helped me affirm that I wasn't being biased and that I'm likely an INTP.
dude same also i haven’t watched this vid yet im just scrolling through comments. The first time i look the test it said Infp and it was pretty much relatable except the values part, my values aren’t as a typical strong infp. But then i went “omg maybe i’m just biased towards intp because it’s smart and logical and maybe i want to be intp” im still unsure actually. I’m like 15 and im still like trying to figure out 💀
"...and it is not unusual for a more confident and outgoing INTP to have extensive social circles." This! I needed to hear this. I always thought that I might not be an INTP due to me being a very friendly/talkative type person. I don't like the stereotype of INTPs (IxTx in general) being cold/detached as every type can have a big circle of friends when outgoing/confident enough. I really appreciated this video!
@@adonai6256 wow...u r so true. I don't think it's very cool to "not socialise" . Be an extrovert or introvert, knowing how to socialise is a skill we must all learn. Yes, we don't like being with more people; but when the situation arises, we need to voice our opinion...or may be lead them at some point. I am tired of the image of Intp as the intelligent one working silently at corner. No....we own confidence to present our viewpoints too.
Your explanation on Fe has been quite a revelation to me. I am known in my social circles for going dead silent after a good burst of socializing and everyone starts worrying if something happened to me. Getting me drunk seems to be the most effective way of avoiding this, so it becomes a priority to my friends at every party.
Alcohol is pure poison that, unlike most forms of poison, reaches every organ and can even cause Alzheimers. If you value your intellect the logical stance is to stay away from it.
my teachers always yelled at me when I didn't respond like the others kids and sometimes they raged at me bc the way I did my tests(my own way of thinking). even if i was right with my mathematical skills, they couldn't accept the way I think it has been really difficult since then, i cant do calculus the "right" way, bc I calculate it on my mind and then can't explain it but somehow I always got the right answer, I just absorb the basics and my brain calculate it the different way. after I turned 18yo I did my mbti test with a therapist:)
That's relatable. My silly math teacher put a softball question on the test. Answer had to be just X belongs to the set but I instead represented the same by exclusion. He was pissed. I also hate demonstrating all my steps because most steps are quite basic. But the way they calculate the points, pushes you to document them all. It's annoying.
as an enfp who mistyped as an intp the first time i took an mbti dichotomy test, i wish i could've watched this video years ago. would've saved so much time in my type research. great video!
But how did you get properly typed, then? Did you get typed by a professional, because if what this guy - Harry? - says is true then random online tests are, kind of, useless? Or did you use this video to re-type yourself?
One entertaining yet often socially unfortunate side effect of dominant Ti is that before I engage with a situation, I have to process the cutaway scene in my mind. It's so awkward to start laughing and not be able to explain why...
Thank you Harry! Great content as always! I particularly liked your thoughts about the INTPs Fe. My Partner is an INTP and the way I describe his Fe is “pure”. Like he uses it skillfully yet there’s something that feels like a childlike (not childish!) innocence and joyful enthusiasm present. He is a good teacher for me about the beauty of Fe, the function that previously bothered and confused me most in others. It’s great to have you break it down so articulately and to learn more about what I’ve noticed in him.
@Bobby McBobface I’m sure. My son is ENTP and his Fe seems different. He has more control over it and can use it to “make things happen”- and does! He also can kind of run people over with it if they get in the way of his Fe plans. Like if he’s trying to get a group of his friends together to go camping he’ll be like, “Mom, you’re gonna drive me and my friends to this place that’s 5 hours away tomorrow” without asking if I’m free or willing. Yet he can also use it wisely and create truly amazing moments for others. But he has more choice and refinement. The INTP using his Fe is like a little 3 year old and the dining table, using his best manners that he recently learned. So sincerely beaming with pride and the ability to contribute to this moment between people. Or, in stress, scared that he’s in trouble and everyone is going to shun him. My ENTP son, on the other hand, if he thought people were upset with him, would probably be like, “ Oh well, no big deal, I’ll go make some more friends tomorrow”.
The mention of playing a game within a video game best describes how I enjoy video games (and I do love video games). I come to find that many of my friends do not enjoy games the same way as I do. There is a certain sense of joy that I get from, say, optimizing a mechanic within a game or discovering interesting ways to accomplish different tasks. That being said, many games go unfinished when their mechanics become too easily mastered in which I can simulate exactly how every encounter will occur throughout the rest of the game. Makes it uninteresting when I can determine the outcome, in favor of myself, with too much certainty.
More often than not INTPs appear I think delightfully eager to keep the pace socially ... and perhaps a tiny bit disappointed when they don't get to 😖 Great to see more of your videos, Harry!
I think because of the Ti-Si convergence and Se blind spot, I tend to realize how great and/or meaningful an experience a while after it actually happened.
Ahh finally, I can be at peace for a few minutes from my analysis of my potential personality type after watching this video and being reassured for the 100th time that I am an INTP before beginning the process all before bed and staying up until 3am again 😃😃. Jokes apart, excellent video, beautifully explained our pysche 👍🏽
ok, i just came to the concluding that i'm 10000% an INTP mistyped as INFP. it was under my nose the whole time, and still took a long time for me to realize. this channel is incredible, your level of understanding seems way above average
as someone that’s constantly undulating between infp and intp on every test, this video finally confirmed that i am not an intp. being an infp in the science field, i mistook the development of my logical side as introverted thinking because i would draw my own conclusions from a vast network of PROVEN ideas. however, it was never natural for me to derive my own logic through trial and error (something needed for an intp to create their own personalized playing styles in games; deep learning of the mechanisms in a system). i am a user of created logic, not a creator of it. such a helpful video! thank you!

The most powerful INTPs, in my opinion, are those who have obsessed about a subject, pushing them to mastery... I know an INTP who has never pushed anything in his life (53yo). He knows a lot of things and is very smart, but he has no mastery of anything. I know another one who had 2 phases in his life (50yo) in which he obsessed over 2 things, and he became extremely good in those 2 things. I personally think it is a waste, when an INTP does not reach mastery in anything in his whole life. They are so smart. It like wasting your most precious talent.
"Time you enjoy wasting isn't wasted time." An INTP learns for the sake of learning because it satisfies, when a topic no longer offers satisfaction in return it becomes a chore to pursue. I think that a common experience of INTPs is that they desperately wish they could 'just pick one thing' and master it, they know they have the capability but lack of capability is never the issue.
its kind of scary how accurate this thing is, the fact that someone can know me better than anyone i know just by knowing my four abstract letters and their meaning and what they entail is kinda freaky.
This is why MBTI is such a useful tool to understand different viewpoints in family, socially, strangers, and in the workplace! At this point, I wish someone can read me and not misunderstand me by assuming that I would have the same thinking/feeling/sensing/observation process as them. Sometimes it gets tiring to communicate and react according to other people’s viewpoints that I wish someone can understand me without me having to check every time if they misinterpreted what I said.
@@chirashidon4200 I found some people who seem to pick up on what I say ,with far less distortion than others. An ISTP probably with >120iq my childhood friend >20000 hours of interaction face to face, and an ISTJ also probably >120iq >5000 hours of interaction mostly Voicechat, very stable person but openminded to reason. My energy levels tend to be positively impacted interacting with them.
When I read comments like this, exaggerated ones, I question whether the person is being honest or just wants to feel special. Obviously, this guy studies these things as a theory. If the theory is accurate, then his assertions would hold true. What is scary about that? It just means that that logical framework is kind of sound & fits the reality. When you say that you can predict lot of things by knowing just 4 letters, that's absolutely ridiculous. You are not considering your own biases & the pretenses in the behavior exhibited by the person. It would be right next to impossible to "type" someone by mere observation. You can get a rough idea but to trust your assessment is a pitfall. He is the only guy who makes any sense to me in the MBTI circles because he goes in depth & isn't on surface like most other youtubers. His theories seem cogent & sound. Most other youtubers rely heavily on the generalizations & that's how we know that they are inaccurate.
This was a great one. Really helped me understand myself, even after ~2yrs of personality study. I'd say there was only 1 that made me consider, so I'll take that as a positive sign I am INDEED an INTP! I've sometimes felt that I'm a ENTP or something else (INTJ?) because I read books by INTPs that describe their internal process as being slow, or online INTPs talking about "missing jokes" that are going by in social situations, and I've never felt that way. But you basically mentioned those traits by name (by summary?) which I found very interesting. I've never struggled to pick up on or identify social cues, etc. Only to fully understand. I mainly struggle to be OK with them and know how to cope, reciprocate, and understand social emotions the way others seem to be expecting. I relate to historical INTPs being called empathic like Lincoln, but I never know what do DO with that info. It mostly just makes me feel bad. Plus I've almost never been left out of a joke when it comes to understanding, but I only find about 50% of jokes I hear to be actually funny, especially outside of a basic grin in recognizing an attempt was made.
I feel like there's a lot of overlap between a particularly Ti-driven INFJ and a very Ni-proficient INTP. I'd actually love a comparative analysis video on that, because I think there's this potential for both types to appear far more similar to each other than either type would to the INTJ 🤔
I agree! I am fairly certain about being an INFJ (I've done an extensive research to be able to type myself but I doubt I'll ever be 100% convinced-) but INTP (as well as INTJ) are two types I often find myself relating to quite well so that would be a very interesting analysis!
You know you are when you come after searching the whole day to be sure still coming to these videos to have SURE, and then 5 minutes later, you're doubting of yourself again and coming back.
@@CognitivePersonality Awesome, I'd be looking towards that, but just to add to that, I am an INTJ (and sometimes I feel like I have some very INTP traits and that makes me question my own type)
@@CognitivePersonality I would still really like to listen about it as well. I now look a lot for the differences between these types just to understand what is at least more related to me than just on the equal level. Even typing myself by not only the MBTI system it gets the result which may be as for INTP, as for INTJ as well. It's like I'm or quite really strict to myself INTP, or really creative INTJ. Functions are almost flowing between each other, making me on some middle between them. I considered myself as an INTP just because I thought for an general INTJ I'm not collected enough or strict, but in the same time for general intp I'm also not that... so much willing to explore everything, only what I'm interested in even if there's a lot of stuff and like to dig in and master my skills as they can be useful. People consider me quite kind, though I'm not afraid to say straightforward things about what I think about. It like a quite balance which in the same time... bard to understand what's actually dominating more. Why I even started to suspect that I'm not an INTP when many tests showed me this (actually INTJ as well, but more like a second dominating) and I was sure before that I'm an INTP? I started to analyze my original characters' behavior and noticed that most of these characters, actually almost every if them are types of XXXJ. I'm not sure that INTP would make a lot of characters who are mostly strict to themselves and others than be more flexible in different things and exploring. And so I started to analyze myself as well and, wow, it appeared to be really hard to find what my functions are more dominating. So, yeah, even if I watched other videos and also which compared INTJ with INTP, I would like to watch yours as well as you explain it in detail. Because none of these videos didn't make me sure yet what type I'm more. I mean... literally, none of sources, videos, discussions, help of chat GPT as well didn't help me to understand the exact type. Thank you for reading and I hope to watch it if you do.
I have taken the test 7 times now. one every month to make sure that the way I was feeling then didn't affect the results of my test. this video made sure to make me realize that I am no doubt an intp
Yay! INTP content! The only time I feel I’m affected by Extraverted Sensing is when I’m drunk somewhere a band is playing. Then I’m dancing until my body’s screaming at me to stop. I’m in my late thirties now, but I think I have a good hold on Fe. I don’t think I ever really drop Fe around people, even those I’m most comfortable with, unless I’m really stressed and need to be by myself. I also almost never offend people these days with an offhand comment. I’d love to see a video (or eight) that gives a task to try for each function, or function pair.
The part about being more playful and expressive in social media than I am in person hits home for me. People whom I've chatted with online quite a bit are rather surprised to find that I'm rather different in person. I recently met a person who does RUclips videos and Facebook groups about collecting Star Wars and other action figure lines. We'd been chatting on those platforms for a couple of years, so when we met at a convention and had lunch together, I think that he was surprised at how quiet I was and that he had to ask me a lot of questions to get me to talk about collecting. The lunch meeting was much more awkward for me in person than it had been to chat with him on Facebook and RUclips. Enjoyable, but very awkward.
It made me so much happy to see you again. Please don't take such long breaks you are being missed. I love your content which are beyond the norms of the youtube. But besides all this I hope you are okay.
Videos like these explore the ground and air around the object, and not the object itself. To me, I find that to be more useful, for the ground, or rather, the space is more expansive than the topic of the object. There are a lot more _Not’s_ to catch you than there are _Are’s._
I had a tough time following this video; the pacing of going from one abstract concept to the next quickly had me glazing over and I had to drop trying as hard to understand what was being said just to try and match that pace and not be entirely left behind. The quickly shown visual aids and abbreviations were more of a distraction than an aid as they were only related, but not of immediate reference. The body language felt forced, like "I know I should be moving, activating sub-routine left hand circular motion for 5 cycles" In the end all I'm left with is wondering what personally type you identify with and what parts of your understanding of INTP aren't through process of elimination as is one of MBTI's major weaknesses. I can't help but think you might have different index that would probably put MBTI to shame, but it's currently too high level so you're attempting to fit it into MBTI's shoes to help explain it... I really don't know though, but wanted to share in case it could be helpful. Also sorry if this comes across somewhat toxic, I struggle with giving compliments direct. Typically if I'm trying to give throughout criticism it's because I liked something in general. ^^;
Omg I thought I was the only one struggling to keep up. I quickly went to the comment section to see if others had this issue. I felt quite dumb for not being able to keep up.
Can't agree more. I am not a native English speaker and I have a hard time following what he says. Turning on subtitles doesn't help because now I am distracted by his constantly moving hand. Guess I am not smart enough to be an INTP.
Also the title of each "sign" doesn't help at all. For example sign number 4 is titled "Ne Authority". What about that??? Let's even assume I know which function Ne is, does having that function mean I am an INTP or not? That is so unclear.
in order to further understand the concepts of this video, you should go into his playlists and watch the videos under "CPT Explained". there he goes in depth with what he means by specific things such as "Ne Authority"! it may help you get a grasp of the abstract concepts he mentions. he's essentially explaining the INTP under the theory of CPT so it may be hard to follow if you don't have underlying knowledge of the theory itself. hope this helps! :)
Perfect. Always love your videos. This video made INTPs seem more like a judger than a perceiver, which is good because we are a judging dominant (Ti).
@@CognitivePersonality I just finished and it didn't disappoint. :) The video was wonderfully researched and well thought-out. It's clear you make your videos with great care. After this video, I'm even more certain that I'm most likely an INTP. That being said, out of my own raw curiosity more than anything I'm increasingly inclined to look into your personality typing/application services to get your direct feedback. I'll be taking a look.
I'm glad you hit the point that INTPs Fe is actually pretty good. I've noticed this with some INTPs in my life. I feel sometimes like they are better at coordinating the Ti-Fe axis then myself, and are better at understanding the nuances in our shared social circles. Where I've just completely detached on occasion, they seem to have better maintained these connections over the years. I think too, this type, is the type of friend where I can talk to and it feels like little to no time has passed.
@@CognitivePersonality I had a thought that when a person's function is lowest, they actually place more value in putting more quality over quantity effort into it. Like all the other functions are actually in service to the bottom function. It's just one thought that I've had, and have played with processing.
@@Darren_S I've known a few introverted ESFJs and they are a far cry from INTP cognition. I find the attitudes of Convergence and Divergence come in handy here in these circumstances.
Do you know how exhausting it is when everyone (the way we perceive it, meaning people we have not encouraged to do it) comes to you to discuss their problems and to cry on your shoulder? In a way functions being ranked is one of the worst factor in Myers-Briggs, for Fe has always been sharing second place for me, while in other things I have been typical INTP. Thus everyone was Extremely surprised when test said (and not Myers-Briggs, one of my friends used me as a data gathering subject for his degree in psychology) I am a very deep introvert.
Hmmm, so far I've always managed to notice if I still have socks on when I'm about to jump under the shower. Such awareness must imply I don't have an Se-blindspot. Time to doubt my INTP-ness again.
The funny thing is that when you mentioned Ti focusing on more "detached" logic, and more prone to taking a more objective viewpoint, I immediately paused the video and thought about the implications of what that meant and whether I was an INTP based on whether I intiuitively knew the principles upon which my points and frameworks are based upon. In studying the differences between Ti logic and Fi logic from a very analytical and impersonal angle, I may have ironically showcased INTP behaviour :P It's important to point out that although i've done a lot of reading up and so far, the INTP personality type describes my internal thinking process and who I am best (for a period of time, I was even convinced I had to be an INTP), i'm still very unsure about whether I'm really an INTP, especially due to a fair few inconsistencies that i'm trying to resolve. At the very least, i'm at least somewhat certain that if i'm not an INTP, i'm likely to be an INTJ or INFP, or maybe even an INFJ, although I consider the INFJ probability fairly unlikely. With regards to this, I do have a question though: You mentioned about how Ti dominants need to consciously dip into their internal feelings in order to access them. In that case, would it be right to say that Fi dominants intiuitively know what their base values and principles are, while Ti dominants, although they have values and principles (they are human beings after all), don't consciously have access to the connection between their logic and principles? If that is the case, being Ti dominants, they would have to use the lens of analytical thinking to analytically determine the connection between their framework and internal principles, thus requiring a conscious effort. In that sense, Fi logic would be intiuitively aware of the principles and values that their logical argument is based upon, while Ti logic would not be so sure as they are not unconsciously certain of how the two are connected (which is also linked to the point on Ti logic being more detached), and thus a Ti dominant would have to consciously put in effort to determine such a link? (I apologise if this is nonsense, i'm just trying to determine what exactly the difference is between Ti and Fi, and the implications of not having conscious access to principles driving various frameworks).
In a way, yes, for we really question our base values and principles, as we are never sure we have not made a mistake. We never say: "we are who we are," rather we ask: "Now who we are in the light of the newet acquiret information?" I hope it explains something.
@@kairemeriniit I can somewhat see where you're coming from, in that I also tend to reassess my internal framework and endlessly question whether a certain approach or value is the "right" way to do something or the "right" thing (of course, the question of what is "right" and "wrong" is another matter entirely). However, what you've said seems slightly vague. Naturally, anyone will question their base principles in light of new information. It's not like any one personality type has a monopoly on introspection and reassessing, and although we might be able to reason that certain personality types have a greater propensity to question their base values than others, it seems rather inaccurate to say that this would be a distinguishing factor for any one personality type. In other words, the line seems a lot blurrier than reassessment vs acceptance, and generalising this behaviour in such a black and white manner seems rather strange. In addition to that vagueness, it seems that introspection upon hearing new information is more emergent behaviour from the cognitive functions, rather than a description of the cognitive functions themselves. Thus, describing the way Ti and Fi operate via means of such emergent behaviour leaves room for question. From my understanding of the introverted functions, upon hearing new information, Ti assesses how that new information fits within a preconstructed mental framework, Fi assesses how that information lines up with the individual's values and principles, Ni looks at the data and attempts to synthesise a deeper level insight as to what that data means, while Si simply compares that information to past experiences to see how it matches up. In light of this, employment of any of the four introverted functions could be described as "now who are we in light of this new information?", just that each introverted function does that assessment in a different way. As such, my guess as to what "now who are we in light of this new information?" is really meant to say that a Ti-dominant who believes that the new information is indeed valid would reassess their mental framework to see how that new information fits in with their current framework used to describe themselves, thus manifesting in the emergent behaviour of "questioning values and principles" as well as "who are we in light of the new information?". Once again, i'm still trying to brush up on my knowledge on the jungian functions, and I apologise if what i've said isn't quite accurate (maybe introspection is indeed the key domain of Ti, and thus a display of it directly reflects a Ti user?).
@@huaen8880 Might be able to help. Not hugely studied on types, but I think I have an essay that may work. I'm an INTP, so I likely cannot properly envision what an FI dominant Ti dip would look like, but we can start with how I conceptualize Ti-Fi myself. For me I have values, or ethics, that I hold dear. I follow the adage "The unexamined life is not worth living" quite closely and follow something akin to Stoicism. Many of the guidelines I follow were ones created by myself before finding belief structures that either justified or helped to expand or solidify my own internal structures. I like to think I have a fairly well-developed Fi, and I consider it to be a very valuable tool for "truth-seeking." That is I "gut check" quite often, however the difference for me is that I don't attribute it to being as proof, rather it's simply an indicator of direction. The easiest example I can give for this is a scene from the 2004 movie "I, Robot." Sunny is running down a hallway towards a Macguffin that will kill the rogue AI, VIKI. VIKI tries to win over Sunny by stating that her logic is undeniable, that humanity's freedom must be curtailed, they have to be overthrown in order for the Three Laws (ultimate human safety) to be successfully fulfilled. Sunny's response is something akin to "I understand your logic, but it feels cold." I've had discussions with friends where I could not argue against the logic they were providing for me about some topic. I'd normally tell them I'd have to think about it. Sometimes I would come back and state that while I cannot argue against their logic I also cannot accept it because it feels wrong. They'd like to point out that means I was being irrational to which I'd agree they are likely correct but that I could not accept what they're saying, at least not yet. Of course this is before I became well versed in circular logic, manipulation of axioms in a priori arguments and the like, so in many cases I was likely right in my estimation. However, I also realize that my gut feelings are quite often wrong. They are a guide towards valuable questions, they are not answers in and of themselves. Where my Fi is proven wrong are places where refactoring is needed in order to re-orientate my internal structures. To simplify, I do not simply accept logically sound arguments because they are logically sound; instead they must fit with the rest of my cognitive map of reality. An holistic worldview is paramount; cognitive dissonance and inconsistencies are antithetical to who I am and are a natural outcome of unexamined encapsulated thought. I've mellowed somewhat on this as I've grown older, however having an accurate and as objective as possible understanding of the world is still a key driving motivator for me. For an Fi with Ti dip, an inversion might be accurate. Someone who generally uses their own feelings to determine what to do or where to go. They're likely driven by expanding or experiencing their own personal feelings and generally may use arguments or logic to guide what they do without being bound by them. This might mean that they will try and rationalize actions often and may not be able to logically explain what they feel even if they have some internal coherent concept. They may use logic or thinking to try and "find themselves," or they may use concepts to identify themselves with. Honestly it's really hard for me to write what an Fi-dominant person may be like without it coming out as sounding selfish. The most extreme example of this process (and therefore possibly the most archetypal) I can think of would be Kanye West (rapping about the 300 Romans), or Russell Brand. They use these loose understandings to try and explain themselves. They can come off as stupid, but they have the capacity of showing deep understanding if you sort of read through the words they attempt to use. There's some pretty valid and accurate thought there, but it's predominantly non-verbal and likely to be simply understood by them, internally.
@@huaen8880 A short metaphor just occurred to me that may help. Ti with Fi dip is like a thousand piece puzzle with about 1/4 of the pieces placed. You're trying to put together the puzzle to make a coherent picture, Fi is when you examine the piece against the picture on the box to figure out its orientation or placement. Fi with Ti dip is like a good concert. You're there for the experience and a good time but Ti is what is used to try and memorize the event or explain why it's so good. Not a lot of thought went into this metaphor, so use at your own peril.
i’m currently having my bi-weekly typology crisis, and after being typed as an entp, then intp, then entp, then intj, and now intp again, i’m finding this video very helpful and the contents very relatable to the way i think.
Could you do 5 signs you're not an ISFJ too? I also think that it would be better to phrase it more like what a type naturally pays attention to rather than what they're actually good at because there are a lot of reasons outside of type that could lead to deficits in different areas such as not understanding social transactions.
The two do tend to blur together but I hear you, and do try to place the emphasis more upon predisposition than the skills that arise from such. ISFJ would make more a great video!
First video I'm watching on this channel. This was really good, except the "bonus" point. It's a minor thing, but INTPs live in the "then" but also the "possible futures". By perceiving what's likely to happen, we cover the inability to really perceive what's actually happening all around, instead just picking up enough information to filter down the possibles/probables to the most accurate and appropriate one. This is easily tripped up if we're in a particularly new situation where there's insufficient prior experience to draw from in order to extrapolate likely scenarios, which does unfortunately limit our exposure to gathering a wealth of experiences as we avoid situations where there's too much likelihood for bad things, if we're with people we sufficiently trust, that's overcome, otherwise we remain in our safe spaces. Gotta love those catch-22s.
Great video! I’m a little more convinced I am an INTP. I had a lot of issues feeling confident if I was because of the occasional moments I feel like I naturally use the cognitive functions not in the INTP stack. Especially when it comes to Ti versus Te. It seems to me if you have Ti, it would be hard to not use Te occasionally, so this makes way more sense. Also, your explanation for the Ti Fi dip explains a lot as well.
This can be explained by network theory if you care to take a look at Harry's newer content - ie we all use all the cognitive functions to some degree contingent upon context etc, rather INTP would be your core gateway type.
I've noticed I'm different, being intp, than others in how I deal with a serious medial condition (neck vertebrae instabillity and frequent bedridden) and I think it would be valueble for people who adress MBTI to connect this strong understanding of functions with the people who are in similar situations as myself.
The whole convergent vs divergent thing is a perspective I hadn't considered before. It makes things make much more sense. As an intp, I'm constantly trying to Ti perfect my reason based systems while divergent with Fe in terms of taking bits and pieces from various value systems and more content with those being more vague than exactly right.
Thanks for the content! Im a female ISTP with a MS and poor physical coordination so I'm not the stereotypical ISTP. There was always was the question of ISTP or INTP. But the thinking style breaks us out.
I’ve been an INTP for about 4 years now? or so i thought, i’m currently doubting that because i find myself drawn towards philosophy and psychology and nothing other than that. I’m also very imaginative, i think a lot about the future and the what if’s or possibilities but i tend to let the past guide me, so i’ve been questioning whether i’m a future or a past oriented person. INTPs are known for being logical and all that but in my case, i’m very biased. I come up with “logical” excuses to support my argument even sometimes knowing i’m wrong, that also goes same with friends. I, myself is a very chaotic person in general. I change my mind a lot but i’m not really into the concept of risking my life or decisions for a new experience, I prefer planning my day but i’d be lying if i say i don’t slack off and just do whatever feels right to me. Sorry for any grammatical errors, English is not my first language 😀 Now the question is, am i an INTP? i personally feel like i’m more of an ISFP but i’m not very adventurous nor artistic i still have zero common sense about cognitive functions, i will try researching more about it.
Damn this was the best explanation I have heard. When you talked about Fe, my jaw dropped at how accurate you were. I never* doubted I was an INTP and now I never will. *I doubted many times
one minor (irritating) thing that i observed among my intp friends was that "they're careful what they put into their stomach," to quote them directly, and boy, do they lecture you about it. on the contrary, i'm happy having frozen spaghetti for dinner every day. also they enjoy taking their time with their food, like taking tiny sips and bites, whereas i just wanna be done with it as soon as possible and get back to my daily activities :) is this si vs. se?
Your point about Ti-Te was very good. For me it usually kicks off with Ti to determine the governing equations or properties of a system. Then once those are known, the system has to be simulated using a Te-heavy process like writing code.
i’ve heard that being intp is rare especially for women and i am introverted and choose thinking over feelings and this video applies to me but for some reason i don’t think i am even after i took the test and watched so many videos 💀
apparently INTPs tend to second guess themselves and their ideas quite often, leading to them being sceptical about a lot of things, for me, the INTP personality describes me perfectly and yet here I am attempting to disprove the fact that I'm an INTP by watching this video, in order to prove that I'm an INTP to myself...
I was pretty good at accepting it because 1) I knew I was definitely an introvert, 2) Logical thinking and "objectivity" (as much as that is possible. The rest was basically reading all the articles and since I was reflecting and second guessing myself my whole life anyway, it was easy to see what fits best.
This is a good approach since it can be easier to see what you're not than what you are. On all points, I related more to being than not being. So, I guess I'm INTP, for now. I'm always open to changing my mind, but I've pretty much always scored as INTP, it's the type that I relate more in terms of its overall description, and the individual functions does make sense to me.
I find myself at a bit of a crossroads. Some of the points apply to me and some don't. The later pints I mostly can't relate to. Which is to say, my experience aligns itself pretty comfortably with the INTP experience. However, some of the earlier points are a bit more ambiguous. On the topic of introversion, my internal monologue has a tendency to spiral into places I don't want it to go, so I tend to suppress it by always focusing it on something specific. I dread having no stimulation whatsoever and in such events I usually choose something to focus on mentally. Could be related to ADHD, but I'm not sure if this makes me a Cognitive Introvert or Extrovert. I certainly don't relish dwelling on my internal monologue. As for abstract thought and the interest in systems, I do have a strong attachment to philosophical ideas. My mind goes there wether I want it or not, so I have made it an interest. As for other systems, waters are somewhat more murky. I have absolutely no interest in programming or anything of the sort, nor any other "practical" systems. I do take interest in videogame mechanics, but I prefer analysing them or the level design rather than engaging with them directly. There's also the topic of emotions. My own, in particular. I do struggle with putting labels on them, but I do feel them intensely and I can seldom scape from the most intense. I do have a tendency to suppress or not notice the extent of certain emotions, but I usually know they are there. I'm aware of my emotional blockade, which is partly the cause of my processing everything through logic first rather than emotion, so my ability to feel things in nuanced detail is pretty hampered and underused. I had a talk with my therapist recently in which I was told to "shut the logic machine off and just process the feelings by feeling them". It's a work in progress. In any case, I'm very aware of my emotional and internal live, and I analyse it in depth. I'm not sure if this is because I have decided to hyperfocus on it or if it indicates something or other about my functions. This is everything I could think of regarding conflicts with the points presented in the video, but I'm sure there's more. I've been having doubts for a while, but I struggle to know if it's due to my nature of never accepting anything as definite or a legitimate wrongness with the notion of being an INTP. I find myself not really conforming to the stereotypes very much at all, and though I know it's a silly metric, it does give me some pause. In case this makes any sense and anyone bothered to read this much, I'd like to ask if anyone could provide other types who are often mistyped as INTPs and the reasons for doing so. Maybe I'll find something enlightening to my experience. Thanks :)
It is possible you aren't entirely within a discrete category. For example, you may be more ambiverted. Some INTPs have a greater ISFP leaning than others, and some INTPs are comparatively more ENTJ-esque. Perhaps my ENTP subtypes video (interpreted from an INTP perspective instead) could help to pinpoint your variation. ENTP and INFJ sound worthy of consideration, though I can certainly see you as an INTP based upon information provided.
to develop further on Harry's suggestion, while some of your first paragraphs resonate with my experience, the "I'm very aware of my emotional and internal live, and I analyse it in depth" part would make you a surprisingly developed ENTP, if you were one, though of course that's an option. if "analysing it in depth" does not require from you an intense effort and constant need to refocus, while your brain tries to seduce you into "thinking about something else" to avoid the agony of having to deal with this, doesn't sound like your conventional ENTP. at least for me is much much preferrrd to process my emotions via external stimulus (using music to modulate them, or "letting go" via emotional movies) than really dwelling into them and analyzing them. or, more often, entirely forgetting about them (pretty useful when it comes to anger).
@@mygoogleacount You do have a point there. I feel like I'm both aware and at the same time pretty disconnect from my emotional state. I have constant emotional reactions to things, as humans are wont to do, and I make a habit of trying to determine where that reaction came from. Sometimes the answer is quite nasty, but I prefer that to not knowing. It takes a toll on me and I don't immediately know all the answers. It's a grueling process that I nonetheless undergo. This is a very mental process, however, and really letting go emotionally is a very different task. It's usually quite difficult for me to let go, and as you mentioned, music or movies tend to work like a charm. I'm an actor, so I especially feel this emotional unavailability within myself, particularly when it interferes with my work. I wouldn't say my mind tries to distract me with other things to focus on, but It's clearly not used to that avenue of thinking and it stumbles slowly forward as best it can. When it's about something major, though, or something I find myself returning to time and time again, be it fear or affection, I find myself spiralling out of control to the point where I have to stop myself sometimes, if the emotion is too negative, for fear that it will affect me too greatly. So I end up being both slow on the uptake emotionally and kind of playing a game of telephone with my emotions and at the same time obsessive to the point of distress. Thanks so much for answering, by the way, I really appreciate the help
@@michi4066 Circling and getting to places you do not want to be - that sounds very INTP to me. In a way our mind uses the same patterns someone else discribed above, and as such, our minds like computers can crash and run on the undesired directions. As of the systems - I think none has time and thought capacity to deticate to everything, even if we want to. And if you watched this video vloselt, then you noticed strong feelings ar not something out of INTP league. Unemotional INTP is just a myth, and would suit rather with some other type... ENTP ? Because of those feelings we can't shut the machine down, because we know others have them too. I think it is one of the roads to "INTP dark side", because that would just mask the everticking processor instead of shutting it truly down. It would just mask it with the layer of your feelings and tht, I am afraid, would ruin your Fe function.
You described me very accurately in this video. I was waiting for you to make this on INTPs so I could decide between ENTP and INTP with an objective source, and you helped me out. Thank you!
Based on observing the ENTPs in my life - it really comes down to whether you enjoy seeing other people offended or if you feel bad for it. ENTPs have a strong tendency to provoke people deliberately like an intellectual game, and reliesh in the backlash. INTPs don't tend to like to rock the boat and take backlash very hard.
@@justinwhite2725 we don't actually enjoy offending people, but we can enjoy provoking them and challenging their beliefs and morals, the more inmutable that person considers those, the better for us. the "being an asshole" is just a perception in the receiving end of that by certain types of people, and the only satisfaction we really experience when making someone unable to defend their beliefs is that this gives us an excuse for having a hard time figuring out which are our own (why have those if we can't defend them rationally?)
@@mygoogleacount yes, that's fair. So I will amend what I said. ENTPs are perceived as being assholes, INTPs are usually just unintentionally uncouth. The reality is that ENTPs usually say the things I want to say, but am too polite to do so and don't like rocking the boat.
Greetings! I appreciate your videos and different outlook on this everevolving subject. Id like to see more videos on single types like your entp empath video. Have a good day!!
Sign 5 is where I start to question it for me. I’m aware of the problem I have in social situations and have a ok idea of how to solve them. But when it come down to it I usually fail to apply it and end up embarrassing my self and making other uncomfortable so haha… if this wasn’t such a problem I would be sleeping all day instead…
The thing about Fe to me as an INTP is that I can't help but have this reoccurring sense that it often opposes logic. The collective conscientious seems for whatever reason to reject logical analysis even when most comprised of logical individuals. This in turn causes me to be very weary of popular ideas and institutions in general.
After I noticed the left-hand gestures I couldn't stop myself from highlighting it. Great video content though, not the usual oversimplified pop psychology powerpoint.
And here we are folks, about a week ago I began my (yet another) journy of MBTI self discovery, after a relatively long time of settling for being just an introverted ENTP, your video about the signs you are not an INTJ, made me question my identity once more, and what a journey this was. From the (apparently) classic game of "am I INTJ or ENTP?", to the no less fun of the "Am I actually INFJ?" game, I even somehow ended up an ENTJ for like an hour or two (no clue how that happened), the only thing that remained certain was that I am an xNxx type... Sike, of course I wasn't sure about the intuitive part, ISTP, ESTP, ISTJ, hell, I even entertained ESFP for a moment, and guess where it all brought me? Back here, honestly, it kind of pissess me off, how the "obvious" answer is (probably) the right one. To leave a little tip to other people who struggle with this the same way I did, ask yourself why you are really trying to find your type, for me what started all of this, was that I resonated with the INTJs constand desire for self-discovery, and expansion of the "self", it's how I justified to myself this, admittedly, borderline obsessive search of conclusion, but now watching this video I realize this was an excuse, in reality I just had this insaciable scratch at the back of my head, and I just needed to justify "wasting" time scratching it. On that note, will you be making a "Subtypes" video for INTPs? I can more or less guess based on other Subtypes videos, but still would like to have a video like that.
13:21 I'm finding this less true as I get older (and also having developed Fe through counclling during a major bout of depression/anxiety) I've found that I carry a mischievous/playful communication style all the time now with people I am friendly with. It allows me to quickly deflect things as a joke if I've said something that unintentionally offended someone. This mitigates the social backlash.
9:17 as a programmer - I sort of liken the Ne to a heuristic search like a pathfinding algorithm or a Monte Carlo tree search. It's basically like seeing all the possibllilities all at once and evaluating them and saying 'ok - this path here - that's the most likely one.'. Although that heuristic weighting adjusts the more new information I have on the subject, so it's constantly being updated and reevaluated every time the subject comes up. It's weird how accurately I can predict the future based on probabilities and past trends and yet, much like Cassandra of myth, seeing the future does me little good if no one believes me.
You speak like a Harvard college thesis paper, and as a person with adhd, I found it very hard to keep up and understand what you were saying, which made me feel a bit annoyed that people actually talk like this. Very educated way of speaking, which is great for you and apparently everyone in the comment section that had no trouble understanding you. But this alone is what made me realize, I’m not an INTP 😂. And now I’m off to find a video that explains this in laymen’s terms, while also researching how I can expand my vocabulary to the level of understanding this video with no trouble lol.
It's not a great video for people that haven't already seen a lot of other videos exploring the relationship between the different functions. His channel has a lot more videos that go into the details of some of the terminology used here but this one kind of assumes you are somewhat familiar with the terminology already.
I’m still struggling to figure out the differences between a les dominant type and a codec dominant type. Could you explain that more in detail? thanks in advance
The lens dominant places dominant emphasis upon novel experience, whereas the codec dominant places dominant emphasis upon ongoing rational conclusion. Lens dominants tend to be more codec-fluid (e.g. Te and Fe within an ENFP), whereas codec dominants tend to be more lens-fluid (Si and Ni such as in this case). I'll likely dedicate a video to this in the future!
I realized that I spend so much time researching, thinking I need more info, imagining consequences of each possible actions, and verifying my position that I miss the opportunity to act. Never feel I’m standing on solid ground, or ready to make the leap. And my ego will not allow be to make a mistake 😂😂😂. Cognitive analysis has made me know I’m not crazy.
Definitely want to make more ISTP content. The Ti dominant and Fe oppositional points in this video will apply to ISTPs, and, for now, it may be possible to take the inverse of the other points (except point 1) to approximate an ISTP equivalent (e.g. Se authority being non-predictive). Cheers!
When I get restless I tend to go on long walks, pace the room or dance- and think- instead of sitting and typing or writing and thinking. Ah! You fixed your hair; but it was so cute! I definitely don't just think about things like psychology, philosophy and science. In fact, I seldom think about them except so far as they intersect (often unnecessarily) with what I am thinking about that is more worth while. Like architecture, religion and how to make my sister's dog comfortable and happy. Or, how cereal boxes are made. And, why some transgender people want to be floopy mattresses on a foreign planet. And, one time I ran into a quiz that Aerosmith gave to females who were back stage, which had questions that were meant to find out who a female would be more suited to or if she was suited to anyone, sexually speaking, and I spent a good long time analyzing the body language of the band members- both in the photo and from memory- and considering which questions pertained to whom. It would have made a most excellent adult logic puzzle if the article had given even the most minute of clues. I'm pretty sure I sussed it, though. I gave my theoretic explanations alongside the answers to their fans and a few people that knew them more closely than that. I love logic puzzles The entire reason I can't - not won't, but can't- follow recipes is all wrapped up in reason # 4. Though, on rare occasions I can. Like, when I want to find out if that recipe on a can of buttermilk biscuit powder is as amazing as rumored That's about it, though. When I was younger, some people thought I was my own sisters or three or more strangers who bore some vague resemblances to each other. Some people didn't even think there was enough resemblance to understand why people thought there was a vague resemblance. I had different social groups and I looked and acted fairly differently in all of them, except one where I did all the things, but not necessarily all at the same time. In fact, one time I was watching a film with me in it, during the filming of which I had changed my haircolor, style and also my clothing and makeup. And, a dude that was also watching it thought I was two different women in the film, a different one watching the film and that the only reason I was critiquing the brunette was that I was jealous because I could never be the sort of woman she was. (sigh)
Hey, I'm absolutely loving your videos! You explain everything with such depth and patience, but still make it really easy to understand. Could I ask for an explanation for ENTJ v INTJ? I think that's something a lot of people struggle with, and I'd love to see your take on it.
Great video Harry, I’m very happy to see some more INTP content! After having being typed as one, I always thought INTPs identity were more fluid due to the social situation, while an INFPs would be more rigid. I’m not the most aware of this identity at all times, but my habits and behaviours differ depending on who I’m with. Would this be due to Fe?
Ne-Fe pairings in general are socially adaptable. Usually this would be a more passive adaptation but an INTP employing Fe convergently can be particularly seamless in their social adaptation!
So far have been objectively typed as ISTP, if not exactly, then a Ti-dom. The more I’ve studied the functions and systems surrounding them, the more I recognize how constant that interval framework is being critiqued. It really can’t be turned off, and sometimes it gets irritating seeing so many loopholes that have yet to be tested while other people see the current product as foolproof. Also the game analogy- I love it lol, I do separate runs in new video games just to see which style I’ll become attached to. Although I don’t find new entertainment that often, I’ve been zoning out to Mario Kart for years and it’s worked just fine 👍
I really enjoy your videos you are really unique and accurate with your analyses.I’d be really interested in a video of you analysing people and trying to type them like for example cosmicskeptic he makes videos and morality ,religion and things like that.
Hence; To alignment with intense INTP were very difficult to acquire either naturally or culturally, but the aspired natural one were among the nearest personality conjunctions, (I did not comprehend some part of discussions due to my simplified faculties.) Generally; This discussions were among the most healthiest intermediate-based convergent and a system-key paradox I ever seen this type is among the elite one 👍☺️🇵🇭✌️😁💝💗💖💐🌺🌷🌼🌸❤️🌹
Ok, to be honest, the video confused me a bit. I've been having trouble defining myself as an INFP vs INTP for a few years now. It comes out differently in tests, but you know how tests are. That's why I started to study functions in depth and I'm closer to INTP, with a fairly highly developed Fe - I'm 27. Also, I have very high Ne (I have 38735 ideas and thoughts all the time, which is tiring sometimes) and Si - I relate my life to past so often, in my bad days I can stuck so hard to it. However, the biggest problem for me to identify myself is my enneagram - 4w5. I know that it is often found in XXFX types. Also the fact that I am not and never have been strictly drawn to science, I even considered it a necessary evil, I hate maths and it seems boring to me. BUT I love science, all astronomy topics are just great and really interests me. On the other hand, I am an "artistic soul", I especially like writing. I have my own values, but who doesn't...? And I consider myself quite an emotional, loyal, warm person, when faced with hard decisions I don't always manage to keep such cold, objective thinking. It is also important for me to 'find myself', my desires, the answers to who I really am. Does this mean that I am not an INTP? Or am I just an exceptional INTP? Or am I an INFP after all? If so, empathy is hard for me, I generally don't like people (only my closest ones) and I could live my whole life on a desert island. But I'm a good listener, who like to think about problems in way to giving some solutions rather than emotional support. I have my own opinions and values, but I am not guided by morality, in fact such a thought pattern is abstract and ridiculous to me, because everything seems to be relative, I never make a division into "good" and "evil", I'm quite rebellious in this aspect and sceptical about most of things. Often facts are more important to me than my feelings, but again - not always. I like to allow for many possibilities and relate them, link them to each other, to what I have experienced and what seems possible. Help, haha, maybe I'm even the other type than INTP/INFP...
i can’t provide a useful answer on which type you lean towards more, because if i’m wrong i don’t want to misdirect you. but i just want to say that.. to be honest you look like a very interesting person to me!! good luck on your life journey!
I'd check out ISFP content on CPT ☺️ & the wider content in general as you seem to be conflating MBTI with CPT...ie Si doesn't pertain to the past, Fe isn't inferior etc.
i have taken the test now 7 times and the result has consistently been INTP and i believe i do not fit in this. In fact i dont think i can be trusted with myself enough to introspect. this is making have an identity crisis every 2 hours. i WANT to know my real type. how do i make sure i get something i actually agree with. the reason why i think i am not intp is because people keep saying they are interested in mechanical things and yes i am but my major now is psychology that i love learning about compared to my previous major which was computer science (loved it as well but not as much did suffer through depression after) Now, it could possibly be that i am more interested in psychology because i have been depressed for so long but when people keep constantly telling me how major is so different than my mbti and myself always thinking im not smart enough to be one is reall messing with me. how must i find my real type??
I'd ignore the 'not smart enough to be one' comment, but I would add finding our true type is honestly a long journey! I hope the videos on the channel help though.

I thought another nickname for INTP is “The Philosopher” because they’re the type generally known for being mini philosophers, like Socrates(who is thought to be an INTP. Correct me if I’m wrong.
I wanted to know if I was an INTP rather than an INFJ, but already at the first part I had my answer. I love reading about psychology. That must be my biggest interest actually, to "diagnose" people and myself. To understand the world around me. Gaming has never really interested me, apart from The Sims which I can play for hours (manipulating people and relationships). I love watching other people play, but whenever I have to hold a controller myself, my interest drops exponentially. But I do love a game with a good story (Zelda, Resident Evil 4, Soul Reaver, Final Fantasy..) But I still have to do more research. Alright. All points fit in, except for the first one. That makes me wonder a bit.
Oh, the sign 5 hit hard. I can not explain myself. I'm realy good at socializing, but it drains me so much. I only feel 100% secure to be myself with 5 close friends, with them, I don't feel drained. The social bi-polarity that I have confuses me so much. Sorry for the bad english.

These "Not" videos are greatly helpful! It results to less bias. Rather than identifying yourself to what you want to be, you're actually determining what you don't have, it's more like the deduction method used for a multiple choice-type exam.
Thank you, I'm a big fan of the format!
I wouldn’t say personality type was a perfect deduction, though if you determine what you have and lack, you inevitably induce a higher than random probability that you are or are not a given personality type.

(with valid points and reasoning)
People like us need to take a better test for seeing what we really are
@@mr.e7541 you're not exactly right there... But seems as if you got a point

If it hasn't been done already, I think a good topic would be about how people stop growing because they tie themselves to their type code and/or stereotype themselves.
I agree!
Indeed.
Carl Jungs theories were to provide a framework for people to understand their weaknesses and work on them
Myers-Briggs and her mother developed their Myers-Briggs Type Instrument as a way to make understanding Jung's theories easier for non psychologists again with the intent that people can use them as means to improve themselves not to simply hang a label on them and say "Oh I'm XYZ thats why I cant do that".
But hey Humans love their labels, categories, "identities" and tribalism.

I guess this explains why I also often end up with intj. My guess is that I was over-romanticising my Fi?
I’m like 15 and im still like trying to figure out 💀
Just for reference INFPs don't necessarily have strong values as their FiSi is constantly in a state of being excavated.
"...and it is not unusual for a more confident and outgoing INTP to have extensive social circles."
This! I needed to hear this. I always thought that I might not be an INTP due to me being a very friendly/talkative type person.

Sooo much can relate to this. Teacher always marked me down for not showing my working out.. Me thinking, "what working out?"

It’s great to have you break it down so articulately and to learn more about what I’ve noticed in him.
Thanks Molly, it's really cool to hear a direct relation to a loved one such as in this case!
I do think the Fe of INTPs is extremely underrated!
I think he probably INTP-9 unlike common stereotype INTP-5 enneagram.
Ah, a fellow soulsborne fan in the wild
More often than not INTPs appear I think delightfully eager to keep the pace socially ... and perhaps a tiny bit disappointed when they don't get to 😖

this channel is incredible, your level of understanding seems way above average
Why do you think that you're mistyped as INFP?
as someone that’s constantly undulating between infp and intp on every test, this video finally confirmed that i am not an intp.
being an infp in the science field, i mistook the development of my logical side as introverted thinking because i would draw my own conclusions from a vast network of PROVEN ideas. however, it was never natural for me to derive my own logic through trial and error (something needed for an intp to create their own personalized playing styles in games; deep learning of the mechanisms in a system). i am a user of created logic, not a creator of it.

@@bombba5359 and how did you calculate their IQ? Or is it your own bias that is the source of your prediction of their type & IQ?
Awesome to see you back in the game, BTW, will you make a video on “INTJ vs INTP type comparison?” Since this is a very commonly misunderstood topic
Yes that's a popular request for good reason! It's been on the list for some time so I can see that on the horizon.

@@CognitivePersonality I would still really like to listen about it as well. I now look a lot for the differences between these types just to understand what is at least more related to me than just on the equal level. Even typing myself by not only the MBTI system it gets the result which may be as for INTP, as for INTJ as well. It's like I'm or quite really strict to myself INTP, or really creative INTJ. Functions are almost flowing between each other, making me on some middle between them. I considered myself as an INTP just because I thought for an general INTJ I'm not collected enough or strict, but in the same time for general intp I'm also not that... so much willing to explore everything, only what I'm interested in even if there's a lot of stuff and like to dig in and master my skills as they can be useful. People consider me quite kind, though I'm not afraid to say straightforward things about what I think about. It like a quite balance which in the same time... bard to understand what's actually dominating more. Why I even started to suspect that I'm not an INTP when many tests showed me this (actually INTJ as well, but more like a second dominating) and I was sure before that I'm an INTP? I started to analyze my original characters' behavior and noticed that most of these characters, actually almost every if them are types of XXXJ. I'm not sure that INTP would make a lot of characters who are mostly strict to themselves and others than be more flexible in different things and exploring. And so I started to analyze myself as well and, wow, it appeared to be really hard to find what my functions are more dominating. So, yeah, even if I watched other videos and also which compared INTJ with INTP, I would like to watch yours as well as you explain it in detail. I had a tough time following this video; the pacing of going from one abstract concept to the next quickly had me glazing over and I had to drop trying as hard to understand what was being said just to try and match that pace and not be entirely left behind. The quickly shown visual aids and abbreviations were more of a distraction than an aid as they were only related, but not of immediate reference. The body language felt forced, like "I know I should be moving, activating sub-routine left hand circular motion for 5 cycles" In the end all I'm left with is wondering what personally type you identify with and what parts of your understanding of INTP aren't through process of elimination as is one of MBTI's major weaknesses. I can't help but think you might have different index that would probably put MBTI to shame, but it's currently too high level so you're attempting to fit it into MBTI's shoes to help explain it... I really don't know though, but wanted to share in case it could be helpful. Also sorry if this comes across somewhat toxic, I struggle with giving compliments direct. Typically if I'm trying to give throughout criticism it's because I liked something in general. ^^;
Omg I thought I was the only one struggling to keep up. I quickly went to the comment section to see if others had this issue. I felt quite dumb for not being able to keep up.
I did not understood a thing he said too I felt dumb HAHAHAHA thought I was the only one
Yep, and the opposite is true for the IxxJ videos too.
@@Diaming787 it means he is on the right track.
I'm always striving to put the emphasis back on the lens/codec dominant distinction, so this is really great to hear; thank you!!
Welcome back! I didn't realize how much I wanted this video until I got the notification 30 seconds ago. It's gonna be great as always!
Thank you, and I hope it did not disappoint!
I've honestly recieved some of my best social advice from INTPs; it surprises me how their Fe can be so often overlooked!
@@CognitivePersonality Objective Personality would say it's because they aren't actually INTP's but ESFJ's that typed themselves backwards.
In studying the differences between Ti logic and Fi logic from a very analytical and impersonal angle, I may have ironically showcased INTP behaviour :P
It's important to point out that although i've done a lot of reading up and so far, the INTP personality type describes my internal thinking process and who I am best (for a period of time, I was even convinced I had to be an INTP), i'm still very unsure about whether I'm really an INTP, especially due to a fair few inconsistencies that i'm trying to resolve. At the very least, i'm at least somewhat certain that if i'm not an INTP, i'm likely to be an INTJ or INFP, or maybe even an INFJ, although I consider the INFJ probability fairly unlikely.
With regards to this, I do have a question though:
You mentioned about how Ti dominants need to consciously dip into their internal feelings in order to access them.
Can we take a minute to appreciate that ponytail?

5 Signs You're Not An ENTJ please
Great suggestion!
I saw you on PDB.
@@thepanthar yeah i used to post there a lot , im still not sure im an ENTJ so that's why im suggesting this, whats your type?
Finding my type has been so challenging. Thanks for this video. So interesting and informative.
It's a journey, but I'm glad the video was helpful!
i’m currently having my bi-weekly typology crisis, and after being typed as an entp, then intp, then entp, then intj, and now intp again, i’m finding this video very helpful and the contents very relatable to the way i think.
Bro speaking in cursive
😂
And with Ne, divergent in conceptual ideas and taking in lots of information, but with Si honing in on preferred sensory experiences.
Great video! Love the written visuals across half of the screen emphasising each sign. It gives time to pause and take in the points thoroughly :)
Thank you, that's exactly the effect I hoped for!
Sorry for any grammatical errors, English is not my first language 😀
Now the question is, am i an INTP? i personally feel like i’m more of an ISFP but i’m not very adventurous nor artistic
i still have zero common sense about cognitive functions, i will try researching more about it.
Damn this was the best explanation I have heard. When you talked about Fe, my jaw dropped at how accurate you were. I never* doubted I was an INTP and now I never will.
*I doubted many times
one minor (irritating) thing that i observed among my intp friends was that "they're careful what they put into their stomach," to quote them directly, and boy, do they lecture you about it. on the contrary, i'm happy having frozen spaghetti for dinner every day. also they enjoy taking their time with their food, like taking tiny sips and bites, whereas i just wanna be done with it as soon as possible and get back to my daily activities :) is this si vs. se?
Nah idk, I’m INTP and I basically devour my food (unless I’m not hungry)
I don't care for eating, only when necessary
@@vanzwho854 same i second guess myself a lot and do have some characteristics describing the intp mbti type but i will never be 100% sure i’m an intp
@@CognitivePersonality Thank you, that's very helpful. I'll be sure to check out the video
to develop further on Harry's suggestion, while some of your first paragraphs resonate with my experience, the "I'm very aware of my emotional and internal live, and I analyse it in depth" part would make you a surprisingly developed ENTP, if you were one, though of course that's an option. if "analysing it in depth" does not require from you an intense effort and constant need to refocus, while your brain tries to seduce you into "thinking about something else" to avoid the agony of having to deal with this, doesn't sound like your conventional ENTP. at least for me is much much preferrrd to process my emotions via external stimulus (using music to modulate them, or "letting go" via emotional movies) than really dwelling into them and analyzing them. or, more often, entirely forgetting about them (pretty useful when it comes to anger).
Thank you!
My pleasure, I'm glad the video nailed it!
Great to have you back! Could you make a 5 signs you're not a certain type video for sensing types as well? It would be of great help.
100% I wanted to get the especially in-demand videos out of the way first, but I may do ESFJ next!
Great to see you back and also with an intp video. Just what my doctor ordered.
Hah, awesome :)
Greetings! I appreciate your videos and different outlook on this everevolving subject. Id like to see more videos on single types like your entp empath video. Have a good day!!
Many thanks! I'm intending to split most future videos into many type Vs single type formats to balance the macro and micro :)
English is my second language and this video made me realized how many words I haven't learned yet
I think I'd like to see an INTP INFJ comparison video. I feel sometimes like I have a even harder time differentiating these types then INTP-INTJ.
Yes this is a solid request!
Or ISFJ for that matter given the Ti Si loop.
I try to figure out the why of the Fe. More academic approach to what feelings are. Observation.
After I noticed the left-hand gestures I couldn't stop myself from highlighting it. Great video content though, not the usual oversimplified pop psychology powerpoint.
Hah that is most certainly a thing. I appreciate the kind words!
This just increased my level of confidence that I am an INTP
13:21 I'm finding this less true as I get older (and also having developed Fe through counclling during a major bout of depression/anxiety)
I've found that I carry a mischievous/playful communication style all the time now with people I am friendly with. It allows me to quickly deflect things as a joke if I've said something that unintentionally offended someone. This mitigates the social backlash.
Hey, just an spaniard right there! I´m totally sure I´m INTP, it just fits at 100%. I think you´re doing such an incredible job, thank you for that
9:17 as a programmer - I sort of liken the Ne to a heuristic search like a pathfinding algorithm or a Monte Carlo tree search.
Any chance you could make 5 signs you're not an istp? Thank you and love the content as always
Definitely want to make more ISTP content. The Ti dominant and Fe oppositional points in this video will apply to ISTPs, and, for now, it may be possible to take the inverse of the other points (except point 1) to approximate an ISTP equivalent (e.g. Se authority being non-predictive). Cheers!
@@CognitivePersonality Great idea!
I love logic puzzles
The entire reason I can't - not won't, but can't- follow recipes is all wrapped up in reason # 4.
I’m so happy you finally did a dedicated video for INTP! Thank you so much for your work.
My pleasure!
You're back! Great to see another video of yours! With all the things that are going on in the world right now, I worry for everyone.
Thank you! Yes I worry too, I shouldn't have gone so long with radio silence tbh!

This does sound very Ti-dominant congruent; thanks for sharing!
@@CognitivePersonality Of course, also glad to see a new upload from you in a while I hope everything is going well!
I really enjoy your videos you are really unique and accurate with your analyses.I’d be really interested in a video of you analysing people and trying to type them like for example cosmicskeptic he makes videos and morality ,religion and things like that.
Thank you so much!
I'll check that channel out.
My guess for Cosmic Skeptic type is INTJ. How about you?
@@aonaohafa I thought he is intp or enfp because he’s just like me.
Hence;
To alignment with intense INTP were very difficult to acquire either naturally or culturally, but the aspired natural one were among the nearest personality conjunctions, (I did not comprehend some part of discussions due to my simplified faculties.)
Generally;
This discussions were among the most healthiest intermediate-based convergent and a system-key paradox I ever seen
this type is among the elite one
👍☺️🇵🇭✌️😁💝💗💖💐🌺🌷🌼🌸❤️🌹
It’s really ironic how I don’t want to be an intp but keep getting typed as one
Why not? You want to fit in, or something?
You'll get a free awkward pass, wouldn't you like one too?
Awesome video. Please do all of your pre-planned and unplanned videos...eventually!
I assuredly shall!
@@affectojfgidi1246 thank you, i’m not. i’m just weird. 😆
@@antifragilejpg weird is interesting to me uwu
I'd check out ISFP content on CPT ☺️ & the wider content in general as you seem to be conflating MBTI with CPT...ie Si doesn't pertain to the past, Fe isn't inferior etc.
@@AnyaAnnika67 oh. it was a 2 years ago. i'm definitely not an isfp - just intp 9w1. :) x
Can you make a video of 5 signs you're not an isfp please? Your understanding of MBTI types is excellent. 🙏🙏🙏
i have taken the test now 7 times and the result has consistently been INTP and i believe i do not fit in this. In fact i dont think i can be trusted with myself enough to introspect. this is making have an identity crisis every 2 hours. i WANT to know my real type. how do i make sure i get something i actually agree with.
the reason why i think i am not intp is because people keep saying they are interested in mechanical things and yes i am but my major now is psychology that i love learning about compared to my previous major which was computer science (loved it as well but not as much did suffer through depression after)
Now, it could possibly be that i am more interested in psychology because i have been depressed for so long but when people keep constantly telling me how major is so different than my mbti and myself always thinking im not smart enough to be one is reall messing with me. how must i find my real type??
I'd ignore the 'not smart enough to be one' comment, but I would add finding our true type is honestly a long journey! I hope the videos on the channel help though.
The self doubt makes you 99% INTP. Haha.
@@CognitivePersonality hey! thanks for replying! your video sure did help me stop questioning it.
@@reload6887 i mean i guess so? i felt most comfortable with isfp like i fel tlike it was me? but only sometimes. i do relate to intp at times also but idk it's about the career options that mess with me
@@delulu6969 HAHAHAHAHAHA SHIT did i just dig a hole for myself
i was waiting for this video. this solidified INTP for me, thank you
My pleasure :)
does the fact that i keep googling stuff about intps since ive taken the mbti test and got intp twice mean that i am one? Im just confused and need reassurance as always
I thought another nickname for INTP is “The Philosopher” because they’re the type generally known for being mini philosophers, like Socrates(who is thought to be an INTP. Correct me if I’m wrong.
The philosopher would actually be more apt for the INFJ ☺️ (cough cough actual INFJs)
You know you are an INTP when you are pretty sure that Jung was just reorganizing astrology as a bit of a joke to mess with the other 15 groups heads.
Dude, are you alright? You look and sound like you have been ill, or had a hectic party last night and haven't kicked the hangover yet.
Good to see more content from you, though.
Haha, I filmed that first part when I was fighting off some kind of cold so definitely sounded a bit hungover!
Hmm, that would explain why I was questioning my initial observation by the time I got to the end.
Big thanks for this video, and your dedication to create content even when you're under the weather.
