  • Potter Tip - Short and Sweet
I've been using this technique for the last two years and since starting I've never had a lid on a glaze tub ever stick. No more struggling to open a tub where the glaze has dried and sealed it shut.
Ive seen the idea used with parchment paper which I initially tried but after 2-3 openings the paper would rip and I would have to start again.
After finding 'Press n Seal' on Amazon Ive never had to replace a plastic seal.
Its simple, its quick and its super effective. One roll has kept me going for two years and I've loads left! However I usually add this layer when I first open a new jar of glaze. In this clip Ive been starting to make my own glazes and soon realised I needed to use the same technique. Wish I'd realised that earlier LOL.
Hope this helps you in your studio, anything to save us time and glaze!

Great tip!!! I’ve done this for a few years now and it is a total game changer for being able to open the jars as well as not getting all of the dried glaze all over when you open them!!

@@FarForestCeramics I think I did tell you about that. When I first discovered it I thought it was such an amazing and helpful idea. I shared it with everyone I could.

I’ve never had a problem with lids sticking by wiping the screw area on the lid and jar after I’ve used it, saves using more plastic. 🙂

I wish I was as clean as you. No matter how much I wiped there was always one jar that slipped the net and got stuck fast.

It was a game changer when I started doing this, I regularlygo in and change all the paper too and then dry the paper out and make chips with it, the stuck on lids were so pesky. ❤❤

I tried paper at first but found it more messy. It ripped quite easily for me too. Preferred the plastic in the end. But you're right it's a total game changer. I cant remember how many times previously I needed to ask for help to remove a lid that was stuck tight, or ended up Dipping it in water upside down for half an hour before I could open. It's the simple things that help so much lol

I do this too and add a piece of cling seal to every new jar I open. What works good Jeanette is to pull cover back halfway leaving it on jar/container. Then I use the plastic as a reservoir to dip my brush into or wipe off on the underside so no need to take the plastic off. Hope I explained well enough. 😁 Great tip! Sure keeps them from drying out also. 👍

Great idea! I'll give that a go next time. Don't know why I didn't think of doing that. Thanks!

I need to do something like this, so clever! I hate glaze lids. Always gets stuck, and I break at least one lid every time I try to open a jar.

That's exactly what was happening to me. To be honest I found the best starting point when I first transitioned to this was the wash all the lids as well as wipe the rims in one bowl of water.....then make loads of mystery Chips from the water lol. Didn't feel so bad somehow.
