I was there with my sister at 14 years old dancing with the bear with the long neck on stage to the left with camera right on us while Robert Palmer was performing Addict to love but was cut out. Very disappointed but blessed to b at the opening of my beloved Michael Jackson. R.I.P. Michael. I will always admire your dedication and talent
So many of the celebrities no longer with us...Michael Jackson, Esther Williams, John Ritter, Gene Anthony Ray, Robert Palmer, and, oh yes, Bruce Jenner.
Wow!!!!! I was there about a week before the grand opening.. we didn't know what captain eo was at all. I remember seeing Robert Palmer on stage, but me thinking it was Michael J Fox. I'm about 10 years old at the time. We were getting in line to go to space mountain, and there were Disney employees by the entrance telling folks to line up for the captain eo show . Not knowing MJ was part of this nor knowing anything about captain eo or what it was. Watched the show and when mj came out the theater rupted in screams and cheers
Captain Eo was considered a 4-D film; and here's why: several of the special effects were incorporated into the theater itself! For instance, seat misters activated when Hooter sneezed; and special effects smoke would billow into the auditorium during the smoldering of EO's ship after the crash landing.
I was only six when this attraction came out and it still puts modern computers, CGI and effects to shame. I don't recognize many of these actors and I am a fan of Retro Television. Obviously I heard of John Ritter (Three's Company), Valerie Harper (MTM Productions), John Stamos (Full House), Richard Moll (Night Court), Soleil Moon-Frye (Can't be her real name), Elizabeth Montgomery (Bewitched, Victim), obviously Bruce Jenner (for reasons we will not get into), and Whoopi Goldberg (also for reasons we will not get into), Sissy Specek and I can't believe OJ Simpson made an appearance (Disney lucked out with snobs) but not the TV show or Movie they said he was playing in and Anjelica Hutson (who played Morticia Addams in the duel movie series Addams Family. It was nice to see Tommy Chong as I only seen him in That 70's Show playing Leo. God Bless the 20th century cause the 21st is not looking too bright so far.
Yrs Johnny, that s right the entusiasm and the will to produce " dreams" with great effects was so strong in those years 80s 90s . Infact in this years of present century what we see is often really poor, nothing exciting , violence and sex just to cover low quality . Well I am happy to have lived in the right same time of the greatest talented artist and loving charitable person MICHAEL JACKSON. FOREVER A LEGEND.
I was there as an adult in 1986 when Captain EO opened, I still have multiples of Hooter, Fuzzball, Idee Ody Geeks plush animals, 3D glasses and DVD of the production. I thought it was very entertaining production, sorry it closed.
Oh my gosh, I was there. I got to see the Moody Blues and Starship at Videopolis (now the Fantasyland Theater). It was so surreal seeing Grace Slick at Disneyland. They told us that Belinda Carlyle would be taping the next day, so I didn't go back (I worked there). If I'd known Robert Palmer was going to be there, I would have returned despite the mobs (it was taped in April and I was on vacation that week). Been looking for this Robert Palmer segment on RUclips for YEARS!!!!! Thank you!
It's looks good I love it so much it's looks like new show season Soopers spoof spoke show up Walt Disney company class starts in town Tomorrowland before New 1955 1986 1996
Does Lucas call Eisner "Mark"? lol. Lucas "people slaving away in this room for the past six months". And Eisner totally dismisses that comment. What a true American CEO
RIP Michael Jackson, Esther Williams, Gene Anthony Ray, Valerie Harper, Charles Bronson, Annette Funicello, John Ritter, Robert Palmer, Nell Carter, Alan Thicke.
I guess Michael was in the process on working the his BAD album ……but why wasn’t Michael there man I would’ve love seeing him perform “we are here to change the world live …..and a few songs from thriller
Yep actually around the time this was released he was already working on the Bad album and filming a bad Pepsi commercial getting it ready for the following year
I'm surprised that with an opening like this. Michael Jackson himself didn't get to come up on that concert stage and sing the songs from the film and perhaps do a Thriller track as well...
He was still in his prima donna stage. He didn't even show up to film the "Torture" video with his brothers. Quincy Jones had to tell him, while making the Thriller album, "You don't have to tell me how to be a Producer. I know how to do that." There are multiple decisions he made just based on his ego.
I remember this person. But I remember seeing this program at Disneyland. As a matter of fact, this person should know that he can see Anjelica Houston in The Addams Family and The Witches.
Watched this JUST for the Moody Blues. I watched ANYTHING, just for the Moody Blues. I'll STILL watch ANYTHING, just for the Moody Blues. Does that make me a Moody Blues fan????
When I worked at Disneyland years ago I talked to an older lady who was actually working at Disneyland at this time. She said that Michael was slated to appear at this premiere, but for whatever reason he flaked out. Her exact words regarding this were, “Michael Jackson was persona non grata around here for a long time after that.” I guess there are now rumors that Michael was in fact there...in disguise. This wouldn’t surprise me one bit. Michael was a very bizarre person.
Wow Justine Batemans kinda hot isn't she?...lol...hey call this stereotypically 80s but at least singers didn't hide behind autotune and lip syncing, and directors didn't hide behind cgi! Ha
I was there the day they shot the Moody Blues. Too bad everything was lip-synced. Afterwards, we saw members of the band in line for the Submarine Voyage.
27:10-27:17 Justine Bateman looks so uncomfortable. Especially after Patrick Duffy does that “yahoo” thing against her. That shit probably wouldn’t fly today
How much more 80's can this be? None more.
"Captain EO is going to be around for years and years and years..." He was sooo right!
Paul Hruby Although it did close in 1997 and was replaced by Honey I Shrunk the Audience.
13:35 OJ and Nicole...pretty eerie stuff
Why I love Captain EO: *“Michael Jackson”*
I was there with my sister at 14 years old dancing with the bear with the long neck on stage to the left with camera right on us while Robert Palmer was performing Addict to love but was cut out. Very disappointed but blessed to b at the opening of my beloved Michael Jackson. R.I.P. Michael. I will always admire your dedication and talent
"Addicted To Love", was probably considered too risqué. By the way I believe it was the next year he did a cover version of a Jermaine Jackson song.
So many of the celebrities no longer with us...Michael Jackson, Esther Williams, John Ritter, Gene Anthony Ray, Robert Palmer, and, oh yes, Bruce Jenner.
+uromaniac Also Gregg Burge, Nell Carter, Annette Funicello, Jackie Collins
uromaniac George Michael too :(
Haha, ya Caitlyn totally killed off Bruce
uromaniac Also, Stephen Furst
I remember when this aired. I still have it on VHS somewhere. Thanks for the memories!!
Slayd5000 me too!!???
Slayd5000 i remember sitting on the floor watching this as a kid, and cutting my Barbie's hair so it was short like Belinda Carlisles!
Cool!
@@sarahjones2064 awww the imagination and admiration kids have for their role models is such a beautiful thing
Lucky you STILL have it on VHS! Valuable Collection!!!
Damn I Miss The 80's!!
Memories!!! bring me back to the 80's!!!
Wow!!!!! I was there about a week before the grand opening.. we didn't know what captain eo was at all. I remember seeing Robert Palmer on stage, but me thinking it was Michael J Fox. I was 11. This was an AWESOME blast to the past!!!
Me too
I was -11 years old lol I was born in 97'
The MTV Purple Rain opening special is just as 80's a this.
Huh
This was damn near the epitome of the 80s, were talking late 85 mid 86..
Filmed in April of 86.
Captain Eo was considered a 4-D film; and here's why: several of the special effects were incorporated into the theater itself! For instance, seat misters activated when Hooter sneezed; and special effects smoke would billow into the auditorium during the smoldering of EO's ship after the crash landing.
and the lasers that were synchronized at the end to "Another Part of Me" ...

So 80's, I remember going to Disneyland in the early 80's when I was very young and seeing Rod Stewart perform near there, it was fabulous times!!
Oh my gosh, I was there. I got to see the Moody Blues and Starship at Videopolis (now the Fantasyland Theater). It was so surreal seeing Grace Slick at Disneyland. Those were the days.
I remember going to the opening day what a time.
You can stay for up to three days
Wow! Didn't know they did all that for this. Awesome.
I loved Captain EO I miss it
I been on captain eo attractions so many times
The fact that Eisner is always in the promos throughout his career is legendary 😂
This is incredible
This WAS America 😢
Great! Thanks for posting
I was there it was amazing stay there for two and a half days . Still have the weird t-shirts
One of the greatest sports star OJ SIMPSON!! Wow how time can change....
I had no idea Francis Coppola made the Captain EO Film for the ride. I still miss Michael Jackson though.
the whole universe miss Michael Jackson.
Anjelica was on the side seat not in the middle as panned by the camera. Great to see her with the love of her life, Jack. Did an amazing job here.
wish it was still there :/
This is awesome
I went to it in 89 was my favorit in disneyland . It was a gem that they left for years for others to enjoy kinda like a vegas show for kids .
God! I miss those days!!
Thanks for sharing this!
Iconic 80’s
IT'S BACK ! JULY 2015 !
***** well it not there now
Yeah actually it is in Florida Disney World !
Just back from my holiday there !
Clean-shaven George Lucas is the weirdest thing ever.
+Ethan Moore Who is with George in the car?
Clean-shaven and skinny.
Good ol' eighties!
This is so comforting to watch. Also MJ obviously
Captain EO is awesome but did anyone already know it was only 17 min long before it premiered
Watching this is more interesting than the movie itself.
i mean they was right this had to have been the biggest attraction opening in disney history
All for it ✨💫
These are the songs and music that should be included in a soundtrack!!!!
Im so 80s it hurts
I think that's Robin Thicke on the left w/ his dad Alan Thicke @13:50
It is he was 10 at the time
I LOVE Robert Palmer...🥰😍🤩😇!!!
Good old days
Way before you had to worry about this movie being pirated or showing up on RUclips the next day
Does Lucas call Eisner "Mark"? lol. Lucas "people slaving away in this room for the past six months". And Eisner totally dismisses that comment. What a true American CEO
RIP Michael Jackson, Esther Williams, Gene Anthony Ray, Valerie Harper, Charles Bronson, Annette Funicello, John Ritter, Robert Palmer, Nell Carter, Alan Thicke.
COOL, TIME TRAVELING!
Was OJ and Nicole removed at 17:51? Just curious because I remember when this originally aired and I know they we shown when Belinda was performing.
Pet shop boys will release their new album in 3 or 4 month.
Why didn’t THIS become bigger…?! It’s should’ve been the START of something much bigger and deeper…🤔😢😢
I guess Michael was in the process on working the his BAD album ……but why wasn’t Michael there man I would’ve love seeing him perform “we are here to change the world live …..and a few songs from thriller
Yep actually around the time this was released he was already working on the Bad album and filming a bad Pepsi commercial getting it ready for the following year
He was there in disguise, it was recently confirmed by a puppeteer who worked on captain EO with Michael
Enjoyed Starships performance of Sarah♥️🍷
I'm surprised that with an opening like this. Michael Jackson himself didn't get to come up on that concert stage and sing the songs from the film and perhaps do a Thriller track as well...
I miss the gondolas, wish disneyland would bring them back.
Damn.. Charles Bronson was there
Y yo aquí esperando que salga MJ en el desfile junto a sus co estrellas
It will nightmare lol
Amazing how they didn’t even mention Jack Nicholson.
How come Michael wasn't even there!?
He was working on the BAD album at the time
He was there, but in disguise. Ex DL cast member here.
@@PrincessSolitaire Do you remember his disguise?
He was still in his prima donna stage. He didn't even show up to film the "Torture" video with his brothers. Quincy Jones had to tell him, while making the Thriller album, "You don't have to tell me how to be a Producer. I know how to do that."
There are multiple decisions he made just based on his ego.
He was out of the public eye during most of 86 and 87. At this point he was starting to work on BAD.
And sure enough it was Robert Palmer on stage practicing his routine for the show...
Did anyone else catch the Prizzi’s Honor sequel reference? Wonder what happened and why it fell through.
I remember this person. But I remember seeing this program at Disneyland. As a matter of fact, this person should know that he can see Anjelica Houston in The Addams Family and The Witches.
OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD:):)
It was clever of them to put Dolph Lundgren (as opposed to the late Dolph Sweet) after Nell Carter.
The eighties is a hell of a drug ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They should've gotten Thomas Dolby to perform
36:29 OJ- “might as well face it, we’re all addicted to love”
Is anyone watching in 2022 and sad because it closed
A ticket to Disneyland in 1986 was $19.
6:19 ✨
Watched this JUST for the Moody Blues. I watched ANYTHING, just for the Moody Blues. I'll STILL watch ANYTHING, just for the Moody Blues.
Does that make me a Moody Blues fan????
This special without Michael Jackson on the opening is like WTF?
MJ wasn’t even there !
When I worked at Disneyland years ago I talked to an older lady who was actually working at Disneyland at this time. Dang it! They removed it!!!! I loved that mini clip!
What, no Corey Feldman?
you know that mtv aired Captain EO full movie only once in 2d
80s was AWESOME….Fun Times…Corny…..but the best of an ERA…DISNEYLAND TODAY JUST CANT PUSH THE ENVELOPE IN TODAYS TIME
You mean WokeyLand
trillion dollar question, who thought Michael Jackson was gonna do a closing performance?
I heard Michael was there, but in disguise. Not sure if it’s true or not though.
Wow Justine Batemans kinda hot isn't she?...lol...hey call this stereotypically 80s but at least singers didn't hide behind autotune and lip syncing, and directors didn't hide behind cgi! Ha

THAT Belinda Carlisle performance at 15:34 😢
Everything sucks now.
John Stamos pre Full House
Jack Nicolas? 14:09 behind her..
Jack nicholson XD
Charles Bronson looked so pissed that he had to be there lol. He's probably embarrassed to be there.
The random black guy dancing in red pants cracks me tf up
I was only 19 then.
M.J. never turned up if i remember!
80s rule
First thought was Patrick Duffy eye lasers
27:10-27:17 Justine Bateman looks so uncomfortable. Especially after Patrick Duffy does that “yahoo” thing against her. That shit probably wouldn’t fly today
As kid i was afraid lol as a baby
All these celebrities are there, the cast, everyone except Michael, not cool Mike!
Oh god, Bruce Jenner is there
