Yeah I saw some behind the scenes footage (which is on youtube somewhere), where when they were showing the Iron Monger's suit, they referred to it as the "Crimson Dynamo armour" on more than one occasion.

Yep, originally they planned for Iron Monger to be the main villain in atleast 2-3 films with Crimson Dynamo being hired by Obidiah Stane to kill Tony and steal the Arc reactor. Thats also why the armour resembles the Crimson Dynamo in body with the head being that of the Iron Monger/Mark I suit style. There is even concept art detailing the Iron Monger design with a slightly altered head calling it the Crimson Dynamo - though it retains the circular chest piece.

@kidpool1: Tony has a time limit before the shard penetrates his heart, when the Mini-Arc reactivates it puts the shard back in place (basically retracting the sharp and eventually restarting the time limit). That Mini-Arc reactivates by recharging it's self, as long as Tony doesn't do anything he's good. The Mini-Arc is a self-sustaining power generated, allowing it to gather energy around it and recharge/sustain itself. Tony has since advance upon the original 3 times altering its capabilities

Actually... Iron Man is based off the comics and the plot was taken from the comics. The plan was originally for a different character 'Crimson Dynamo' however fan outcry called for War Monger which is why Iron Man did so well with fans as the first film was made because of the fans since it started its development hell in 1990.

Think he didn't actually think about taking Tony down with him until he realized he was stuck. Think at that point he knew he wasn't going to get out of the suit alive and was just like screw it.

I totally agree - he was extremely interesting as a villain because he's been Tony's mentor (pretty much second father) for so long. Have you noticed how submissive Tony's body language was around him when he didn't know he's an enemy yet? Subtleties like that make good acting and good writing.
He was a great villain in the comics, too. I kinda wish it lasted longer.

actually Stane was originally meant to appear in Iron Man 1 and 2, with him as Stark friend in the first one, and enemy in Iron Man 2, but that didnt happened, cause they needed a villian for Iron Man 1 after they removed the Mandarin from the first movie.

I wish they did include a sort of final "edge of death scene" like this. This was a really cool scene, but I can kinda see why it was taken out, it was kinda inappropriate and didn't really fit the tone. The scene came off as being a little playful. It would've been nice if they'd included a scene that was a TAD bit more serious in terms of screenplay. Stane didn't come off as a man on the verge of death in this scene.

They took this out because it didn't add anything new to the film and wasn't necessary. We already knew Obadiah was a scumbag and Tony had a good heart, so there wasn't any need to drag out Obadiah's death any longer. It's not like he had anything valuable to say before his death anyway.
