Hi guys,
French is my language and I saw the video with Ayesha crying and her people upset. I Hope the baby was not struck during the chaos.
I’m black, French born and live in Paris and the security measures were crazy during the Olympics. Yes we have our issues with the police. So, to give better context, what had happened was The President of France was about to pass through. So, police had blocked off the roads. Ayesha and Sonya had tried to cross to get to their car because their driver was waiting on them. They told them to wait 5 minutes max, but Sonya was the one trying to force her way to get to the car, causing police to stop them, which led to all the commotion. If the baby was hit in the process, it’s wrong. When I was living in the USA, and I recall that it was the same when the US president was in an area: you wait until his vehicles are cleared. I live 1 street away from the French presidency, so I’m used to that circus daily, having to show ID to get to my house when they block my street😊.
I love NBA and we are not mad the US basketball team won the game. Steph is a great player.

I think Ayesha was upset because when the officer stopped her from crossing the street, he hit the baby in the head. She says, "I don't think he realized I have a baby." You can hear the officers apologizing. The translator even said that he apologized. She was just upset the baby got hit in the head. She's a mother and just gave birth less than 3 months ago, so she's extra emotional.
The police could have simply told them the president was in the area could you hold on a minute while the motorcade was traveling through without putting hand anywhere near Ayesha.

If you’d watched the video, you’d know that “basically everyone speaks English,” doesn’t apply to the police as there because a French police officer was translating between the Currys and the other police, who clearly didn’t speak English.

If it is the police you better go along. I have seen several Americans get their heads bashed in foreign nations by police for things that would be minor infractions in the US. To this day I wonder how much brain damage these guys suffered.
Always have at least one security guard speak the language of the host country. Learn the customs and be respectful. Anytime a high-ranking government official is traveling by motorcade, all pedestrians must obey the rules. Don't make the job difficult for law enforcement. It seems that this incident is a communications issue. The Police could and should have handled the situation better.

As a civilian you have to be hyper aware in those spaces. They were walking with team USA security, the security should have been more aware of what was happening at that time too and keep them out of a confrontation.

Honestly, as a french man that wasn't there, I wanna say that the only thing that is almost sure is that the french police don't know who is Ayesha Curry.
If there was police violence, we have a dedicated service whose job is to invistigate on police brutallity.
Truth is France is under threat of terrorism from both Russia and Integrist Islamist groups.
The french special services and police prevented a lot of terrorists acts in the last few weeks.
That means that police has a "tolerance zeo" policy regarding the security measures around the Olympics and especially when the President is around.
That's not an excuse if there was police violence towards the Curry family, or anyone, but an element of context that can explain an overeaction by french police.
I mean, if they saw people trying to pass through a streets that
wass closed for the security of the President, they had to stop them from doing so.
Maybe the language barrier was a factor that led to misunderstanding. Maybe the Curry familly thought that being famous would give them a special treatment, but in this terrorism context, even a famous French Athlete, like Killian Mbappe, would have been stopped from crossing this street.
