Take your belay game to the next level. Petzl NEOX is an assisted blocking belay device for the gym and the crag. Ideal for lead climbing, it has an integrated wheel that allows you to smoothly and quickly pay out slack to the climber ➡ thestruggleclimbingshow.com/petzlneoxYT

Marc Andre LeClerc was definitely ready to step into those shoes. You could argue some of the mixed solos he did by 25 were far sketchier and more technical... that being said maybe what makes Alex such a legend is pushing the envelope "safely" for his whole career

Marc was way more gnarly. Alex even said so in The Alpinist.

Yeah, but Marc didnt die soloing either.

I think tragically the person that may have taken up that place was Marc Andre Leclerc

He was killed in an avalanche during a standard "safe" ascent btw, not crazy free soloing

6:12 Cedar is talking about Astroman but every video clip shows the Rostrum

got a little confused for a sec when talking about Astroman but showing clips of the Rostrum. Doesnt matter, though. Not a lot of clips of anyone soloing Astroman. Appreciate the channel! i just found it and signed up. Cedar - is there more of a climbing icon? He’s an awesome person.

Good catch. Yes, I think it was just a lack of available footage that my editor could find for this. And yes, Cedar is a national treasure! Hope you enjoy the full interview with him. Amazing stories and stoke.

Um, free soloing means that if you slip, you fall to your death, no? Because that might be why it’s not popular? Or do I misunderstand what free soloing means

People solo all the time, but they don’t usually spray about it. Because the consequence is death, it’s not really cool to do it as stunt for attention. It’s a great way to master your mind on easy terrain. Just don’t tell your wife
