2021 Mahindra XUV700 vs Volkswagen Taigun 1.5 TSI : Which 5-seater SUV should you get? | evo India

- Опубликовано: 20 дек 2021
- The Mahindra XUV700 may have burst on to the 7-seater SUV scene, but you can also get it in lower variants with a 5-seater option. That puts it straight in the crosshairs of the recently launched Volkswagen Taigun 1.5 TSI. Should you be picking the Taigun, which has proved itself to be the benchmark for ride and handling, or should you go for a mid-spec XUV 700 and skimp on some equipment while revelling in the presence and the mechanical package of the Mahindra? We answer these questions in this latest comparison video.

Between the XUV700 and the Taigun, which would you rather have?
Taigun anyday 🔥🔥
German car 🙌🙌
Xuv 700 Anyday !
Taigun any day shirish ji
Xuv700 anyday anytime no comparison
@@SyedMYahya That is never a german car at all, it is heavily localised, has 50% bad build quality
On the first thought this kind of comparison seems odd, but remember in India we compare primarily by prices. So a buyer may actually choose between a sedan, a hot hatch, an offroader and a family muv all within the same price point.
Personally I would go for VW, mostly because it can also give me a decent mileage and also and exhilarating experience while driving. Xuv 700 is a really able car but for people who are mostly using it on highways.
Ours is xuv 700 in city it is giving 14 and in highway -18-19

@@TheJohn222222Exactly. VW's driving comfort is better than XUV700.
@@Sourav_Debnath VW has better driving dynamics . car is more responsive . but in comfort 700 is better and for 2nd row comfort 700 is far superior .
Taigun just 2 months waiting . Xuv700 has 2 years waiting. That's the major difference too .
The XUV's waiting period woes are only because it is such a good SUV!
Video quality, Mic audio quality, the visual cues, everything's absolutely top notch! Keep it up Evo India! Also, i have a suggestion. If possible please try to also add the captions to every video or at least enable the auto generated captions. That is the the only one thing missing. All else really great! ❤️
For me personally it would be the Volkswagen Taigun 1.5TSi DSG. No doubt the XUV is a very sorted product and Mahindra’s best shot yet but man that TSi+DSG combo is too hard to let go off, Taigun has also more city friendly dimensions and personally I prefer its looks. One thing for sure, things couldn’t become better for the mid-size SUV buyer and he has a lot of choice now to choose from the cars which suits him the most. I just hope Honda brings something interesting to the table now along with the Toyota’s rumoured SUV, it’s been quite a long time since anything spectacular has been done by the Japanese.

Agreed 100%
Well said!
I resonate with your last line. The Japanese haven't done anything exciting in the last decade or so. It would be great if the Grand Vitara and CRV makes a comeback, the Civic Turbo with a Manual. The Kizashi too was a great product.
I was struggling to decide which car to buy and you have explained it very well and waiting for XUV for such a long time is of no use, so would definitely opt for Volkswagen Taigun. I currently have VW Polo and decided to go for Taigun now

You really need to get over spec sheet to know more about cars.
@@divyeshpatel1539 Did I say anything wrong? feel free to correct it instead of making snide remarks.
@RamaKrishnaGrandhi I believe the point being made was that having a 200 hp engine does not translate to bette performance. Reason why not all mercs, bmws or luxury cars do not have a big number and will still do the 0-100 dash in under 8 seconds compared to the xuv700s 9.5 . Engine bhp figures do not matter (relatively speaking) if the gearbox paired to it is tuned slower or the heft of the vehicle is more. Actual real world acceleration and speed depends a lot more on gearbox tuning, engine power delivery tuning, tyres, weight and so on.
Not that the xuv700 is a bad car by any means, its an amazing car for the money. But the 200hp figure on the spreadsheet doesn't mean its going to beat (say an entry level bmw x1) on a track or in a straight line. Of course if you keep aside the fact that its almost twice the price.
@@devmadhavsd5529 I didnt say 200hp engine is going to give better 0-100 performance as that number is useless in real world or indian conditions. I gave 200hp for understanding purpose and how mahindra is offering that even for entry level mx model. For the matter of fact, X1 doesnt have ADAS yet.

Great thought video, we should also see taigun diesel vs 1.5ltr sonet diesel gt variant. Will be most exiting ad we hvnt seen them on any channel .
Great video. Loved the comparison. I’m coming from a Ford ecosport petrol manual. Looking to upgrade to an automatic. Took test drive of Kushaq 1.5 today and was amazed by its performance and refinement. Heart says Kushaq, but mind says XUV 700 AX5 diesel auto, due to better space, street cred. What’s your recommendation? While it’s true that I hate to let go of the Ecosport…. 🙂
Video looks crisp on tv now that it's 4k. Next upgrade could be microphone. There's some minor static. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
I would choose the Taigun, for my family size, mileage and usable power 😉
Great Job! evo India team, appreciate it. So, the bottom line is can we still go with Taigun when we have a choice between XUV700 and Taigun TSI (DSG)??
good video but I do feel you guys should have compared Taigun to the AX5 variant by showcasing the proper AX5 variant. I know that you have tried to but a media car might not be available.
I said because AX5 misses out on a lot of basic necessities which Taigun provides (especially cruise control, reverse parking camera, auto climate control, auto wipers, and headlamps, etc) but is a much bigger car. Would have made it an interesting review where one has to choose between a fully packed premium-feeling small car or a larger car with fewer features and luxury
Also the AX5 does not have electrically closing side view mirrors.
AX5 only 4 airbags
Very sad
Dil tod diya Mahindra ne
Most prople ok with spend 21 lakhs otr delhi would not mind spending 23 lakhs to get a better car which in future will definitely be cheaper to run an resell.
Just my 2 cents
Loved the comparison that atleast Taigun matches the xuv inane aspects and also for the 100km drag race
excellent review. This was the one comparison I was waiting for. This kind of explains the various aspects which differentiates both the cars. QQ when u compare Khusaq and Taigun both DSG which is a better pick and why?
Both of them are identical to each other, save for the styling and the badge on the hood. Check out our detailed comparo here - ruclips.net/video/igXWiuU_zR8/видео.html
good review, in this video 18:52 minutes the Taigun Rear LH tire puncture noticed.
Changing Tyres from H to V significantly improves the ride handling comfort braking and fuel efficiency. Ensuring fully synthetic oil while serving enhances the feel good factor in terms of engine noise refinement and also better mileage. Well for this comparo I will pick the XUV for the solid hardware it has. Little body roll will manage.
How about change it to flat-free tire?? Do you have any suggestions?
@@godblessus4931 noooo avoid the run flat tyres, also they cost like 30k per piece

I own a Polo ..love Taigun in looks ..but XUV 700 is definitely a segment up and better in almost everything ..more so when VW has compromised on quality
The XUV700 is indeed very impressive
@@evoIndia yes ..for an Indian brand to make and offer such a competent product which can give a run for their money to something as great a car maker as VW is commendable ...
They purchased rights of the Car designing company Pininfarina. The same company which used to design interior and exterior for ferari and ford and Porsche. All those elements are coming to the XUV. All thanks to thar international acquisition.

What is the chance that mahi dra will introduce drive modes & paddle shifters in its petrol variant
Very good review. Subscribed your channel 👍 I like both of these machines and looking for exact comparison. While my heart goes to Taigun, as I am looking for 2nd car, I voted for XUV700. The Dealer asked me to take delivery last week (AX7 petrol black) but I asked for reschedule to Jan due to depreciation risk associated with Dec month delivery. However I pretty much daily watch a video on these two cars 😁 reason exactly same as what you mentioned in the conclusion 😉 and below points go on my thinking,
Pros of Vw:
1) German Engineering and trust (in hyd a VW polo fell off from a flyover and both the car and driver are safe)
2) Easy citi maneuver
3) Dream to own a German car
Cons of Vw:
1) The mental quality is not good esp the front bonnet side panels
2) Low seating
3) Service and repair costs
Pros of XUV700
1) Majestic and road presence and drive abilities
2) Features at the price point
3) Most celebrated SUV of 2021
Cons of XUV:
1) Too many electronics and any glitch will make us go crazy and expensive and time consuming to fix
2) Cost of ownership of an XUV700 AX7-P coming to Rs. 46,000-Rs.50,000 per month( 10 year ownership, 1000km drive per month)
Pls do share your thoughts.

I am a fan.. really. I enjoy watching Sirish.. he really makes it a very energetic watch! I feel confused though, I like both options of the XUV700 and the Taigun..
Get both we'd say 😅 But in all seriousness, these two SUVs are closer matched than one would realise, and you can't honestly go wrong with picking one over the other
Can somebody tell me exactly by how much the fuel efficiency increases with active cylinder technology turned on in kushaq or taigun??
I have GT plus (1.5) it returns mileage of about 8-10 when driven peacefully 30% highway rest city, ACT really comes into play with highway touring as speed is maintained, doesn’t make a huge difference in city driving
What’s the use of sun roof in Indian weather??
Great review
Thank you
Unique comparison though 💭 full.
✌️
Just a small correction. The GT plus variant of Taigun comes with rain sensing wipers too.
@Next Big Thing yes wipers will cut that point from where the susu will come
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Even the topline variant
This is crap..I have Vento Highline manual for 5+ years which has rain sensing wipers. The Taigun is just a downgrade for VW standards in terms of quality, shitty plastics inside and weird of all the 1.5
GT Manual doesn’t even come with cruise control. I mean who would buy a 1.5 without cruise
In a like for like comparison pricewise, between GT+ and AX5 you get quite a bit more kit on Taigun with more airbags, paddle shifters, climate control, keyless entry and push button start, TPMS, auto IRVM, rear camera, cruise control, telescopic steering, cooled glovebox, rain sensing wipers, ambient lighting, auto headlamps, wireless charger, better warranty; while XUV gets rear disc brakes, a panoramic sunroof and more space. If you jump to AX7 by putting in additional 2.5 lakhs you get 18" wheels, ADAS, powered driver seat, and leatherette upholstery; but you are still missing on wireless charger, telescopic steering, paddle shifters, keyless entry, auto irvm, ambient lighting and cooled glovebox. Taigun is offering more useful features overall besides the performance, as rationally how many times one will use the sunroofs in our weather or how many times in a single driver vehicle we need to adjust driving position that electric adjustments with memory function will be put to use. The things that work in favor of XUV700 are space and ADAS, but Taigun will be the easier wholesome package to live with on a daily basis.
Well stated
Great review! I was looking for something like this earlier as i was planning on buying the Taigun GT DSG but was tempted by the XUV AX5.
Couple of things to note though, the AX5 variant doesn't compare to the Taigun GT or Topline variant in my mind. The XUV AX5 lacks parking sensors, rear camera, automatic AC, wireless charging etc.
As i couldn't increase my budget for the AX7 models I went with the Taigun and am really happy with my purchase as the XUV's dimensions would have been a little big for me for city driving as it is.
I gotto agree on the same thing, we were looking at a suv at 22 lakhs and we checked out the xuv700 ax5 and well mahindra is pushing people to buy the ax7 even though some wouldn't want to spend that much or want the 7 seats and looking at ax5 it barely had any features for 22 lakhs so we went with the taigun gt dsg and well we were even lucky to get one delivered in less than a week so really happy with the purchase and if anyone is looking to buy a suv at 22 lakhs I would definitely recommend taigun and do avoid looking at the ax5 xuv cause of many reasons, 1 being the waiting which is more than a year and second the ax5 isn't value for money it's just trying to push you to buy the ax7.
@@gautamparmar3786 I experienced the same when I went to enquire about the AX5, the Mahindra sales rep didn't even want to answer my questions about the variant and was pushing for the AX7. It all seems to be done for marketing. The AX7 variant in itself is a really good value for money package but not everyone can afford it whereas the other variants' feature list seem to be put together just to put it at a headline worthy price. I mean how can the AX5 which costs 20+ Lacs doesn't even come with automatic AC or cruise control. All you get is ADAS in the high priced models.

@@akrishtrai4687 initially the door rattled at slow speeds while going over minor road imperfections but after the car's first service they replaced the door seals and the problem hasn't returned till date.

Taigun would me more comfortable to drive in, in the city and an occasional trips outside. Its more of an pseudo Suv. If you are looking for something that can do cross country, without breaking a sweat (i mean the occupants), then the Xuv would be a better choice, just because its gotta bigger engine better suspension, more spacious for all that luggage. Even though I am a bit skeptical about the Xuv electronics and how the panels being put together for a rattle free ride, I still would go with the Xuv, considering the Fuel pump issue going on with the Taigun and Kuskaq, even though they say they've fixed it. I better reach my destination with a rattling car than a dead one.
It has been fixed and was only seen in Kushaqs.
