This is my story too! I have hoarded furniture my whole life. Spent most of my life buying it, loading it, unloading it, cleaning it, moving it over and over again. I finally embraced minimalism after losing most of my belongings in a flood. I grieved for a year over all that lost furniture. Now, the more I get rid of the better I feel. Thank you for sharing your story, it really resonated with me.
I think that we all start off buying things that we don’t need when we get a home, apartment etc… I have changed my style so many times and now I have the things that I love ❤️ I am a minimalish person now, but I have only things that bring me joy and happiness. ❤️🥰🌻✨🐝
With such a large house, I hate vacuuming and dusting. I let go of so much furniture and now have less to clean. Decor as well, especially little decor pieces.
This is who I used to be! Constantly changing all the furniture and decor, moving pieces around, making holes in the walls, never feeling at peace in my home. Driving my husband crazy 😅 can’t even remember how many couches and tables we have changed in 15 years, usually cheap stuff but still. It took me years of minimalism to get to where we are today, a comfortable high quality couch, and dining table, comfortable beds and a few decor pieces. Some chairs and a coffee table that’s all we have. Even though we now live in a smaller house and have four children our house feels calm and peaceful. Makes me a happier mom and wife to ❤ Love your channel!
I think furniture is definitely a learning process, we think that that bed, sofa or chair will be great, but they don't always serve the function that we hoped they would, aren't comfortable or just aren't practical as they're just too big or heavy. I'm all about ease these days and I don't want to struggle to clean/move furniture if I don't have to, so I think minimal and functional is definitely the way to go ❤️
I can relate to this so much. I spent eighteen years in my previous home constantly redoing it, changing style, redoing rooms completely and wasting money usually on cheap cheap/thrifted/craiglist furniture. When we moved I saved for years, was a practicing cozy minimalist for years, knew my personal style and spent money on pieces I wouldn't want to swap out. I know moving helped me be happier but now, two years later, all the furniture is the same. I find that when you are constantly buying and swapping I'd have a real discussion with yourself (proverbial you) what is really making you unhappy.
Hi Becky! Congrats on reaching 20,000 subscribers😊 Thank you for your continued motivation. I’m totally onboard with having less furniture and just things in general. Everyone has their own style, but for me, I feel most at peace when spaces are uncluttered and neutral and natural colors. On a different note, I hope Jordan’s arm is recovering well. We just got home from my son’s college orientation. They have a separate parent orientation that runs simultaneously. His university is about 4 hours away so he’ll obviously be living up there. I have lots of mixed feelings going on right now which is also leading me to declutter. It’s helping to calm my mind❤❤❤ Enjoy the rest of the weekend😊
I swear - we are so similar (1:38-1:50)! LOL Thank you for this video! I am slowly changing my habits since I decluttered. These are GREAT QUESTIONS! If it brings me the least little bit of stress, it is not for me.
We used to have two separate historic houses. We had a lot of stuff, including furniture. When we moved, we got rid of a lot of furniture. A few things, like our 1910 upright piano, made us sad to let go of. Our living area is very small in this condo, so it still looks like we have lot of furniture. But, our garage is finally organized! :) The dancing clip was so precious! :)
❤❤❤ Gratulation to 20000 viewers! ❤❤❤ I wish I would have more free time for decluttering. You Always have so many good advices, but I have so little time. But slowly but surely there is a progress! ❤❤❤
Great piece of advice!!! ...take out one or two or..piece(s) of furniture and live without it (them) for a few weeks! Same thing for...dishes in upper cupboards! Really! (I finally had removed ALL my upper cabinets...ahhh...freedom of...little stools to get there! tee-hee) Same thing for...clothes in a dresser! (finally, space in the room...less dusting, cleaning) and enough storage in the closet! woohoo! Finally...we do NOT need so many...so much (and less to worry about and to maintain! woohoo!) You are so right! Thank you so much.... helene :) (A " Simple Life " person ;)
❤ I don't like bulky furniture so i don't have much bulky furniture left. Big burden. I have folding tables and a couple of very light chairs. No overstuffed furniture here. Space is reall important to me. I cannot move it out myself so i recently donated the bulky furniture. Few pieces left until i decide how to organize without it. Empty but with cluttered surfaces.
Great points! Thank you, I'm in the middle of decluttering. It is overwhelming, I am stunned by how much 'stuff' we have. Tiffany Phlanx's Marketing Specialist
Ur a beautiful young woman don’t be so hard on yourself. The place looks great.love the stuff ur husband built for bedroom and the shelves with hooks.u will be more comfortable in ur own skin with age.u have adorable daughter cute dogs and I am guessing loving husband with all the changes u show u made. I left abusive marriage of decades should have left sooner.started with minimalism at house then left with not a lot into a 357 square foot studio apartment. I left quickly so I didn’t take much with me. I have a minimalist kitchen and wardrobe and bathroom and I love it. I was lucky starting from scratch with $ I saved. I have 2nd hand & thrift store furniture. I have 2 recliners and bed & dresser and tv mounted on wall a couple lamps and some end tables.it’s plenty. I do have pictures on walls I did bring them from my house. I couldn’t look at blank walls.Maybe bc I do artwork. I have what I need. I’m grateful & content. I have been on my own now 3 years. I’m 62 and I have a cat.no car and no debt.just regular monthly bills.no cable.just Netflix. I know having pet not frugal. They bring a lot of love and makes it feel homey. I get laughter from crazy cat.So it brings me joy.Things don’t matter as much as experiencing family and friends love ones. I have a better relationship with my daughter too. I hope u find peace in ur journey.
Thanks it’s been a journey and I’m very grateful for all I’ve learned so far ❤️❤️ our dogs are very much apart of our family too and they bring so much joy to our lives! 😍 thanks for sharing your thoughts
Another thing is when you get a very cheap furniture they don't last so then you have to replace it very often. Like my oldest son I got him a dresser ( I got it for free) and it was cheaply made and now it is so wobbly that I am just wondering when it is going to just collapse but I am debating whether to try and fix it or just find another one. The bad thing is I hate dealing with people when buying anything used or selling anything because people are either always saying they are interested in and never show or they never show up on time or always change the time they can come. Then when I try and buy something from someone they are never available when I am, they wait till after I go and get something else to get back in touch with me, or they never respond back to me. Going to thrift stores now is so expensive anymore and if you do find something for a decent price then there is something really wrong with it making it not worth the price.
I'm curious- how has your love of traveling motivated your decluttering journey? Would you still have decluttered as much if you wouldn't travel. Thanks for all you share!
I think traveling opened my eyes to the fact I was so much happier when we were traveling but not just for seeing beautiful places but because I only had just what I needed and it made my life so simple and showed me things are helpful but they could never take the place of experiences with my loved ones ❤️❤️
I've never understood why people want to buy new and change furniture around all the time. I've never had the money to do that, nor are my rooms big enough to rearrange furniture. Plus pieces of furniture are high value items intended to last many years. All my furniture has to be attractive and functional. So my bed has additional storage, the side table has a drawer etc etc. The way to change the look of a room is with decor, soft furnishings and possessions arranged in an attractive way. And although wooden snd tiled floors look nice and are practical I hate, hate, hate them. They make rooms echoey and noisy. And uncarpeted stairs are complete anathema to me.
I used to move my furniture around because I would get bored 🥱. When I rearranged it was a cheap way of getting something new. Now, where I am in my life, I have the furniture I need. No more no less. I have embraced minimalism to a certain degree which has helped my keep my sanity 😊. My treasures are in a curio cabinet that I bought many years ago. ❤❤ Should be easy for my kids when my husband and I are gone ❤

This. Sticking with useful "legacy" pieces (besides mattresses and a couch) saves you in the long run.

So so true ! This will give you your life back ! Excellent video .

🤏 I'm this close to replacing our bedside tables with a floating version because they are holding me back from cleaning the floor on a regular basis.
Do it! I just did it last weekend and copied Bec’s shelves ❤️👍
I love them! Honestly it’s those little changes in decor that make the biggest difference for me! ❤️❤️
I have no bedside table as my dresser is close to my bed, so glass of water and my phone etc. go there at night.
@@barborathinova4663 We don't have any dressers so bedside tables work well for us.

Hey! It’s the nurse that you met last week! I enjoy your content. Guilty of hoarding furniture. My garage………😮
Oo wow!! Hey! Thank you so much for taking such great care of Jordan! He is on the mend 😍
I got rid of a couple of large pieces of furniture. My neighbor saw through a window and thought we were robbed. 😂❤

I really love your staffordshire dogs 🥰 I’m happy those stay on your keep list lol. Is there a sentimental reason you like them? I’m curious.
My grandma just gave them to me after she’s had them for years and I love them ❤️❤️ 😍
