Okay, so I found the word "Breeze Pro" on the plastic lid, and I searched it...Turns out that it's a v@pe lid or something. One of the flooring guys was a v@per, so the mystery is solved! Can't believe I kept it sitting around for 4 months. 🫠

as a young senior with disabling health issues my later years won’t be stress free - 2024 was to have been the year for reorganizing my studio apt ahead of getting a walker - a word to the wise - don’t start a big job without thinking thru how it will end - I needed to raise everything from all the bottom shelves up as well as lowering everything from the top shelves down - yah oops - got these things “moved up / down” before going thru everything else in the middle shelves - so - hadn’t actually provided myself with the space for storing what I was keeping - my health tanked so for most of 2024 the living room space of my 350’sq studio apt has acted as a storage locker - for some jobs strategy is as important a part as is the removal of what you’re actually letting go of - if you’re not a driver don’t forget to add finding one to your to do list - here’s to a productive year - with maybe a little well earned celebration when we’re done 🇨🇦🙏

Regarding Makeup and/or Toiletries - Also ask your friends and colleagues if they want to get rid of some things. Put all of the unwanted (have to be new or barely used) items in a box and send them to a women's homeless shelter. I have been doing this for years and it is amazing, how many brand new stuff finds its way to people who cannot afford buying them.

Decluttering for handicapped: I'm 75 with arthritis. I scoot around the house in a walker. I used a sturdy, rather small utility cart to declutter. I used cooling racks zip tied, on the back and sides of the cart, an overlay - no cutting - to keep items from falling off the cart. I place a box in the back I my SUV and make several trips to fill the box. I deliver to Pet Pals thrift store and they unload.
Previously, Items were taken off the top shelves and bottom shelves by family and placed at a level I could reach them to sort. P.S. I tended to leave the full cart a day or two then sorted. By then I was tired of seeing them and could make better choices to discard items. My family does NOT want my stuff. Any sentimental items I have given to them over time or during the declutter "adventure."

@Anita-y8n41...I wish my mom had done what you are doing. My dad got ill first. During his extended illness, we were consumed with caring for him. We could have decluttered some during that time when he was home bound, then bed bound, but it was hard to find the energy, or will, to do it.
After Dad died, my mom moved in with me. We went through her house to decide what she wanted to keep. I was very surprised at what she wanted to keep & what she was willing to let go. I realized that although Mom was a saver, I was more sentimental about items than she was (furniture, lamps, pictures, etc.). With household items, she kept saying, "Oh, that's just old stuff I don't need."
What Mom found hard to let go of were what I called silly, disposable items like plastic bags, extra coat hangers, and boxes because "We might need that some day."
If nothing else, you will appreciate not having so much stuff to manage, organize and clean after decluttering
When Mom was living with me she kept telling me how nice it was to have room to walk about without having clutter in her way. She didn't have the energy to clean or move stuff any more.

I recently moved from a home of almost 40 years. My focus for this new home is to unpack slowly, but purposefully. No rushing to eliminate the boxes - instead, everything has to be organized and that there is a place or a need for every item - plus, at the same time, inventorying everything so I can easily find it sometime down the road. My goal for 2025 is to complete this unpacking work before summer. By the time this is done, hopefully, the home will be to the point of perfect tidiness (I like tidiness and clutterfree not minimalism) so maintenance will be a breeze.

This past summer I started to declutter. The hardest part was getting rid of pictures, I spent alot of money on, on a past house. I moved, and having them on the wall just reminded me of what I had. I put them on the curb of my new place. It was all gone in literally 5 minutes. I took pictures before I did that. You know what I don't miss them.
I now live presently if that makes sense. It went to a new home for someone else. I am on a decluttering journey for this new year 2025. I will just put things out for others to have that can use them. The bigger items I will sell. But once you just let go, it is freeing. I found your channel, great tips.😊

Also it takes me awhile to tidy because I get tired very easily and need a rest every hour. I am almost finished and have decluttered quite alot and my place is looking much better 😄 Now I have a huge pile of stuff to be donated/given away. That is really one of the main reasons help me get rid of stuff. The feeling or knowledge that someone else use it and is happy about it. So it is much more than just get rid of. It spreads joy and it gives me some joy and peace vice versa.
And it shows more appreciation for the item as let it lying around somewhere else just to keep it, because it was a gift for example.

I love your comment about holiday cards. I'm sort of a sentimental human and I've found a strategy that works for me. I keep the ones from last year with my holiday stuff, so I find them when I'm hanging stockings or whatever.
I display them on a string on the wall during the season, but as new ones roll in, I toss the prior year one from that individual (unless I liked the old one better for some reason, a sweeter note, a photo of their family vs generic or whatever).
This means if someone passes that year, I still have one from them that either continues being display during holidays or goes in a memory bin.
This has allowed me to deal with my loved ones scarcity mindset- that I'll lose memories of them after they pass- while keeping the amount of cards in my home at a minimum. I always have the sweetest notes someone gave me and they have an appropriate home in our house, but not every single one inclusive of things that were more generic and cute.
Having a sort of one in- one out rule is very helpful. Most people think of that for clothes, but it works great for sentimental items like Christmas cards too.

My goal for 2025 is a combination of Swedish death cleaning and thoughtful decluttering. A friend passed recently, and watching her daughters go through cleaning out her place made me do some heavy thinking. How much of something so I really need? Am I making it harder to put things away because of all the stuff? It’s going well so far, but this is going to take a long time. But then, my home didn’t get cluttered overnight either.

We post our town/community calendar in the kitchen because we're visual folk - special garbage days/events and reminders for appointments and such. We tried to do this on our phones but... out of sight, out of mind. If it's lookin' right at you from the fridge, there's no hiding from it. It's the only calendar in the house tho. This year we kept the Christmas decorating simpler - and we were pleased with the calm result and special ornaments rather than "Everything All at Once", so it may be time to donate some very lovely but impersonal ornaments to someone in need. And also tackle the craft room...

A new season or new years is a great time to reinvigorate our decluttering efforts and also think about what we want going forward. At the beginning of my recent work break I did a full pantry/fridge/freezer(s) (yes we have 2) inventory and - sadly - had to throw away some mystery items from the freezer (I pride myself on not wasting food - I have a blog and everything! - so this was an effort to do). As annoyed as I was, it was a good reminder to a) clearly label everything before putting it into the freezer or leftovers section of the fridge, b) to meal prep and plan based on what we already have and c) to think about whether we WILL ACTUALLY USE something before putting it in the freezer for later.
On the upside, doing this clear out before going to the market meant I knew exactly what we had, what we needed to restock, and meant I could take advantage of some store specials to create delicious meals because I knew what would go with what.

Love your content. I want to know how to get motivated to organize and declutter a temporary space. I know that once we remodel our main home and move back in, I will have a place for everything because i designed it that way. Now, in our very small rental I find myself saying there's no point in decluttering now, and that it's "spinning my wheels". Yet I miss the sense of peace that organized living gives.

I'm 53 and I like a refresh/fresh start every year. It doesn't mean anything is a mess but it's a good way to say, "What are ways I could improve? What do I want to be doing? What do I want to stop doing?" If we don't evaluate where we are and where we want to go we are just aimlessly wandering around. We don't go on vacation without a plan or at minimum a rough outline for the trip, I sure don't want to live my life that way either. Sometimes we get distracted by shiny things and before we know it, 6 mos have passed without us focusing on the things or the PEOPLE that matter most.

It took over 2 years to get rid of my wool and silk fibres for wet felting. I started having children right after beginning this hobby, and it was too hard to find the time to do it. I would get a small thing done once a year but it became more frustrating than enjoyable. After the third child, I put it all away. After our youngest turned 2, I didn’t even sell it. I gave away $300 worth of fibres on Facebook giveaway site. I felt a hint of sadness followed by a rush of relief. DIY can pile up, and when life changes you need to let go. I started scanning them but still can not bring myself to get rid of the physical memories. My papers consist of tickets, journals, calendars, which I use and keep the one where my notes describe the things we did throughout the year, papers, family history documents of all kinds, including my notes, and more. I have containers of them waiting for me to scan them. I have started scanning already and still have more to go. I have a huge drive to keep all the scans. But I need to figure out what went wrong when I accidentally uploaded all my photos to google drive instead to the hard drive. I'm decluttering a UFO next garbage week. A friend I had a falling out with last year made me a collage many years ago and I've never had a place for it. I have been constantly moving it around my room, and I already owned all the photos from it. I would have tossed it by now, but we only get garbage every two weeks.
You also just reminded me to declutter a watch I purchased recently. It's digital and I keep on changing the time by accident since it's a touch screen. I also spent about an hour decluttering all of the subscription emails that I don't use. It felt amazing!
I will admit that I bought my last piece of clutter for the year. I have been eyeing it for about 6 months and swore if it went on clearance, I would buy it. I've decluttered an insane amount and just discovered something I have that is similar no longer fits me, so a one in one out thing went on.

I tried to stick to consumables that would be fully used as opposed to objects that would clutter up. If i did get objects I stuck with bespoke, local made things that support small businesses and creative people. Its hard not to buy for pleasure when your brain has become accustomed to it but i plan on being more mindful in the future and im always working to get rid of stuff. Everytime I declutter something, my mom always manages to buy and add more clutter and won't let any shelves/drawers empty. She always stuffed things into places I've decluttered. Before that realization I kept the same things coming back in over and over and never actually used them / used them up. Not quite there yet in full, but I'm getting better at it. Decluttering food is a massive help when it comes to figuring out what I REALLY use, as I mostly just have things I use and not also all the things I won't anyways. Bad choices stick out so much more this way, when they're rare and not a large part of what's there already.

Great video, thanks so much for all the work you put in your videos, although I am not minimalistic or even close ..😂.. they inspire me to improve and simplify. 2025 goal? Keep downsizing, we are retired and empty nesters so it is about time to lighten the load
Happy new year to you and your family 🎉❤

Heads up- I have those same drawer pulls. I’ve lost a lot of good clothing to those. Haha. My shirts and pants pockets get stuck on them all of the time when I’m moving around and cooking. 🤦‍♀️ I have bruises from them. I picked them out, as I had cabinets/drawers w/o any pulls.

Yup. They'll catch in the pockets of your clothes as you move along the counter.

I cringe every time I see those draw pulls 😂.

I am now an empty-nester, but the house is still full of my children’s things, I want the house work for me.
