      Hello! I found your video while doing my research on form i-765. Can you help me? Well, I came to the US on a F-1 visa (which is still valid on my i-94 status) and filed for asylum. On form i-765 current immigration status, should I put 999-alien awaiting the decision of asylum or something else? Thanks

    • @asylumadvocacy
      @asylumadvocacy  4 месяца назад +1

      Thank you for your question and for being part of ASAP’s community! If you are still in valid F-1 status, you can choose that on the drop-down menu for that question. However, if you already completed your application and chose "999 - Alien awaiting the decision of asylum" that is also acceptable, because it is also accurate, so do not worry about needing to change it if you already provided that answer.

      We will let @suldaanmoha reply, but we can provide some general information. By law USCIS should decide initial work permit applications for asylum seekers within 30 days. However, some ASAP members report that USCIS is taking more than 30 days in some cases. Also, the time estimates for final decision on USCIS accounts have not proven to be exact. Hopefully your application will be approved sooner. Hello! Thank you for this information!
    My husband and I applied for a Renewal EAD card in December 2022, we received the letter that they accepted our documents, but not the actual cards yet, it's been more than a year since we did it. My question is: We have to apply for renewal EAD card again soon, so what documents should I attach with I-765 form? My expired EAD card and the letter of the "approval for renewal" they sent us?

      Thank you for your question and for being part of ASAP’s community! You should receive your new work permit cards within a few weeks of receiving the approval notice. You can check the USCIS online case status tool here: egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do. You can also call USCIS at 800-375-5283 if you have more questions. If your work permit is based on an asylum application (category C8), your new work permit should be valid for 5 years and you do not have to apply to renew until closer to the date of expiration. - If you submitted an asylum application and you do not also have another immigration status, you can choose “999 - Alien Awaiting Decision of Asylum.”
      - I believe that your question is about the photo. Yes, if you are applying using a mobile phone, you may be able to take a "selfie" photo with your phone against a plain white background. Sometimes it takes several tries to get the system to accept that your photo meets requirements.

This is a problem that many asylum seekers are currently experiencing. You can try to contact your local asylum office for an update on your case. Thank you for your question and for being part of ASAP’s community! If you lost your immigration documents, you can ask the government to send you a copy of them, through a process called a “FOIA request.” You can submit a FOIA request to USCIS here: www.uscis.gov/records/request-records-through-the-freedom-of-information-act-or-privacy-act. Please note that this process may take a long time. You can find more information about A numbers here: help.asylumadvocacy.org/faqs-general-orientation/#a-number.

    I'm a little confused. Please tell me if my permit expires on January 1, 2025 and I apply for renewal with a payment of $470. Will my permit be extended for only 540 days? Previously, permission was issued for 730 days, that is, two years.

    • @asylumadvocacy
      @asylumadvocacy  3 месяца назад

      Thank you for your question and for being part of ASAP’s community! If you are an asylum seeker, the 540-day extension is to extend your expiring work permit while the government is processing the renewal application. If the government approves your renewal, you should receive a new work permit that is valid for 5 years. You can find more information about the work permit extension here: help.asylumadvocacy.org/work-permits/#work-after-expiration. If you have more questions, you are welcome to email us at .

      Thank you for your question and for being part of the ASAP community! The answer to your question requires a more detailed response than we can post on RUclips, because it may depend on whether you are applying for adjustment of status as someone who won asylum, someone who is adjusting status through a petition by a family member, or through an employer. But you are welcome to email us at and you can include images of documents (such as your current EAD card) if helpful, through that private form of communication.

      Thank you for your question and for being part of ASAP’s community! I am so sorry that your work permit was denied. Yes, asylum seekers can apply for a work permit 150 days (about 5 months) after submitting their asylum applications. You can check if 150 days have passed by following the steps at this link: help.asylumadvocacy.org/work-permits/#apply-when.
      If you have 150 days on your clock, you can submit another application for your work permit. Since you are requesting your FIRST work permit, you DO NOT need to pay a fee. For detailed instructions on how to apply for a work permit, please see these work permit instructions: help.asylumadvocacy.org/work-permits/#apply-how-to.

On my USCIS account it was saying 2 weeks to get a response, after this time they did update another 2 weeks, after this time again, they updated (yesterday) to 4 months. I can’t believe. It should just take 30 days but now it’s over 51 days. What can I do?

    • @asylumadvocacy
      @asylumadvocacy  3 месяца назад

      Thank you for your question and for being part of ASAP’s community! The first time that you apply for a work permit as an asylum seeker -- category (c)(8) -- it is free. But then later when your work permit is about to expire and you file to RENEW the work permit, then there is a fee. That fee was $410 until April 1, 2024, when it increased.
      In other categories you must pay a fee even for your first work permit. But for asylum seekers the first work permit is free.

    Hello, I accidentally chose B2 for current immigration status while I have a pending asylum will that affect my process

    • @asylumadvocacy
      @asylumadvocacy  3 месяца назад +2

      Thank you for your question and for being part of ASAP’s community! That is unlikely to affect your process. However, it would be a good idea to communicate to USCIS to correct the error, so that you cannot be accused in the future of putting incorrect information on an immigration form. If you applied for your work permit online, you can log in to your USCIS account, find your Form I-765, and go to the "Add Unsolicited Evidence" tab. There, you can upload a simple written statement saying that you entered B2 as your current immigration status, and that you are writing to correct it to a different answer. For example, if you do not have another immigration status, you can choose “999 - Alien Awaiting Decision of Asylum.”

    Should I apply for SSN card again during my initial work permit application in my asylum case if I already have SSN (its written valid for work only with DHS authorization) that was given through J1 visa when i came to US? @asylumadvocacy

    • @asylumadvocacy
      @asylumadvocacy  2 месяца назад +1

      Thank you for your question and for being part of ASAP’s community! Because you already have a Social Security card, it is not necessary to apply for a new Social Security card again with your asylum-based work permit application. That is because your social security number will never change -- that will be your number for life. Also, the social security card you would get with an asylum application would have the same notation ("valid for work only with DHS authorization") in addition to having the same number. The only time to ask for a new card would be if you lost your current one. In any case, list your Social Security number from your current card where it asks for that information on this work permit application.
