Good news! If you are an asylum seeker, starting April 8, 2024, USCIS will again extend your work permit for 540 days past the expiration date written on your work permit card, if you apply to renew before your current card expires. Learn more here: help.asylumadvocacy.org/work-....

Hello Thank you for making this video, my question is my employer wants me to bring the 540 day extension receipt although I showed them the website. What should I do?
Thank you for your question and for being part of ASAP’s community! You can bring them the receipt notice showing that you have applied to renew your work permit. You can see an example of what this notice looks like if you applied by mail here (help.asylumadvocacy.org/work-permit-receipt-notice/) and if you applied online here (help.asylumadvocacy.org/work-permit-receipt-notice-online/). If you applied online and do not have a paper notice, you can print it from your USCIS online account. In order to verify that you qualify for the automatic extension, employers are supposed to request that you show them the actual receipt notice.

is it okay to edit the receipt notice and append the 180 to 540 myself?

Instead, we recommend directing any employer or DMV to the USCIS website listed on the receipt notice, www.uscis.gov/eadautoextend. It explains why even a receipt notice showing a 180-day extension now grants a 540-day extension.
