  • How-To Connect and Seal 2 Shipping Containers Joined Together to form a House. In this video we are going to show you 3 Simple Steps on How-To Connect and Seal 2 Shipping Containers joined Together to form a House by highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of each method. Stay tuned as we explain the step by step process. Placing shipping containers in parallel side by side is pretty common when building with shipping containers. Once the two containers are correctly positioned and placed on their foundation, the next step is to join and seal the containers together. To the contrary, the joinery process is not as straight forward as it may sound, The protruding corner posts on shipping containers prevents a perfect seal when two containers are places side by side. If you intend to execute this task as a DIY project, you will be required to have tools and materials that are essential to get the job done. We have sampled-out a complete list highly rated and well-priced products and equipment that can be purchased online in the description below. Would you join the two containers BEFORE cutting out the corrugated sides if you wanted one large interior space, or would you need to do that first, prior to joining?

    • @sheltermode
      @sheltermode  7 месяцев назад +1

      Either. If modification is insitu, the containers are joined first and made water tight before modification. If fabrication is done offsite, joining is done once delivered onsite.

      Thank you for the response! That’s what I figured.
      Do you have any thoughts on supporting the structure as removing the sides will surely undermine its integrity? I’ve seen people use custom welded girders, but thought maybe using jacks and then simply framing them in with a column would be easier? Thanks again!

    • @sheltermode

    Could you do a video about how to reinforce a container after cutting a wall out? I understand that you have to put more steel on the roof edge over the hole to prevent sagging. Thanks for making these videos, it's really not easy to find "good" information on making container homes and you are hitting all the right areas that people have questions about.

    If you weld steel plates on the top and sides of containers when they are side by side, is that enough support to then cut out the walls in between for a 16 ft space as opposed to an 8 ft?

    • @antiantipoda
      @antiantipoda 4 года назад

      No, whenever you cut the sides you need to reinforce it. Otherwise the container will shift from the loss of structure. As I understand, the side plates exert force to keep the container square. Before you remove anything, even cut out a window, you should sodder reinforcement bars. Keep in mind that the info I have comes from other videos. :)
