    I remember as a kid in the 70's I would wake up at night with my dad laughing loudly from the living room. One night I was curious as to what could be making my dad laugh. Now my pop didn't laugh very much, so I had to see. I crept out into the hallway and peeked around at the TV. There was Don Rickles on the Tonight Show throwing insults at Johnny, Ed, and Doc. Rest in Peace Don.

      roman14032 Frank was a big star but a tiny guy physically.

    • @mikehike596
      @mikehike596 6 лет назад +3

      I didn't take Roman14032's comment literally; I believe he was alluding to Sinatra as a powerful force one would have needed to think twice before offending. Yet if you want to get to _mano a mano,_ it seemed to me Sinatra could have held his own, particularly after his "skinny" period, toward the late 1950s-1960s.
      That is, he wasn't so "tiny," but - here is what a Google search said about his height: _"Around 68% of the adult male population are within 3 inches"_ of Frank, _"falling within the typical range for an adult male.”_ Frank was a bit taller than Rickles, and also James Cagney. Everything is relative.
      .

    • @TheRelger
      @TheRelger 5 лет назад

      Mike Hike, Frank was a big shot yes but never known for being a tough guy.
      He’d punch the odd guy but always had his body guard around.
      I love Frank, not putting him down at all.

    My favorite Rickles story involves Sinatra. Rickles was taking a beautiful woman to dinner, and Frank comes in. When the girl gets up to go to the powder room, Rickles goes over to Frank and asks: "Frank - I really like this girl, and I think I've got a chance with her. To cinch it, would you come over to the table and just say hi? She'll think I'm a big shot, and I'll be in." Frank says: "No - Don - I don't do that." Don says: "Please, pleease, Frank - it would mean a lot to me, and she'd really be impressed; just a few seconds." Frank shakes his head, and then grudgingly says OK. Later, Rickles and the girl get their meal, and Frank is ready to leave. He gets up, walks over to the table, and says: "Hi, Don, how are you doing?" Rickles looks up and says: "Please, Frank - can't you see we're eating?"
    Only Rickles could have gotten away with that with Frank Sinatra.

    You need my favorite joke of all time. Don tells the story of the night Frank Sinatra saved his life. Don was making his usual mafia jokes and the mafia guys that ran the joint didn't think it was funny. They took him out behind the theater and started beating the hell out of him. He really thought they they were going to beat him to death. He had almost had it when the door to the alleyway opened and Frank stepped out and saved his life when he said "OK, that's enough."
