I grew up in the 60's & 70"s watching Johnny Carson, and some of his shows were the one's with Don Rickles, Bob Hope, Dean Martin. But my favorite was Don Rickles because you never knew what he was going to say. His delivery was so fantastic. He was one of the few who could get me to laugh out loud. It sad that there will never be another one like him, because we have lost the ability to laugh at ourselves.

I'm a bit torn on this, because that was Don Rickles style definitely, but I'll bet a lot of blacks back then didn't appreciate a couple of those lines.
Not all but probably a significant amount.
Of course it was biting comedy from a white persons perspective because we can laugh at the absurdity of owning slaves not so long ago.
Imagine being a young or old black person though and hearing the jokes ,all of the accompanying laughter and trying to figure it out in your head.
Many think it's swung the other way right now with whites being the butt of jokes that they wouldn't dare to turn around on a minority, but hopefully things will even out eventually.
Which brings me to this point.
Why are so many white people upset at being poked fun at when they thought it was a hoot when Rickles did it back in the day?
Just some messy musings on this and not intended as anything else.
