If you want to watch a good film then I would recommend either "Pump up the Volume" with Christian Slater (1990) or "Chronicle" (2012). Both very good films.

"You do not know the national anthem ?" ... well to be fair, Leslie Nielsen was actually a Danish-Welsh Canadian and not from the USA. His father was an immigrant from Denmark who joined the Royal Canadian mounted police and his mother was from Wales.
His character was American. Derp.
Says who ? Did I not write that his Danish father was a Royal Canadian mounted police officer. If you did not notice, then one of the jokes is that he invite Priscilla Presley on a date at a place that serve great Viking food.

Police Squad was an early 80's series that lasted 6 episodes (Naked Gun the TV series). After cancelling it, Lt. Frank Drebin jumped from TV to the cinema, so this movie was made. They reused here some of the serie jokes. Saludos, un gran video.

The "grandfather from Spy Kids" is veteran actor Ricardo Montalbán from Mexico, he's been on a lot of shows, & yes he starred in the US TV series Fantasy Island. It ran from 1978 to 1984.
To be honest: I always think at "Kaaaahhhnnn!!!!" when I see Ricardo.

One of the best jokes isn't here, when Nordberg's trying to describe the shipment - "Heroin.... Heroin, Frank...." "That's a pretty tall order, you'll have to give me a few days on that one."
Mexican-American actor Ricardo Montalbán was famously in the movie "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" reprising his role as the supervillain Khan from the original 1960's Star Trek TV show. He was also in the U.S. TV show "Fantasy Island." (edit: you talked about that show already 😁) You should watch Star Trek II: The Director's Cut, Star Trek III, and Star Trek IV. These three films are part of one continuous storyline and are classic 80's sci-fi/adventure movies. The other Star Trek films are not as good as those three. IMHO.
That was one of the best star trek episodes and also the best star trek movie!

Naked Gun is a classic. I used to watch it with my parents as a kid... a LOT of jokes went over my head that I only get now!
And the assassin is baseball hall of fame’s Reggie Jackson.

I think the joke in the national anthem part is because even tho Frank is american in the movie, the actor Leslie Nielsen was actually Canadian, so I always thought this was like an internal joke
"Something Tells Me I'm into Something Good" is performed by Herman's Hermits, a British group popular in the 1960's. My parents loved that group.
I remember seeing this on tape, the good old days.
If you haven't reacted to any Monty Python yet I strongly recommend it. Holy Grail and Life of Brian are both must watch comedies.

"Weird Al" Yankovic performs spoofs of popular songs. His spoof of Beat It is called "Eat It" Yankovic was the star of the 1989 comedy UHF.

Based on the failed television series Police Squad!, The Naked Gun was a new proof of the talent of the Jerry Zucker/Jim Abrahams/David Zucker trio for the excessively absurd comedy. And Leslie Nielsen is just a genius. The final baseball match is funnier than all the "comedies" of today
Imagine how much she would’ve laughed if Frank Drebin was played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, instead. 😂

The Naked Gun was released in 1987. It picks up where the 1982 TV show Police Squad! left off. The plot is a spoof of Telefon(1977). The villain is played by the late Ricardo Montalban. Montalban played Khan Noonien Singh on the original Star Trek(1966-1969). The marching band that crushes Montalban is playing The Kingsmen's cover of 'Louie Louie". Jim Abrahms, Jerry Zucker and David Zucker worked on Kentucky Fried Movie and Airplane. They also worked on the dark comedy Ruthless People(1985).

Police Squad was a TV show that was cancelled for the stupid reason. It was too funny. That's literally why they cancelled it after less than a season. Watch it after you watch these 3 movies

What a cast, Priscilla Presley was married to the King of 'Rock'n Roll' Elvis Presley, (not really known as an actress), Nordberg was of course OJ Simpson, who was then famous as a star running back and successful personality/actor and now has become infamous *cough*, and Leslie Nielsen who indeed was a national treasure, Canadian that is. He was a serious actor, maybe too serious, but 'jumped' into this comedic role.

Another great comedy with Leslie Nielsen is Airplane. It is another farcical comedy, but in this same school of older gags... and a great watch.
