They played a small club in Kansas City shortly after NotWithStanding came out and Lie on Lie was making the rounds on the radio... It snowed like blizzard crazy that night and I was one of only 10 or so people who made it to the show. Despite the small crowd, they played their hearts out. Was like having a personal concert by a great band. By far one of the best shows I have seen and one of the greatest concert memories I have. Thanks guys, you are awesome!
Nothwithstanding is one of my top ten favorite CD's of all time. I played the hell out of this in my car on my Pioneer sound system. Those were the good ol' days!
I agree, I bet this song get's into the top 25-50 if it was re-released now in 2014. The music out there now is crap. No real rock bands anymore, just solo, what a shame, i loved the 80's and '90s
Was so excited to be going thru some boxes this week and found my cd of this album again. Not sure how it got in there but playing the crap out of it now in the car.
Just become aware of this band through the actress the singer is married to and trying to find their 1st album 2nd hand. Remind me of Toad The Wet Sprocket and Hunters and Collectors. Like Howlin Maggie they fell through the cracks, shame.
Got to meet these fine young fellows at Spinnaker's PCB concert on March 23, 1997. I still got the autographed ticket stub No. 0099. Admission was only $11.26!!!!! Fun times man!
Fuck..... this song popped up randomly in my head and hadn't listened to it in a couple of years if not more, threw it on YT right now as i was gonna begin writing an email and son of a bitch this song just hit hard.... like just at hard as when i heard it when it came out. Fucking goosebumps and everything..... but damn this such a good song done by SUCH good players..... everyone's killing their respective roles, and those vocals!!! Both lead and background son of a bitch again.... these guys are good.... and I'm a drummer!!! Man such a great song and such a rediculously great band!!! A great time in my life when i discovered these guys on the radio, hearing this made my day and i hope these guys read this and know that it did!!!!
I saw you open for Dishwalla and The refreshments, you were the best band of the night it was down hill from there. I forever became a fan and I can still hear sunflower the way it was played that night, in the big city of college station tx. I have seen close to 30 concerts some I barely remember, so that is saying something. I would love to hear new material so make it happen :-) cause i wanna hear it and sunflower live again!
Loved both CDs. I can't believe you guys didn't get HUGE. Please, don't ever give up on your music. I introduced my boyfriend to you guys when we started seeing each other. He's my husband now and we're coming up on 10 years. Your music has been a part of "us" since day 1 and it's so great to see that ya'll are still looking to do more. Please keep it coming. :)
Back in the day I would take my 12 year old son Aaron and 6 year old daughter Amanda to concerts at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC. They were the youngest kids there and were known at the club by "The Matchbox 20 kids". They won the favor to meet backstage with the bandmembers like Matchbox 20's Rob Thomas, Cool For August's bass player, Jimmy of Jimmy's Chicken Shack and Michael Duff of ChalkFarM. I sat at the bar and waited. I met Mr Duff at a small venue in Baltimore's Fell Point area, he remembered my kids.. I asked why he never plays I'm Awake ; he added to the song-list that night. I asked him about the song Sunflower, who he wrote for/to and told him how my daughters nickname was Sunflower from the song too. Later, at an outdoor concert in the Inner Harbor, CF and MB20 was there and the kids got back stage. I spoke to him again when I recoginized him in the crowd . He met my Sunflower and sang that song and pointed to her that day. She and Aaron remembers and listens to CF to this day. What a great time. Michael Duff is a easygoing great person... Thanks, I'm Awake....
Saw the at the 9:30 club as well....was hooked for life. Notwithstanding was one of a handfull of albums where I loved each and every song the first time through!!
the worst part about this, is that i only discovered this when i was 18. some of my best memories heading out to the lake house were accompanied by this song. love it. miss it. wish they were bigger. happy that i knew them while they were small.
You guys were way better than that shitty label gave you credit for! I'm sure the record business was changing quickly back in the day, but that just made you guys casualties for no good reason. Love your whole archive...
Escuche esta cancion en una serie que se llamaba Daria aya por el 97 ..me gustó y me kede clavado con esta banda ...Excelent job Chalk Farm ..keep on rockin¡¡
I live near Canada in PA, when I first heard this song, POWERFUL song the message, the collaboration, the vocal expressions, to a climax, that makes me want more, hell of a band!! thanks "Much Music" and "Utube," I will listen to this again and again,OK You got me,I"ll buy the album again, Definitely another underrated Band.
Man to high school and Huntington WV with Trace Ritter and so happy to see him doing well wish the band was still recording Man every time you would see Trace he had is guitar with him and I see it all paid off
This is a FANTASTIC rock song! With all the wimpy crap the 90s put out, this tune was a great relief!! Still crank this and sing at the top of my lungs!!!
Such great song writing... I'm sill amazed Chalk FarM didn't get huge. There are a few songs where I remember right where I was when I first heard them; this is one of those songs. Thanks for sharing.
@chalkfarmband I bought this album because of this song when it came out. Its one of my favorite CD's I own. Have always wanted to hear more. Would also like to learn how to play some of these tunes but can never seem to find any of the sheet music anywhere. Its so sad cause you guys are AWSOME!!!!
I still have a tape (yes, a tape) of Chalk Farm before they signed. Great music. I saw a few times in 1995 / 96. - After Lie on Lie came out, I could NOT believe that they didn't become huge. Think of how prevailant the song would have been after Iraq and Afghanistan started. It's all timing I guess.
did you (michael duff) do the dead space 3 trailer song (in the air tonight)? (this will help solve a huge debate going on right now. PLease and thanks
And some bands only want to put a very powerful message out there in a subtle way- and they'll be happy with one album and then retreat because theyve already said what they had to. We're always being fed topical temporary cures and you cant depend on lie from lie. Really powerful stuff.
One of most underrated songs and bands of the 90's!
Agreed 👍🏽
most underrated song of all time, a true masterpiece, thank you
I love this song! 🎵 ❤️

When I first heard this song, I had to call DC101 just to find out from the DJ who it was!! I was that enamored from the very start.
I saw Michael Duff in Philadelphia just the other week and heard him play this song acoustic. It was beautiful.
This right here is truth in music. Music like this truth is never made anymore. You cannot force appreciation.
Can't believe how long it took to try and find this great, great band here. Not on any of the streaming services, which is borderline criminal.
Wow. Never heard this before. Really good. Sounds contemporary to me.
Put me back exactly in 1996
Yes I did sing in that Dead Space 3 trailer. I tried to do Phil Collins justice, but in a more modern way. I hope you like it.
This just triggered so many memories.... Such a great song!
That's one hell of a guitar solo there. Not sure I noticed it back in the 90s, damn. Love it!
Nothwithstanding is one of my top ten favorite CD's of all time. I played the hell out of this in my car on my Pioneer sound system. Those were the good ol' days!

R.I.P. Orlando Sims (1955-2014)
Awesome bassist. RIP
i was working in radio in Nashville when they played Third and Lindsley, Great and under appreciated band.
Yeah this band deserve some more
One critically acclaimed album then the label dropped them. Bummer.
Got to meet these fine young fellows at Spinnaker's PCB concert on March 23, 1997. I still got the autographed ticket stub No. 0099. Admission was only $11.26!!!!! Fun times man!
This album was SUPERB! Used to listen over and over again.
One of the most under-rated bands of all time. Great album.
I remember this song and how much I loved it when it was released. Now, we need this more than ever.
Great Band Great Album...RIP Orlando Sims
Listen in 2019!!! Great song

God, this was so much better than half the stuff that got popular in the nineties. And I'm not saying a lot of that stuff was bad, But this song...❤

@@timkilraine9530Wish I knew they were playing there when I lived in the Beltway.
the worst part about this, is that i only discovered this when i was 18. some of my best memories heading out to the lake house were accompanied by this song. love it. miss it. wish they were bigger. happy that i knew them while they were small.
The distorted lead makes this a timeless masterpiece.
Fantastic song! Got the CD after hearing this for the first time in '96. Would be nice if some current stations would resurrect this classic!
With all that's going on today what relevant lyrics. This was a very good band that never got the credit it deserved
Very beautiful and well done
my friend picked up this album at a used music store and i bought it because i thought it looked like something different. glad i did!
Found it on a Toys R Us CD in 1997. Hidden gem. Gave me vibes then, and still does. Feels on feels. Pure gold.
This band always had real guitar solos, something that was in danger during this genre of rock!
Good song, I never heard it when it came out back in the day but I discovered it last year.
You guys were way better than that shitty label gave you credit for! I'm sure the record business was changing quickly back in the day, but that just made you guys casualties for no good reason. Love your whole archive...
Such a good band.
Sounds modern enough I say re-release it now might fly!
Escuche esta cancion en una serie que se llamaba Daria aya por el 97 ..me gustó y me kede clavado con esta banda ...Excelent job Chalk Farm ..keep on rockin¡¡
I got the CD. long ago..in the cut out bin.
I haven't heard this since September, 1996 on WVRV 101.1 The River, St. Louis.

Great song, music, vocals, lyrics. Somewhere, some record company 'executive' is holding his head in his hands and moaning "What was I thinking....,"
he wasn't just going status quo instead of leading progress
he wasn't just going status quo instead of leading progress
Man to high school and Huntington WV with Trace Ritter and so happy to see him doing well wish the band was still recording Man every time you would see Trace he had is guitar with him and I see it all paid off
im from Huntington WV and I love Chalkfarm
Nice share!
this whole album is filled with hits that went un-noticed due to the era of hard rock...what a shame!
This is a FANTASTIC rock song! With all the wimpy crap the 90s put out, this tune was a great relief!! Still crank this and sing at the top of my lungs!!!
150%Excelencia
awesome song, so 90s!!!! miss them... why no more comments?
I own the compact disc. It's so wrong that more people don't know how good this is
It's rare to find an album you can listen to from start to finish, but this was one of them. I regret having lost it many years ago.
Loving that fact that you guys are back together. Love this album but never got to see you like a visit to Birmingham, UK would be immense
Please get your music on Spotify.
It's finally there.
How can three people vote this down? I guess you can't fix stupid.
I still like to crank this up!!!!
is that the location where the deftones shot there be quiet and drive video?
My favorite song back in the day! You guys rock!
LOVED THIS BAND WHEN I FIRST HEARD THEM.GREAT SONG LOTS OF PASSION.
Such great song writing... I'm sill amazed Chalk FarM didn't get huge. There are a few songs where I remember right where I was when I first heard them; this is one of those songs. Thanks for sharing.
Glad I finally found this. Amazing this band didn't stay a long time in the limelight.
Any idea what bridge this was filmed under? Is the same location as the Deftones' "Be quiet and drive" video. Been trying to find it. :)
Such an under-rated band.
@runtrizz look on ebay, you will find this album, ebay, type in chalkfarm music, hit search, it's there!!!
@makeurself @zendragonfly2008 you are correct 3 2's was an independent release....Duff and Ritter put their hearts into it
@chalkfarmband I bought this album because of this song when it came out. Its one of my favorite CD's I own. Have always wanted to hear more. Would also like to learn how to play some of these tunes but can never seem to find any of the sheet music anywhere. Its so sad cause you guys are AWSOME!!!!
Sounds like Toad The Wet Sprocket & Gin Blossoms!!!
I found my copy of pepsi generationext from 97 and recreated it from youtube
You guys need to get back in the studio, Goodno
I still have a tape (yes, a tape) of Chalk Farm before they signed. Great music. I saw a few times in 1995 / 96. - After Lie on Lie came out, I could NOT believe that they didn't become huge. I heard this on DC 101 years ago
I always thought this was Dishwalla playing song
Too true for reality ' s own sake!
did you (michael duff) do the dead space 3 trailer song (in the air tonight)? (this will help solve a huge debate going on right now. PLease and thanks
Magnífico

Thanks for recommending them to me.
They remind me of a few bands of the era, decent vocals.
LOVE THEM!! Amazing band!!
I love this song. So relevant
GREAT song!
Love it! Can't wait to hear the new music.
does anyone have a video other than this one? Like maybe they were a musical guest on a varity show?
hello, can you tell us when we can enjoy a full version of "In the air tonight" cover by your band? :)
what's SAD are all these VEVO commericals!!!!!
