Beato is great at revisiting and explaining music from past decades. For some of us it's a great reminder of how good music was back then, while for others it's a good introduction to how good music was back then.
I found this song back in 1997 just as I started dating my future wife. It always brings me back to that time in my life. 20 years and 3 kids later and I still get that feel of those days back in 97.
I was 17 when i 1st hrd this and it changed my whole game up back in '96. And now they're back making sick records. Let's just thank GOD for that brother. Bless you and your kids.
The album is mostly about addiction, yes, but Ken has always maintained that this song is about an infectious pop tune getting stuck in your head... but sure, you can read things into it if you want.
Songs can have an actual meaning and that’s fine. You can interpret a song however you want and that’s fine too. I’m sure it doesn’t bother the artist however you interpret their songs :)
I was a teenager in the 90s. I had mtv on constantly. I listened to alternative radio like my life depended on it. How on earth did I miss these guys? Thank you, rick beato, for directing me to this gem.
Same here, it’s when I listened to music the most…my whole life was about listening to music. I thought i remembered every band no matter how obscure from the 90’s. I either have early onset Alzheimer’s or I totally missed this band somehow. Not here from Beato though, must have missed that video too.
I feel this too. Back in those days I was a junkie for shows like 120 Minutes, etc. I am only now hearing this band in 2023 for the first time. Great stuff!
I know this is song about addiction, but it really resonates on love themes so well on many levels, or maybe it just resonates on tremendous number of levels, and thats why this is so awesome piece of music
God, I love this song. It's funny how you can get stuck on a one-hit wonder just by chance if it happens to come at an opportune time of your life. I heard this on the radio back when I was about 16 and fell in love with it. Been a huge Ken Andrews fan ever since and have followed all his various musical endeavors. I am so glad Failure is back together and making music! Makes me proud of my decade.
Fantastic Planet is the only album that I have consistently listed to over the past 20 years. I would love it if you guys went back and remastered this video in HD. Would be pretty cool for a 20th anniversary.
Frankly, I'm a HUGE Ken Andrews fan, and I really thought FP was the worst thing they ever did. There are two good songs on the thing. You want a blown mind, listen to "Year Of The Rabbit", or "Secrets of the Lost Satellite"- or "On-Shifting Skin"--all by Andrews.
This song and video are brilliant because they are simultaneously a send up of radio friendly pop while masquerading as a James Bond theme that never was....
I'm pretty keen on 90's music and bands from that era, but why have I not heard of you guys until now?! Thanks to my local radio station for playing this song today so I could find your music on RUclips..love your sound!! 👌
Because this was an actual alternative band from the 90's. They never really made it to the mainstream. Just played a few times here and there on MTV, but not very often. They never really got the promotion they deserved.

Just saw them last night in Sacramento. They were fully awesome and rocked the house like it was ‘96, except better- polished.. They are true musicians that have always never left any details when it came to songwriting, and taking into consideration of the final sound. What an awesome show- Heliotropic melted my face off.
