Well I got my latest order of LEAF kit and we had a miserable day on Monday with perfect conditions to try it all out. Alpha LT over a Combat Jacket over RHO LT top with RHO LT bottoms and Alpha LT Pants. Very high winds 100KM gusts and rain with 5'C temps. I was warm and dry, as to be expected and very comfortable all day. This combo is everything I expected it to be. The Alpha LT blocks the wind totally and if the temp was any lower I'd swap the Combat Jacket for my Atom LT or Atom SV on a real winter day. The rain sheds off and soaks your boots so Gore-Tex boots are a must or you'll have very wet feet. All the cord adjustments are easy to manage with the exception of the Alpha waist pulls, They are so far to the side that I have to adjust before I don the jacket as my arms are too short to reach them when I have the jacket on. The hood is perfect and snugs down on a ball cap really well so that all movements of your noggin shift the jacket hood and don't impede your vision.A great combo that I trust will serve me well for years to come.
Go with a polyester or polypropylene base layer. There are many manufacturers of these products. The mid layers are important use the same materials, or you can use 100 % wool?, it will weigh more but will continue to insulate when wet. Stay away from down if there's a risk of it getting wet, especially in coastal mountains like the Pacific Northwest of the USA or Canada. Once it get wet you have to get into a warm heated tent to dry it out. Goretex works for the most part, but in coastal areas with heavy rainfall 100 % waterproof shells with a poncho that covers your pack and shoulder straps is the only way to keep your gear from being saturated with water and adding alot of additional water weight. You will still become damp from perspiration, but that is better than the alternative.
Which Arcteryx shell would you recommend wearing over top of the Atom SV to keep dry during heavy rain? I live in the Pacific Northwest, and it's quite rainy and windy during winter.
Im new to the concept of proper layering so this was good to watch. I must admit though, this guys mid layer would be my idea of an outer layer. I am always running hot and just the thought of having a jacket like that coupled with a gore tex outer makes me heat up. Once our weather changes, I’ll be trying out some new combos though.
and then you realize what you should put this stuff thru as a grunt.... nah, thanks only cool behind a Display Window and you have to rob foreing country´s to afford this
Unfortunately in the past couple years Arc'teryx have discontinued and messed up some of there iconic 🥇 designs and what I especially liked was the Gore-Tex Shells with ⛷ "Expedition Fit" 🏂 for better mobility 🥋 and more comfortable layering options. Arc'teryx LEAF has also recently discontinued some exceptionally well designed and well-made apparel. I'm highly disappointed 😤 about such amazing outdoor apparel such as: *Theta SVX Jacket and Theta AR Gore-Tex Jacket, *Theta AR Pants > Theta SV Bib, the kick-ass *Drac Pant and the necessary matching Riggers Belt in "Wolf 🐺 Gray", matching Drac Jacket, Bravo Jacket AKA: *Alpha SV Jacket & Vest > Alpha AR Jacket (three different names for the same jacket 🤷🏻♂️, now that's stupid and totally confusing). The Combat Jacket & Combat Pant (Gen 2), Minotaur Jacket, and my personal favorite the superior fitting *Naga Hoody (Gen 1). I know my Arc'teryx Gear 🎿 inside and out as I've been wearing the Dead Bird brands apparel for 20 years now. DCG 🏴☠️
If you shop around and get lucky you might be able to find a factory second. I got one for half the price(still a hefty $450) and have worn it well. I have no idea why it is a second. No flaws I can find. You can check relavant forum exchanges as well. It is worth the hunt. It is bomb proof gear.
You're correct. However it does not seem to matter at least in my one occasion to find out. Early on I got fuel on the front. My own fault. I happen to live in Vancouver very close to where one of the factories is. The original place. I just asked what I could do to fix the stain. No questions asked they replaced the panel that was stained. My own fault, not a penny spent and they did it instantly.
+Berly Tannyono Putra expensive? yes. great product? absolutely! it is lots money but the product is so good that even after 10 years of wearing it the arcteryx still look like i bought it yesterday. so you pay 600 for it but it is only 60 bucks per year. suddenly it's not that expensive. try to wear same "regular"priced jacket such as North Face or so , for 10 years. hmm , don't think so.
Rony B I bought Arcteryx Sabre jacket a couple years ago but after one and a half year of usage I noticed that it began soaking in downpour rain. Still, it's perfectly fine to shed snow but it's only somewhat water-resistant, not waterproof like it used to.
+Berly Tannyono Putra The factory water-proof coating is wearing off naturally. You can buy 10$ solutions to clean your jacket and restore its water-proof fonctions.
Fred Fleurant been there, done that. I've been using many Nikwax re-proofing products as advised but none works. I still didn't notice any improvement on my technical jacket whatsoever.
Berly Tannyono Putra Wow buddy, that sucks. I hope it doesn't happen to me. I use Granger's waterproofing solution that I simply put in the laundry and it worked wonderfully.
I find it a little amusing and a little disturbing that you have found it necessary to teach potential customers how to clothe themselves. Would i be incorrect in assuming that people who were raised in any of the biomes of Canada, let alone people who have undergone training in the Canadian or United States military, would reflexively add or remove layers in response to discomfort?
Practically all or most of their LEAF products are hand made and Made In Canada. And you're also paying for quality. Yes, there are some other brands that sell the same quality products for less the money, but not the way Arc'teryx LEAF does them. Usually, if you need the best, you'd have to pay a little more to get the best, but yeah, the cost can be ridiculous though.
Holy smokes... what the hell are you getting (you don't have to answer that)? For my list, I'm looking at $1400-1500... yeah, that's still a lot of money, unless you're in the armed forces/law enforcement, we'd be paying big bucks for it.
+Bill Bird I agree, the cost on half this stuff is enough to make anyone salty....but welcome to tactical gucci where middle-age men with too much money finally can spend it on some cool stuff. I just save up until 4th of July/Black Friday/New Years theres always a great deal on this stuff floating around somewhere. Besides, this stuff typically doesn't move all that fast. Somebody always has a sale on something.
Calling a t-shirt part of a system allows you to sell it for something it's not for ten times the price. Their equipment is not bomb proof just expensive.
Gee thanks for the heads up. What an informative video...rolls eyes. Arteryx are ridiculously over-priced rip offs. I am amazed people pay out for this.
Rip off of what? It blows anything from No Face out of the water. I’ve been wearing a technical shell for five years and it shows absolutely no wear or tear and the DWR is still performing as it did on the day I purchased it.
i've been using dead bird gear since the mid-90s. as far from rip-off as you can get - they're the ones others copy. there are many good gear manufacturers these days, but in the mid and late 90s, dead bird was the ONLY gear for ice and cold weather climbing.
I like how he leaves us with time for an awkward pause after telling us his name. Thanks, .....Tony.
Had to watch it again. Haha.
That’s cause Tony just woke up.
OMG..so true. Freakin hilarious!

I know the price isn't nice to us but when it comes to things you don't want to be cheaper about its the stuff that will keep you dry and warm.
Total cost for the e pieces: $7,000 USD.
step 1 to affording it: learn spelling
If you save $134 a week you can pay for that in 12 months lol
and then you realize what you should put this stuff thru as a grunt.... nah, thanks

Why I can't find any of this on your website? Where can I order the jackets you showed in the video?
@xxsomesadkidxx
It is our Combat Jacket. A lightweight, non-insulated softshell.
Glad to help brother!

I cannot find this color in the Brands site..
Very much appreciated friend

And to think I have survived over twenty years in a T-Shirt.
In this weird sector of the military industrial complex there is no such thing as equipment; there are only systems.
***** I think he was being Ironic. I'd love to go to Devon, but I wouldn't necessarily be wearing a goretex combat jacket there though.
***** Who are you talking to?
But were your t-shirts layered.
1:01 what jacket is that?
whats that second layer jacket called?
Naga Hoody Gen 1 was cool Naga Hoody Gen 2 and 3 fit like a potato sack ..
compromise for fat operators ?
RIP Money :((

That LEAF Alpha jacket is bad ass! Just sayin. Some day I'm going to own one.
Tony is adorable.
What base layer is that

You'd be surprised. Newcomers, tourists etc. Some may layer but do it wrong. Who knows. What is wrong with providing some info?
+Ken Clark You'll be surprised how many people get it wrong.
(US Elite Gear) often has great sales and I have seen a $500 Alpha LT go for $400
Doesn't have the warranty though they mark the tag.
That's what? $1000 in layers just for the upper body and we haven't even gotten past the waist. Great clothing but the co$t !!

My current list of Arc'Teryx gear I want to buy tops out at $2500. Sigh.....

The Beta AR is most certainly bomb proof
tony has issues

Carinthia and UF Pro (both from Europe) are same quality but way cheaper.
OK boomer
