I had a gen1 that I got around the same time (2015). It was by far, the best waterproof jacket I have used. However, I did experience a total failure of the seam tape throughout the jacket after just the first wash (using the soap and methods recommended by Arc'Teryx). Good news is that Arc'Teryx did replace the jacket with the current Gen2 after I mailed it back to them and they inspected it. Bad thing is that it took nearly 10 months to do so and they still didn't have my original color (wolf). Instead, I settled for the green "Crocodile" color (which still looks good).
Why your Leaf alpha gen 1 has the logo on front while the other gen1s I search online don't have it(or on sleeve like gen2)? Wanting to get one but I'm confused, sorry.
-66F or -50C. Keep it mind this is a Windbreaker and Weatherproof shell. It's meant to be used with Mid-Layer Like CeriumSV And Base Layer RHO. All three layers make the most extreme weather suits. LEAF being more durable military line.
I really enjoyed this video. I am a new owner of a Gen 2 Alpha in Crocodile. I have not washed it yet and have some sweat and carbon from shooting on the outer material. Do you have any cleaning tips? How did you care for yours over the 5+ years? Chris
Man I got my hands on 3 sets, ranger green/black/wolf for 150$ a piece this year by my local dealer after their China Buyout. The place was getting rid of them since we stopped dealing with arc...
@@JimmyMeatwhistle Hey man, thanks for the reply. I am just wondering if the mid layer has a hood, is it gonna be uncomfortable around the neck? It looks pretty tight when you zip up the jacket.
@@jasonqian7116 I have used a mid layer hoody with no issues. The jacket has a built in hood rolled up and if you find it a bit snug, unroll the jacket hood out.
Had the chance to get all their pieces after the chinese buy out.... Sad they sold to china but im so glad I was able to purchase for 10% of their price tags.
Good question and thanks for the comment. I'm 6'1" but around the same weight, some times approaching 200. Plenty of room in this large, room for mid-layers etc.. If my arms were a bit shorter a medium might work just fine. I think a medium would work for you.
I’am 5”11 180 lbs 42 inch (107cm) chest, i use a size M, i can still have a t-shirt + sweaters + down jacket underneath the alpha. I believe that the size large is about 3 inches larger in chest circumference, it would be too big for me.
@@terrydactyl6751 RM canada ? He should look at Millbrook then, they have only arcteryx leaf and even without the pro account he can get a 35% off on anything Leaf
Been looking at this set for a while now, just went over the edge.
Great to see a long term use review on this jacket. Thanks.
Thanks for the comment and I'm glad it helped 🍻

How cold would you be able to work with this? I was thinking of wearing this during winter
the alpha is just the hardshell outer jacket
for warmth you need inner layers like the atom

Use atsko sport wash, it's cheap and probably the best detergent for washing goretex clothes, just follow the instructions that arcteryx provides.

Hi im from singpore how can i purchase this LEAF MODEL How much does it cost?
Hey, is this good for hiking and trailing? Can you wear a middle layer puff jacket with hood underneath?
It's perfect for hiking, or any activity. And yes I wear a mid-layer underneath. This is the best Gore-Tex jacket on the planet LOL

Great review! Any problem with the taped seams on the jacket after 5 years of use?
Thanks for the comment. Will double check in the morning and report back.
Checked it, no issues with the seams.
Thank you! I've just bought myself a leaf alpha gen 2 jacket. Hope I can get years of hard use out of it!
The build quality is great, but I'm just worried about the taped seams coz they seem like the weakest part of the jacket.
@@cyw8203 badass jacket, you are gonna love it for year!
Great video. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! Can you tell me how tall are you? I'm trying to decide if I need large or x-large.

That jacket is SO DOPE!! Nice purchase!
Haha it is sooo bad ass, love it! Thanks for the comment🍺
I'm 5'8 and hugging 185 lb. most of the time. Chest on the broad side (36"). You think medium would work with an Atom midlayer for me?
I think medium would fit 👍
Leaf alpha lt or this Alpha?
Is it No Melt No Drip?
I have an Alpha SV - how does the fit compare? Im usually on the fence between M and L. Im 5'10 and fluctuate between 180 and 190. Thoughts? Thanks

Fits a bit bigger than the Traditional Arcteryx size. Its made to accomodate plate carriers and a first line underneath.
Did you figure out wich size you needed? We are exactly the same size. I allso wear a size large alpha sv. But have room for a atom lt under.

How packable is it?
I just tested it, I can get it down to about 10" x 4-5" roll. Not bad, but the lighter weight stuff will get smaller of course. 🍻
Jimmy Meatwhistle Cool, thanks for the reply!
