This used to happen on Nitro regularly. There were entire matches where the crew would just be putting over the NWO. Especially in the early days despite the fact that they were over before they started.

Hated listening to Lawler. Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone and Joey Styles will always be in my top 3. Don Callis for NJPW is very good and I also enjoyed listening to the NXT team of Mauro Ranallo and Nigel McGuiness
I've been watching old ECW clips, & Styles was always on point. He was absolutely hilarious and he was always excited about whatever match he was calling...I forgot how good he was.
Today's commentators don't have anything unique to make them stand out, maybe because they don't have the off the mic background in the business. Bobby Heenan commented some boring matches back in the day but his character was enough to usually keep the audience entertained.
They're all Michael Cole clones. That's the problem. Cole is fine, but with everyone sounding like Cole it becomes boring. That's why I've been digging Joe on commentary, he spices it up. Because a Straight Man commentator always does better with a sassy Former-Wrestler to clash with. JR and King, Cole and Tazz/JBL, it works.

Seeing all the hate Michael Cole gets always makes me think yo the glory days of Smackdown with him and Taz. They were good bc they were different and got the message across as their own characters
Jr and king were priceless. Tazz was excellent on smackdown also in my opinion. Him and cole bounced off one another very well. JBL was a brilliant commentator too, but nothing will ever beat JR & Lawler on a Monday night. Legendary.

I don’t think JR ever wanted to be apart of AEW. But as he has talked about, he was at WWE and for almost a year, they had him doing nothing, and didn’t want him to announce, as he’s too old. Wrestling has changed so much, I don’t know how anyone could sit there and call these matches.

OMG!!! This really captured what's really hurting the product today. WWE's commentary today is just HORRIBLE. Some days I can watch the matches with the sound off and enjoy them more than Cole throwing out catch phrases.

Jim Ross, Jim Cornette, arn Anderson and all the other legends loved wrestling and it wasn't just a job to them. That's why they were so good at what they did. They go through what these current wrestlers and announcers do with with fine tooth comb and they can find all of the fallacies with today's wrestling. They mention things the average wrestling fan never thought about.
Well people can't help but to present the product in the Vince McMahon presentation of it his vision of it and he has exposed the business so much that you probably can't present it as a sport now or present it seriously without modern fans looking at you like your crazy which is the trap that TNA fell into and now AEW is falling into the same trap it has to be a different presentation than the WWE presentation/ Vince McMahon philosophy if you want it to be an alternative or different
God the biggest compliment to them is the saddest story. JR, Cornette, Lawler, etc. These guys have not been replaced yet and it will be a long time before anyone could come close to filling their shoes. Until then we have to suffer the mediocrity of what we have now....

The way i see it with commentary is they have to sell the shock that’s why jr is so good best example of perfect commentary is when stone cold showed up and beat the hell out of Dubya Cee Dubya and ECW followed up with Kane and Undertaker delivering a double choke slam. I know by the end of that JR had to have lost his voice
Everything about WWE has really gone to shit, in every department apart from the actual talent of some of the wrestlers, which is a shame. Just the machine behind it, all the cogs that go into a great wrestling presentation is all gone, it's like the knowledge hasn't been passed down from yesteryear and standards preserved. You have go back to something like a 1990 edition of Wrestling Challenge or something to see how things are done, I mean how ridiculous is that? Maybe we just have to accept that wrestling has been through the peak of its cycle and has run its course and there's just no going back to a bygone era. A bit like everything else these days to be honest.

I like listening to Cornette and all, but he’s a two-faced liar like Ric Flair. Segues is the word. They can’t segue from calling the match and filling the gaps... josh Matthews sucks. The all kinda suck besides Michael cole in graves.... Taz and jr and the other one. Not the one with the mask but jr and the rest are good. Only downside to this day is sometimes I can feel the commentary becoming dull at times. And why? Because jr stops talking which I think when he lost his suspension of disbelief and pulls himself back and regroups. Three man commentary is like a band and in a band you need a percussion section to keep the base the heart of the band pumping without the percussion the band stand sounds good... but could sound beautiful... JR is the percussion of the professional wrestling commentary, Hell I watched his boxing commentary wow just wow! Listen to his boxing commentary that’s how you Segway in background information commentary

Everything about WWE has really gone to shit, in every department apart from the actual talent of some of the wrestlers, which is a shame.
Just the machine behind it, all the cogs that go into a great wrestling presentation is all gone, it's like the knowledge hasn't been passed down from yesteryear and standards preserved.
You have go back to something like a 1990 edition of Wrestling Challenge or something to see how things are done, I mean how ridiculous is that?
Maybe we just have to accept that wrestling has been through the peak of its cycle and has run its course and there's just no going back to a bygone era.

Impossible to listen to this & not come away thinking that JR hates at least 85% of what he sees in AEW every week, especially from guys like Omega & the Young Bucks.

In simple terms the commentary team do not have the creative feeedom to say what they want and are micro managed with every little thing, it impedes the quality of the show and the commentary, AEW have got it right
I like listening to Cornette and all, but he’s a two-faced liar like Ric Flair. Several times I’ve heard him BURY the shit out of JR for being part of AEW, yet still has time to buddy up to him on his show. Lame. If you’re gonna bury someone, bury them to their face. Must be why he’s scared to debate Russo face to face.

No one is exciting or funny anymore. They all sound like boring sportscasters. Why can’t they find one funny guy to be a Bobby Heenan or a Jesse Ventura? Or provide hilariously made up information all the time like Gorilla? Vince was the excitement guy I imitated when playing with my toys as a kid.

ZBR Heenan was one of a kind. A great guy and renowned prankster. But also a great commentator. Henaan was great on heel color commentary.

AEW Dark's commentary sucks bad
Jim Ross is the worst commentator today. He sounds like he's battling senility with his constant mumbling and low enthusiasm. He hasn't displayed any passion since Hell in a Cell 2011. The AEW commentary desk is like a morgue anytime Chris Jericho isn't on it.

Tripple H could really benefit having someone like Ross there to help him understand the announcer psychology. Vince is too old to focus on everything the way he use to.

Ross was a great commentator. But I didn't feel his personality fit well in the Attitude Era. It was like a rhinestone cowboy at a Pantera concert.
Segues is the word. They can’t segue from calling the match and filling the gaps... josh Matthews sucks. The all kinda suck besides Michael cole in graves....
Taz and jr and the other one. Not the one with the mask but jr and the rest are good. Only downside to this day is sometimes I can feel the commentary becoming dull at times. And why? Because jr stops talking which I think when he lost his suspension of disbelief and pulls himself back and regroups.
Three man commentary is like a band and in a band you need a percussion section to keep the base the heart of the band pumping without the percussion the band stand sounds good... but could sound beautiful... JR is the percussion of the professional wrestling commentary, Hell I watched his boxing commentary wow just wow! Even though I do agree with what he is saying, Jim Cornette is just so negative with everything it’s hard for me to take him seriously a lot of the times. I’ve tried to listen to him, but I just hear someone whining with no real solutions. Sad, because he’s very knowledgeable and I’m sure he amps up his negative stuff for the views and money. But hey, he has a following so must be working for him so can’t knock him for it.
He has plenty of solutions, if you listen long enough.
