I didn't think Tony was the best back when WCW was alive, but after hearing some of the announcers later on in WWE and seeing Tony return to AEW, I appreciate him a lot more now.
@Sherlock Holmes lol ok
I've always been a fan but i'm glad Tony's finally getting the recognition he deserves. Besides JR he's one of the best to ever do it
Facts! WWE announcers are so robotic.
@@chozahfearless7524 because EVERYTHING is scripted
@@TBtheking405216 yeah and when they go off script Vince yells at them in the headset
I’m in shock wwe doesn’t want him he’s by far the most realistic announcer that was in the game, he gives a validity to wrestling, like it’s a college football game.
I always thought Schiavone and JR were far and away the best commentators in all of wrestling. I thought Schiavone and Bobby the Brain were every bit as good and almost as entertaining to listen to as JR and Lawlor were. I can't believe WWE didn't want him. He has been one of the main voices in pro wrestling for decades.
Schiavone is a legend. Its sad WWE didn't bring him in. He's the voice of Nitro.
WE ARE OUTTA TIME HERE ON TNT!!!
I agree but that’s more of a testament towards how WCW underachieved. He was second rate and a minute late. That was WCW in general to.
Lois wouldn't have wanted to go up north anyway.
Schiavone actually worked in the WWF for a few shows, strangely.
@@rlouie05he worked in WWF for a year from 89 to 90
Tony Shiavone and Jim Ross, great announcers and the voices of wrestling. Legendary and classic.
Respect to Gordon Solie
One of the greatest commentators in the history of our sport
Our *GREAT* sport!
It's not a sport. It's our great fake sport/soap opera.
@@jaydav6521 Does this feel fake to you? 👊👊👊
@@PJErvin looks like a worked punch to me, so yeah.
@Billy Bob don't forget about offensive and defensive coordinators calling bs plays to set their own teams up to fail. And referees have a strong effect on the outcome as well but players aren't meeting their opponents in the bathroom pregame to go over the finish.
Had the WWE done what they were going to do and make Smackdown a WCW show, Tony would have been perfect as the voice of it.
Oh yes please
Well we know Tony still has it
Met Tony a couple of years ago. Humble awesome guy. Had a great conversation with him and told him how much as a fan I appreciated his work.
I always feel bad when I hear Tony tell the story of how much he regrets leaving the WWE in the late 80's for WCW. We all have that one thing where you're like "Had I just been smarter with this one decision when I was younger my entire life would be different". He probably see's JR's career and knows that could have been him.
Glad he's having a comeback in AEW and he looks like he's having a blast there.
Someone had to be the voice of WCW though. And WCW was essential to helping create the greatest era in wrestling history. So I think Tony, whether he believes/understands it......DID make the right call.
I remember when Tony left WCW to go too WWE for one year that's when Ted Turner bought NWA and then went back to WCW😅
I was not a fan of Tony back in WCW. Today I can realize how important he's been to the business and I can't thank him enough
He was the big part in WCW success. I had no problem watching him!!!
No offense meant to Lawler at all, but when that Raw/Nitro was airing all I could think was how amazing it would be to have JR and Tony Schiavone call a match together.
JR and Tony were both play-by-play. You need a color commentator.
@@FanboyFilms 2 things.
1. I didn't at any point say anything contrary to that.... and yet... There you are... For some reason assuming it.
2. AEW's on every week. They figured out a workaround. They also... aren't new.
Bro Lawler is way funnier than Tony no cap
@@imhim3433 Never said anything to warrant that comment either. He's definitely funnier than Schiavone. When did I ever say otherwise?
@@dhotnessmcawesome9747 dude don't even both with these pedo marks, typical wwe fans
It's so funny that Tony has such a low opinion of himself, since on AEW I feel like he might be better than he was in WCW even.
He is better now than he was in WCW but as he said here he was burned out after WCW went out of business. He had been away from wrestling for almost 20 years as an announcer so he's rejuvenated now in AEW
This is older. It was recorded a long time ago
No way. Tony is a play-by-play guy, but AEW has him doing color, which he's terrible at. If AEW ever gets their second television show going, they should move him off Dynamite and let him do play-by-play on the new show.
@@SaturnMemories They don't need a second TV show. The entire reason Dynamite is worth watching every week is because the product isn't oversaturated like WWE's is.
Also, Dark exists if you really want a second product.
Tony's best work in wrestling was with Crockett Promotions.
Tony, you were great at WCW!
Tony deciding not to go to WWE was the single most important day in the history of our sport.
It was an all time low (along with the 7 or so all time lows that the NWO would pull that same night)
Wtf?
Lmao no
No one gets the reference. Probably the greatest reference in the history of the sport.
He was the voice of Nitro of course they never wanted him.
Yup him and Larry and heenan had a good team
@@krotma well they took food off of wwe plates, so yea I would just fuck with them to
But he hired Bischoff who quite literally was trying to put Vince out of business
@@krotma ok and so what
@@dontreldontrel416 you're a moron
Vince is a loser
The monday night wars were my favorite commentary. Thank you for the years of entertainment gentlemen. Being in my early 30s now best era of wrestling were you guys.
Even all these yrs later Tony and Jr are still the best comintaters the current wwe 1s are awful
I mean Tony still has it JR the last few weeks just sounds like he's half dead behind the mic.
@@butterthyme2241 think it's more to do with excaliber some of the things he comes out with are ridiculous Jr is having to constantly correcting him and commentate
The current commentators are awful. The entire product is awful. For me, I think Heenan and Monsoon were the best with Ventura and Monsoon a close second. Good chemistry.
@@satyayoga very true the current wrestlers wwe and aew are crap to be. I was always a wcw fan when it was nitro v raw I just thaught wcw commentary was better. And why vince didn't go all out and get Tony made no sense vince screwing up how many times have we said that
I’m not a fan of Corey Graves... I do like Jbl Cole and king as a team though
Tony was a low-key member of the Four Horseman. Most of his best moments were his promo interviews with Rick Flair, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, and J.J. Dillon.
Something that always sorts tickled me in the back of my head…. Tony was a face stick man, but he spent a lot of his off time hanging with the biggest heal stable in the business. I never understood how he was able to get away with it when you consider how much the industry tried to keep heels and faces separate. It’s would be like in 86 seeing Boby Heenan and Hogan on the beach sucking down appletinis
Tony Schiavone was an awesome commentator and I would say one of the best. Class act too. Too bad WWE sucks.
how the fucc did WWE not want Tony Schiavone!
I can’t express how happy I was when I heard his voice on AEW
Tony Schiavone was always the voice of wrestling for me
Tony is a legend!!! He was fantastic back in the early 80’s for WCW. Him and Jim Ross were great together !! Miss those days.
He’s better than Michael Cole that’s all I know
Michael is good when he isn't being produced.

Tony Schiavone is just so goddamned likable. And a great announcer.
Tony, JR, Bob Caudill were a huge part of my childhood. I havent watched wrestling since the late 90s, but I constantly watch stuff like this and old WCW/NWA videos that pop up in my recommendations.
Thank you AEW
I just meet Tony today in Boston while I was working at TD Garden in Boston what a gracious humble human being
Why is he hating on himself like this? Tony was awesome!
It’s so interesting to hear JR and Tony on commentary in AEW, the voice of Monday Night Raw and the voice of Monday Nitro calling matches together it’s just kinda weird, not in a bad way, but just feels strange.
Agreed, it just feels right
It’s just weird especially since they’re doing it for a garbage company like AEW
For a Different Company at that lol
I've yet to watch an AEW show, but that announce team sounds epic. I honestly haven't watched wrestling since WCW folded.
Jim Ross and Tony u sed to work together in early wcw. They are just reuniting in aew
Schiavone would be a good fit for the WCW retrospectives who would now the material better
Hence y he's good at aew, they trying to relive wcw
@@nukiepie BIG REASON why they'll eventually fail... Just like WCW, they keep signing WWE rejects and pushing them HARD.... GOTTA MAKE YOUR OWN STARS.... ONLY ONE THEY MADE SO FAR IS MJF......
Hope they make a good run tho
@Jonathan Devereaux yet every talent that doesn't get used the way "MARKS" want them to be used all the marks scream "HE SHOULD GO TO AEW"......
We get JR and Tony in one place as well as Taz 🤔 I am sold.
Tony is a great announcer, I actually liked when he and Jesse Ventura made commentary for summer slam 89, and always thought he was a great announcer for Nitro and the PPV, i think he should be in the HOF for his work in WWF and WCW
Love these guys. cant watch wwe anymore. I never thought i would say that but i just have had zero interest in it since probably 2018. Aew is exciting for me. Maybe its that wcw feel ive missed for so many years. Im pumped each week to watch. Its like wwe actively tries to not give the fans what they want. I dont get it
AEW is horrible. NJPW is the best product on the market
i've had 0 interest when stone cold left in 2002 / 2003
Thank God "john silver" for AEW
@@meladgoat yeah I've been done pretty much since WCW was sold.
I was watching sporatically since the first Brock vs Roman, and was checked out for sure after Wrestlemania this year.
The stories have just become such nonsense that it's impossible to watch. And it's a shame, they have a lot of talented people basically being squandered by the ridiculous storylines, where basically only major PPVs matter, theres no reason to watch the TV at this point. It's all cringe and no substance, and you know nothing will happen on TV.
AEW feels like what wrestling used to feel like when I first got into it. They give you a reason to tune into Dynamite each week. It's not perfect, but it's miles better than the sterilized WWE product. The stories are consistent from week to week, and actually feel like they matter.
Tony was the Voice of WCW.
Even though his skill was probably on the low side of great
His time in WCW was iconic.
I mean Joey Styles probably lessened his impact by working for WWE.
He was the Voice of ECW.
Now hes the guy who jumped around
Now both of them work for AEW. GO FIGURE??
If they did a WCW One Night Stand, I really hope they have a Judy Bagwell on a Pole Rematch!
Kanyon's dead, they can't.
Buff Bagwell's pill bottle on a pole.
That match was horrible
@@deandremajor3404 I thought it was great! Almost as good as the Viagra on a Pole match between Kidman and Shane Douglas haha
We need to have Tony reintroducing: THE YETAAAYYY!
I get that he was the "voice" of the rival, but it's realy WWE's loss. Tony is so great.
6:24 _"I get the impression that I have, for some reason, been blacklisted from the WWE..."_ Tony's claim could very well be true. If Vince does have a personal blacklist, it would be interesting to see what other names are on that list.
The whole thing with bashing Mick Foley and spoiling their matches on WCW TV in his own voice probably got him blacklisted. Which is too bad because it wasn't his idea.
Nailz
Macho Man
WWE managment is so out of touch in every way. It's so bad that you actually hear talent regularly say they dont wanna be there. Even talent working for WWE talk about how much they wanna leave. That says alot
instead of Taz
getting put at commentary table around 2002
it could have been
Jerry Lawler and JR for RAW
Tony Schiavone and Michael Cole for SMACKDOWN
I've always appreciated Tony's work 🌚🏆
Instead of a WCW one night stand, I think a series of sit down interviews with long-time WCW rivals, hosted by Schiavone and Tenay. Even guys that have legit heat with each other. Have a ring in the back, so if they wanna shoot let em shoot face to face.
Mike Tenay was amazing it would be great to see him again.
Both Tony & JR are the GOATS when it comes to doing announcing
Tony was great working with the best Wrestlers of all time how he isn’t part of the biggest promotion is crazy.
Knowing Vince- "Introducing the only living Schiavonasaurus in captivity....."
The two GREATEST announcers of all time
Tony's return to wrestling has been one of my favorite stories the last few years. He seems so genuinely excited for the product and sells everything so well. JR, by comparison, sounds like he's just there for the paycheck and the chance to gawk at women half his age.
“Not that good”?! There were only certain voices I wanted to hear on commentary. Jim Ross, Jesse Ventura, Bobby Heenan, Larry Zbyszko, Jerry Lawler and the list isn’t complete without Tony Schiavone.
@@gavin.lannan no offense, I was meaning my list. You can have your own of course.
@@gavin.lannan I appreciate that but hey we grew up with it.
Shiavone was MY voice of Wrestling. Professor Mike Tenay as well
Tony Schiavone was the voice of WCW.
Tony was great listened to him in his early days in nwa with David crockette
I always thought he was solid, not in jr league though, this is going back but tony did commentary with Jesse Ventura that was goid
In March or April of 2021 At the Wrestlemania they should do a 20 year WCW reunion and bring all of the talent from WCW that is still around and bring them all together one last time or maybe do a WCW Wing of the Hall of fame.....Just have them all get together and do a tribute to all of the former wcw talent that has passed on.
I couldn’t agree more with you, a 20th anniversary commemoration of the final Nitro/WCW reunion would be something special. If they could reunite Tony and maybe Scott Hudson (who did a pretty good job on commentary) it would be something that fans of the old brand could appreciate and enjoy, and by shamelessly plugging the network, introduce new viewers to WCW.
I remember tony shavioni and Jessie the body was on summerslam 89
Love hearing the voices of both sides of the Monday Night Wars and AEW.
I love to listen to Tony do the WCW matches. He made things that much more exciting.
So we just going to act like Tony didn't work for Vince bacc in 89 when he left the NWA/WCW
Here's what's weird to me. WCW closes, and you got all these guys who are still under personal contracts through Ted Turner himself rather than through Turner Media. So you don't get Hogan. You don't get Hall. You don't get Nash. Half a dozen other guys. All the guys who are considered to be the big names of WCW basically.
At the same time, you run a headline match of Booker T vs Buff Bagwell, and it's used to gauge the crowds interest in bringing back WCW as a full time second brand. The idea being you would have WCW Monday Night Nitro, and WWE Friday Night Smackdown.
And you can't get the big names to help make Nitro feel like Nitro.......but you could have easily gotten Bobby Heenan, and Mike Tenay, and Tony Schiavone. If you were planning on bringing back WCW full time, what was the plan? JR and Lawler would just call Nitro?
Vince can claim all day that he "wanted" to bring back WCW, but his actions speak louder than words. If he truely saw a long term full time plan for WCW revival, then the Invasion angle is where it would have happened. He would have brought in actual WCW commentators. He would have bought out the contracts of the big names sitting at home, because at the end of the day, sure he loses some money up front.....but then he could have kept the WCW brand going with TV deals and touring to this day.
WCW's revival was killed by Vince before it ever had a chance to take off, and it was done so by Vince himself.
ECW was almost the same way, except I believe ECW was killed by the people surrounding Vince. ECW could have been what NXT is today, but certain people didn't like the bloody past that the ECW name carries.
wasnt Tony Schiavone in the wwe/f for about 10 minutes right before sean Mooney?
Tony Schiavone was the voice of real RASSLIN worth watching back in the 80s at least.
Not sure how many years old this is but a WCW one night stand it's far too late now. Of former WCW wrestlers still active I can think of Jericho and at the very beginning of his career that noone remembers him there AJ Styles. People thought of WCW in the late 90s as too many older guys compared to what the WWF was doing and now they are way too old to be in the ring.
Chris Daniels was briefly there near the end, which I was stoked for, but he landed on his head attempting a quebrada, and was that was about it for his run. It was almost 20 years ago now, and even the young guys from then are all in their forties at best.
THX.............JR & Tony !!!
Tony was one of my favorite voices in wrestling. Besides JR he was it for me
Fun fact: Tony is the one who edited the Ultimate Challenge match between Hogan and Warrior at WM6
The 2 best ever Jr and Tony
Shiavone to me was the Jim Ross of the WCW. I enjoyed listening to his commentary
Give me Ross, Schiavone and Mike Tenay calling wrestling all day everyday. The only three man booth I would have.
Honestly Tony belongs on the short list of the greatest announcers.
Jim and Tony are true amazing legends in this wonderful crazy insane world of wrestling
I still think the table of 3 episode should happen with Joey styles, Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone
The Magic and Bird of commentators. In a world of the Yeti, Shockmaster and post 99 Vince Russo... Schiovane made WCW feel as epic and serious as he made it sound.
I am surprised TNA didn't make a play
I think he made 2 appearances with them back in the weekly PPV days. He has said on his podcast that Vince Russo always treated him really well. Russo wanted him to continue with TNA but by that point Tony's heart wasn't in it anymore and he declined.
Just searched for Tony wondering what he’s been up to. Loved him on WCW. Sure enough he was outta the business for good since I didn’t hear from him at all.
You can tell Tony was hurt they didn't offer him anything. Tony is the voice of my childhood. Bruce Pritchard says Vince hates Tony's accent.
Tony Schiavone was very good! JIm Ross too.... Gordon Solie was the best!
The voices of my childhood
When Tony came to the WWF in 1989, I didn’t know who he was because I had never watched WCW. I thought he was great in his short time in WWF. SummerSlam 89 and Royal Rumble 90 were my two favorite shows from those years respectively. I think Tony had a lot to do with that.
My favourite commentator of all time
Tony should have been the lead announcer on Smackdown, him not returning to WWE in 2001 shocked me.
I REALLY REALLY missed Tony all the years he was missing. 😥 😔 😟 🙁 😞 😿.
He called the best Moments when Sting destroyed the nWo.
"STING WITH THE BAT"
It was a great tragedy and blatant disrespect not bringin Schiavone onboard wwe was running Raw, SD, Heat, Metal, and jakked they coulda put him somewhere even backstage interviews
JR and Lawler was the greatest commentating team.
But Tony Schiavone is one of the greatest, he was the perfect voice for wcw, was different than JR, and did such a great job
Love hearing him on AEW
I can't say it's either man's best work, but it's very cool they're working together again on AEW
Tony was amazing! I'm glad he didn't go to WWE. They would have ruined him.
Tony and JR are best friends
Tony was 10000 better than Michael Cole on commentary. I'd rather listen to him over Booker T or taz or several others
Why do these Ross Report clips have that damn tapping noise in the background? It wasn’t there at the original audio.
Tony Schiavone did great improvised promos with the likes of Hall and Nash, Rude, Flair, Hogan.
Tony to me had always been great to me.
Pete Rose has to be the worlds most famous non-HoF baseball player.
He appeared in SummerSlam 1989
Tony and jr are the best combo
"i dont know if i could still do it" and a year later Tony is doing AEW.
Pete makes good money signing autographs in Vegas. He doesn’t need cooperstown
the only thing ive held against tony is he wouldn't let heenan acknowledge monsoons passing on air .....
AEW watched this interview before it started and said. BINGO.
I think it’s for a couple of reasons. 1. I think Vince probly had sour grapes over Tony leaving in 1990. He comes from WCW only to go right back 1 year later. I think Vince may have taken that as a slap in the face, although Tony of course didn’t mean it that way. 2. Because Tony was the voice of WCW during the Monday wars......this meant that he was ordered to take vocal cheap shots on air at WWF for quite a long time. Again, Tony HAD to do this. But even though he wasn’t making the call, it’s still his voice on those broadcasts forever. And I think Tony is the one who paid the real price for that, as opposed to Bischoff. It’s a real shame. As Tony is a guy who truly deserves to go in the HOF as one of the all time great announcers.
