It's amazing how Tony got the idea that fans hated him. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to realise he shared none of the blame for the shambolic end of WCW. To so many of us he was one of the voices of our childhood, the Monday night wars were esaentially voiced by him and JR, which is why they remain so beloved
I get the feeling from hearing how he talks about himself that I think he has low self confidence. He has had one of the best careers as an announcer in wrestling and is loved by many fans. But I get the feeling that he’s his own harshest critic and because of that he’s almost taken it on himself that the fans dislike of what WCW turned into reflects onto him. And in a sense I think he has a small truth in believing that. I say a small truth because I think had he gone right back to announcing in WWF after WCW that fans wouldn’t have the same love of him then as they have of him now. I think he is an example that absence makes the heart grow fonder and because of just how long he was away from announcing matches, and hearing just how hesitant he was to do it again for fear of not being good enough to do it again, makes fans love him even more now that he’s back. At the same time I also think how WWE interacted towards him on the occasions he did try to get s role there exacerbated negative feelings he felt about the quality of his work. He tried to get on as an announcer shortly following the sale and they turned him down. That couldn’t have felt good. And then hearing a story like this where he had to reach out to multiple people to try and get s producer role, and how they strung him out and clearly never communicated with each other about it had to further make him feel that he wasn’t talented enough for them to even care.
WWE never rehired Tony since he left in 1990. Tony also contacted WWE for a job, and they never got back to him. Tony from his belief was blackballed for some reason.
The only one who said, WWE needed Tony was the op. Why are you apologizing? I thought Tony sucked as an announcer and did not fit the WWF/E, even when he worked for them before.@@walterhervas8064
My favorite interaction with Tony and Bobby Heenan was when Bobby would talk and Tony would tell him to Shut Up! There was even one segment Bobby was talking and they went to commercial. They came back from commercial and Bobby is still talking and Tony said "You talked through the ENTIRE commercial!" Then he told him to shup up again! I laughed so hard that night.
One of the biggest travesty’s in professional wrestling was Tony never came back home would have absolutely been perfect competition Michael cole smack down and Tony would have been Monday night raw for sure especially when sting made his run a true wrestling fan will never hate our heroes and icons
WWE are such a shady company, for all their hypocrritical corporate pretensions they often act like the worst kind of carny outlaw promotion from the territory era
Hated Tony as a young wrestling fan during the MNW, but grew up to have major respect for him after the fact. A big fuck you to Vince, the son-in-law, and Bucky Beaver.
Best wrestling announcer I’ve ever heard, probably best sportscaster/announcer I’ve ever heard, yet wwe didn’t want to even talk to him!? Argh. Still miss the old wcw team of announcers where they had Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, and Larry Zybsko as leads and had Mean Gene Oakerlund doing interviews and backstage and various segments and guest spots with Bobby Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon I think was his name at times. It’s also a shame Vince McMahon didn’t stay an announcer in wwe he was better at that then he ever was as “mr. McMahon” character. Also I think Mike Tenay was the only “color commentator” I’ve ever somewhat liked or tolerated, in wwe that role usually meant stupidity/lunacy/ “off-color” aka horrendous jokes that should never be told type jokes. It amazed me growing up how many people seemed to think Tenay was the lead commentator when it was actually Tony Schiavone. Wwe/aew fans can say good ole jr Jim Ross was “the voice of wrestling” all they want, to me that title always has rightfully belonged to Tony Schiavone, regardless what company it’s with. And I still remember back when i was a little kid hearing from everyone young and old how much of a coups it was to get someone like Tony Schiavone to work for wcw and help them out. At the time the Atlanta Braves were seemingly like the hottest franchise in all the sports world and their merchandise sold like hotcakes in almost every market nationwide regardless of media market or sports market and many international markets from what I heard, and this was back when baseball had a chance of being permanently added as a Olympic/global sport because Japan and other countries were taking it up too, and he was called “the voice of the braves” back then if I recall correctly, he partly stepped back from all that and helped little wcw wrestling that was still trying to transition from wccw to wcw and become a national/international wrestling company/business while still trying to still in NWA’s good graces and keep onto being able to use the NWA title belts as long as possible on their programming from what I’ve read, it could have been a disaster out career move, no one knew then how hot wcw would end up getting/becoming or that the braves wouldn’t continue pulling in huge amounts of revenue/capital year after year like they had been doing.

We never hated you Tony. Old WCW fans like myself missed you. You were the voice of our childhoods. I was STOKED when I found out you signed with AEW
No way, The people loved you as the voice of WCW!! We would have accepted you and preferred you over Michael Cole any day!! lol
Tony Schiavone did not need WWE.
WWE needed Tony Schiavone
Lol WWE don't need him liar

Don't worry Tony. You'll never have to worry about where your next paycheck is coming from again.
Hell No the fans love Tony Schiavone. One of the greatest to ever do it.
The phrase "to ever do it" needs to die already with this fanbase
He's much better off. Especially after hearing Bischoff discuss a day in that office.
I've despised WWE ever since they bought WCW and just basically hit the "delete" button on it...
Conrad dragged Schiavone out of poverty it's a beautiful story 😢

It's Tony!
If he weren't working for AEW right now, he would've had a better chance getting into WWE today, with Vince now being out of the business and all.
Is Tony still with the braves or Georgia bulldogs
Wow

But then, 92.9 the Game stepped in and allowed Tony to grace their presence.

Why not announce for AEW or TNA Tony?
He’s been a commentator on AEW for a couple of years now.
You may be living under a rock. Tony has been a commentator and in backstage roles with AEW since 2019.
@@Matt-cr4vvOr they just don't watch a horrible wrestling show and don't know.
@@e2goI don't know why you are calling AEW horrible when it's good, maybe not as much as WWE since 2022, but it's good as NWA from 1984 - 1988.
