- In this Fleet Friday, Lieutenant Ben Sipe provides a tour of Decontamination Unit "Decon" 17. The vehicle is a 2013 International Durastar with an Alfred Industries cargo body. This vehicle was originally named "Decon 3" as reflected by the decals that have not been updated yet. Several of these units were distributed to fire departments in the Denver area as part of the Metropolitan Medical Response System or "MMRS" with the goal of efficient response to incidents requiring mass decontamination.

As amazing as everything carried on this truck is, I find it more amazing that this firefighter knows it's there, where it actually is on the truck, what it's all used for and how to use it. This man's like a walking database!

I've never seen a fire truck like this before in my home town, I've seen pumpers, ladder, and ems in the fire departments where I live.
Same here. My department only has engines, medics, a Explorer and a pickup truck.
It is really great to see that South Metro is supporting Breast cancer awareness month with their logo in pink on staffs T shirts. Well done! Wish the services in the U.K. would do a similar thing!

Is there a hazmat day in a life
Why would there be? Hazmat is not a dedicated unit as they don't many Hazmat calls. When a Hazmat call comes in, the engine crew jumps on the Hazmat truck.

It really depends on the department, if it’s a bigger department they will likely have specially dedicated staff, if it’s a smaller one it will likely be cross staffed. Same deal with swat

They already have, HAMER is an old name used for Hazmat 38 which you can see at ruclips.net/video/zpdGIg9DD-o/видео.html. HAMER stands for HAzardous Materials Emergency Response and is what South Metro used to call their hazardous materials apparatus.

Two that I know of I believe. The channel and the website should tell you. Right now one is/ was reserved for Covid.
Just one for hazardous materials. There is/was another temporary unit that used the "decon" name for COVID-19 related decontamination which is/was not a permanent unit.

How often is this rig used?
This apparatus responded 16 times in 2019. It ran 2 calls as Decon 3 before it became Decon 17 and ran 14 calls as Decon 17.

The explanation is in the description. Decon 3 was what this rig was previously called before it was changed to Decon 17. It was related to South Metro's historical department number 3.

I see AR (Synthetic foam) I thought the alcohol resistant foams are the bad ones. What about using Class A foam that is biodegradable? I understand that in terms of environmental protection it seems that the foam you have stocked does have risks to yourselves and the public. Just an inquiring question.
I think that they should do Another government food give away to fire departments& police departments to this year.& military aswell from the farmers again just for those groups.& then shelters.& Red cross for emergency relief resources to.& then everyone else last this year.
That includes DNR.& fish&game to.& give deer.&etc. Types of meat packages out to for them also. Through donations.& food drives to help out.

Water Wednesday I think it could be a good idea with rescue boats and water units to see what they do in a day. I think this could be like fleet friday and A day in the life as it could show what water rescue does in a day and what they use.

I think Collapse 45 is a really unique solution. I don't know if I would want to work with it, but it's certainly the most interesting apparatus of SMFR.
Any reason you didn't do a demo of setting up the sprayers and scrubbing down some of the new firefighters in their Level A gear? Seems like it'd be a good training opportunity.
I am guessing it takes a while to set up and take down then do all that. They would probably need to plan that as a department training with one of the commands.
@@EricWhiteTheGamer Well, yeah. My question was more why this particular Fleet Friday wasn't planned to happen during such a training so you could grab some cool footage.
They normally don’t do that. But that would be a great different category idea for there channel for all vehicles.

South Metro went on 38 hazmat calls in 2019 and this specific apparatus responded a total of 16 times in 2019.
Typic Amerika🙂 much bigger than needed😉. Put this things on right an leftside with flaps and the vehicle can be in half sice as it is.🙂

I don’t think they do. Check the channel or website. If they need planes or helicopters they call them in from the state, National and local and surrounding fire support teams.
