- This Fleet Friday features Tower 18, stationed in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
Tower 18 is a 2017 Pierce Velocity with a 2,000 gpm pump, 300 gallon water tank and a 105' rear mount aerial platform.
Why don't you start to do station Saturday. Like fleet Friday but instead of touring your truck's you tour your station's and on Saturday?
It’s a weekend for PIO
@@chriswen9764 They don"t have to film them on Saturday's...
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO Sweet! Id love to see these!
You genius person!
Simon Greer yea!
I would love to see a day in the life of a FireFighter/paramedic
They actually do got a episode of that
I looked and no they don't i just would really like if they did like ride alongs in the 4 cab ambulance

@@ian-w-mtb_5518 I know but I want to see one with an ambulance and paramedics or emts
Gavin Humphrey there may be some in their unscripted series idk
I love tower truck
In Austria er say to the Chainsaw Fichtenmoped 🔥
Can you have south metro merch
They dont right now but i think they might be working on it.
Day in the life of a battalion chief or a captain?
battalion cief because it is a better role you are not in danger of potentiolaly breathing smoke from the fire and you get a nice car
This is the best tour of a rig I have seen in a long time. Engineer Pete Scully, you did a FANTASTIC job! Your information was spot on and you delivered with confidence and pride! The people in 18s district should be very happy to have you and the crew you bring to the scene.
Yeah he did very good job on it explaining everything
My favorite ❤️ Great video guys! 😁
Poalo
When he said other appliances I immediately thought he meant like toasters, microwaves etc 😂
Lol 😂
I have seen rigs with small refrigerators in them (not medical coolers) for water and gat... sports drinks. I even saw an old 800 series ALfe with a beer tap on the pump panel . . . mind you it was a 800 series (probably a 1960+- vintage) amd a rural PA rig.
William Billiam LOL! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@markaaronclemons6089 see have refrigerators. Not just in the ambulance for medicine, but in the engines for water and Gatorade.
Your channel is amazing! Im so happy that I discovered it a few days ago.
It is interesting to see how your fire department works in the US.
Keep up the great work!
Best wishes from Germany. Stay safe!
That was a really cool episode with a great guide and an impressive truck.
Can't wait to watch this. Which type of tower is better? A mid mount or rear mount? Too bad you don't have a tiller that would be an awesome Fleet Friday vid
In my opinon, none of the apparatus are better over the other. It depends on the area of operation and needs. Midmounts provide the best range of motion for the ladder. They require a little bit of thought when placing the apparatus on a fire scene. Meanwhile a rear mount allows for a "straight throw" in which they can park the apparatus pointed directly at the structure, and throw the ladder. My department does not own a ladder truck, however these are some of the opinons that I have heard :) Hope this helps!
@@AuthorX303 good point
Comes down to territory
@@AuthorX303 exactly, it comes down to many factors. Be it streets in your first due and extended response area, be it an existing station design, or many other factors. One is not inherently better than the other. In many cases a large enough department will have all of them. Then you have straight stick aerials and even they can come in mid mount. There are so many factors that go into determining what is the best for a department and/or station.
I like my mid mount sph100 because I can drive under the Whataburger sign!! In one of our commercial plots it's really low.
I live right by station 18!!!!!
Wow
@@k.oseiagyarko4608 I know it is pretty awesome!
I live close to station 23
I'M SO EXCITED!! South Metro is the best!!! 🚒🔥👨🚒👩🚒
True
Its a class 1 department so technically yes but la L.A. county FDNY chicago fire Department orlando are also all class 1
@@joshuaspada6531 I know that but I love south metro fire and rescue because they have ladder
True
how’s everyone doing?
Good you
pretty good, hope you're safe and healthy
interesting apparatus, many differences to our turntable ladders in Germany
This USA beast won't even fit into our European medieval narrow streets
@@MichielKlaverDifferent trucks are designed for different purposes, and you're right, these trucks wouldn't fit into any of the streets in Europe. However, these trucks carry a lot more water. I just read that some European trucks don't have water or pump! They need a pumper behind to supply water! American trucks have both water and a pump, making them much more independent, but also larger, heavier, and less compact.
I just love Pierce Rigs!! I’m not a firefighter but my father was for 35 years. Retired a Lt in New York State. Thanks for sharing all these tucks !! Great video’s!! Thank you for what you all do!! Absolute hero’s!!
Pierce trucks are niiiiiiiice. Wish my department had one.
Indeed
Wow, cool.. also cool that you guys have an sticker in memory for the goose.
In memory… or a kill marker?
Hello I always wanted to see one of tower 18 stay safe
105 foot high climbing down a 16ft ladder? Uhh no thank you. That kid don't need saved that bad lol
Yup, My 9 y.o. and will watch it this weekend. He'll be stoked to watch. Welcome back. Been missing your content.
I think that you may have made a mistake with the aerial length for Tower 18 in the description. Pierce job number 30955 and the tip of the aerial both say that the aerial is 100'. The 105' would be Ladder 12.
I am a big fan from Singapore
Recommendation I’d you guys when Covid situation is over do some more day in the life it shows people more of what firefighting is in south metro also thank you guys for all of your work during this difficult time
I love fleet Fridays
Question: Was Tower 18 used on the Chili's Structure fire (I think it was in 2017) off of C-470? This is one HELL of a nice rig.
TWC-3 2CYCLE OIL marine outboard.& none outboard engines will run on the same oil it's formulated for multi purpose use. I recommended super tech.& valvoline myself.,or lawnboy.& Briggs& Stratton brands to all of the fire departments nation wide myself.& use none ethonal fuel in your 2 cycle engines for sure.
I love this channel! Even though I live on the opposite side of the world its super interesting to see how things are done
Very good information about tower 18 hope that everyone is doing well and being safe
That’s a Pierce Velocity 100’ foot tower not a 105’
That is a Unit for sure. Had no idea tower ladders were that equipped
Super Malaki Yung Bumberong Pierce Same Kay Rosenbauer.
Can we see a ladder 12 fleet Friday?
The Tower has a confirmed kill. Lol.
Thank you for the Fleet Friday’s Eric and Connor
What is the cost of this entire tower package with all of the equipment? It's well worth it, I'm sure.
A new truck is usually anywhere between 900k-1.3 million, also depending on the equipment they put on it. For example the hurst battery extrication tools they have on that truck is probably close to if not more than 30k for them all.
What type of Hook was your gear connected to in the engineer compartment? Your jacket and Hood, what were they connected to
Can ladder 12 be next for fleet Friday so we can see the 3 type of aerials
i agree
What are the 3 type of aerials?
There is a fourth type of aerial, a skylift, but you hardly see them in the US, they are mostly used in Europe since a big firetruck like this one would get stuck around every corner. So we use the compact skylift.
@@anddrewb1367 ladder 12 is a rear mount straight stick, tower 18 rear mount tower, and all the rest of the towers are mid mount towers
What kind of uniform pants does south metro use/supply? My departments is looking to switch uniform pants from 5.11 cargo to a nice straight leg? Weird question...I know 😂
Just go dickies if you’re leaving 5.11, which I do why anyone would wanna do that...
South Metro Fire Rescue PIO thanks
How tall is the ladder
100 Feet.
Awesome job. Very informative.
how long is the ladder from the truck?
So cool
Nice Rig I love Pierce Apprautus here in Bangor Maine we have a 2018 Pierce Velocity Puc 1500 GPM 300GAl 100’ Areal Platform Tower which is assigned to Ladder Company 1
Hi south metro fire department I like your video in keep the good work up in I how long do u have to be in the south metro fire academy
I will like to see more south metro fire academy video in the south metro fire fighter life as the fire stations
Normally there are 2 different fire academys each year and they are each 6 months long. South Metro did a full series on going through fire acadmy. If you go to their youtube page and hit playlist they should all be there.
Think you
Can you do more fleet Fridays?
This Firefighter is very knowledgeable about the sully18. He knows that Quint upside down and backwards. An excellent presentation and employee. I hope he promotes to an officer shortly.
Good God, DEF seriously? Nothing like trying to respond to a call and the engine derates for a forced regen. Does SMFD have a bulk DEF tank somewhere or do you swing by a local truck stop to fill it up?
I am thoroughly impressed with how quickly those stabilizers deploy. Way quicker than I thought they would be.
@South Metro Fire Rescue I love your videos! Very informative and well put together. I'm considering becoming a volunteer firefighter at some point. It's definitely something out of my comfort zone, and I want to help others in a different, exciting way. What advice would you give me? I know there's a ton of things I need to know, more than you can list here. But what are some of the most crucial things to remember?
Hi there, I was wondering if maybe 1 or 2 of your paramedics would be open to doing a small series on basic first aid skills (I.E. Heimlich Manuever, how to check a pulse and where to actually place your hands for CPR, how to splint an arm or stabilize someone's neck correctly with your hands in a car accident) many people live in rural areas where sometimes a response can be too late even in the best of situations, this may be too much to ask i get you are all very busy, stay safe and keep up the great work regardless, you guys truly take care of your men and women, many more departments could learn from you all.
Very great video! I do have a question, when at certain times you guys get very busy with probably 3-5 medical calls and a working house/commercial fire on some days, do you guys do mutual aid request if a # of stations are busy and cant respond to calls in their first due area, or do you have another available engine, ladder/tower, or medic respond? Kinda boggles me how you guys get very busy and still have some to a good amount of stations available while being jammed packed with calls
fleet Friday in 2050: today on fleet Friday we are going to talk about engine 90 lie so basically this engine can fly and it uses virtual water to put out the fire
At 17:37, please don’t use dry chem on metal fires. You need a class D extinguisher or at worst a bucket of sand.
Could you please do a Fleet Friday episode on Safety Officer vehicle. Thanks.
It's a 100' ariel, not 105'.
Which station houses the reserve engine?
Reserve units are kinda spread out all over the district really where ever they can find room for them.
Jut wtonh now you want me back
Did any railfans hear shave-and-a-haircut in the background? Because I did! @ 13:02
This is just an idea but can u go to Harrisburg and do a video for progress fire dept 32 and other stations in harrisburg plz btw love your vids
Lol @ ring removal kit
Oof bobcats and cougars/ catamounts are certainly different species.
I watch a lot of your videos and I know pulse point dings at the beginning. Still gets me very time haha
3:31 “hazmat kit for plugging dikes” isn’t that what fingers are for?
Love it. Does your department have any new apparatus on order? I see Pierce has that new tower ladder out and they seem to be very popular. Do you have any on order?
How come your pump doesn't have an intake relief valve?
Is this truck bls or als
So your the guys that killed goose from top gun did you atleast apologize to maverick
Love SMFR and Tower 18 is my favorite truck!
Great Vid
Great presentation! I never saw so many compartments/tools (and secret compartments too) on one truck.
Beautiful truck!! Thankyou so much for your service guys!!
YAY, Y’ALL FOLLOWED MY SUGGESTION!!
Hey x
@@ryanchristianson1945 me
Great review. He did a excellent job explaining everything and he was very clear and easy to understand and hear. Very will done.
station 18 unscripted? that would be really cool to see.
4:11 are the paratech struts unique to this tower because of it's location/geography making it a longer trip for the heavy rescue? Or is it because the other towers are mid mounts while this being a rearmount has some additional vertical space? Both?
This aerial was originally purchased by Littleton Fire Rescue and equipped as a heavy rescue aerial. That equipment remained with the apparatus after the unification with South Metro and is definitely helpful in the hard to reach places in the southwestern portions of the district.
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO Would you happen to have any insight as to why Littleton spec-ed their aerials as rear mounts while SMFR spec-ed out midmount platforms? Do crews prefer working on a platform vs the ladder?
I’ve seen South Metro fire before but I’ve never seen myself on it
MAKING THE HAIR ON MY ARMS STAND AT ATTENTION ! LOL ! GREAT NARRATION AND EXPLANATION ! SMFR =!🏆
I think y'all should do A fleet Saturday to.
Really clear guided tour. Thank you.
Air "cylinders". Babies use bottles.
Very nice I missed the EMS compartment
Can you please do a fleet Friday on collapse 45 if you can please
Sorry I miss it I was playing with my cousin 😟
Can’t you hook the 5 inch supply hose to a hydrant
Another brilliant video from SMFR!
I love that they remembered the goose the flew into rig. :)
That's well over a million dollars in gear.
I just wanted to say wonderful good guys.
You are the o
He tried not to laugh when talking about the goose
Can an engine or tower be able to pump water to more than 1 hose at the same time
By far the coolest truck I've ever seen !!!
I love the truck it’s super clean
Why do you guys have 3 woodland kits on tower 18? I have never (in my very limited exposure) heard of a tower truck responding to woodland fire.
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO Thank you.
I have seen a few other fleet Friday videos and noticed that Engine 19 for example, does not have woodland kits onboard. Assuming the video is still current, why doesn't Engine 19 (and possibly all other Engines) have woodland kits when units such as Tower 18 does? From an outsiders perspective (with no info) it seems counter intuitive to equip a Tower with woodland kits and not an Engine.
I would really like to see more of the Man Verse Machine kit that you carry on this truck my department is looking into implementing something like this if anyone could just send pictures of what’s inside that would be awesome
Absolutely. Sent an email to piogroup@southmetro.org and we'll get you some photos.
So I'm almost positive that the EMS load out wasn't shown, and since tower 18 is the first out apparatus, they must be at least a BLS rig right maybe even ALS, so do they keep their EMS equipment in the rig or someplace else
I believe their EMS equipment is stored inside the crew compartment between the two firefighter seats. Littleton Fire Rescue used to run Tower 18 as an ALS rig. I think SMFR might still run it as ALS, but I am not 100% sure.
can you do a fleet friday on ladder 12 ?
Nice rig, features and complement of gear also what 2k pump is spec'd onboard, thanks!
Tower 18 has a Waterous CSU.
