I don't know why, but at some point when you said something about something being optional, it being my own decision, finding what works for me, doing what feels comfortable, etc, I just started crying. The practice is great but it's that constant reassurance of autonomy and safety that really does it for me

I like the way you say "you could," instead of telling us what to do. That feels very kind. ❤️

Just discovered this today. As someone who experienced complex trauma, and as a result repressed it and a lot of my emotions; when I started doing this yoga practice I felt extremely nauseated, even tho I have not eaten anything heavy or close to when I practiced. When I finished I had let it all out and felt such relief and I wanted to cry so much. Cheers for this! Its been helpful,.especially when you mentioned imaging that our intention is becoming true. That was very beautiful, cathartic. Thank you. ✨

many years ago my husbands yoga teacher wanted to teach me, we were going to do a swap of modalities ( i did therapeutic touch and reiki) I went to her house and she was lovely - i did a couple of poses on the floor , and she hovered her hand over my abdomen and asked me how i felt. She was good. She told me, you have some trauma in your body and i would like you to feel safer before you do any more of this. She was right. I found out stuff and was in therapy for over 20 years. I now have done yoga for 7 years, and there are still some poses i cannot do. Your session was really wonderful, your wording and your calm accepting energy is beautiful . Thankyou .

This was interesting. I will say as someone who has experienced a lot of trauma, that the suggestion that I’m safe is not very helpful. I do appreciate the approach and the autonomy recognition but I couldn’t complete the class after the first minute due to that directive. Not saying this to be critical but to share my experiences so it may be educational for yoga teachers that are working in the trauma space. I’ll check out some more of your videos and see there is one that I enjoy 🙏🏼

Hello, thank you for sharing your experience. I agree with you that this cue is not helpful, and could even be counterintuitive. This was one of the first videos I ever created, and I have since altered the cue to: *if* you feel safe. When I first began sharing trauma informed yoga videos there was a lot of trial and error and figuring out how to best support students. I’m continuously learning. :)

You can practice as much as you like. It is helpful to practice a minimum of an hour a week.

I can't focus on this video,
I try to stay focused, but...
    my mind's too distracted:
    1) I am constantly flooded by memories
that fill me with rage. I am raped by rage.
I could murder for all I used to put up with.
    2) how is it that I've spent my whole life in poverty
when I have the talents, passions, and skills
that could make me wildly rich?
    3) stress, stress, stress and more stress...
    always 999-trillion things to do
and the thought of doing any of it
just makes me want to die.
(I am traumatized just contemplating it all.)
    4) food is my only escape.
but for the sake of my health,
I cannot keep escaping in food,
or it will literally kill me...
    5) never in my whole life have I ever
had true love or a real friend. never ever have I...

I’m really interested in trying out trauma informed yoga but I’m super curious about something I have experienced. It’s like I feel super triggered and angry when someone tells me I’m safe, like it feels like they are trying to gaslight me or something because I don’t feel safe. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I’m just curious if anyone else out there can relate.

Hi Ivy, I'm really glad that you shared this. I can relate to this experience. When someone tells me I should feel something, but I don't, it can totally aggravate me too. Because how do they know what I'm feeling or should feel? I can also understand how this could make you feel gaslit. I appreciate you mentioning this so I can be more aware in my language in the future!

@@HannahUiri Hi Hannah. Thank you for taking your time to reply. I don’t mind that you are saying what you’re saying in the video, and I’m sure it’s helpful to a lot of people. it’s something for me to work on too. Is it normal to do this to het rid of dpdr but it worsen it the first times?

    • @HannahUiri
      @HannahUiri  2 года назад

Hi Neda, trauma informed yoga can support those experiencing DPDR. However, on a case by case basis it could be triggering to focus on physical sensations. This doesn't mean it will always be triggering.

Is this anything like Eastern/Traditional meditation?? I'm a Christian and its not recommended that we practice yoga because of the pagan origin, but I really need help recovering from ptsd

Hi, great question. Trauma Informed Yoga shares the same roots as other styles of Yoga - South India. Yoga is not a religion, but rather a philosophy that provides tools for students to experience more peace and less suffering. I hope this helps.

You need counseling and any form of exercise but clear it with your doctor. If you’re having a hard time catching your breath please seek therapy from a speech language pathologist who is trained in treating vocal cord dysfunction. You will feel better with just a few sessions
