Go back and hit that with glyphosate since there are no desirable plants there. No need to do multiple apps of Drive XLR8 at $70/half gallon when you can get a total kill in one app for a fraction of the cost. Keep up the good work. I enjoy watching your videos and I actually started purchasing my products from your company after I came across these.
Good advice! multiple folks have told me to do that now. Most likely will! Thanks for watching, commenting and choosing our website to make your purchase! We really appreciate it.
They are very helpful! Definitely envious of your progress this season! I'm trying to follow along with your process but I missed out on the aeration early this spring. Going to attempt a fall aeration and with overseed. Luckily I don't have a crabgrass problem but I am currently battling a very bad case of Bermuda weed in my lawn. Any recommendations on controlling that?
Thank you for watching and commenting Dustin! It is a lot of hard work to get a lawn looking this good. What kind of grass do you have where the Bermuda weed is growing?
Thanks for the question and thank you for watching our video! It is a bit late in the season to control Bermuda in Tall Fescue with selective herbicide. At this point we would recommend spot treating with a non-selective herbicide such as a glyphosate based product to eliminate the Bermuda. In the future we would recommend starting in early spring, while the grass is waking up from winter dormancy and treating with a product such as Gordon's Ornamec Over the Top...www.domyownpestcontrol.com/gordons-ornamec-overthetop-grass-herbicide-p-10319.html. This is usually a 2 application process, the first application helps suppress the growth of the bermuda in the spring and the 2nd application helps to eliminate the bermuda in the fall.
Thank you so much, I loved your video...easy to get a grip on *crabgrass* and how to eliminate it!!!!...I shall apply Your method and know it will WORK...awesome video!!
Next time you spray your crabgrass I would suggest that you take up your hose so that you don't leave chemicals all over it plus there probably is more crabgrass under it. Not to give another channel a plug, but the Lawn Care Nut has a great video which explains the life cycle of crabgrass, how it grows and when is the best time to attack it. Your front yard is looking good and helps the "curb appeal" of your house. A suggestion - would you make a video about preventing/getting rid of ground ivy, a.k.a. "creeping charlie"? Thanks. Keep dominating your neighborhood!
What can I say...sometimes I get lazy! Actually really like Allyn's videos. He has taught me a ton as well! That is a great idea for a video. We will for sure put it on the list and try to work it in for you. I will do my best to keep crushing the competition around me haha! Thanks for watching and commenting!
1. Water soil, Dig soil with a spading fork, take out crabgrass plants you've loosened in the dug soil 2. Get rid of some of the soil as it's piled too high to the house and mix compost into the remaining soil. 3. Plant dwarf bushes and flowers (or just flowers if you prefer 4. keep the flower bed mulched. No more crabgrass there.
Do you have an overview of what you have done in this series? I watched them as they came out, but an overview of when you put stuff down and what you did would be helpful. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching and the comment Keith! That is a great idea! We do not have a video like that but can for sure plan on doing one for you. Pretty sure it would help lots of people out.
I fully intend to give this method a shot but I'm worried that because the crabgrass has fully integrated into my lawn that I'll harm the existing grass. Is my assumption correct?
Hah ! You did not show post application results....lol.. that crabgrass ....huh ? I sprayed with Bayer "Lawnweed, and Crabgrass Killer" and It grew twice as much...
Thanks for watching and commenting! We are planning to address this very issue for episode 23! Make sure you are subscribed and catch that one when it is published!
Awesome job bringing that lawn back to life. I can't believe how much improvement there was in just one spring season! You didn't name drop during this episode, which product do you recommend for mature crabgrass like this in the lawn? I imagine in the unused flower bed area glyphosate is best? But what about your beautiful grasslings?
Thanks for watching Tyler and dropping a comment! It has been amazing to see the transformation take place. Lots of hard work but well worth it. We try not to name drop products in case that product get discontinued or other reasons. The product we used for this video was Drive XLR8. Really good product for Crabgrass control, as well as other common weeds. Check it out here...goo.gl/Dwqm3s . There really isn't ANY grass to speak of in that flower bed, so not to worried about accidentally spraying something that wasn't intended. Thanks again for checking out the video.
You are correct! We used Drive XLR8 for this video. It does a really good job of controlling crabgrass. adding a surfactant most certainly would help the process. Thanks for watching and commenting.
What’s good to use on pre existing crab grass in a lawn where I can get the grass back growing? I’m in Michigan and the temps are 80s-90s. Or is it too late and just focus on killing the crab grass? Just subscribed so i haven’t seen your videos yet in case you already have one per my question.
Yes, you can use a Pre-Emergent. It will not stop the weeds that have emerged but will work for the weeds that haven't. This will also help for the weeds in early Spring.
Since it is a small area, why not just pull out the crab grass since there are no other plants in the way then leave the grass in the soil if they do not have not produced seeds yet?
Thanks for the reply. I don't understand. What are you saying that there are other seeds deeper in the soil that will surface then germinate? But if the plant is pulled out before it gets to the seed producing stage wouldn't it be good nitrogen after it is mulched into the soil for he soil for the grass seed you want?
SONG FITSTER LOU Theres over a ton of weed seeds per acre. doesn't really matter if the weed is pulled before the seed stage, if the soil is disturbed, the now otherwise dormant weed seeds are now exposed germinate. even if a pre emergent is used.... if the barrier is somehow broken you will still get weeds. If you top dress soil in your lawn you never want to use top soil, always use potting soil because potting soil is sterilized to kill weed seeds and top soil is not
simple. Mix cheap strong roundup, spray the whole crabgrass patch.. now you got just dirt... either lay down seed or buy grass sod in a roll, and instant easy fix... I'm thinking of sacrificing one month's budget to just get 500 sq ft of shade grass sod, lay it down and water every day... so much less work than the whole grass seed shibang....
You can certainly choose to use a non-selective herbicide and reseed or sod treated areas. Just keep in mind that we have a lot of great selective pre- and post-emergents for crabgrass control that will save you that trouble. Thanks for watching!
If it’s really 80% crabgrass the options are either post emergent selective to salvage the remaining 20% grass and then overseed in the bare areas once the crabgrass dies and is removed back to soil....or roundup the whole thing and start over. If you don’t want a huge bare yard and don’t have the money to overseed/newly seed the whole lawn, start in quadrants of the yard with what you can afford and just roundup all the crabgrass, then seed. Once established move to the next section. That’s really the only way to do it on a budget without the whole lawn being a big bare desert.
Ryan Howe Haha nope! My brother was military. Infantry in the 4th ID. PPE is a term used in the past control, lawn and garden industry as well. Were/are you military?
Crabgrass! Looks pretty mature, so you might not be able to control it at this time of the season. Might have to wait until we are coming out of winter, going into spring to put down an herbicide.
That is correct! We tried to overseed Fescue before spring. Part of learning. Sometimes you have to fail. Thanks for tip, watching and commenting on the video!
Make one pass over the lawn area with the power rake. The power rake will cut grooves into the dead crabgrass and other thatch, loosening it and bringing it to the surface. Rake away the dead crabgrass using a stiff-tined rake and dispose of the crabgrass in your compost bin or otherwise dispose of the thatch.
Your lawn is only as good as your neighbors! That means, if your neighbors don't care about their lawn, you will reap all their weeds! I spend a ton of money, killing weeds that have encroached on to my lawn or blown in by seeds.

I would just blast that whole bed of crabgrass with a blow torch. Great Vid!
Actually it cost more per once to use roundup when you compare the active ingredients
I use GlyStar it's a fraction of the price of Roundup and just as effective, really knocks everything out👊👊🖒

Is that Bermuda in the front yard? If so, shouldn't it be mowed shorter? Looks real good though.
Thanks for watching and commenting John! It is Bermuda. Recommended mowing height is 1 to 2 inches, so I am mowing at about an inch and a half.
Duddde. No need to spray the crab grass. All you had to do was tear that crab grass out!
Or use round up or a tiller, and a few bags of top soil then re seed.
Would have been nice to see the results !!!
We did a video showing the results, check it out here... ruclips.net/video/p0I2VYnV0Vw/видео.html

Why not put a tarp over the crab grass for a week?
Business up front, party in the back.
You are dominating, but it looks like your neighbor is scalping and maybe not irrigating as much as you. I too enjoy that advantage.
They most certainly are scalping it down and not watering as much! Like you said, I enjoy that advantage! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Personal Protection Equipment. What do you mean where'd I serve?

Castleberry prior navy. Got out while it was good to git lol. Was a gas turbine mechanic

Question what do you do once the crabgrass dies did you pull it out?
Yes, you can rake it out or pull it out by hand and dispose of it.
Is this crabgrass? imgur.com/a/MV43g I planted some Zoysia plugs, but cant tell if its crabgrass or Zoysia spreading?

Bayer Advance has an excellent product that'll destroy crabgrass without harming the lawn🖒
Why not just throw down some glyphosate?
Most likely will going forward Eric H. Wanted to give this product a shot as I hear a lot of people talk about using it specifically for crabgrass.
Bragg on brotha😜
