How to Get Rid of Crabgrass so it Doesn’t Come Back (EASY DIY)

  • Is your Lawn Always Full of WEEDS? In this video I will show you an easy and cheap DIY way to prevent WEEDS including CRABGRASS before they grow.
    We will be using a pre emergent herbicide called Prodiamine also know as Barricade Herbicide . Prodiamine is a water-dispersible granular pre-emergent herbicide and it is what all lawn care & landscape professionals use to prevent weeds for their clients. It is labeled to control various lawn weeds such as CRABGRASS , CHICKWEED, SPURGE, ANNUAL BLUEGRASS AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF OTHER UNDESIRABLE GRASSES.
    Prodiamine works by preventing the growth of seeds before they start to germinate. It will not kill existing weeds in your lawn, but will provide control for early spring and summer weeds for up to 6 months.
    When to put down / apply pre emergent Weed Control ? The best time to apply pre emergent herbicide is when your soil temps are 50-55 degrees for at least 2-3 days in a row.
    One of the most important steps to spring lawn care is weed prevention. Ive tried many different pre emergents available at Home Depot and lowes such as Scotts halts granular fertilizer and pre emergent (not to be confused with Scotts weed and feed ) , Tenacity pre emergent , organic pre emergent and lesco pre emergent . Those are all good choices but ive had the most success using prodiamine and feel it is the best pre emergent weed killer.
    The Lawn Care Nut has started offering home owner sized bottles at his yard mastery online store. I will link the products below if you’d like to pick up a bottle.

Now, that I ran out of it and it’s no longer available, I used Scott’s weednfeed and it sucked. All the dandelions are still there. Gotta look for a good alternative to Lesco Momentum.

    Another great video! And - you guessed it - another newbie question. We just bought a house with nice landscaping. A lot of the yard is gravel or cedar mulch. And, you guessed again again, weeds are popping up through the gravel and mulch. Right now, we're battling them with speedzone and tenacity (as per your suggestion), but will prodiamine prevent this problem next season?

    Great content as aways.
    A related story is I was able to apply a pre- emergent(Prodiamine granular)to my front yard in late winter early spring (February for us here in Kentucky) but was not able to to apply to back yard.
    My family and I were concerned for the pets. And I got busy and never got to it.
    Well I'm paying the price now. My front yard is amazing 👏. I do have some spots that I have to spot spay but for the most part a 100% difference from last year. Now my back yard is embarrassing to say the least.
    Today I made arrangements for my puppy and cats while I blanket sprayed the back yard.
    I used a mix of tenacity and speed zone, wish me luck.
    I will not go another season
    without a pre-emergent.
    I look forward to following the results of your KBG.

    Hi! Thanks for the helpful video. I'm trying to figure out what to use this year. Our lawn is 50,000 sq ft, Southern NH. I think I'm going to order Prodiamine for pre- emergent and was thinking of also getting Tenacity. Should I apply both products at the same time? Also we have A LOT of yellow nutsedge all over the lawn so I think Tenacity would take care of it? Thanks!

      Hi Allison! No problem:)
      Prodiamine will definitely be a must for preventing weeds on such a large property. Nutsedge can be tough to control with out specialty products, tenacity would not be my first choice for nutsedge. I would look into a herbicide called sedgehammer. I would apply prodiamine first, let the rain water it in and then apply sledgehammer once dry, you will have great results:)

      No problem! Be sure to add a surfactant to the mix of sedgehammer, it’s a pricey product and you want to make sure it stick to the leafs properly.

    Is it possible to use a hose end sprayer to spray tenacity and what rate? I have a lot of yard so trying to take an easier route for mass coverage with the least amount of effort lol

    • @PrincessCutLawnCare
      @PrincessCutLawnCare  3 года назад

      I would not use hose end, application rate is 1/2 teaspoon per 1k sqft, you need to use an accurately calibrated sprayer

    I built a new home and had the backyard (full of trees) cut down and removed all stumps, and graded November 2020. There are a lot of weeds back there right now. It's September 2021 and I'm about to aerate my backyard, put down some lime, starter fertilizer, fescue seeds, and some Milo. Do you think this will help start a lawn back there, or do I need to do something different?

    • @PrincessCutLawnCare
      @PrincessCutLawnCare  2 года назад +1

      Hi ron, thanks for the question. you will not want to use this when seeding as it will prevent your seeds from sprouting. instead use a herbicide called tenacity as its the only once you can use while seeding. good luck
