- Learn to identify grassy weeds in the lawn including dallisgrass, crabgrass, goosegrass, bahiagrass, carpetgrass, and annual foxtail. I also share some lawn care tips on weed control for these weeds. I plan to film a future videos testing a powerful herbicide combination on these tough to control weeds. This video is mostly just for identification.

You misspelled nutsedge
I know the name of that last weed ! It's called a SOB !
This video is not what I thought it was going to be, weed ID in Michigan is a lot different. 😂🥃
I did Google plant search after photographing your plant at 7:28. I looks like Paspalum guadaloupense also described broadleaf carpet grass. I have been watching your videos for quite some time and I admire the fact that you have taken the time not only to identify the weeds, but also have obtained first-hand knowledge of how to control and/or eradicate them. You have quite an encyclopedia of knowledge in your mind. Very impressive, to say the least.
This is the best lawn care RUclips channel there is! Thanks Jason!
Thank you. I appreciate you watching the videos
Thank you for making this video! I live in South Carolina and I am just now learning about the different weeds in my lawn. It seems I have nothing but weeds so I’ve decided to let the carpet grass grow and kill the rest. I have the hard orange clay in most of my yard that is common around our Lake Murray. In the back I have decided to embrace the moss. We’ll see how it goes.
Always great information in your videos
Great video Jason! You have really helped me to identify weeds in my lawn. I have almost all of them. 😁
Glad to help. Thank you for watching
Thanks again for helping me keep my memory in check on these weeds, so very helpful 😀 👍
Glad to help. Thank you for watching the video
Thanks for this video, quite helpful.
Great video Jason!
Good comparisons. Thanks!
Another helpful video!
Great videos. I’m about to renovate a 150k sq ft lawn that’s full of Nimblewill. Hoping 3 apps of Tenacity will do it.
In the south also (FL WPB) I removed some old sod in a crescent drive way section and was trying to establish white clover. I randomly get these strange thin stalk like stems, that sorta of look like the ones you have in the video, but more fuzzy and open. I try and remove them as they appear, but since they grow taller than the clover, if you leave them alone, it makes the area look 'fuzzy'. (far away). Luckily the heats been killing them and just a handful left since I can't use weed killer since it kills clover too. I like the creeping effect of the white clover and the flower in that section because it's a little drought resistant and there's nothing in there except for plants. plus it's low growing but I randomly get those thin stalking things I described and it's annoying. If I mow over the area it's fine and everything looks green and normal but I'm trying to avoid mowing that area because I think I'm making them reproduce. They also hard to target up until they started appearing a little bit more longer because they just look like a normal stem.
You found my problem.. nutsedge! Thank you so much. I have beautiful plush Bermuda grass with lots of bald patches and these irritating springs of shiny grass sprinkle here in there. Now I know what it is and how to go about treating it.😊
Good video brother!
Excellent
Great videos.
Thanks! Jason
First. Love your videos. This is my favorite type.
I’m really enjoying your videos bro I’m in south Mississippi also doing lawn care
They do. I have a 60" Bad Boy Maverick 27hp 779cc. I mow 7 acres weekly with no problems. The air ride seat is a must no matter what mower you decide to purchase.
Love the channel, Jason. Did you get a chance to use the tip I left about the poa?
I’m in Savannah GA, Goosegrass is rampant, broom sedge, there’s also a weed that I can’t identify. It looks like a smaller version of goosegrass but has a different looking seed head. Tenacity turns it white but doesn’t really kill it. I’m afraid to bump the concentration when I make a batch of tenacity because I’m afraid of killing everything else.
So when is it okay to put pre emergent down on newly seeded areas? Msma? It looks like it gets quite a bit of those?
Pylex plus triclopyr plus mentholated seed oil for paspalum. 2 applications 2 weeks apart. Some of my colleagues are doing that plus a little dismiss… spicy.
Thanks for this video. I’ve done all the weed scientific weed identifiers but your no-nonsense approach is probably better. I’ve used celsius, certainty, and drive xlr8. Still chasing weeds and I thought I misidentified the species but I probably just need to do multiple applications.
Some of those grassy weeds are tough to kill
7:35 we call that Hilograss here in Hawaii. In Hilo , that’s what most lawns are
Late in the season but would love to see a yard go from full of weeds to mostly grass
I might be able to do some of those next spring. I'm not sure I have enough time this year to grow in the grass
Hell my yard is full of every kind of grass in this video. If it wasn't for all the weeds I wouldn't have ANY grass.I just call it country grass & keep it all cut.Thats onevof the nice things about living in the country vs some damn neighborhood.Just an opinion, thanks for the video. Now I know.
Do you have any videos on repairing compacted soil in a yard?
Have the lawn core aerated
Nice I learned something now I have a question something that I believe is called Nimble wheel how in the world this stuff showed up in a week later covered up mine Fescue yard that I just put in first of last fall and it was gorgeous I couldn't believe it I thought I was going to have to do it again this spring you know overseed and all that I did not got it all the first time beautiful and here come what I thought was Crabgrass from getting flooded from The Neighbors but now I'm saying it's that other one or both in the Dallas grass and the crab grass but that Nimble will business showed up in my God it travels better than my 500 horsepower truck any ideas besides going out there and killing the whole yard and starting over
My yard is filled with these weeds! Going to give Tenacity a shot this year then seed with either Rye or Fescue(Charlotte area). Worried I might have a bunch of dirt for a yard after killing it all off but hopefully the grass will succeed in the long term.
Look up the generic, mesotrione, it’s a bit cheaper!
Quinclorac and Tenacity are my two goto products. Now if I could just find something that will kick the crap outta my dang gone clovers (also in the Charlotte area).
@@donniereidjr Tzone works for me. I mix some baby shampoo 1 oz per gallon in a sprayer and hit it in the fall.
Charlotte Florida or South Carolina?
What can you use to spray for broadleaf in the summer. Also. Would you fertilize at all in the summer. My yard was almost perfect till about the 4th of July. Then the clover and goose grass and some wire grass Is getting bad. I have about 50000 sq feet in lawn. Thanks so much love your videoes. I’m in southern pa.
In case this goes unanswered here is my opinion. 24d in the summer for broadleaf, msm turf a close 2nd. If you have the water summer is the time to fertilize any grass. Especially after the 4th. I have been using pre emergents into late spring and summer to eliminate all those late summer weeds.
It depends on your truff type. Celsius is a good summer product to use since there isn't a temp restriction. Don't use 24D if you have st augustine.
When and how do these turn into stickers?
7:40 is that Johnson grass?
Whatever that last weed.....is taking over my st augustine. I tried pre emergent this winter but I must not have hit it correctly as it came back with vengeance. I also get nailed with the florida betony in winter and pusley in summer
Could MSM Turf control Carpetgrass? I ask because I eliminated all my Bahia grass several years ago with MSM turf, but my lawn has now been invaded by Carpetgrass, which is abundant in all the yards around me. Their seedheads are very similar and they both grow fairly tall. Thanks.
Syngenta Tenacity Herbicide or Torocity Turf Herbaide will get rid of all that within two weeks
Try MSMA Target 6+
I say replace all grass with clover or some other edible/useful ground cover. But that is just the opinion of a guy that doesn't plant anything that doesn't feed him.
I would say might as well do a whole garden at that point lol I don't eat clover. I do like the idea of full gardens in front yards, there's a bunch of RUclipsrs that do that.
Too bad I've got a black thumb lol
Coastal Signal Grass?
I'm not sure
Great video. Been trying to grow my RUclips channel. Anything you did special this past week to pack on 7k more subscribers!?
Sometimes a particular video does really well for one reason or another. That is a result of a video I had that got over 700,000 views in a short period of time
@@lawncarelife you’re definitely doing something right! I appreciate the content.
I feel like i have everything😅
Damnit I had Dallis grass all along. I hate that stuff
Crabgrass is hard invasive weed! Pull every (every, every, every) before you can see seed! But, Jason, you don't know how is big problem il lawn weed called "spoted spurge". Thats nightmare for remowing from lawn, because when yoy see one plant, you know there is thausand who starting. For some about 3 day, lawn is completely covered. Similar like crabgrass.
Semi gloss 😆
Spurge??? What weed control?
Changup, blindside, or celsius
Just cut them from the roots. Aka dig them out.
I enjoy weed pulling . Plus you throw the weed seeds away =less weeds. If you have to a weed twice waste time just pull um. Yeah it may disturb the soil and a few more weeds seeds may germinate but minors. Mowing weed seeds or spraying them is no bueno
Looks like crab grass
Thank You …a Woman on her Grind 😂
Marijuana Weed 😳 ROTFLMBO o-/-
