i dont think so. The grey jedi are not around basically because its near impossible to balance the light and the dark. Its much easier to just follow one or the other side. If their philosophy worked as much as they believed, they would be the dominant group, which they arent, atleast in canon
if anything grey Jedi masters (referring to those who followed the light but used the dark as a tool) are actually more powerful and more respectable than regular Jedi masters. This is due to the gray having more control and actually practicing the what the Jedi preach, balance. Also, being able to use both the light and the dark makes you more powerful than anyone who only uses one side
ANDY J. RODRIGUEZ yes, but just as you said, MASTERS. How many of the force users actually become or have potential to be masters? The rest of the grey jedi are just a bunch of unstable pseudo-jedi
***** it should be like if you are a jedi master, then you may start practicing the dark arts, but you have to notify the council in case they have to strike you down and if you become a gray jedi master youre above the regular jedi masters. and also under the tutalge of a gray jedi master jedi knights could become gray jedi knights, and as so would be above jedi knights but below jedi masters
Isn't that what Mace Windu did? His style of fighting used the dark side and he also chose to execute the chancellor instead of giving him a fair trial.
If we take the example of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, then it was the assholish behavior of the council + the Darth Sidious' bait that took Anakin to the Dark Side. He feared Padme's life and because of the stupid restrictions of the Jedi Order he went ahead got lured into the Dark Side, Anakin was a bit of a whiny dude but most of the fault goes to the Jedi Order itself, especially since they were the ones berating Anakin from the beginning. So, yeah if a person acknowledges the negative emotions and doesn't let it get it over its head, then its fine. But if the person is a royal asshole, then I can't say much
@@grimlord3181 they do not technically speaking since they aren't acknowledge. Ahsoka can be considered a Grey Jedi for instance, since she herself said that she isn't a Jedi
@@abhigyanbalodi2615 In the sense of being a Jedi who doesn't follow the Council then yes, she is a Grey Jedi. She's just not the kind that use the Dark Side at all.
Remi Recluse No they don't. Love can lead to just as much pain as it does joy. It's the passion that the Jedi should teach you to control when in love, not to completely abhor love. The Jedi, with their damnable sense of overcaution, would tell anyone that love is something to be avoided. When in reality, love is something that saves you, not condemn you. It saved Darth Vader as well as other Jedi before him from the Dark Side.
@@TacticoolMobius The beauty is that Obi Wan later tells Luke, that all the truths one clings to are only true from your own perspective... It shows his growth in understanding. Star wars always reminds me of polarization, how there's always two sides to everything, and both think they are right, but there's always a "Grey area".
The true jedi never work on ultimates. I believe that's what obi wan said in the prequel trilogy. Which is contradictory to the whole notion we are introduced about what the jedi council tried to impose. Its just bad writing don't try to go down the road of explaining it..
OwlQueen Animations Ah yes. Kudos. The writing is a bit convoluted don't you think? Papa Lucas messed key elements of the plot. For instance, i hope we never hear about the word "midichlorians" again :)
I would probably be a Grey Jedi as well. I'd never be a Sith, that's for sure. I don't like their philosophy and they're way too manipulative and murdery. I'd be a Grey Jedi or, failing that, a Jedi. Never a Sith.
+Alexandros Petrou I liked that they introduced Midichlorians. It gave some explanations. That Midichlorian bashing is outdated. Most fans now like it. And for your interest, Lucas described Midichlorians already when making Empire strikes back. So it was canon for decades. +Alexandros Petrou +OwlQueen Animations Contradictions in the Jedi code are no surprise. It evolved and changed over the time of millenia. The Jedi code is pretty much a religion. I don't know if you ever read the bible, it's full of contradictions.
Mitchell Bewick I belive the gray jedi are true jedi, because there will always be conflict between the light and the dark the only way to ever stop the conflict is to merge them and make the true force. That is the only wat the galaxy will ever find peace of we eradicate the light and the dark
NicoMajor101 I can assure you they both exist. The only thing you succeed in by being a grey Jedi is becoming apathetic. An existence without light or dark, without life or death... And in the words of Kreia, "So you will do nothing? Apathy is death, worse than death, because at least a rotting corpse feeds the beasts and insects." That being said, you aren't wrong. Both the Jedi and Sith are wrong. The real answer to saving the galaxy, to UNDERSTANDING the Force is so simple most can't see it... To bring balance to the Force, you must give it up.
LightAndDarkMdness02 Apathy is not the inevitable result of embracing both sides of the Force. Kreia was wrong. Balance is not about inaction but harmony; A dynamic (not static) but unstable equilibrium. This can also be seen in Nature as is mentioned in TLJ, which gave us an insightful, philosophical treatment of the Force, such as we haven't seen since TESB. Life & Death, Peace & Violence, Beauty & Ugliness, Cooperation & Competition. All these opposites, and many more, co-exist in Nature, hence they are all part of the Force.
She wasn't called a Gray Jedi though, at least not that I recall. She was just a former Jedi who still had all of her Jedi training and used it, but was not bound by the rules of the Jedi Order.
All of that EU stuff was a jumbled, often contradictory mess. I totally understand Disney flushing it. Now, all novels, comics, etc. are considered canon. Disney makes sure they all jive and don't conflict with other projects. That being said, I think Disney and Lucasfilm are very much aware of fandom love of Legend stuff. That's why Thrawn, who'd been thrown out of the canon, is now back in with the "Rebels" TV series. And he's getting a new novel which will be canon.
Je'daii The original Jedi. They used both the light and dark sides of the force in balance for good. They used Maddog steel force enhanced blades until the Darkside using Rakata attacked them using force sabres, these are similar to lightsabers but rely on the owner using the dark side of the force through an ebon crystal to work.
What if grey Jedi are the pure ones? This video assumes the light and dark sides are the norm, and grey Jedi are an impure blend of these dual polar extremes. But what if being calm, natural, accepting, centered, down to earth, rational and realistic, are the greater traits, and separate one from the dogmas of both Jedi and Sith?
In what of now lore the Gray Jedi are the few who are truly "one with the force" they are the balance. They are not light but they are but dark some of the most powerful force users were Gray. Qui Gon Jinn was a Gray Jedi
you were right with one thing. "This video assumes." There is no Grey. Being calm and natural is a light side mantra. Being connected to the universe is the ultimate Jedi goal.
The Jedi in the prequels are not pure Jedi but rather Qui gon was what a true Jedi is. There is no such thing as grey as it is impossible to balance the light and dark side of the force.
This is a very good explanation of the Grey Jedi. I hate it how many in the fandom seem to think that the Grey Jedi are some kind of Force ubermensch that can use both light and dark easily without any problems and are morally superior to everyone else.
I defiantly agree, many see the term "Grey Jedi" and think, wow a character in the middle! cool! In reality though that is just one aspect of what the term means. Grey Jedi is more of a generalization just like the term "Dark Jedi" in universe it basically means not a Jedi but not a dark sider. There are different orders that do practice the light and dark but as you said it's very difficult to do so. Grey Jedi is not actually an order just a name some developed to categorize certain people. I have seen a whole lot of people miss that fact.......
I dont really get why the "hate" ... If anything I hate how judgmental some Star Wars fans can be if another fan doesn't go with their perceived view of canon. If we look at Jedi who would consider themselves "grey" ... chief among these for me are Revan and the Exile, I wouldn't say that I totally agree with your statement but I can understand your perspective. The difference is the mindset. You are saying that you are either using the dark side or the lightside but for Revan it always felt like he was a good natured person who "used the Force". As Kyle Katarn said "force powers in and of themselves are not good or evil, its how they are used and the mindset behind them". Using Force Lightning doesn't have to condemn a persons soul to eternal damnation, the Jedi Order of the Clone Wars era were just too damn judgmental. Using the force for nefarious purposes will always draw a person onto the Dark Path, but using an ability that is considered "darker" for a noble purpose doesn't make you a Sith either. This is one of the chief reasons why I consider Lukes Jedi Order completely superior to the old one. Luke was smart enough to realize that one has to come to peace with the fact that they are sentient beings and thus flawed, and thus have a dark side. There is no escaping it. You can either accept it and learn to work with it, or deny it and forever be controlled by it.
It's funny, I think back to some stories, especially in the "Old Republic" video game. Some of those stories let you start out as a Sith, but make Light Side choices, while you don't actually become a Jedi or receive formal recognition is one. You're still a Sith, but embrace aspects of the light, or love which is frowned upon by both orders. Would that make one a "Grey Sith"? I wonder, how much one could find in the Sith code, but looking to other emotions beyond fear, anger and hate? Finding happiness, feeling good about helping others. Empathy, and the need to protect, yet also being mindful of those impulses and channeling them into one's forms. I dunno, this is just my musings, but would a "Grey Sith" be possible? Does it exist in the Lore? And moreover, is it strange I find that idea more fitting for myself than say a "Grey" or "Dark" Jedi? ...after all, I only remember the Jedi code with difficulty, while the Sith code I know by heart.
Did you actually read what I said? I never said I hate the Grey Jedi or that it is impossible to use both light and dark abilities. I said that I hate the fact that many in the fandom consider the Grey Jedi to be some kind of perfect Force user who can use both dark and light with no effort or problems, that every Force user should be like them and that it is possible for every Force user to be like that and that they, somehow, are morally superior to all other Force users. They want to paint the Grey Jedi as Mary Sues. On other news, I do agree that Luke's Jedi Order is better than the old one.
If you murder to 12 people that's bad. If you murder 3 people that's bad. You should murder 6 people, that is good. Virtue is in the middle. Person A: 2+2=8 Person B: 2+2=4 So the correct answer is 2+2=6. Statist: The initiation of force is virtuous. Anarchist: The initiation of force is immoral. So the correct answer is: some initiation of force is virtuous. yourlogicalfallacyis.com/middle-ground
"Arrogance is the camouflage of insecurity." - unknown And let's face it, the Jedi had become arrogant and worse, complacent. They wouldn't be that unless they were trying to cover up a flaw that they were aware of and genuinely did not know how to deal with it. And what people do not understand, they fear. So instead of dealing with it, they repress it and bury it, hoping it'll go away, much like how the Jedi Order built their Temple on top of a Sith Shrine(!) As we know now, neither approach worked out well for the Jedi. And all because they were afraid. 😒😠😤👎
@@SCUBA_Draconis “If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! A Grey Jedi said that. And I think he knows a little more about the force than you do, pal! Because he mastered it, & then he perfected it so no Sith or Jedi could best him in the ring of honor!”

in all reality, you can chose which stories are star wars to you. Even if Disney says a certain story is not part of it does not mean, we have to go along with it. Even though they may tell us it is not canon does not mean, that anyone has to stop using that term.
It's just a term people use for force users who are light but do not follow the Jedi. I do agree with you that you can choose what's Star Wars to you, just because it's not canon doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Disney has nothing to do with that, they merely own the right. Lucasfilm did it to make more original stories, They're the ones that work on the story, it was never Disney
What about Luke? From his trench run in NH to defeating Vader in ROTJ, he uses emotion as a tool. When Yoda says he will fall for the dark side if he doesn't complete his training, Luke leaves in order to save his friends(emotion and attactment). He even wears black in ROTJ. Luke defeats the Sith by showing mercy to Vader and not going all the way. In the end, Luke and Vader/Anakin bring balance to the force by being neither fully light or dark. Luke has a robotic hand and one biological hand, symbolizing both sides of force. I would say Vader doesn't become Anakin again until his mask is removed. So Luke is definitely a gray Jedi. I think Count Dooku is my favorite though, and I think he is a gray Jedi. If Obi-Wan had joined him or if Qui Gon hadn't died, episodes 3-6 would have never taken place.
@@grimlord3181 I know this thread is old, but I fell like adding to the conversation. Luke was a bit of a weird case when it comes to the force. While he was completely a light side force user he did allow and use emotion and rebuilt the order without a lot of the major issues of the past (at least pre Disney)
"There is no Light Without The Dark" "There is only the Force" "I will do what I must to keep the Balance" "The Balance is what keeps me together" "There is no good without the evil, but evil may not be allowed to flourish" "There is passion, Yet emotion" "Serenity, Yet Peace" "Chaos, Yet Order" "I am the wielder of the flame, The protector of balance" "I am the holder of the torch, Lighting the way" "I am the keeper of the flame, Soldier of Balance" "I am a guardian of balance" "I am a Grey Jedi.."
Well there can't be light without dark. The Jedi tend to think their way is the only way, I see the Grey Jedi as the ones that are truly one with the force since the force isn't in its raw form dark or light like magic the intent of its use is what gives it its color. As long as the intention is neutral I would say one can be balanced in both sides and not narrow viewed and minded as the light and dark can be.
The Stupendous Wave, would you consider star killer from legends continuity as a gray Jedi, since he didn't full conform to the dark side and the light?
Suggestion: What if Anakin was granted the rank of Master when put on the Jedi Council? Would he have a Padawan? Would Palpatine have revealed himself? Would Anakin have stayed good?
We technically the grey Jedi aren't wrong. I'd bet they're on the money. Life sucks without companionship and that's where the Jedi are wrong and in a sense are selfish because they won't allow relationships. But on the flip side the Sith are so imbued with hate and ambition that they kill all those they love. I'd say both are wrong and evil. Grey Jedi all the way.
+Vic Boss Gregor was a Republic Commando, and as such, had Katarn Armor, which was stronger than standard clone trooper armor. It could take more damage, increasing a commando's chances for survival. Also, we don't really see how close Gregor was to the explosion, so it stands to reason that if he was caught in the explosion, he was not caught in deep enough to die. However, given his mental state in Rebels, I think it's safe to say that the explosion still did a number on him, but not enough to damage his ability as a marksman.
Vic Boss Not much to know regarding Gregor after the incident on Abafar. All we know is: He survived. He made his way back to the Republic. At the end of the Clone Wars, he removed the chip in his brain (as did Rex and Wolffe). The three then ran off to Seelos where they lived in an old modified AT-TE. Either due to the Rhydonium explosion or because of something that went wrong with the chip removal, Gregor suffered from mental issues.
tybraker27 Plo force lightning is actually a trait amongst his species. When he did it the first time he was asked to never do it again. Plus his is yellow I think.
I agree, think of how surprised a sith would be if they saw a jedi use force lightning on them. It'd be a real psychological blow. It could even turn a sith away from the dark or a jedi from the light and create a third group with a large enough population to contend with the Sith and Jedi. Cool stuff
Jonathan Thörn Luke was not a grey Jedi, he merely reformed the existing order and opened a lot of restrictions that hampered the Jedi, including having family, occupations and posessions.
SantomPh I'd say he was a grey jedi. He never really went through with the whole padawan training (except for the Yoda part). He was just a good person who could wield the force. When Vader mentioned Leia, Luke went into a rampage and in so doing used the dark side, but he halted himself, not surrendering to that path. Henceforth he is a grey jedi (he's displayed on multiple occasions that he uses both sides of the force).
I think it's a cool idea to use both sides of the Force, it makes the most powerful Force user because you get the best of both worlds of you can control the darkness through self discipline
I came to understand the ‘light’ side as the intention to manifest the will of the force, whereas the ‘dark’ side the effort to channel it onto one’s aspirations. In that sense, the Jedi order did stray from the will of the force, being enforcers of the Republic. That also created dissonances within its members, with many straying off (e.g. Ashoka) and being called “gray”.
Okay, so the main difference between Jedi and Sith is that Jedi listen to the will of the force and follow it, and the Sith bend the force to their own will. But, how can the Jedi say that they follow the will of the force if the force itself has a light and a dark side, but they refuse to use the dark side?
Because they fear losing themselves to it. The Jedi do follow the will of the force, but do not allow themselves to be enslaved by it; like the Sith. I completely understand what you mean, and that is a damn good question.
But the one who follows the will of another is already a slave to him, and that doesn't have to be bad. If the force decides to manifest it's darkness more at a certain time they should follow that. Later, the force will manifest the light more and they will follow that, losing themselves to the force alone, not regarding the aspects of it.
But the thing is, no matter how the Force "manifests" itself in any given Era; there is always a presence of both sides. The Jedi have always thought of the Dark Side as being strictly evil (which it isn't) and the Light Side as strictly good (which it isn't); so they in turn always struggle to bring about the Light Side because it is what they perceive as being "Good" and therefore the "Will" of the Force as a whole. The way I see it, you can "Follow" something/someone's will without being it's/their slave; succumbing to something/someone's will is when you become it's/their slave.
Well then they "follow" their own perception of the force and not the will of the force itself which means that they too bend the force to their own will.
I would argue that the "dark side" is a perversion of the Force, driven and twisted by negative emotions. "Using the Dark Side" means to use the Force selfishly, actively ignoring it's will. So what I'm saying is, the Force never "wills" for anything Dark to happen, because it HAS no darkness in it, except for evil beings that put it there. Does that make sense?
"You are that which attacked the Jedi... you are Sith." "Sith is a title, yes, but like you, the title is not who I am. It is not what I believe." Atris & Kreia
My own views of being a Grey is through understanding and accepting of oneself. To know that at times you will be emotional, make mistakes, and that a part of you that you never knew was there can come out. To face these things, to accept them, and then understand them. So you may learn to control and deal with them when these times will come. This is how you may better yourself then those around you. Balance comes from understanding and acceptance of the unknown, of fear, of what's within.
What if Palpatine lost the election and never became Chancellor? What if Anakin was born female and was Anaka Skywalker? Where did Ahsoka get her new lightsabers in Rebels? What happened to Barriss Offee after she was caught and arrested?
Lol, not what I meant at all. He's male. What I meant was how would all the events have played out if he was born female instead? The only thing I assumed was her name would be Anaka.
maybe but you must have seen that others mistake childish anarchist whims as the acts of a gray jedi. I think true gray jedi are much harder to find than that.
There's nothing wrong with being an anarchist Grey Jedi. Qui-Gon Jinn and Luke Skywalker are both loyal to their own consciousness and ethical judgements, not obedient at all to the authority of any state or political group.
Qui Gon was loyal to the Jedi, that's why he was there. Even when they didn't listen to him he was humble enough to accept it. But Qui Gon was a confident and assertive person, and so was able to be true to his own values and the order he served. He was not an Individualist who shunned the needs of the group, or acted out rebelliously when he didn't get his way.
+Rykrai "But Qui Gon was a confident and assertive person, and so was able to be true to his own values and the order he served." That's exactly the point. He served the Jedi Council it was because he believed in the same ideals as they do, not because he believed in their authority. He would never put the needs of the Order or the Council above the needs of the galaxy. I think that's the most distinct feature of Qui-Gon's philosophy: The Council wants the Jedi to be loyal to the Order and the Council. Obi Wan values loyalty to his friends and allies. Qui-Gon does never act out of loyalty alone because he knows that loyalty is attachment - one that he accepts as inevitable but also tries to minimize. As an anarchist Qui-Gon refuses to force his will on others and refuses to let others force their will on him.
anarchist is not the same as individualist. True anarchist are anything but individualist, since too much individualism would destroy any anarchist society.
Anakin laid there limbless long enough for Obi Wan to leave and be gone long enough that he didn't bump into Palpatine on the way out. His survival duration is pretty good.
I agree with Olordrin. But I also think that if Anakin was saved by Obi-Wan that day, Anakin would return to the path of light, only to die because the dark side is no longer sustaining him. It's a coin toss really.
Debatable .His Master's dying wish was to train Anakin because he would bring balance to the force. Killing Anakin would be the polar opposite of that, while leaving him alive and crippled as he did would be about as grey an outcome as possible without violating the wishes of Qui-Gon, who had also communicated with Obi-Wan as a ghost and showed him that there was much going on beyond his understanding.
With light there is darkness With order there is chaos With knowledge there is ignorance With peace their is war With life there is deat Dark is a path as light is a path Jedi and sith must be balance Power is a gift Knowledge is a gift Grey is not balanced Balance is the true force
Agreed. One could even argue that internally, peace (the absence of conflict) is one thing a Grey Jedi lacked, due to the the need to maintain balance between two naturally conflicting sides.
So like the sith are drug addicts, the Jedi are like Christians who preach against any drug abuse, and the Gray Jedi are like those chill dudes that do lil bit of weed.
The Sith speed to get to their destination with no regard how badly they drive. The Jedi travel too slow, arriving at their destination often too late but are nice upon arrival. The Grey drive within the limits and have proper vehicle maintenance.
I think that it was a mistake not including Grey Jedi in the new Canon. Grey Jedi to me are one of the most interesting aspects of Star Wars, which is why Qui Gon and Ahsoka are two of my favourite characters. Out of interest, how would people like Galen Marek and Revan be described? Neither were Grey Jedi I think, but they were neither Sith nor Jedi, as they kept changing their allegiances. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this. I think if it were me, I would definitely be a Grey Jedi. I could never conform to the Jedi Code in its entirety. However, I could possibly be more of a Dark Side user as well. Great fun thinking about all this
If I was in this universe, had a strong connection to the Force and was choosing my way, I'd definetely be seeking ultimate power by being both invincible in a combat against any creature and cheating death at any age. This makes me close to Plagueis, except I'd focus on myself rather than others. For this very reason I wouldn't search for shortcuts and succumb to the dark side completely, or to even join siths who were most of the times greater menace to each other than the jedi were to them. I'd probably form my own group and doctrine, gather everyone who I deem loyal but have failsaves against them all the time. In it, fully and forever succumbing to any extreme of the light or the dark would be forbidden, and the ability of the apprenticies to return back to the balance after a temporary submersion into such extreme would be crucial for their value in it. As until everything is certain, there are no easy answers located at the extremes which can affect your judgement. Basically, this would be an ultimate form of jedi in a way that they seek absolute control, only my way would be providing even more control by teaching the user how to lose control temporarily, use extremes to your advantage, and then come back to balance and control. This would have been my quest pursued by all means necessary. Sith despise light, jedi despise darkness, ultimately limiting their perspective. Only in absolute flexibility, super-conductivity is there a way to absolute knowledge and power, and that's not a quick way.
for me, i think that having attachments can be risky but if you can control your feelings then you should be able to have them. families and close friends can help motivate in my opinion
The jedi mess up by forbidding the "dark" and scaring them about it being all consuming The sith mess up by forbidding the "light" and making people think self control will weaken them
I would like to either start or be apart of a Grey jedi order whom wields force imbued blades, the sword is such an awesome concept, they need to make this into film.
Both jedi and sith have their strengths and flaws, but the gray jedi embraces the strengths of both but aren't bogged down by either of their ideologies and were able to unlock their true potential, and thus achieving true balance
Mace Windu would be one too, wouldn’t he? As he was able to harness the dark side without falling to it. And it seems like Anakin, had he not fallen to the dark side completely, could’ve achieved balance in the Force by placing himself between light and dark. After the last movie, I’d say Rey is probably close to being something of a grey Jedi herself too. There’s dark in her, and she’s fully able to command and harness it, but she refuses to be consumed by it. Perhaps her new order will aim for balance? Neither exclusively light nor dark.
When it comes to timelines in Star Wars, I don't think of them as canon and legends. Instead, I simply see them as alternate realities without favoring one over the other.
I personally love and try to adhere to the grey Jedi code. But the main purpose of this message is to thank the creator of stupendous wave (I'm ashamed to admit I don't know your name) for uniting Star Wars fans, and on a more personal level giving me a reason to overcome my depression and anxiety. If I were a Jedi, I'd certainly be a Grey one. Things I am interested in, I'd dwell into. Light, Dark, are just different sides of the coin and both equal worth in studying. Period.
Jedi only use the light side of the Force. Grey Jedi mostly use the light side of the Force and use a little of the dark side of the Force. Dark Jedi mostly use the dark side of the Force and use a little of the light side of the Force. Sith Lords only use the dark side of the Force. I personally believe that the Grey Jedi are the ones who trully bring balance to the Force.
Excellent video! Recently did a breakdown of what makes an individual considered a Grey Jedi as well, citing examples from Legends and even New Canon! Hopefully they will be fully acknowledged soon, as it seems that's what Disney is subtly planning, from what we've all see so far.
I hope so. That way Kanan and Ezra could learn from him and become Grey Jedi or Je-daii or Force users like Ahsoka which will tie in to Yoda telling Luke that he is the last of the Jedi.
That's a good point, because there's so much ambiguity on what will happen to Ezra and Kanan during A New Hope. I feel like Ezra is trying to become a Grey Jedi like Ahsoka in season 3, partially because he doesn't want her death to be in vain and he believes it's the only way to understand the Sith and everyone who uses the Dark Side.
Anakin Skywalker yes, but it holds precedence for what your talking about. I would tell you why about i don't want to spoil anything for the end of season 2. Also the show is canon, just as much as the movies.
i feel the grey jedi are the most wise. knowing both light and dark. having both abilities. Ahsoka is the best example in my opinion as she used the light, and with her fight verses vader, used her emotions of sadness and anger (which are usually deemed "sith" ways).
In the first Star Wars role playing game I played a young person who received some training from a Jedi hiding from the Empire that died allowing the young one to flee when they were discovered. He was unruly and brooding and soon became a student to a dark side teacher. Quickly finding the darkside untenable. Forced by the need to survive he used both till he came to terms with the knowledge that while you do what you must it is how you do it that matters. At that point I called him a Grey Jedi. This was the late 80's. So I Love the concept! Jolie from Knights of the Old Republic was like this.
There are two types of grey Jedi First are Jedi who distance themselves from the council and operated outside the code ( qui gon Jin, Jolee bindo) Second are those who walk between the light and dark, without surrendering to the dark ( jensaarai, Voss mystics, imperial knights) Which one would you be?
love sneaky little pic of the N7 Fury Adept from Mass Effect at 1:50. I mean sure force users and biotic users are similar in a sense but they're from 2 different universes. slap a component from either universe to the other is like an overpowered plot twist waiting to happen.
This was a good explanation, thanks. Hopefully SW8 will bring depth to the force concept... keep up your good work, Stupendous Wave. Me and my son often listen to your sharings.
Anakin, during The Clone Wars, was definitely a Grey Jedi. Adhered to the Light, but sometimes used the Dark. Makes sense that Ashoka would be Grey as well. Myself, I would probably be Grey, or apart of another faction. I see value in both points of view. In fact, I think the balance of the Force was thrown out of balance, in part, by the Jedi gaining too much power over the thousand years when the Sith were in hiding.
Back in the days when i played the KOTOR games ( i may soon return to that on mobile ) i always played it a bit as a Grey Jedi , staying on the light side , but still using certain dark side powers when it was convenient to do so. Afterall, who does'nt love to use Force Lightning or Force Choke if given the opportunity eh ?
I never felt I would be a great Jedi because I have emotions and won’t deny myself them or attachments so I thought myself a Sith but didn’t feel I would follow their teachings as well so finding gray Jedi exist I would fall under that category they follow their own compass of what they feel is right and wrong
Back years ago (jesus christ, 2004) in an old D20 Star Wars game I played with friends, my Jedi Guardian being "gray" cause a great deal of conflict that was fun to play through. Pointing out that he was an emotionally stable adult and trained professional paid bigger dividends and made a more capable and stable Force User than an emotional eunuch cleaving fanatically to a code of peace based entirely on fear. The DM loved it. It was essentially a classic clash between eastern and western philosophies. By the end of the campaign he was Soldier 4/Commando 3/Jedi Guardian 11. I often used his background in "been there (far more often than he'd like), done that (enough that it's just annoying now) and has SO MANY t-shits" to no sell all the *give in to your anger* the Sith kept spouting. I miss that game. The pure hilarity was great.
Mace windu was technically a Grey Jedi aswell. He taught himself the powers of the dark side. He was powerful enough to keep it at bay. But took the knowledge from the dark side! Very powerful.
The only thing I think jedi were right about, was the concept of detachment, think about it, the less people/possessions you have, the less that can be used against you as emotional leverage and manipulation. It doesn't mean that you're still immune to the dark side, but even if you went from the light to the dark, it's a choice that only affects you, with no loved ones to hurt in the process. Attachment leads to jealousy, the shadow of greed, that is. It's better than making your problems other people's problems.
I would say the grey Jedi are those whom found balance in the force but lean towards the light, and grey Sith whom also found balance but lean towards the darkness. The grey side of the force is letting all of your emotions flow, unlike the Jedi; but not letting them consume you, unlike the sith. The grey are individuals not an order. They forge their own paths because to them their is no only light or dark, Jedi or Sith. To them, there is only the force.
Darth Vader at the end of RotJ. Most people say he went to the Light, but he doesn't have compassion for all life, he is just overwhelmed with so much love for his son that he is willing to do anything for him. Selfless love, which seems to sway to the Light, but attachment, which seems to sway to the Dark, would seem to be Gray.
@Mr. Mudhoney There aren't really any Light Sith besides Darth Vader and someone who we had a third hand source for. There are tons of Grey Jedi in Legends. Grey Jedi is the name for a neutral Force user.
there's no guarantee of that, Grey Jedi get closer to the dark side than jedi, so there's greater temptation of the dark side. During the fel empire for example, the emperor was a grey jedi and fell to the dark side and had to be killed.
Healing may be a jedi thing but I'd bet 100 credits that none of them would even try once they learned she would die in childbirth to Anakin's kids and that he had seen this in a vision. Either one and they would say it was the fill of the force for a. anakin breaking the rules of the order and b. he was shown so he could prepare. The Jedi are kind of assholes.
TheDark4light he is also kind of a moron since why would he not seek knowledge of what the jedi can and cant do when he was told healing isnt something a jedi can do sure he said save, but still healing would be the first thing that came to my mind after that vision
I have always loved the idea of a Gray Jedi, in my own opinion I would say that had he not been on the Jedi Counsel, Mace Windu would be considered a Gray Jedi. Using both light and dark, willingly killing his foes, he is the epitome of Gray Jedi to me.
Sith: Dark side is the best
Jedi: Light side is the best
Gray jedi: force is force
Force is FORCE! Why would they change the FORCE?!?!
Sith: The Dark side is stronger!
Jedi: The dark side is for the weak!
The Grey Jedi: *FORCE IS FORCE*
If someone could use both sides of the force without it corrupting them then the ideology of sith and Jedi would be obsolete
Force is force! Use what you want! Force same force!
@Navid Soleimani they don’t have anything because they’re not canon
The Grey Jedi are basically what the Jedi should had been all along.
The Sith would had likely gone extinct then
i dont think so.
Grey jedi are proof that acknowledging negative emotions don't turn you to the dark side. Being an asshole turns you to the dark side.
But if the person is a royal asshole, then I can't say much
Except the Grey Jedi don't exist.
Jedi logic: "Only Sith deals in absolutes! Btw never ever touch the dark side!"
"There is no peace, only passion."
"Wait, isn't that an absolute?"
Chops off head with lightsaber.
"Only the Sith deal in absolutes"
"Only"
The line itself is an absolute statement. That is the greatness of the prequels.
Yeah and Sith logic is to slaughter and enslave innoncent people, I chose the Jedi, 100 times better than the Sith
The phrase itself "only sith deal in absolutes" is painfully unaware
I'd definitely be a grey jedi. The sith are a bit too... murdery for my taste and I don't agree with the Jedi code and some of their philosophies
The true jedi never work on ultimates. I believe that's what obi wan said in the prequel trilogy. Which is contradictory to the whole notion we are introduced about what the jedi council tried to impose. Its just bad writing don't try to go down the road of explaining it..
Alexandros Petrou actually, the line was "ONLY the SITH deal in absolutes", which is even funnier because that in itself falls under that category lol
+Alexandros Petrou
I liked that they introduced Midichlorians. It gave some explanations. That Midichlorian bashing is outdated. Most fans now like it. And for your interest, Lucas described Midichlorians already when making Empire strikes back. So it was canon for decades.
+Alexandros Petrou +OwlQueen Animations
Contradictions in the Jedi code are no surprise. It evolved and changed over the time of millenia. The Jedi code is pretty much a religion. I don't know if you ever read the bible, it's full of contradictions.
I think the "Grey" Jedi are closer to the first Je'daii. They found balance between the light and dark sides of the force.
More like that was their goal of true balance, this is why the Jedi only take little children as students, they are easier to brainwash.
They took them as children because they weren't as attached to family which leads to the darkside.
Pingas Pearce Which is the easy way, avoiding the dark side not facing it.
Mitchell Bewick I belive the gray jedi are true jedi, because there will always be conflict between the light and the dark the only way to ever stop the conflict is to merge them and make the true force. That is the only wat the galaxy will ever find peace of we eradicate the light and the dark
Airnicco More like readicating the line Jedi and Sith have made. The one that seperates light and dark.
There is no light, there is no dark, there is the force.
*there is ONLY the force
The Farce is strong in this one.
lmao
NicoMajor101
I can assure you they both exist. The only thing you succeed in by being a grey Jedi is becoming apathetic. An existence without light or dark, without life or death...
And in the words of Kreia, "So you will do nothing? Apathy is death, worse than death, because at least a rotting corpse feeds the beasts and insects."
That being said, you aren't wrong.
*finds out Grey Jedi has been removed in Disney Canon*
*anger towards Disney Canon increases*
they replaced/rename them as "Bendu".
+Conrado Javier
I thought "Bendu" was just one person.
Bendu is the Grey version of Ashla or Bogan.
Plus, grey Jedi are still canon, with Ahsoka.
Je'daii
The original Jedi. They used both the light and dark sides of the force in balance for good.
They used Maddog steel force enhanced blades until the Darkside using Rakata attacked them using force sabres, these are similar to lightsabers but rely on the owner using the dark side of the force through an ebon crystal to work.
@ The book has a Disney trademark on it...
The Je'daii and the Gree are mentioned in the Clone Wars...
LazarusRemains they are
kylo and ren are supposed to merge
Grey jedi are the correct ones
Kotor shows how you can be a grey jEDI by still being a Jedi but being able to use dark side abilities
in life you need balance between light and dark i would be grey jedi
agre grey jedi is the best jedi

ironic ain't it.
Jedi do not fear the dark side. They are weary of it & condemn it, but they do not fear it.

"Arrogance is the camouflage of insecurity." - unknown
And let's face it, the Jedi had become arrogant and worse, complacent. 😒😠😤👎
Jedi and Sith are flawed as hell.

Just because the term Grey Jedi is no longer canon doesn't mean we can't use it
in all reality, you can chose which stories are star wars to you.
What do you mean no longer canon? What about Jolee Bindo or Bastila Shan who later took on a grey way of thinking when Revan left for Unknown Regions?
Dennis Taylor if you asked Disney, they would laugh in your face, and tell you they put that into what is known, as "Legends".
I know this was 4 years ago, but that is false. Luke was a true Light Side Jedi who rejected the Dark Side, and convinced Vader to do so as well.
@@grimlord3181 I know this thread is old, but I fell like adding to the conversation. Luke was a bit of a weird case when it comes to the force.

How did clone commando Gregor survive?
Plot armour...
Very powerful armour that is haha
+Vic Boss Gregor was a Republic Commando, and as such, had Katarn Armor, which was stronger than standard clone trooper armor. It could take more damage, increasing a commando's chances for survival. Also, we don't really see how close Gregor was to the explosion, so it stands to reason that if he was caught in the explosion, he was not caught in deep enough to die. However, given his mental state in Rebels, I think it's safe to say that the explosion still did a number on him, but not enough to damage his ability as a marksman.
But i wanted to know what happened to him after the explosion and such.
Vic Boss
Not much to know regarding Gregor after the incident on Abafar.

I agree, think of how surprised a sith would be if they saw a jedi use force lightning on them. It'd be a real psychological blow. It could even turn a sith away from the dark or a jedi from the light and create a third group with a large enough population to contend with the Sith and Jedi. Cool stuff
Anthony Howell Luke could use force lightning and he was a full Jedi
Luke was a Grey Jedi.
A grey Jedi since in a way it works a lot like Yin and Yang a delicate balance of good and evil
I think it's a cool idea to use both sides of the Force, it makes the most powerful Force user because you get the best of both worlds of you can control the darkness through self discipline
Well done grasshopper
I would want to be a force using bounty hunter with a light saber
you want to be cade skywalker
Let me guess, you forgot to mention using deathsticks?
I think I will go home and rethink my life.

"You are that which attacked the Jedi... you are Sith."
"Sith is a title, yes, but like you, the title is not who I am.
Grey Jedi. Emotions are what make us human and attachments, when healthy, are what keep us centered.
What if Palpatine lost the election and never became Chancellor?
What if Anakin was born female and was Anaka Skywalker?
Where did Ahsoka get her new lightsabers in Rebels?
What happened to Barriss Offee after she was caught and arrested?
go on 'Fact Free', RUclips channel, and it will tell you what happened to Barriss Offee
if anakin was born a girl, the same thing still would have happened to him/her. gender doesn't make a difference...
except he wouldnt have children with padme...
Lol, not what I meant at all. He's male. What I meant was how would all the events have played out if he was born female instead? The only thing I assumed was her name would be Anaka.
Lostme Marbles its a joke dude :P
I think most people would be Grey Jedi just because of the Jedi belief in no attatchments
maybe but you must have seen that others mistake childish anarchist whims as the acts of a gray jedi.
+Rykrai
"But Qui Gon was a confident and assertive person, and so was able to be true to his own values and the order he served."
That's exactly the point.
What if Obi Wan took anakin instead of leaving him on Mustafar
omg i would love to know... i hope he sees this question!
Then anakin probably would have come back from the dark side as Obi Wan's "betrayal" was what pushed him over the edge
Thanos would be proud.. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Lol😂
With light there is darkness
With order there is chaos
With knowledge there is ignorance
With peace their is war
With life there is deat
Dark is a path as light is a path
Jedi and sith must be balance
Power is a gift
Knowledge is a gift
Grey is not balanced
Balance is the true force
Captain Foxy I feel like I've heard this before...
...Or maby I'm just crazy
This man is a grey grey jedi the most balanced boy in the universe
This is all contradictory.
Grey jedi is peace. Jedi and Sith are division and conflict.
Grey Jedi represent balance. Not peace. Peace and chaos are opposite ends of the spectrum.
Agreed. One could even argue that internally, peace (the absence of conflict) is one thing a Grey Jedi lacked, due to the the need to maintain balance between two naturally conflicting sides.
aeris44 Order, not peace.
"We are not light , whe are not dark, we are the force , may it unite us again
So like the sith are drug addicts, the Jedi are like Christians who preach against any drug abuse, and the Gray Jedi are like those chill dudes that do lil bit of weed.
Whistletone Basically🤔 yeah I'm definitely grey
Then what’s a dark jedi?
Avalon so people who deal drugs but don't consume it themselves.
Guess we're grays after all
Gerardo Jasso A sith
Unlike certain other channels, you seem to have actually grasped how Gray Jedi work.
The Sith speed to get to their destination with no regard how badly they drive.
The Jedi travel too slow, arriving at their destination often too late but are nice upon arrival.
The Grey drive within the limits and have proper vehicle maintenance.
you should do one for all the force traditions out there
Will do! See you in 3 years..................
I don't get it
lol there are a LOT of traditions
Great fun thinking about all this
Kyle Walton I would love for those two to be cannon.
They are dark Jedi.
The jedi mess up by forbidding the "dark" and scaring them about it being all consuming
The sith mess up by forbidding the "light" and making people think self control will weaken them
What if Padme had normal clothes?
normal hairstyle
What if Ahsoka didn't dress like a slut in season 1
What do you mean how? All she wore was the short skirt, leggings and a bra.
wow, how surprising, a stupid Yoda
+Roudy Relicanth she wore a tube top, that's the stereotypical high school slut outfit.
YES!
hi geekdom 😃
Ikr
It's nice seeing a comment from you man
good 2 see you!
I already knew a *little* about grey jedi and after watching this video I'd definitely want to be a grey jedi.
Not in Lucas canon.
If Anakin wasn't aloud to become a master why did he have a Padawan (ahsoka) in clone wars (attack of the clones-revenge of the sith.)
Jedi knights were granted Padawans
When it comes to timelines in Star Wars, I don't think of them as canon and legends. Instead, I simply see them as alternate realities without favoring one over the other.
I personally love and try to adhere to the grey Jedi code. But the main purpose of this message is to thank the creator of stupendous wave (I'm ashamed to admit I don't know your name) for uniting Star Wars fans, and on a more personal level giving me a reason to overcome my depression and anxiety. I think about Star Wars all the time and the fact that you devote your time and energy into creating these amazing videos helps me so much and is a credit to you. May the force be with you, mate.
"There is no good or evil force powers, just force powers more volatile than others"~Kyle Katarn
Grey Jedi all the way!
I would be a Grey Jedi. My motto would be " Peace with Victory".
Pretty sure that's the Sith motto hahaha, 'If everyone let me kill them it would be very peaceful!'
That sounds pretty sith mate
@@ddandymann I can see sith being a replacement for ‘metal’ in the Star Wars universe.
Just like
‘dude, you got a red lightsaber because your kyber crystals are bleeding’
‘Whoa That’s pretty sith’
@@ddandymann Well it depends thru what context you make of it. See, I have a motto, I don't shit were I eat! Other words, I don't bring Trouble and drama to my house. So if someone does start shit, I'm going to squash it hence Peace thru victory
That is a Sith.
If I were a Jedi, I'd certainly be a Grey one.
Things I am interested in, I'd dwell into. Light, Dark, are just different sides of the coin and both equal worth in studying.
Period.
I would love to see a Star Wars movie where the main villain is a dude who uses light side abilities to do bad things.
I like the gray Jedi because I feel like they are the ones who achieve true balance in the force.
Do a video on Grey Paladins.
(force users with blasters instead of lightsabers)
Jedi only use the light side of the Force.
Grey Jedi mostly use the light side of the Force and use a little of the dark side of the Force.
Dark Jedi mostly use the dark side of the Force and use a little of the light side of the Force.
Sith Lords only use the dark side of the Force.
I personally believe that the Grey Jedi are the ones who trully bring balance to the Force.
Can you explain what happened to all the lightsabers when the Jedi got killed in order 66?
i believe most of them were locked away in the vaults inside the jedi temple until they were destroyed.
Rounded up and disposed of if I am not mistaken, with a small few making their way into hands of collectors.
Ok, thanks for clarifying this everyone :)
I believe that the Grey Jedi are true Jedi because they know and understand both the light and dark sides of the force
Excellent video! Recently did a breakdown of what makes an individual considered a Grey Jedi as well, citing examples from Legends and even New Canon! Hopefully they will be fully acknowledged soon, as it seems that's what Disney is subtly planning, from what we've all see so far.
Is it possible bindu is the new cannon version of a grey jedi
we'll find out soon
I feel like Ezra is trying to become a Grey Jedi like Ahsoka in season 3, partially because he doesn't want her death to be in vain and he believes it's the only way to understand the Sith and everyone who uses the Dark Side.
when does it start?
+fuckthe33rd it already did.
I hope Ahsoka Tano is brought into episode 8 as a grey Jedi who joins up with Luke and Rey with Ahsoka later taking Finn as her Padawan
That would be cool though she would be older than Luke by now by like 13ish years
Depends who plays her also has Ahsoka already been in a Star Wars movie
you haven't watched Star Wars rebels have you?
Yeah but that's a TV show not a movie
There are two types of grey Jedi
First are Jedi who distance themselves from the council and operated outside the code ( qui gon Jin, Jolee bindo)
Second are those who walk between the light and dark, without surrendering to the dark ( jensaarai, Voss mystics, imperial knights)
Which one would you be?
Grey Jedi all day!
Hey "The Stupendous Wave" could you maybe put in some background music, that could give the videos more...
atmosphere;)
Balance see
Light = way to many rules and myths and other bs
Dark = a bit over the top
Grey is balanced
That's the way of the Jedi, not the Light.
love sneaky little pic of the N7 Fury Adept from Mass Effect at 1:50.
Grey Jedi all the way
will there be another 'what if...' episode soon?
I will say I am 300 words into the next one:)
Can't wait, thanks for letting me know
what if there was a new what if episode
I'd totally be a gray Jedi. Honestly it seems like the "normal" route and doesn't hold you to impossible standards.
You can't be.
I'd be a Grey Jedi rocking the Jedi mod phase 2 clone armor
I never felt I would be a great Jedi because I have emotions and won’t deny myself them or attachments so I thought myself a Sith but didn’t feel I would follow their teachings as well so finding gray Jedi exist I would fall under that category they follow their own compass of what they feel is right and wrong
disney removed starkiller and grey jedi, what will be next THE ENTIRE OT
No, Ahsoka is Gray Jedi in rebels
Disney did WHAT?!
They didn't remove grey Jedi. Grey Jedi is something that a neckbeard reddit user made up.
“So if I smoke a lot of weed I will turn into a grey Jedi and then know de way ?”
Smoke weed everyday!
The Grey Jedi also believe in love and that nobody has to be a certain age to be a Jedi, that’s why I’m a Grey Jedi.
No you're not.
@@grimlord3181
@@BadEconomyOfficial What are you talking about?
@@grimlord3181 Basically you stated I wasn’t a Grey Jedi, you’re being PC by simply saying I’m not a Grey Jedi.
@@BadEconomyOfficial Those are two completely unrelated things.
It's better than making your problems other people's problems.
but life without attachments and strong personal relationships is so empty. and the right kind of love doesn't lead to jealousy or greed.
Hey. I know it’s late, but I hope you’re doing ok.
1:50 - 2:10, is the definition of True Neutrality.
Out of curiosity, do we see anything like a gray sith?
Venser's Prodigy the closest to that in my opinion would be Revan
Count Dooku?
Darth Vader at the end of RotJ. Most people say he went to the Light, but he doesn't have compassion for all life, he is just overwhelmed with so much love for his son that he is willing to do anything for him. Selfless love, which seems to sway to the Light, but attachment, which seems to sway to the Dark, would seem to be Gray.
@Mr. Mudhoney There aren't really any Light Sith besides Darth Vader and someone who we had a third hand source for. There are tons of Grey Jedi in Legends. Grey Jedi is the name for a neutral Force user.
if anakin was a grey jedi instead of a regular jedi he wouldn't went to the dark side ....and become Darth Vader. ..
there's no guarantee of that, Grey Jedi get closer to the dark side than jedi, so there's greater temptation of the dark side. During the fel empire for example, the emperor was a grey jedi and fell to the dark side and had to be killed.
Renujan Kanagaratnam if he had asked around he would have learned that healing others is a jedi thing...so more ways he could have not become vader
TheDark4light he is also kind of a moron since why would he not seek knowledge of what the jedi can and cant do when he was told healing isnt something a jedi can do
sure he said save, but still healing would be the first thing that came to my mind after that vision
what i learned from this video: the new canon is shit
You just learned that now?
Dylan Hallila not really but now was a good time to post this
Old Canon has also shit.
al112v5 shit, shit everywhere
Not as much as canon.
I have always loved the idea of a Gray Jedi, in my own opinion I would say that had he not been on the Jedi Counsel, Mace Windu would be considered a Gray Jedi. Using both light and dark, willingly killing his foes, he is the epitome of Gray Jedi to me.
“We are Wardens! One and all! Fight's for justice, shield's for vengeance! Crush our enemies! One and all!”
