Brian Westbrook was my hero as a young kid growing up in Hanover, Pennsylvania. I was born in Philly but my family moved towards the tail-end of the 90's; I still missed the city so bad, and the Eagles became my link to it. Youthful memories of Donovan throwing total worm-burners to Fred Ex lol. Feels like a thousand years ago. If only I knew what the future held...
For the Giants this was just one of the many games that got away from them. The rematch in Philly a few weeks later would be the definitive downfall for the Giants' season.
Just looking at the sidelines and seeing the plethora of Eagles assistants and coordinators that would go on to be head coaches themselves. Reid's coaching tree is legendary.
I remember this game...B. West totally saved the season with that punt return...The momentum of this win took us back to the NFC championship - (even if we laid an egg against the Panthers that year...smh). I'm still amazed at how many classics the Eagles have had in the Meadowlands against the Giants. This is what rivalries are all about. #NFCEast
I mean, we lost Westbrook for the rest of the season before the playoffs even started. I think maybe the final game or second to last game. And then panthers hit McNabb on the ground after he was already down and broke his ribs I believe and knocked him out of the title game in the first half.
These were my first days as a Philadelphia Eagles fan. I came from Puerto Rico and moved to READING, PENNSYLVANIA, till this day. I became an Eagles fan in 2002. I was born into a Buffalo Bills team family, but when i actually sat down by my own to watch football, i believe it was a EAGLES VS STEELERS game that day, from there on I've been a #1 fan of the EAGLES. GO BIRDS!!!!!!.🔥🔥💪💪🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
..who underrated him?! O.o "Top Ten Eagles RB in History" #2. Brian Westbrook. •2nd Best Rusher in Eagles History. •2nd best receiving back in his era (behind M. Faulk) •Held/holds single season reception record (90) and wasn't even a receiver. •Was noted to have the potential to be one of the greatest RB in history if injuries didn't cut his career short. In nearly 1,400 carries he only had three fumbles and all were on solid strips/hits. Underrated?
That game, specifically Westbrook's punt return, broke Jim Fassel. Fassel was already pretty much toast from being robbed of the Super Bowl. But this one was like a last kick in the crotch. He was going to be 3-3 and recover from the Super Bowl disaster with the win against the Eagles. Instead they were 2-4 and would win only two more of the season's remaining 10 games and then get fired and then divorced from the love of his life. You can see it on his face at the end of this game. That sinking feeling face. Fassel returned to coaching with the UFL many years later but really he was never the same.
I had just gotten to my hotel room in New York and I turned the TV on right before Westbrook's punt return. My buddy was in the room next to mine and I hear him screaming, I'm screaming, he runs over and bangs on the door and we're screaming in the hallway. The New Yorkers were not happy. Fuck em.
The 6th game of the season and NEITHER of the wide receivers had caught a SINGLE TD pass.... Reid cost the Eagles at least 2-3 seasons by not getting any good receivers for McNabb. Inexcusable. He finally relented and got Owens the year after this and low and behold they went to the Superbowl and McNabb had a career year!
I was at this game in the stands, probably no more than 20 yards from where Westbrook received the punt. The Eagles had done nothing....and I mean nothing...all game. Still can't believe they won that day, but I'll take it.
Same here. I was sitting in the opposite end zone with my buddy so he was running toward us. After he scored we just looked at each other like we stole something. BWest is my favorite player of all time.
Once again Eagle fans too myopic to understand this fluke win got Jim Fassel fired and helped get the Giants Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin where they would keep the Eagles out of playoffs in both years of their 2 Super Bowls.

nice. i grew up in york pa, westbrook is my personal fav. taking a trip down memory lane.
18:37 This punt return TD saved the Eagles season in a BIG way
2-4 might have been too deep a hole for the Eagles to dig out of.
For the Giants this was just one of the many games that got away from them. The rematch in Philly a few weeks later would be the definitive downfall for the Giants' season.
It's mind boggling how often the Giants have lost to the Eagles in stupid fashion
@@chrisuncleahmad789 considering they won the next 9, probs not tho
Yes, indeed, if you remember, it was the turn around for both teams, it favor the Eagles.
Just looking at the sidelines and seeing the plethora of Eagles assistants and coordinators that would go on to be head coaches themselves. Reid's coaching tree is legendary.
Just seven years later, the Eagles would return another punt for a TD against the NY Giants at the Meadowlands.
And the Giants would win the Super Bowl a year later after the Giants forced ANOTHER key fumble in the NFC Championship Game vs the 9ers 😂😂
Chris Collinsworth couldn't hide his disgust after the Westbrook TD 😂
Giants special teams under Fassel had been very shaky, so he had a point
@jnix7483I believe Chris and Aikman are both on the call but that was definitely Chris who was the most irate about it.
I’ve always like Troy, never have like Collinsworth such an obvious eagles hater

Saquon Barkley reminds me of Westbrook so much. I just hope he produces like Westbrook did. 🤞🏻
I love Westbrook, but saquon is shitting on anything Westbrook ever did in a season. Other than 90 catches I guess.
Westbrook was very underrated
He was the ideal Andy Reid RB: a small yet shifty runner who was an even better pass-catcher and who could also be a returner
..who underrated him?! O.o

@@midnytemassacrethank you for that

The SB was in 2000...they had lost to the niners the year before blowing a 24 point lead
Thanks ✨️🙏

I remember watching this game. It was such a boring, uneventful game. Then came the Eagles’ second miracle at the meadowlands!
Collinsworth HATES THE EAGLES
2-4 might have been too deep a hole for the Eagles to dig out of.
The “Other” Other Miracle at The Meadowlands…
4th: 1978, 1988, 2003 and 2010.
Surely the Giants will learn from this and punt the ball out of bounds in similar situations moving forward

Brian Westbrook from....... VILLANOVA!
Eagles won 9 straight after this game
Brook saved the season
What a god awful punt though. Forget kicking it out of bounds, just kick it into the end zone. That ball didn't even make it to the 20.
Here’s another miraculous fourth quarter comeback victory by the Eagles over the Giants, Eagles fans. 😂
This was interesting....................
Ok but why is the quality of the video male this look like its the 80s
TOUCHDOWN EAGLES! NO FLAGS DOWN!
McNabb was unwatchable garbage in this game,
Romans 13:10

this fucking team and the turnovers
The worst WR group in nfl history. Or at least it felt like it.

I was at this game. One of the worst offensive performances I've seen by the Eagles in the Reid/McNabb era. But they won. That's what matters.
