I incorrectly called where the spur gear mounts a slipper clutch. That came from watching an older Traxxas video showing this spur gear change for the 6S Xmaxx. This 8s Xmaxx has the cush drive, so there is no slipper clutch...
Just did this. Ran great for about 30min, then shredded the spur and pinion gear DUE TO THE PIN SYSTEM. Pin system is too tight with this ratio. Ditch the pin system, and use a piece of paper to measure and space the gears. GREAT VIDEO!!
Yeh just lights out fantastic instructional video. Showing everything on the truck unlike the guys who show more of themselves in these types of videos was key. Thank you
You don’t grease them gears as that attracts sand and dirt into the gears trust me if you run in sand it will stick to it and grind them up. The covers on them don’t keep dirt out that’s why you don’t tease them. Only greases the other gears like front rear centre diffs
This gave me some confidence. Just done mine and thought the mesh was awful, but it turns out it’s the motor magnet making it feel bad, yours looks the same, so I gave it’s a wheels off spin up and all seems fine Thanks for the video.
I currently have the 24mm hex w hatchet x wheels. Bigger than stock. Of I want to put the 46s w the 18t pinion that's on it. Probably need the smaller wheels back on her correct? Thank you for the great vid.
Cool vids! What about installing a 15t or 16t pinion with the 54t spur to pick up speed and would I lose acceleration on that gearing install? Reason havent found any videos about 16t pinion and 54t spur online or youtube, proably make good video or it's not possible to do that configuration. Thx not sure but asking!
I did this and im still having problems with the gear slipin at low power and catching when the motor speeds up is that something I have to worry about
Would this optional gesr be as bad as traxxas mention.on the instructions of it destroying rhe electronics if used for offfrading and bashing? Is thwre a safet gear or pinion to get to get a faster truck eithout having to get a better ecu or anything and atil lwould be able to run smoothly and faster with them? Thz
Thanks for the video. Do you recommend adding loctite to anything? Also I have heard to not grease the pinion and spur. After doing it is it a good idea?
Well Sam, I’ve watched this video again - to actually follow it as I just got an X-Maxx 😊😊👍👍 Thanks again - so easy to follow - the job was a breeze - check out our unboxing vid - my lad’s reaction to this beast is really funny 👍 Best regard Pete
What does this do? I only run my Xmaxx on Tall grass, dirt, off-roading etc. Will this give me any benefit if I switch it? So far the stock is perfect for me. Just curious is this has any advantage
I love the vid, man! Good, clean how to. I looked up your video,, because I KNEW you would give clear instructions. You're a bit too meticulous for an Xmaxx though! More like aircraft meticulous! Haha just kidding, thank you for the content, my friend!
Thanks. I suppose higher gearing means less torque. What I avoid is landing with throttle on. I think that's the number one gear stripper. Regardless of gear ratio, that sudden stop under power is a gear killer. With no throttle you're only stopping freewheeling tires and gear train...
@@chilly7261 True. I fly rc helis and if you crash your heli under power you strip gears. If you hit throttle hold before you crash your gears will be fine. Its the same with this truck also.
That's fine. Set the truck up based on your driving style. It won't do a backflip, so that doesn't work for me. Be awesome off road in some rough terrain...
For me, I need more wheel speed for backflips. Also the advertised 50mph is with the included optional spur gear. It will do 40-43mph out of the box...

Followed this video to install my high speed gearing. Way to right blew my gear apart in no time
Me too!
Two test runs and boom 🤥
Don’t grease like in the video.
Same thing happened to me today

Thanks a lot for the veidoe. There no video covering the topic and showing installation of gear

I went for 20T/50T metal gears instead.
