If the Toyota dealer price gouging sticks around, the GX-550 Overtrail is going to be the best value by far. Most of the Lexus dealers in my area are selling at MSRP. If you purchase the Land Cruiser, and pay the premium, you can easily reach the base price of the GX and you will never recover that extra cost in resale. The GX also offers a bigger engine, nicer interior, bigger screen, bigger tires, eKDSS and Lexus is number 1 in the new J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study. I put down a deposit for the GX 550 very early on and my dealer says that I should be able to take possession by late May or early June. In my opinion I'm getting a better vehicle and a better value than the Toyota offerings.
Plus you can act all snooty when you park it next to vehicles the riff-raff tend to buy.
I think “at MSRP” is relatively high right now. I agree with your take.
I agree. For the difference in price between the Cruiser and the GX, The GX is a much better value. Plus it looks badass. Congrats on your purchase. Lexus nailed it with the new GX!
Agree. I thought the 1958 was going to be the hot ticket, but after looking at what it comes with, I would want to step up to the Land Cruiser trim, which is really not that much cheaper than the base Overtrail with the sunroof delete.
But if you tell everyone then the price will go up! Then the rest of us who know the truth will have to pay higher rates. Save the hidden gyms!
Land Cruiser really should have had the V6TT from the GX. Doesn't distinguish itself from the 4runner enough.
Then why not just get a GX?
It’s distinguished because Landcruiser offers 2.4 hybrid turbo standard where 4Runner will be 2.4 turbo with optional 2.4 turbo hybrid.
@palmero8877 GX is more luxurious. That was always the selling point. Same as the Land Cruiser vs LX. Plenty of people still bought the LX. They didn't have different powertrains.
Why not both? A 4-cyl T for the base LC and a V6-T for the top-dog version.
Toyota should rethink the Sequoia as it seems to be left out in terms of value & competitiveness.
@@CarnutMM Landcruiser is not a 2.7, it's a 2.4 Hybrid.
@@House_of_Schmidtplenty is a strong word when you consider how few they made
I sure hope the new 4Runner looks better than these pics…it shouldn’t look like a crossover, but an SUV.
While it would get the same powertrain as the Tacoma, the next 4Runner may instead be mostly related to the bigger Land Cruiser 250 though hints of both the new Tacoma and the TNGA-F-based next-gen Hilux for the rest of the world. Kiss both the Fortuner/SW4 as well as the IMV platform itself goodbye.
that first photo looks nice!!
thoughts on the 4runner now that it has come out?
@@arkabasak5399 I like it overall. A good step forward. I do wish it had a v6 hybrid option though.
@@roberthoyt7921is IMV platform confirmed to be replaced?
Take the Tacoma pricing and add $5K and you're in the ballpark of the new 4Runner pricing. Makes a fully loaded TRD Offroad no hybrid about $60K. There's going to be alot of overlap with Landcruiser pricing once you get into the hybrid and special packages like TRD Pro.
I hope they keep the roll down rear window. The rear hatch in the renderings looks more angled than the spy shots I've seen.
The new landcruiser is the first brand new car I've been actually interested in buying in (much) more than a decade. I know a lot of people are hurt about the 4cyl hybrid but that sounds great to me. I love the honest simplicity of the 1958 model's interior.
I saw a 2024 Land Cruiser advertised at a local dealer for $85k. This was not the First Edition.
Wow. Dealers are cancer
Probably had a dealer mark up, oh wait it’s a market adjustment. 🤣
where bouts? haven't seen any non-first editions in US of late
Just get a GX over that underpowered LC
Hoping 🙏🏻 The next Gen Runner will be its own bespoke version not based on the front end styling of the Tacoma. It won’t wow me as much. A removable top like the 80’s version would blow my mind.
A removable top and doors to compete directly with the Bronco and Wrangler would be super awesome. Probably won't happen but a man can dream.
Definitely not happening any time soon. They've already confirmed it's a Tacoma wagon. It's less distinguished from the Tacoma than the old one is.

It'll never be as quiet or warm as my wife's CX5 with heated seats but it's not as bad as people think.
It would blow your hair too...
Pretty disappointing ground clearance on the LC.
No 3rd row option either.
Tommy was right about putting 33 inch tires on the 2024 Tacoma at stock ride height. Falken Tires and DV8 Offroad made a video where they installed Falken Wildpeak A/T4W 285/70R17 tires with an Overall Diameter of 32.8 inches.
I’ll take the 4Runner in a heartbeat for that naturally aspirated V6 that is well known to be bulletproof. Old but gold
Hah, you think they’re keeping that? Enjoy the turbo 4 cylinder.

The "heavy duty" ones are gone because no one wants a 100k offroad minivan anymore.
Subjective opinion. So by this logic, only the US got the “real Land Cruiser”? What about the LC150 with solid axle, the 70/79 that is used in remote locations due to the harsh conditions? A FJ40 is a real Land Cruiser. Otherwise ICON and others wouldn’t be making $250k resto mods.Again an opinion.

If you own a current 4runner hang onto it and if you don't have one hurry fast. I can see these last 2024 4runners fetching a pretty penny the next few years.
Current trd pro 4runners are 58kish the new ones will be mid 60s-easy.
Do you think 35's would fit on a GX 550 without rubbing or any cutting needed?
Please dear lord don’t make the 4Runner look like those mockups.
Picture a tacoma with a camper on it...that's probably what it would end up looking like
Agree that looks like a baby Sequoia, I want something different.
Toyota isn't that original. The mock ups will probably look better.
Also the new 4Runner won't be made in Japan.

Love this video!
The 3rd row option on 4R will be enough to separate the 2 models from a "customer must have" prospective. As for model lineup, Tommy is right on point.....it will closely mimic the Tacoma. I would bet the hybrid powertrain will be an option on SR5 Premium, and standard on Limited & TRD Pro. The big question for me is if the manual will be available like on the Tacoma. IMO pricing of Limited & TRD Pro will overlap the low end trims of the LC.
I like how they offer round n square headlights on the Land cruiser I'd go with the square lights...thanks Roman n Tommy
I was all about getting the '58 trim LC until I went to configure it and you can only get three solid colors. I want the 58 trim with the blue and grey two-tone paint. I can't wait to see the actual next 4R though.
Same. So when you step up to the next level in order to get an actual color, now it's not that much cheaper than the base GX Overtrail.
You compare LC 200 and LC Prado. It is 2 different cars that exist at other markets
I think Toyota should consider scrapping the Prado moniker from the upcoming Lexus GX-based Land Cruiser 250 worldwide.
Holding out from both for the 106" wheelbase, full framed, 30k LCFJ 😉
45k base price I reckon
Toyota has no reason to rush to next gen 4Runner. Current version is still selling well. Why compete with LC just as it is coming out.
I really like the SR5 idea. for my purposes on forestry trails i think the SR5 would preform just fine. but a rear locker would be awesome.
Can’t wait for you to compare the Land Cruiser, Grenadier and the 4 Runner. That would be a great video. Thanks.
Best ever suvs made imo
I want Toyota to offer the premium powertrain such as hybrid, locker and trd option on the lower basic trims.
The 4runner needs to be its own platform, its own thing.
Likely won't happen. Much cheaper for Toyota to have one platform - frame, engine, transmission - and then work around that to build something.
Its always just been an suv version of the tacoma. It doesn’t make sense from a business perspective to rebuild it from the ground up. Chevy does the same with the silverado and tahoe/ suburban.
It would cost way more. Economies of scale.
@@Inferno45 Ford does it at well. Escape, Bronco Sport, and Maverick are all built on the same platform, all wildly different vehicles. By sharing one platform, but offering different vehicles on it, they save buckets of money on development costs while still being able to offer a distinct experience for each vehicle.
Roman & Tommy, The biggest question in the Toyota 4X4 world today concerns their smallest 4X4: the upcoming Land Cruiser FJ. Will we or won't we get the affordable Land Cruiser FJ in the USA and Canada?🤔
I think the 4Runner is going to fill that bucket in the US - it would make sense from price positioning, no?
@@AllenKrughoffPeople may or may not remember that the FJ Cruiser came to market nearly 20 years ago as a cheaper alternative to the 4Runner. The question today is whether we will have a genuine, body-on-frame Toyota 4X4 that is priced like the base Wrangler and Bronco. At this point we don't even know if the new FJ has been engineered to meet North American standards or whether it will stay in secondary markets. We should find out by summer.
I believe they're made in Indonesia on a different frame than what is currently being used for the North American market and as such doesn't meet our safety standards so it is unlikely that we will see them here.
I agree, it's going to be built on that $10,000 Toyota truck they are selling which won't pass crash tests here. It will also coming with the 2.7 old 4cyl@@joeschlepp
Affordable? I don’t think any of them are affordable lol.
LC 250 and 200 are very similar in size. They have the same cargo volume of 82 ft. cu.
Dear Toyota: What the people really want is the 1958 LC with the V6, but bare bones for rock crawling /over-landing for about $60kish. The GX money is too much, and not everyone wants a leather interior. Bring back a utilitarian FJ style interior and i’ll trade in my 5th gen
I enjoy your reviews, well done, ever thought of looking at overseas specs in your reviews? Are the US specs better that other regions? Better in performance on and off road? More bling? More comfort? I'm sure a little time on websites will give you the figures.... Just a thought
The render at 8:00 in the dark red color looks really nice, especially with those wheels. Definitely looking like a baby 3rd gen sequoia, but I like it. I’m biased to red Toyota suvs. I have an 06 sequoia in salsa red pearl which I love for over landing, so much space. I don’t expect it to happen but it would be awesome to see a two door 4Runner to compete with the 2 door bronco and jeep. The shorter wheelbase would be really attractive to the off-road crowd. I also think the two door versions of the bronco and keep look way cooler.
4runner and FJ cruiser existed at the same time before. FJ being related to the Prado. FJ had better approach and departure angles, slightly more ground clearance. 4runner had better turning radius yet being 5 inches longer. Main difference was the suicide doors on the FJ. I think the 4runner will be the smaller more off road one this time around but they need to do something to differentiate the two.
I think the biggest differentiator between the two will come down to aesthetics and what people personally prefer in looks and styling. The 4 runner is boxy, like the land cruiser. But, still has that more "modern" aesthetic with the curvier edges. Where as the new Land Cruiser goes back to looking more retro than the current Land Cruiser Prado.
The new Prado and the FJ aren't comparable to me because the FJ has so much more character. The retro design, the vertical windshield and triple wipers, the 2.5 door body, the 6 speed manual, etc. distinguished it enough from the 4runner. The new Prado is just another (slightly smaller?) 4runner.
@@Shakshuka69 square mirrors tho!
@@jgm113 lol there is that
Well, trim for trim, the 23 4R is about $4000 more than the 23 Tacoma. I’d expect that to continue. That means about $44,500 to start, $47k for an OR.
Landcruiser cachet- people didn’t buy Landcruisers for cachet. People bought them because they’re quietly understated. At this lower price point, it will be even less about chachet
Owner of an FZJ80 (lifted on 35s and “restored”) and a GX470 mildly lifted on 33s here. As much as I love the looks of the new LC, my money is on the GX550 Overtrail as a replacement for the 470 - but I’m planning to wait until Lexus announces their hybrid drivetrain. Heck, I’ve got another decade before the 470 actually needs to be replaced so I can wait! 😂
When do you guys get to drive the hybrid Tacomas??
Im glad i own 2 of the best a 21 Land Cruiser and a 22 4runner trd pro both bought new, and both black on black.
I'm less interested in the full "off-road" aspect of the Land Cruiser, but more into the size and towing capacity. Finding a non-suburban-sized SUV that can pull 6-8k pounds is a bit of a challenge. Think about it as a solid car camping vehicle that is mostly used as a daily. Maybe in a few years when the new Land Cruiser hits the used market (or the GX550) I'll snag one - most recently I grabbed a used Audi Q7 for all of the reasons noted above.
The Ineos Grenadier was built as an alternative to the Defender when are you going to do an off road comparison between the Grenadier and new Defender?
Just because the old LC was 80-100k does not mean a new 55k version is affordable!! That just hammers home how ridiculously expensive the old one was. If you're being financially responsible, a lot of people cannot afford more than 40k. Sure, you may qualify for 60k, but that's probably not a good idea! Lol
I have no idea what to expect.
What I hope is they’d bring back something to compete against the Bronco and Wrangler.
Cant wait for the 58!!!!!
Wonder if a Prime version of either of these will happen at some point
For us the African market along with the Asian and Australian market, is a huge upgrade for it replaces the old Land Cruiser PRADO ...... and we still have the Land Cruiser 300.
Well executed R&T!
I think the removable top will be a reality on this. I would bet Toyota looked at Wrangler and Bronco, said “hold my beer” and we will be very happy with the result.
There would be no point to have two identical suvs.
Land Cruiser prado and 4Runner have always coexisted together even having the same engine 3.4 V6 for example. Even both having manual transmission options too. The difference is the prado have been always a bit higher and bigger and more off road worthy. New Land Cruiser and new 4Runner might have same engine again but 4Runner will have softer look.
nice and great converstation, thanks for keeping it real!!
Thank you for not recording in 24p 👍
I usually like and appreciate your take on things, but I think you all totally missed the point on this one. Having owned and maintained several Land Cruisers, 4 runners, tacomas and pickups, I don't think you distinguished what a Land Cruiser is and why it is special. It's not about capability or looks, yes it is different that way, but it's about their sheer reliability and simplicity. To me it seemed that you were more focused on looks and gimmicks of the new ones rather than what the brand was built on. All of these vehicles are a huge departure from what made them popular. And why we are seeing companies like Ineos popping up and having success.
If you get an TRD OR with any kind of decent package on it it’s gonna be easily around 60K or even more. You see it with the Tacomas. While the base price may not be horrible, some of the packages add upwards of 8K to the price. The new TRD OR will be last gen’s TRD Pro.
They are coming out with a Land Cruiser and a new 4Runner? Pretty cool. Hope they do something like make the 4runner start at 35k base or a cheaper trim like that or something
5th generation 4Runner has a slow 4.0 V6 with a outdated 5speed transmission. It’s slow and sluggish specially going up on a mountain and you can hear the transmission working hard. All that said I would 100% recommend the 5th generation over this new 6th generation with out any hesitation. It’s a proven bulletproof suv/truck.
Hey guys, have you ever ridden Toyota J150 (Prado)? I think that is enough. I have 2012 with 3.0 turbo diesel and it will go anywhere just as it is with just better tires. No, it's not 200 or even 300 but it does amazing job driving it. My has torsen central dif, so it's permanent 4x4, you lock that centre dif, I have rear differential with locking and I have crawl control and of course LO range... It's 5 speed automatic and it's amazing vehicle... So, this one new 250 is amazing vehicle...
We need the roof weight load capacity.
That is important for us Overlander
🙏🏾
Well regardless of pricing. What incentives is Toyota going to offer to its dealerships to help alleviate the sticker shock. Either with manufacturer incentives to some low interest programs.
i’d take 5 years worth of oil changes😂
Probably nothing, these are going to be super popular.
between the highlander, grand highlander, 4runner, land cruiser and sequoia... toyota is really oversaturating their mid/fullsize suv offerings. especially when you consider all the trim levels of each model. shouldve made the sequoia the full size unibody, (in lieu of adding grand highlander), and kept the land cruiser, as its most luxurious 4x4 body on frame offering. i think that would help the 4runner differentiate itself more from the other offerings.
It’ll be interesting to see what the 4runner looks like. I think the LC should have been the removable top off roader to go head to head with Wrangler and Bronco. I tend to agree with Roman that overlap maybe a lot.
I love those new rendering of the 4runner. A mini Sequoia. But I'm not quite sure why it starts SO much higher than a Tacoma...that's the let down. Starting at 45k...eh...
Having sat in the GX550 and the Land Cruiser 250 i am absolutely convinced that I will buy a used Lexus LX600 when I have to replace my Land Cruiser 200. That dash with the giant screen is hideous.
I have a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Hardtop with a 3½ lift, but I've been thinking about a 4Runner. I want a little bit older one. 2018-2019 with the good old V6. There are a lot of them in Florida that are just Soccer mom SUVs with low mileage.
I love basic, naturally aspirated, dependable, strong vehicles with 5-6 speed transmissions. The more complicated, the smaller the motor, the more speeds the worse.
Too much tech is NOT a good thing.
IMO... Thanks gang.
2020 is the first model year with Apple CarPlay. You’ll want that. Lets you control Apps from the vehicle’s in dash touchscreen , music and gps but also OnX Offroad and Gaia
2022+ has the blind spot monitors.
Tommy, the person you had dinner with and was upset about the Prado being passed off as a Land Cruiser (as a stand alone name) is a very wise person. No-one outside NA will ever mistake the new Prado for a "Land Cruiser". Toyota has actually put itself in a very awkward position (globally) due to its complete miss with the LC300 not being anywhere near the successor to the LC200, and other than the 70 series (which catastrophically is not available in NA), doesn't really have a standard-bearer for the iconic and legendary heritage of the Land Cruiser name.
Going to be an interesting space to watch for sure. Here's to hoping that the new global Nissan Patrol stays true to name and function...
Manual transmission 4Runner 🤞
Land Cruiser if the 4Runner looks like that. But for LC money might as well get the GX.
Probably wont happen, but would love to see the 4Runner move more towards a direct competitor to the Bronco/Wrangler since a decent amount of people cross shop all three. Removable top, maybe even removable doors would be amazing. I seriously doubt it, but a man can dream.
I agree, but with as many soccer moms buying the limited trim I doubt they want to depart from the current formula. Toyota needs a new FJ to fill that void 🤙🏼
@@christianmcvay8258 I think we're supposed to be getting a new FJ built on a shortened Land Cruiser platform soon. We'll see.
Share the Tacoma drive train and other features? Oh great! The grille shutter problems and that front differential failure are shared as well? No thanks! Reliability is most important, and will be staying with the 5th generation with V6.
35’s with leveling kit. 88rotors did it on the Tacoma.
Key question: Will the next gen 4Runner offer some trims with a 3rd row?
I'm so glad to see Toyota making exciting cars again. Not since the 90's have they had such a great lineup. There are a few misses here and there but for the most part, they seem to be getting their mojo back.
If the 4runner pushes into the 60's, having built the LC online it can go 70k pretty quick, the GX is going to be almost impossible to get simply due to people doing the math. They already sold out year one production on the GX.
I don’t care what comes out I’m buying it and I’m gonna be happy. I’m so excited for the new 4runner generation!
That black front end on the base LC with the round headlights just looks unfinished in my opinion..
Will the new LC be built with the same extra-robust build quality designed to last a 25 year service life as previous LC models were? Or built more like all other Toyotas which, while still better than most OEMs, were still a step below the LC?
This is the prado i dont know why they named it Land Cruiser
The 4 runner has always cost more than the tacoma. If the Trd Pro and Trailhunter Tacoma costs around $60k, then the 4runner will be around $65k
I have also heard through a good source that the new TRD Pro 4Runner will be priced around $64,500.
Pricing is crazy I like Lowe prices b

If the 4runner took hints from the new GX, I'd love it. I'd def like more masculine designs than what was shown here. Thanks for honest reporting - I keep checking everyday to see if Toyota's announced! (still holding out for the removable top LOL)>.
I think its one thing to buy a car that you use as a toy on weekends and holidays, and something totally different for a single jack-of-all-trades vehicle. A single car owner would get the Land Cruiser because it comes with more creature comforts yet can play in the dirt if you need it to.
Two (or more) car families, will benefit better from getting the cheaper and more basic trimmed 4Runner, just for that long weekend off-road excursion for entertainment purposes only.
4Runner will probably go with that same 4 banger turbo motor too.......a smart person would offer both the V6TT or the 4T in the new Runner.......
Judging from those pictures, the 4runner looks more like the high lander or a station wagon, most definitely not doing it for me. I will probably keep my 2016 4runner trail edition since she's given no problems, still looks new, and serves me all my overlandding needs. Love my 5th gen.
putting all of these four wheeler buttons on the center consoles is a SUPER IDIOTIC trend. My girlfriends Highlander has a few buttons like hill decent and or snow mode buttons, and that is where, like most women, she puts her purse and about anything else she brings into her car, right on top of all the buttons and she is always asking me, "why are all these yellow warning lights on my dash lit up for".

Don't much care for the new coming Land Cruiser, but totally agree with you that it would be awesome if the next 4runner brought it to Bronco and Jeep with a removable top. I'm really hoping they don't miss the mark like it kind of feels they have with the Tundra, Sequoia and Tacoma. I am interested in the next gen 4runner, especially if they knock it out of the park... and don't get even more ridiculous on the price of course
I had the original 4Runner with the removable back. Took it off once and never got it to seal water tight again. Great concept, but a complete failure in execution. But I do love my 4Runners. Got a 2022 Off Road now. And at my age, it'll probably be my last.
Current LOW price on a 2024 Terra TRD pro 4Runner is $62k. Those dealer markups on the 2025 Pro are going to be painful to see and worse for the TrailHunter trim if Toyota carries it over from Tacoma to slot above the Pro.
Love the channel guys. Please for the love of god stop floating the idea of a removable back on the 4Runner lol. No disrespect, but this is the worst thing they could do. The 4Runner is amazing for reasons the Tacoma isn’t. The Tacoma is awesome but the 4runner is the more family friendly and more sturdy stable big interior choice. I would hate to see that change. Also the bronco and jeep already do that. And the bronco is a perfect example of why that wouldn’t be great for the 4Runner. I know ford will fix some things, but even still the bronco had all kinds of issues with that top and it’s just not as crash test worthy.
🙌🙌🙌🙌
A little surprised that US doesn’t get the 300 series like we do in Aus…
The GX is where it’s at.
$45-65k for the 4Runner. Just watch
100% agree with you both. I think Toyota is charging a premium simply for the name Land Cruiser and it in no way is representative of a 56k dollar interior. Once the new 4runner is on lots side by side with the new LC I think the LC is going to be a hard sell.
I think Toyota might consider demoting the 4Runner to compact BoF SUV status to avoid overlapping with the new Land Cruiser 250.
I still think the 4Runner should have the same v6 as the GX to differentiate it from the Land Cruiser, it just doesn’t make sense to have two vehicles that are essentially the same size with a similar power plant at roughly around the same pricing range (let’s be honest here, a TRD Pro 4Runner will be at least $60k)…it just seems redundant for a sales vantage point.
A v6tt in a 4 runner sounds awesome, but most likely not happening. And a trd pro maybe more like 70k if the sequioa is going for about 90
Looking forward to The New Landcruiser breaking down on the trail episode....
I imagine the new land cruiser (can we agree to call it a prado?) will slot in where the old 4runner limited was, we'll see how much they step on each other's toes based on the trim levels that are made available.
2024 vs 2025 , 13:38 4 runner bed space i hope there the same to sleep in the back with rear seats out .
Either way, 4Runner , LC and GX are established nameplates, you still have a Toyota.
You gotta quit saying that "the previous generation" is somehow the same. It isn't. The new one is basically a Landcruiser Prado with a turbo 4-cylinder whereas the previous generation was much bigger, with a 5.7L V8 or a 3.3L Diesel twin-turbo V6 in overseas markets. It was a class larger on the platform with the Lexus LX vs the new one on the same platform as the Lexus GX. Toyota price inflation is far too high!
Motormouth channel said they got invitation from Toyota for 4Runner release and they believe that it will be only available in hybrid.
