  • Donald Trump is the first former U.S. president to be charged with a crime. But a decade ago, John Edwards was charged in a case involving a hush-money payment made during his presidential run. Here’s how the two cases compare.
One of the central questions in both cases: Is the money really a campaign donation?

How differently would a regular citizen be handled if they were to engage in practices like these?

That Edwards hooey was ridiculous and it fit the times. Man though…I wish we could go back those times. Today politics has gotten worse and the politicians are no longer good at hiding the fact they are a-holes.

Very concise and easily understandable explanation. However, the one thing it left out was WHY this case is seemingly weaker than the Edwards case despite the lines connecting the nodes on the graphs being stronger. Because it is a state case alleging falsified business records, which in New York has a 2 year statute of limitations since it is a misdemeanor (which has already passed even accounting for Trump's time in DC while he was President, which doesn't count towards the statute of limitations under NY law), Bragg has to upgrade the charges to a felony (which has a 5 year statute which has not expired) using the clause that makes falsified business record charges a felony if the falsification was done to further another felony. But its not clear what that other felony was (or if it was a federal offense, which opens a whole new can of worms) and Bragg hasn't disclosed what that predicate offense is, though in past cases under that statute the prosecutors usually didn't state the predicate offense in the indictment and still won convictions.

@@FRANKSNAKE71 it means these idiots are obsessed w Trump to a pathological degree. The country is collapsing culturally, militarily and economically and half the public thinks “getting” Trump on a comically weak, convoluted documents case that the DA concocted out of whole cloth, is the most important issue facing the country.
The case is a loser. It will ultimately be dismissed. Trump won’t spend 2 seconds in jail.

Apples to Oranges (no pun intended).
Edwards had a child out of wedlock; Trump didn't.
Edwards' wife was also battling cancer, while he was screwing around.
Both are sleazy, but Edwards wins the slug award on this comparison.
