Got the G14 with the 6700S a few months ago and have been loving it. I love being able to take my laptop to school for 7 hours without the charger, come back home and run any game I want. It also just looks so clean and feels very professional even when I'm sitting next to a MacBook.

In case anyone was wondering, this G14 can be upgraded to 40gb RAM by replacing the removable 8gb stick with a 32gb one. I did it on mine for better video editing. The performance hit for no longer running in full quad channel mode was tiny for gaming. I ran TimeSpy before and after the upgrade and the score difference was only about 1.5%.

I got the G14 for like $900 and I feel like I stole something. It truly checks all the boxes like nothing I've ever seen before. It's upgradeable, has a great screen, it's powerful, yet it can be efficient, yet the styling is actually tasteful. I feel like with most gaming laptops you either get something that performs great but suffers in design aesthetics or usability, and every thin and light I've ever tried, while super convenient, cannot keep up with thermals or battery life. I've never bought something that I've liked so much that I'm like, almost suspicious of it. This thing has to be made of like asbestos or something; it's too good to be true.

If you do not know how to manage your power settings of course you're going to get bad battery life. You can easily get 9 hours or more if you go into Battery saver, Eco mode, silent mode, with the screen brightness of around 0 to 20%. None of this will work if you have any of the following running. Anything that has to do with any kind of gaming app running on the background, will drain your battery no matter how small the application. Wallpaper engine for example or having battlenet on while not even playing a game will drain your battery. So I would go to your task bar manager and disable anything that starts up with gaming related apps. This will keep your GPU asleep = power saver until you wake it up. I would go into windows under graphics and set up my settings. I unusually avoid putting anything on the RX6700S to keep it asleep and only put my high profile games such as AAA games or anything of the sorts.

The problem with this is that it's not just resolution you're getting a downgrade on. If it was just resolution I'd agree, but the 1440p panel has better colours, faster response times and much higher brightness.120hz 1440p @500nits Vs 144hz 1080p @300nits. Colours don't matter as much for casual users I guess since AFAIK both have 100% srgb, but the max coverage dci p3 and Dolby vision are still nice to haves. And where I am the price difference given the same specs for the different screens is negligible. Why not pay 80$ or so bucks more if it means a much better screen on an already expensive machine. If you really need the extra frames, just lower the game settings. There's barely if any difference between ultra and high that I can notice, and the g14 can definitely run most games on high settings above 60 FPS 2k resolution. Personally I'd rather play at QHD high settings over FHD ultra.

The way to fix the overheating issues of the G14 on the AMD versions is to simply disable CPU boost. CPU boost is set to 'Agressive' on all ASUS stock + Armory power profiles for some reason(???) and by disabling it I no longer crash every god damn day.. That is on the 2020 version, and I would not be surprised if that is the case on the later versions as well. Remember than temps over 95C actually damages your CPU over time. I installed software that instantly throttles my CPU when temps are above 90C. Can recommend!

I use Mac at home and windows at the office, bought the G14 to get a gaming laptop at a good price at Best Buy (1199) and after trying for a week, I returned it, this computers gets loud and really hot just browsing the net, playing games , you could do a full BBQ on topo of it, speakers were really bad and the whole frame vibrated with the speakers. Nice display and overall looks, like the face recognition feature, track pad was OK, keyboard not as good as MBP, if this would have a better thermal management, would've been a keeper for me, if you intent to use this on your desktop, connecting to an external display, then, it should not be a problem, I like to use most of the time on my lap.......

It's HS and I like how they incorporated a vapor chamber now (thank you Razer) as well as thermal grizzly compound. Although at first glance the screen looked small to my eyes. Not being a gamer I'm interested a reasonably priced laptop that can replace my current desktop and also offer portability. I'm using an ITX with 32gbs of RAM and a 13700K CPU and an AMD RT 6700 XT graphics card. Don't really care if it's Mac or Windows based, although it must be able to run certain Windows programs (virtual machine or natively) such as MakeMKV without any issues. My issues with Apple are the premiums it charges for its hardware (sometimes inferior) and the ridiculous amounts it charges for upgrading RAM, storage and ethernet, e.g. 2.5Gb ethernet should be standard and I should not be forced to get a 10Gb ethernet upgrade. Let's face it 2.5Gb switches and NAS devices are already expensive and I can imagine how much more expensive 10Gb switches and NAS devices would be. Furthermore, I'm not a video content creator so Apple's strength in that area is lost on me. Finally, I don't foresee myself ever full buying into the Apple ecosystem. For example, Facetime is lost on me as are certain apps that are better utilized for iOS vs Android. I'm not into social media all that much and I use other apps for video calls as many of the people I communicate are not in North America and they tend to use Android phones so WhatsApp is more important to me than Facetime. And for those that bitch about messaging with people on Android instead of on an iPhone or iPad I say F#@k Off. BTW I do own some Apple products for various reasons in case I sound like an Apple hater.

There's still a few months for the 2023 G14 to come out. Plus, given the price of the 40 series cards it's going to be significantly more expensive, with most of the non performance features being pretty much the same. If the 2022 fits your requirements you might as well get it. There's no real point in waiting for the next gen, because the next generations release very quickly and are almost always much better. Based on what we saw at CES, the difference between 22 and 23 will just be the specs.

@@enderduck4253 yes, I agree, especially with the chassis staying the same and even the mini led offering an incremental update. However, I'm buying a laptop after a long time and intend to keep it for around 4 years, so a few hundred more over that period of time I'm willing to spend. And if the difference isn't much, the 2022 top end will get cheaper, so I'll snag it then. I agree with your statement that there's always something around the corner tho lol

Nvidia is a better choice if you do more creator workloads or play a lot of games that use unreal engine. That engine loves NVIDIA for some reason lol. That's why I went with the g15.

I really like this laptop when it works mine just acts dead after being in sleep mode for some time and I have to hold the power button down to restart the computer and Wi-Fi doesn't work immediately when the laptop turns on or wakes up from sleep (when it does do that) so I always have to reload my wallpaper engine wallpaper and other update stuff that launches with the computer errors. I think the sleep thing is bc armory crate idk tho. they keyboard is usually not lit up or anything tho, sometimes the fans are on, sometimes not, my capture card still has signal tho and the hard drive light is on (idr if its solid or blinking)

@@patricecomedyno, I have the 6800s model, unless you need RTX benefits (design etc.) it’s not worth it. The CPU on the 2023 is very similar to the 2022 model. Personally I’d suggest the 6700s version as it gets very similar performance. Sorry for the late reply, and have a great evening.
