    Just rec'd this game and really love your playthrough. It really shows the multi-player games well, clarifies some unclear rulebook items and helps explain some strategy. Looking forward to playing this one.

    BGA now has this game available. The tutorial directly brought me to this video.
    Super clear and enjoyable playthrough. You understand how to explain boardgames extremely well. Neither do you miss a beat nor do you repeat things needlessly.
    You gained a fan, Sir.

    This game reminds me of Smallworld, somehow, especially with these collecting civilizations theme and overwriting another one.

    Hey Jon,
    I really enjoyed your strategy summary at the end of this video - it gave us ideas of what you can do, what worked and what didn’t work! I would love to have you give this type of couple minute discussion that more often at the end of your videos! :-)

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  2 года назад +3

      I did this for years back when I always filmed full playthroughs. I stopped this "wrap up" when I shifted to just showing part of the game in these videos. I suppose when I do make full playthroughs these days I could add something like this, I'll consider it though I can't commit to it right now. I will say we have extensive discussions at the end of our "playthrough with friends" videos in the form of a new podcast called "Friendly Ties". So far we have only covered 4 games this way, but it is new and we intend to do a couple a month.

    • @tychay
      @tychay 5 лет назад +3

      This is actually the first playthrough I watched where Jon actually won. The other two players are normally much sharper. :-P I have a feeling it's because Jon deliberately messed up the first player rotation.

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  5 лет назад +1

      @@tychay Haha, I can assure you there was nothing deliberate about that :) I feel like I've gone on winning streaks in my playthroughs in the past, but the last several have been rough on average for the "us" player.

    I started out typing a comment about how this looks like it would fit in a Tiny Epic sized box, then I went and looked at the KS page and I see that’s very much what they’re going for lol so never mind about that. I think this looks great. I’ve discovered I really enjoy a tight game with limited actions and good combo potential. The variability seems extremely high, especially when you see how much stuff has been added through stretch goals. I might have to back this.

    6:11 rest action is gain a worker and 2 coin.
    6:31 score marker is not a meeple but a star token of your color.
    8:50 but you already have a war symbol on your leftmost card, I.e. era 1 so should you not resolve that?
    10:45 so left=red=pool / supply =future workers;
    Top=white=Action area=available workers now.
    10:30 it’s more intuitive to lay down your worker to a red icon, and keep it standing up if the cost is white. A reminder where they go when round ends.
    18:10 might as well place n-1 coins on top of the civ deck as a reminder that next time a civ is taken you need to deal out money to the leftovers.
    Also, since there can only be 3p civs in play, the rest of the cards should go back to the box: it has no role in this game.
    19:00 eras of days gone by should be flipped for extra drama.
    Just looking for guidelines to make gameplay feel more intuitive. I totally missed the hard limit of 3 civs.. I think it does make sense since you have the tension of going for what is or hold on to what might be.
    No idea how you can become better at this game since there is so much variety.

    32:57 So what happens if you are unable to lose a person because you do not have a worker? Is there a penalty or do you just end up not having to lose one and so you planned correctly?

    Great video! One question, can you choose the order of "every round end" actions? For example there is a civ giving coins every turn end for tech cubes. Can I execute it first and then perform a culture action thanks to education?

    At 45:35 (Final Round) Yellow has to sacrifice, due to the war. Thou you did remove one of his meeples, you did not give him 2 money for his civ card ability of gaining 2 money when a meeple is sacrificed.

    As with so many Euros, and civ games, infrastructure is king here. Brown had a good general idea with a wonder strat, but without money, it just runs out of steam.

    • @repeataftermeme75
      @repeataftermeme75 5 лет назад +2

      It does. I find games that have “ the board game” after its title is always sad to me. Like, where’s the effort. Hellboy: The Board Game. I backed Hellboy which is why I’m using it as an example but still. If publishers go through such effort, why is the title treated differently.
      I can see why some may look at this civ game as too basic, but I think it’s a good intro for families. Nothing too crazy or super take that. Just clean fun.

    So did you ever settle on one game over the other when it comes to brass? Which one do you like best? Birmingham or Lancashire?

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  5 лет назад

      I did end up playing Brass: Lancashire again after getting a copy and I do think I have a slight preference for it simply due to its lesser rules complexity. I wouldn't mind playing Birmingham too, I just don't know anyone with a copy of it in the area now and it does take longer to teach and play.
