I can only think of one such instance. In Curb your enthusiasm when LArry David had to act like George Costanza, who in fact was a character based on Larry David. Pure genius.
The best part is all the serious actors he's surrounded by you can't tell if they're thinking I'm going to fire my agent for sticking me in with this lunatic or I am in the presence of genius.
Hollywood today is on the rocks, and sinking fast. They did not bother to develop any new talent for years. With the boomers dropping left and right, they have really very few "star" actors to draw in movie crowds. Well, they can always just make Marvel super hero movies until they go under.

Sure he does the Guardian movies (which would’ve been nothing without him) but in the last year he was the lead in the top 3 grossing movies. Other than him I don’t see a lot of new star power being consistent outside of hero movies. Maybe Chris Pine?

About half way through, I quit on it. I though he was terrible in it, and his co-stars lacked talent, to put it mildly. You never about anyone these days, politically, no matter how nice or cool they seem.

His acting (as well as Travolta's) becomes really interesting after the Face-off when he starts to act in the way the film character of Travolta would act in order to pretend to act like Cage's film character would act.
