• Bridge Over Troubled W...
The Don Lane Show, Channel 9, Australia, November 22nd, 1979
Hi guys. I have an early john farhnam video from 1979. Even at his young age here you can absolutely see that he will one day be the aussie goat. He is simply amazing. Enjoy!!!

John was 30 here. He was 18 when his first single Sadie the Cleaning Lady, was released in 1967 when he was billed as Johnny Farnham. Thanks guys for reacting. ❤
This is one of those videos where you hit the like button before you even watch it.
He was already a class act. He could already hit the high notes, he was already using the microphone to suit his voice and was humble enough to acknowledge whoever he was sharing the stage with a trait he has always held.
All 'round Aussie legend - great singer, awesome guy
This was probably on The Don Lane Show. Don (an American) had an awesome nighttime show and he was a huge fan of John's. He had him on every chance he could. At one performance Don had Sammy Davis Jnr on and he insisted on talking to John. lol John was a bit overwhelmed lol. Love to Kris for this suggestion. Love you guys
Absolutely beautiful 😍 His tone, range and power are just incredible. He started in 1963 as a 14 year old in a couple of local bands and his first No 1 hit single came out in 1967 - he was 18 years old. ❤🎉 Love our John. Thanks for reacting to this 🤩
He looks young here but he had already had 1/2 a dozen No1 songs, 5 times "king of pop" and heaps of TV before this.
Johnny Farnham (yes, he started as Johnny) was a teen pop idol (winning not only the 'king of pop' award, but also snagging 'best dressed male entertainer' on occasion back in 1967-1973. His career hits the rocks, so he re-invented himself as John Farnham and relaunched his career (in about 1979?). the earliest performance I think you can find on the internet will be 'Sadie, the Cleaning Lady', the song that had many a middle-aged mum fall in love with him. I can remember my grandmother having one of his albums in the 70's.
Note that, while being born in 1949, he continued to win 'best teenage personality' until 1973. Probably proving that most people can't count?
Most of Australia dismissed John during this period. He just couldn’t shake the “teen idol”, “Sadie, the Cleaning Lady” monikers. I remember as a kid at this time EVERYONE said that John Farnham could not sing! Unreal, hey! John has overcome a lot, not least, his own early success which set him back a decade before he made it big in 1986. Deadset legend in Australia
John and his wife have been married for over 50 years.
Might be the youngest you've seen him (he's actually a baby-faced 30 here), but there is a great live concert out there from when he was 22 that someone may request at some point. His voice and musical interpretation are already incredible then. I believe his first song was released when he was 17.
His voice is just flawless
John’s first singles were in the late 60’s. Try early 70s “One is the loneliest number” and “Raindrops keep falling on my Head”
And the man never had one singing lesson..just pure God given talent
Absolutely amazing!
Farnsy could sing the phonebook and still give me goosebumps!! luv u guys, luv from Auss
Have you seen him sing Old Macdonald's Farm.? lol
@@stevegraham3817 hahaha yep! he def has a sense of humour, its hilarious lol
I love how he always acknowledges and thanks the musicians and background singers. What a legend.❤
Sadie The Cleaning Lady is John’s earliest recording.
"SSShhhh!" Let's not go there lol
Can’t beat the original… it’s just perfect!
as others have said, 30 here, ( yes, married about 6 years ) for an very early song, have a listen to him sing a Gene Pitney song - Half Heaven Half Heart ache with ZOOT 1967 - recording only-
❤❤❤
Love this video of John Farnham singing this song but nothing beats hearing Simon and Garfunkel's version.
From memory John married his school, sweet heart
Their still together today with two boys who in bands
John retired so he could watch themm more often
It's one of the reasons he rarely left Australia 🇦🇺
It was painful enough having to go on the road for months
They've been by each other's sides for everything
John used to pay out his mother inlaw every opportunity he got
Must have had a great relationship and used to say leave my beers alone I'll be home soon atleast leave me one
You'd be able to find many interviews and shows paying her out
Cheers guys 🦘🇦🇺👍
Not school sweet hearts - but close, Jill and John met while doing the stage show 'Charlie Girls' - Jill was one of the dancer
He's from East London. He's not Australian. Also the vocalist from ACDC is from North East England. None of these are australian singers. Bee Gees are from UK too.
@@arsenalmanic John and his family emigrated in the late 50's . John is a proud Australian.- just listen to the speech he gave when he received the 'Australian of the Year' award in 1988 from the then Prime Minister.
Lol, Sadie, The Cleaning Lady, first. You should hear him sing with The Little River Band, especially the We Two song! Blows my mind all the time. Love you John! 💗💗💗💗
It was during these years John was considered a bit of a joke by the Australian music industry, largely confined to TV appearances and one man shows in clubs, radio wouldn’t touch him. This was between his early fame and later mega star era.
His 30 here. His just a phenomenal singer. 🧐😊🇦🇺
John was born in 1949, he would be 30 in this clip
Who was John Farnham's first? 😂😂😂
Now that's a question. I did have a giggle 😂😂
@@carolynh8866 and the other one I have is- did you keep that little brown suit
@Dr_KAP I remember him saying in one of his Ray Martin interviews that I watched recently that he he still had one of his suits from that era - Robbie (aged about 5 or 6) had it but it didn't have buttons anymore LOL! 😂😂 He was so funny in those interviews with Ray and Steve Vizard 🤣 ❤
@@AussieDebb he sure was! Especially when he started talking about his mother in law 😂
😂😂😂😂
Yes John is married has been for over 50 years
29/30
And, Seriously.John was smoking two (2) packs of twenties at this time. With this voice ???
You should react to the swedish version of it when tommy körberg is singing it. Its even better than this!
Tommy Körberg -- Som en Bro över Mörka Vatten
I like Elvis version the best.
I prefer John's as he has more range !!!!!
Elvis voice is more pleasant to listen to. I personally don’t like John’s voice
@@golddredgewater Well that's o.k. if you don't like his voice, everyone has an opinion, even if you are wrong, like you 😂
@@robinlabouche2230😂😂
@@carolynh8866 Elvis is the best live performer ever. I am not wrong. That is all.
John has a nice voice but NOTHING can beat the original Art Garfunkel vocal to Paul Simon's beautiful song. Nothing. Ever!
He's from East London. He's not Australian. Also the vocalist from ACDC is from North East England. None of these are australian singers. Bee Gees are from UK too.
True, but John and ACDC consider themselves Australian.
