It’s my birthday!!! What better way to celebrate than by watching this stunning performance. Please enjoy a slice of birthday cake from me to you 🍰
Happy Birthday🎉🎉❤
Your birthday? You get a cookie albeit an imaginary one but a cookie nevertheless. :D
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday enjoy your day
🎉 Happy Birthday
Even when John was a teenage pop star, he had a beautiful voice. Over the years, it has matured into a powerhouse. He deserves the title of Australia's best singer.
Yes, and in every concert he did he'd be asked to sing Sadie, he is always gracious and self deprecating about it and is a crowd favourite that everyone sings along to.
His voice is out of this world, best cover of this song by a male singer hands down. Check out an older John Farnham in 2000 singing “angels” live with Lisa Edwards
Yes, and also "when the war is over 2003"...both world class performances despite his age.
He’s been singing like that to us for 50+ years. Love the respect you are paying, given your professional background. He’s simply wonderful. We love him. Have a listen to John’s performance of When the War Is Over 2003 Last Time concert (when he was 54 years old). I reckon it will rattle you.
The technique, the tone, the CONVICTION, the heart, the guts. It's just mesmerising hey!
Just a baby here. So pure and beautiful. This was at a time when the radio wouldn't even play his songs! He went through very hard times, but came back fighting, with the help of his dear friend Glen Wheatley, and the rest, as they say, is history.
And people like don lane and Bert newton kept him on tv, and doing the rounds of the rissoles and clubs honed his technique (all the quips and stage craft included).
Why wouldn’t the radio play his songs?
@@spillthepearl It's complicated. But he began his career as 'Johnny Farnham' in the late 60s as a teen pop singer which wasn't considered 'cool' for radio in the 1970s. Eventually he rebranded in the 1980s as 'John Farnham', with the financial help of his great friend Glenn Wheatley, and released the 'Whispering Jack' album in 1986 which went utterly ballistic in Australia. I think it may still be the highest selling album by an Australian artist in Australia. The rest is history. He's a local legend now.
Absolutely love him! He has always been wonderful and so many Aussie’s grew up with that lovely man with the incredible gift. He’s always better live for some reason, probably as he such a performer. I really pray he recovers from his cancer op, even if he can’t sing again as he has a huge body of work. I am thrilled all you young reactionists are hearing his genius and spreading it forward. Thank you.♥️🇦🇺🙏🏽
Anyone else hoping someone would react to "Gethsemane" by John Farnham 1992 Sydney Final Night on Good Friday? This was a great reaction. Such lovely appreciation for a man who was under-appreciated at the time.
Totally agree about John's Gethsemane. The dynamics and vocal tone are magnificent and he was older than the performance in your first video
@@maburton8039JCS Gethsemane - that's a sublime "yes" from me. I haven't heard of blocks occurring on the live final night in Sydney 1992.
Happy Birthday Nina and thank you for your present to us. I only listened to Bridge Over Troubled Water on RUclips 3 days ago because I was cleaning and didn't want to clear the way to my CD's & player. So happy to hear John sing any time.
His best live performance, I reckon! His voice comes from somewhere else. Stunning.
Yes indeed
Happy birthday! John Farnham is the finest singer the rest of the world has never heard of. He was 30 in this performance & had already been 'discovered' for 12 or 13 years. He did thousands of gigs over the years and just got better & better 😊 My favourite recorded Farnham track is Age of Reason (1988) and my favourite live performance is his scene from the Garden of Gethsemane in the 1992 Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Utterly mind-blowing ☺️🥰
Thank you Fiona!

I saw him a few years back and even at the age of 70+ his voice had not changed. If he were able to sing this song today there would be little change. So glad to have grown up with this guy.
I've never heard him sing this before! Omg its amazing
Made my night getting to Farnesy again miss! Can't wait for you to see the "you're the voice" clip with the Melbourne symphony orchestra... its bloody amazing. Australian anthem. Great vid again 👌🏼
Thank you for watching 😊
Love John singing When The War is over. Live of course.
That's why John is one of the
Greatest live singers ever
🥳 thanks for your reaction
Thanks for watching!
I was 19 when John did that performance, so John was 29 there. Doesn't look it. As an Aussie, I'm so proud oh him.
I remember watching this performance on telly when I was a teenage fan of John. ❤. I still am a fan
Having grown up with John on TV singing for 40 years, we love him. His voice is amazing. Look out for Gethsemane, yes he did this on TV live & it's wonderful
I know this is a classic song and a LOT of fabulous singers have sung this. But even so, I still think this is the best version of this song that exists.

@@naimuds8269 It's not bad. Better than average, I'd say. And she has a lovely voice. I'd like to hear her live. I lean towards live music more and these days because I find canned music done in a studio very rarely, basically never, carries the emotion any longer. It's so processed, so 'fixed' that all the emotion is removed. I did hear emotion, particularly at the beginning strangely, strangely because emotion should increase in a song such as this, not decrease. But I suspect that's not her doing, and the layered processing that generally removes emotion from a song did it's annoying job, sadly. At the beginning I was actually quite hooked and keenly thought this recording might definitely rival John's, but the emotion quickly disintegrated with the progress of the song, sadly,. Probably they left her beginning 'as is' and altered the recording more and more as the song progressed. It's sad, because I suspect she probably sang it very well, indeed. I would love to have heard the REAL recording, actually. John's performance is live so all the emotion is all still there.
It's incredibly sad. I'm a teenager of the Australian 80s, and our music back then was massively ladened with emotion and wasn't altered in a way that removes emotion like it is today. That's why in Australia, 80s music is still, by far the most popular music, even popular with the young in a way that has never been before. Many of these modern singers might be wonderful singers who sing with wonderful emotion, (who knows?), and there's no doubt about her skill and talent, but in most recorded music, the emotion is missing. I rarely listen to modern music much these days because of this, and if I do, it has to be live.
Thanks for the link. 🙂
@@fransmith3255 Sorry about that, Fran. I couldn't find a live vocal from the singer. But I've got another song that you might want to hear from another singer. Here's the link-> ruclips.net/video/6pwAmigtIlc/видео.htmlsi=qbZHk5RO6iBSTfSO

Awesome to see you going down this rabbit hole. When something is wrong with my baby with Jimmy Barnes and Long way to the top with the Melb symphony orchestra are great examples of his ridiculous ability. Granada with Anthony Warlow is fabulous as well. And of course, You're the voice, again Melb symphony orchestra version is the best. There are dozens of others of course.
YES YES YES PLEASE
Thanks Nina. John Farnham was born to sing. He was a teenage sensation & heartthrob when he burst onto the scene and just kept going. He went on to play Jesus in the rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar. You must check out John’s version of 'When the War Is Over' in 2003 - one of his best performances ever.
It’s very unusual for Farnsey videos to be blocked unless you reacted to an official recording rather than a live. I haven’t heard any reactor getting blocked for doing his live shows. Hopefully it will go through eventually and we get to see it! In the meantime Happy Birthday 🥳
Thank you for the birthday wishes! I seem to have very bad luck compared to others when it comes to copyright unfortunately 😅
GOT to be My Favorite Male vocalist
OMG!!!!! Mind Blowing!!!!
Notice how he coordinates the microphone with his vocals! He has always done that. 🥰. This video is from one of John’s many, many appearances on the Don Lane Show, a very popular show during the 60s to the 80s.
Great mic technique for sure!
Don Lane just adored John.
@@Mirrorgirl492 Don was always very supportive of great talent, especially when they were lovely people as well. John is definitely both!
John's vocal's are mesmerising and with every performance you see you will learn something new about his voice. Enjoy the journey of discovering The Voice and thank you for keeping this amazing humans legacy going for many more years to come.
John was still rocking that as recently as a few years ago. Unfortunately he's had some VERY serious health battles recently. All of nations best wishes are with him and hoping he recovers. If we can hear him sing again all the better.
"Happy Birthday dear Nina!" You adored this so much the energy inside you was bursting with love. Continue having a great day and evening.
So kind of you, thank you!
I can remember watching this way back then... and thinking wow !!...... just watching it now, I'm still thinking.... WOW !!!
Another wonderful example of John's extraordinary talent is his duet with Anthony Warlow, having fun doing Granada from a concert called The Main Event which also has Oliva Newton John
He can truly sing anything. Wish he'd done more opera but at least we have JCS
Unbelievit!
Hope you've had a wonderful birthday and have been suitably spoilt! Thanks for more Farnsy!!
Thank you for the birthday wishes!
Wow 😮, I've never seen or heard his performance of this classic, he looks so young. Totally blown away ❤
Great reaction and appreciation thank you. Yes, I agree John Farnham can sing anything! He is a phenomenal singer, performer and personality, which is why, like many Aussies, I have loved him for 50 years! Please do many more John Farnham reactions….e.g. That’s Freedom, Dare to Dream, Angels, Grenada, Please Don’t ask me, Touch of Paradise, just to name a few
Thank you for playing and respecting our national hero. Don’t forget that clip was in the era of his first big comeback. Before then he was a sixties pop star singing covers like “Sadie the cleaning lady”.
What makes it so special is how effortless he makes it look and sound - it's a rare talent that can do that. Thanks for the reaction
John has never had a voice lesson he did have a few breathing lessons only. He is a true gift to us all
First of all i hope your Birthday was filled with love and happiness Nina and second i wish you and all the subscribers a Happy Easter. And this was such a Easter treat for me another Great John Farnham reaction. As an Australian im so proud of the legacy he has made in the Australian music industry.
Thank you so much!!
Great reaction thankyou!.
A very Happy Birthday to you.👍
John exudes passion and talent everytime he opens his mouth.
He is much loved here Down Undah for being a superstar talent who has always come across as the good bloke down the street.👍
More please,
Thankyou,
Zebedee from Oz. 👍
Thank you!
Happy Birthday! His voice is so pure here as you say (before the smokes kick in )
Thank you Narelle!
John is the greatest and most versatile male vocalist of all time, he can sing anything, any genre and do it to perfection. The diction and clarity in his voice is perfect, you can hear and understand every word. The power, passion and emotion in his voice is so deep and meaningful. Seemingly unlimited vocal range, agility, mic control, breath control, stage presence, everything is epic.
Belated happy birthday! And John Farnham is truly blessed with that voice.
One of my favorite songs by John. Definitely a goose bumper🎉
Happy happy birthday!!! Love to watch/listen to you and learn from you. Thank you.
Thank you! 😃
Happy belated birthday from down under!! 🎉 my birthday gift to you is 'heavy' by Delta Goodrem. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. Another amazingly talented Aussie 👌
Oh your comment about his jaw hits so hard knowing about the recent cancer operation on his jaw 😢 just devastating. I can’t imagine how he and his family are feeling.
Gave me chills to. How lucky am I to have had John singing fir me me whole life. Us Aussues are so blessed , John is a man Diva. He is our Barbara or Celine. He is the absolute best. Love John and by all accounts a lovely, lovely man too. I love his version of help so much
Definitely a Master Enhancer - theres way more to come. ❤❤❤
The way he developed his voice over the years with that steady technique grounding him, adding that vocal fry to create one of the greatest rock voices of all time is really amazing.
John is such an amazing singer! One of the best!
"The conviction here!" - I think that sums John Farnham up perfectly. The guy doesn't do it by halves. Love your Farnsey reviews, thanks Nina, and happy birthday!
Thank you kindly!
Ah memories! The Don Lane Show. It's funny how you remember a great performer. How they take you through your life. I'm nearly 70 and I'm an Australian and John Farnham ìs up there with the Stones and the Beatles as sounds that have moved my life
Genius
Omg that was when he was so young❤️❤️❤️
Happy Birthday Nina,I’ve been waiting with anticipation for you to look at John Farnham after His rendition of Help, which was the last song of that 2+ hour concert. You can actually purchase the extended version on dvd ,in the meantime have a look at playing more from this concert it will blow you away.John is now 73 and his voice change little ,but you will enjoy he and Olivia Newton John (1998) singing Please Don’t Ask Me,it will bring tears …Enjoy
Thanks Brian!
Happy Birthday Nina. Hope you have a fantastic day & all the best for the coming year.
Thank you so much!
Oh wow. He's so good! Shameful fact: this is the first time I've ever heard John Farnham. I'm so sorry, everyone. I'm also getting Justin Hayward/War of the Worlds vibes, albeit in a slightly deeper voice - but maybe that's just an original-era mullet thing? LOL. Anyway HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Nina! It's my birthday too, of course. Go figure. What a good Friday this is! Love your reaction, thank you!
He’s just a baby here. You should watch his live performance of HELP with the Melbourne Symphony orchestra- you’ll be hooked once you see it! ❤
Thanks so much!!
In 1979 John was possibly at his lowest professional output - yet his voice was never better. In the radio you could hear John during commercial breaks singing for a bank. His friends in the industry got together and knowing the talent encouraged the ABC to do a series of John Farnham shows. These shows are incredible captures of one of the greatest vocalists. This is one of those performances.
Happy birthday Nina and a great reaction. It's just about impossible not to be impressed with John Farnham - no matter what he sings, he knocks it out of the park. There's lots of super talented Aussie female vocalists you might like too. Saw you have reacted to a Tina Arena song already. She's always great as are Vanessa Amorossi (Have A Look, Absolutely Everybody) and Vika and Linda (especially their vocals with the Black Sorrows - The Chosen Ones, Chained To The Wheel).
Happy Birthday Nina!
Agree with people saying watch 2003 when the war is over it is brilliant
I love Simon & Garfunkel BUT Johns version is just so beautiful and gives me goosebumps every time. Nina, Have you seen John cover of Loves in Need yet. Its acapella with his band. Youll love it ❤
Your journey with John should include something from when he was still a teenager. Right back in the beginning. I think you will get a kick out of seeing/hearing just how good his voice was even back then. This is a song he wrote himself and recorded as an 18 year old.

The little brown suit.. so excited to see this!!
@@Dr_KAP I knew you would be excited 😊
That was baby John. When no one in Australia or America would sign him. They were sorry when his friend and new manager used his home and everything he owned to make The Whispering Jack album. Then he had to get radio stations to play it. Glenn changed radio in Australia. That album stayed at number one for just over 6 months. Thank you.
Oh wow! Thanks for watching and for the info Karen 🙏🏻
Oh.....and Happy Birthday!! 🎉
The best voice in the world, Have you watched his docco?
absolutely brilliant for me, he once again does a version of a song but makes it his own, he did it different, 2nd part for me shows how amazing the original version was from the 70's duo
Live. Magnificent ❤❤❤❤
D5s like they're nothing. Extraordinary talent.
Another great analysis! Thank you! 🎉🎉
@5:40 "The conviction here" ... Yeah, for real
Happy Birthday Ms. Nina. 🎉
Thank you!
I got the goosebumps as well lol.
Nina, happy birthday! I wish you good luck, success and great happiness!!! ❤🌹🍷
Thank you!! 🎉
Best version ever pure Gold, just love this man
He knows how to give life to a song. Every syllable is important
I'm Australian and we love him. He wasn't formally trained. He's an Australian icon. He is 70 now and recovering from cancer. Listen to all his stuff, you will love it.
Happy birthday Nina, love your reactions. Would love to see you react to another Aussie cover. Kasey Chambers' cover of Eminem's' Lose Yourself. One of the most emotive performances I've ever witnessed, both haunting and epic. I reckon you'll love it, I've seen others react to it and they are all left speechless. Keep up the great content. Love from Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️
Thank you so much Ian!
John can sing anything
Although people know him as an Australian, he was born in Essex England, apparently he is seriously ill in hospital at the moment in Australia, real TALENTED ARTIST 🇬🇧.
Oh come on Steve don’t try to claim him as English. He’s lived his life in Melbourne Australia, didn’t want to tour internationally because he didn’t want to be away from his home and family. He’s as Aussie as a kangaroo. My great great grandma was born in Ireland doesn’t mean I’m Irish.
People don’t know him as Australian- he is Australian. Where you are born doesn’t determine your national identity. You can’t get more Aussie than our boy Farnsey!
Bob Hope was born in the UK. Nobody regarded him as British.
@@aussiepie4865 doesn't alter fact that he was born in England, next you will saying the bee gees are Australian
Thanks Scoop ! His passbook reads he is Australian & lives in Australia , Where he came into this world is over There & that's where it ends , He is Australian 100% Yes he was in hospital to have cancer cut out of his mouth , He was at home in Australia Recovering When he Recently got mouth infection & Went back into hospital 🇦🇺🏄♂️🏖👍
If you like Bette Midler's Wind beneath my wings, check out John Farnham's Wind Beneath My Wings @ the 1986 NRL (NSWRL) GRAND FINAL. It's mind blowing.🥰
simply put, JF is a master
I love musical time travel. What a hoot. You should lusten to hus Acdc cover It's a long way to the top and/or his sound check/warm up (yes) song Black Dog
Loved this version. Love him.
So young here 💕💕
Belated happy birthday Nina🎉❤❤❤
Thank you!
And that’s a really tough song to sing. The range!
There is a copy of John singing Russels shopping list on Saturday night live.
He also did a FANTASTIC Jesus Christ Super Star with Kate Cebrano. There is a great film-clip of the song, or you can search the cast doing a version on Hey Hey it's Saturday in a more informal environment. (Kate another great Australian Singer of the ages.)
Is there anyone better ❤❤❤ Try this one singing Georgia in about 1980 ❤❤❤
The best.
It is widely said that John has never had vocal "training".. Mind you he has worked with many, many fantastic singers over the years and has learned (and taught) many great techniques. You must watch his version of Amazing Grace live with Vanetta and Lyndsay and you will see what I mean.
He is so very young here.. and he got even better every year for 50 more years
There's a reason they call him 'THE VOICE' !
John Farnham is a rare kind of a one trick pony. He's simply the best.
It was your birthday but we got the gift 😂❤ thank you and happy birthday
