😊it's not a reinvention by him, he's just redoing the "Little River Band " version from 20 yrs earlier .... now that's an iconic Aussie band (which he was in) .... but I remember seeing Little johnny Fareham doing Sadie and raindrops 😂😂

@@kathleenmayhorne3183 Exactly. He gives 100 %and the fans were giving all that joy back to him. Performers must live for something like that. It was pretty special to watch.
What a shame the world never got to see this talent . Iam 70 and had never heard of him until a month ago and i grew up with voices like Tom Jones Englebert , Roy Orbison and all the great sngers after them but this man is a cut above them in sheer vocal talent.
Be prepared as you don’t know the door you have opened, this man can sing any genre of song and make it sound magnificent, welcome to a true legend, you have so much more to explore! 😜
He shreds Black Dog by Led Zeppelin AS A SOUND CHECK (hence no video only audio taken by crew) ruclips.net/video/F2Yi6TVi-sU/видео.html and comes out with You're the Voice and Touch of Paradise never mind his rendition of AC DCs it's a long way to the top or Cold Chisel's When the War is Over or S&G's Bridge over troubled waters. Farnsy could sing the phone book and it would chart and chart strongly!
I have been anticipating your reaction to this song for years. I knew John's voice was special, but your analysis of his techniques used were exceptional. When he sings that part after that Sax, I get chills every time, even after hearing it 100's of times over the decades. Thank you
The cool thing about the audience singing by themselves at the beginning, is that they were actually singing the melody that John uses as opposed to the Beatles original, even though John had not yet sung it. They all knew his version.
@@shauns5680 be kind. She's there to provide specialist analysis of John's voice, which is difficult when the audience takes over and John listens to them. It was right at the beginning and the fairy hadn't watched the emotional "sharing" of the song like we have many times. She didn't say anything derogatory. It was fascinating listening to her technical analysis of the physiology of John's "noise making". I guess that's the ICU nurse in me.
@Shaun S she was being tongue in heels there champ. Yeah Farnesys connection with the audience is unparalleled imo. Wouldn't be surprised if the complete arrangement was to have the audience sing those 3 times. Great analysis miss, even to correct yourself at the end saying how John mightn't even be planning those distortion moments, I agree, I think he just feels just as much as he is conscious of using certain techniques. Very self aware and honest of you in your great observations 👏🏻
The thing about Farnsy is that it's all natural. At this time he was a heavy smoker too! He started out as a teenager and got a little raspier over the years as he matured. It goes without saying that he worked damn hard to be the best that he could be, but he is simply gifted! He can sing anything. He delivers quality performance after quality performance and is always grateful and super respectful to his audience and those on stage with him. An iconic artist and the most amazing human being! He tried to retire so many times but the audience wouldn't let him! Hahaha. What a legend! Get well Farnsy! 💕
Funny you brought up Celine Dion. She actually cites John Farnham as one of her biggest inspirations growing up. There is a video on YT of her singing John's 'You're the Voice' in Melbourne in IIRC 2018. John joined her on stage to sing the song and at almost 70 years old, still sung it in the same key with the microphone still at times at least a foot away from his mouth due to his power (his microphone technique IMHO is as good as anyone). One of the notes he hit even startled Celine. You could see Celine was genuinely star struck singing with him and in an interview a year later mentioned that moment singing with him is something she'll never forget. High praise indeed!
@Matt Bond what part are you saying she did heaps in the states? She's sang You're the Voice quite a bit in concerts over the years, however she has only ever sang it with John that one time in Melbourne in 2018, which was what I was talking about.
If you want more soul from John - Something is Wrong with my Baby (with Jimmy Barnes - music video) If you want to see him push his vocals into his fifties - When the War is Over (Live: The Last Time) Each one a masterclass. Great Video. Thank you for this.
You can also try it's a long way to top if you want to Rock'n'Roll(ACDC), Blackdog (Led Zeppelin) Granada with Anthony Warlow, Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar & his signature song You're the Voice from this concert, Playingto win, Touch of Paradise. Its best to watch John live & then you can try Jimmy Barnes & Cold Chisel & 50 or so years of Aussie Rock'n'Roll music. Years of enjoyment to go.
John sings all genres beautifully. ALWAYS GO LIVE to get the full benefit. He is currently recovering from mouth cancer treatment including jaw reconstruction, so we are lucky to have over 50 years of music from him to enjoy.
Up to whispering Jack Down on the Border with little river band was his greatest vocal song and he’s so young he’s voice is electric that’s Freedom & Burn for you, Pressure down has 12 million views now it’s to hard to choose they are all so good and they were needed at the time like Midnight oil he sensed what the country needed❤
The crowd are shouting for Sadie John's first song . John was born in England and moved to Australia when he was 2. This song is at the end of a 2 hour concert. John can sing anything. John Lennon said this is was the way 5he song was intended to have been done.Queen asked John to be their frontman when Freddie passed away. You want to check out youre the voice, playing to win and its a long way to the top ACDC cover from the same concert. So many other amazing songs when the war is over also a song with Jimmy Barnes another great Australian singer when something is wrong with my baby. John is 73 now and recovering from an operation for mouth cancer which he had last August and all wish him well. Great reaction thank you. From 🏴
The rattle is loved by Australians. We love him. He made my youth great! He's so sick now which is sad but a beautiful man. Listen to You're The Voice. Also Farnsey singing with Barnsey (Jimmy Barnes).
John never had singing lessons. Everything he does is a God given talent. Celine fan gushed when given the chance to sing this with John. So who's the goat? I would suggest his 1992 live performance in Sydney of Gethsemane to start, then When Something is Wrong With My Baby, with Jimmy Barnes and Diesel. The Hey Hey it's Saturday live version is brilliant.
John was two years into his apprenticeship as a plumber before he had his first hit with "Sadie, the Cleaning Lady" in 1967 as an 18 year old. He must have practiced his singing while he was working on toilets and fitting taps. Jokingly I have heard him say "I do my best singing in the Shower" and non-jokingly that he still has all his plumbing tools. We have grown up with John in our lounge rooms since the black and white TV days of the late 60s through to nearly now. Similarly we grew up with the Bee Gees on our TVs from 1960 through to the mid-seventies.
He’s The Voice and is just simply amazing. Even more than that he is a brilliant entertainer and a bit of a comedian! He is a wonderful human, always singing his heart out when this country was in drought, floods or fire to raise money for those who needed it. He also entertained the troops when they were overseas. He loved his Aussie audience and would wave and point to those he knew in the audience. He loves us and we love him, we have grown up together with him. He encourages his audience to sing along with him so they go to full voice! He loves his band members and always highlights them, in this performance he tells the audience that Mark Dennison is playing sax and then the MSO at the end of his performance. His band and backup singers have been together for decades. He is our favourite son!
You have been listening to and watching Australian John Farnham who is a singing genius. He has a huge vocal range, sings in over 20 genres, has a very successful career spanning six decades, is a consummate showman, has sung with a number of famous singers, is respected throughout the music industry and loved by the Australian public.
Farham's big solo hit was "You're The Voice", and with Little River Band, it was "Playin' To Win". Either of those songs will thrill you, and would make good video fodder for the channel. Yes, he always has that husky rasp, no matter how insanely high he goes in his range. One of my faves!
Also John didn't actually have a choir for that concert. What you're hearing is his 3 extremely talented backing singers (Vanetta Fields, Lisa Edwards and Lindsay Field) and the crowd. That's it!
@sopwithpuppy she would also do anything for John after he took her under his wing and gave her the environment, the love and the respect she deserved after some of the treatment she received from previous artists. She even said when she retired, John only had to call her for help and she'd be there beside him in a heartbeat. You could see that love and respect for each other when they sang that spine tingling version of Amazing Grace together with Lindsay.
@@devilsadvocate2548 Love that performance of Amazing Grace - ruclips.net/video/6danLkCJoFI/видео.html. Starts with a very slow solo by Venetta, followed by Farnsey solo, then together, then Lindsay and piano join. Builds throughout. Brilliant!
Thank you for your funny, technical reaction and appreciation of our phenomenal National treasure, John Farnham! Like many Australians I have loved John and his amazing band of talented musicians for 50+ years. Please watch more of John Farnham…there’s heaps more!!!
Such a great interpretation of the Beatles'classic! Definitely made it his own and much more epic in my opinion. Our John can literally sing any genre.
I believe the crowd were chanting "Sadie" which was a big (novelty) hit for him back in the late 60s. He wasn't keen on doing it later in his career but did every now and then.
Apparently this version came about because John was learning to play the song on the piano and liked the slower version. He can sing anything from rock to opera. There is a video of Celine Dion fangirlibg on John when she was touring Australia. Apparently she had been following him on RUclips for 20 years. She included his song You’re the Voice in her tour in 2018. John joined her on stage in Melbourne.
Very interesting to watch someone who actually understands and can explain how his voice works. Thankyou that was amazing. You should check him out singing Gethsemane. Would love to hear your thoughts on that
Agree then again. And live. Everyone has a favourite Gethsemane artist but I love John Farnhams approach as you can really hear his passion in the live performance and its a rock interpretation. Thanks 😊! Just stumbled upon your channel.
John Farnham is one of my all -time favourite singers. You really must listen to more of his wonderful repertoire. Start with "The Voice" or "When The War Is Over". Then go to Jimmy Barnes with "Stone Cold" ft. Joe Bonamassa. Both John and Jimmy are legends in Australia. There's so much talent there that we've not been exposed to. Shame!
Lovely video once again :) John Farnham has one of the greatest voices of all time, such a beautiful blend of warm pop/rnb tone and stylings with a rock rasp, belt and range. I would highly suggest listening to his performance of ‘Bridge over troubled water’, it is beautiful and so stupidly impressive.
You are such a delight to watch and love how you explain the technicalities of singing, which we just do not understand. But we know when we here a great singer.
12:16 one of the best reactions I’ve seen to that moment. Mine is the only one that matches, plus “just a voice“ and “that singer reactions“. They had awesome reactions to that particular vocal moment. So open and free!
John has just turned 74. Last year he underwent an 11 hour surgery to remove cancer from his jaw. He’s apparently doing well but I don’t think we’ll ever hear him sing again. John has given us 50 plus years of pure magic.
You are honestly the best vocal technician out of all the amazing vocal technicians I personally have ever seen on you tube. But do you know what is so funny about everyone's analysis of Johns technique? It's that he is NOT trained! He hasn't ever had a minute of vocal training, he is literally, the voice!
Most greats were never "trained" especially muso's, not just singers, just like painters etc the greats, the real deal if you will don't need someone less than them supposedly teaching them
Do you know what I love the most. When a real Singer, and especially a Vocal Coach realises in the first line this is going to be special, and then they get the shivers as John starts to expand his voice, and then when they start moving their heads in an exaggerated way to try and imitate the same vocal cord, palate, mouth, throat and nasal volumes and movements, or trying to get their ears or eyes to follow the notes up and down the scale, while opening ears and eyes to try and absorb every emotion. All of us mere mortals just get a tear in the corner of eyes because we don't understand what he is doing to us. lol. Anyway here is some of my recommendations to start the journey. This concert was advertised as John and his Big Band in typical Aussie understatement, it's a 100+ piece orchestra for crying out loud. lol A couple of songs worth checking have been mentioned below, plus these are worth a look also. The reason you haven't heard of him is because the US music industry is a closed little club. When John Farnham went to the US they didn't know which genre to put him in so his US promotions manager got him a couple of gigs in a little jazz club, where the MC introduced him as Jack Phantom. Couldn't even be bothered getting his name correct, so being a bit disheartened he wandered home to concentrate on his loyal fan base. The experience did give him inspiration to write a couple of good songs about missing his familiy, like this one. Burn For You.. ruclips.net/video/4PPvOhPspEA/видео.html Notice how he holds the mike below his chest, both mikes are a metre away, which he does all the time to not drown out the other singers. John and Lisa Edwards, a top singer in her own right, and one of John's back up singers for 20+ years. Angels.. ruclips.net/video/5_2NJRIdBO8/видео.html This one with Olivia Newton John, who we have recently lost. John has also had major cancer surgery including removal of part of his jaw and we may not here him sing again. So let's enjoy this one as well.. Please Don't Ask Me.. ruclips.net/video/2uV_tZODfK8/видео.html And even when he is singing with one of the most powerful voices on the planet, Jimmy Barnes, he still put the mike away from his face and closer to Jonny Diesel on guitar. When Something Is Wrong With My Baby.... ruclips.net/video/9H0aHyjzWsQ/видео.html
In Australia John is know as "The Voice". He has a vocal range of almost 2.8 octaves. John has also performed on stage with Tom Jones, Celine Dion, Olivia Newton John, Jimmy Barnes and many others. If you really want to give your ears a treat, "You're The Voice" LIVE with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The song was written for his. Heart have done a cover of You're the voice. Many artists have performed You're The Voice on stage with John.
John can sing just about any genre and has a 3+ octave vocal range. He’s certainly up there with the best male vocalists of all time and I think you’re right, John’s uvula swinging is involuntary and gives his voice a very recognisable sound that permeates through all his performances. Thanks for an informative reaction!
You MUST check out his "Gethsemane" from his JC Superstar tour 1995 - "Granada" (with Anthony Warlow) & "Please Don't Ask Me" (with Olivia Newton John) from the Main Event Concert Tour - and his other songs "You're The Voice", "Through a Tear", "One", Reasons", the one he wrote "Burn for You" and the song he thinks of me whenever he sings "Have A Little Faith (in us)" [yes there is a story, he calls me "Red in Blue"] He does soul, country, musical theatre, pop, rock, and anything else you want to throw at him! INJECTION: No choir just his usual three backing vocalists Lisa Edwards (blonde) Venetta Fields and Lindsay Field - all solo performers in their own rights! (and maybe some of the rest of the band) but most likely the crowd singing along (we always sing along!) And yes he's never really been "Trained" he just sings! I guess he's now been trained along the way cos 2020 age 70yo he was still hitting those high Bb's just as powerfully controlled. SADLY it is unlikely he will sing again having undergone surgery to remove oral cancer tumor which took part of his jaw. He is recovering but probably won't finish recording the album the surgery interrupted. However after giving 250% to a gazillion performances and a million songs over the last 55 years, I think he's done enough for us all! I'm So So glad the world (via RUclips) are discovering him and giving him the world accolades he so richly deserves! 💫 Thanks for a brilliant reaction video! Best so far!!! 💖CHOOKAS! 🐨😎🦘 PS, Interesting that you threw Celine Dion in - she LOVES him and covers his anthem song "You're the Voice" ... Listen to Farnham in Little River Band in the early 80’s. There was a concert with him done in Melbourne with these guys. I’m 59 and have sung in bands all my life and was heavily influenced by metal. I got the chance to hear John with Little River Band in Joliet Illinois on this tour and to date, it’s by far the best vocal performance I’ve ever heard. Listen to Cool Change, Reminiscing, We Too…Heck.. if I were you, I’d listen to the whole thing. You’ll be glad you did. Amazing!! John was young and on fire. Pretty much my favorite vocalist ever. Also, icing on the cake are the harmonies LRB provide. Spot on beautiful!! Now I have to listen the that concert. 🥰✌🏻
Being Australian, Farnsy has always just been there. My favourite John Farnham song is One (is the loneliest number). Funny thing is that in that video you are seeing him 22 years into a 50+ year career. Get well Johnny, cancer is a bitch. We all love you.
Australian legend 🇦🇺 the live performance of When The War Is Over is a great song especially for showing off his vocal skills and passion and also from that same concert you just played your the voice
Totally agree! AND if you want some Australian Screaming try John Farnham with Jimmy Barnes and Vin Diesel from 1991 ... ruclips.net/video/AU_bCchDWF4/видео.html
Thank you. I've been longing for you to find John. I'm not going to ask for more. 1989 John is all over the internet now. Real John had a 13 hour operation for mouth cancer. I just hope he'll be able to talk properly when he has recovered, so his jokey self can still exist in his family life. He's given us plenty. He doesn't owe us anything. P.S. I've been to John concerts. His fans interfered so much. He always handles it with grace.
The rasp started to fade as time went on and he stopped chain smoking. Check out his Last Time concert, his voice was in PEAK form and he was having a ball. Goosebumps every time.
You're the Voice is the classic John Farnham song that EVERY Australian knows and tries to sing along with in spite of the fact that it's physically impossible for most of us (John is a glorious freak of vocal nature). I'm always proud to see a foreigner reacting to John's music, because while he was content to be appreciated just in Australia, I feel like it's unfair of us to keep him to ourselves.
I watch you do this again and you definitely tell when you enjoy certain parts your voice goes deeper You looked so happy that you look like a lie down 😘 love the reaction you keep pointing to us down under 🤣🤣🤣🦘🇦🇺👍
So happy you were able to react to this. You pretty much went off at each and every point I thought you would. At the start of the video the crowd are chanting “Sadie”. It was John’s first hit song in the 60’s and it’s a bit of a comedic interplay he now has with fans. He claims to hate singing it so they chant for him to sing it. Commenters above have already given you a great list of songs if you wanted to do further listening. I’ll just add, where possible find good quality live versions. His recorded work is fantastic but you get full tilt John when you go to the live performances. Absolutely loved this Lolli. Thanks again for picking up the suggestion. I knew you’d get a kick out of John ❤️
Oh. If you loved this, check out his song, Burn. He wrote it for his wife, it is about how he feels when on tour for so long. Every time he sang it at a show he got very emotional and quite often tears ran down his face.
One thing I love about this reaction is all the 'Lolli singing samples'! Such a treat! You've got a really nice voice, dear sweet Fairy Voice Mother! And with all your knowledge, plus your amazing ability, one knows you're placing it and projecting it in exactly the ways of your choosing, not like someone just allowing their voice to flow into the most comfortable (or in my case, possible) areas. Love it! Want more!!! ❤
Up until recently and his heath scares etc. Every single live performance was always passionately delivered. His stage presence and humour is incredible. A legend
Glad you loved John Farnham. He is so famous here in Australia. Please, please, please listen to his song "You're the Voice". It's like an anthem here. It's brilliant. I'm sure you'll be impressed. Unfortunately a few months ago John was diagnosed with mouth cancer, had major surgery, and will probably never sing again. It's so heartbreaking, for someone so talented. 😢
He has done an amazing job his whole life. He is self taught as a singer. He was a pack a day smoker. Also just an absolute legend when I met him on operational deployment in East Timor. I love him and hope he lives on forever 🎼
John's first hit as a teen pop idol was "Sadie (the cleaning lady)". He pretends to hate it and teases the audience that he will/won't sing it. They tease back by chanting "Sadie. Sadie" for it. He rarely sings it, but when he does, it is done in fun. If you listen to Gethsemane, where he is singing as Jesus in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, he doesn't utilise the distortion on the notes he sings in this song, but he fries on the top note (G5?) which fits the emotion of the song at that point.
He's a national treasure here in Australia, and through out the world. One of the best singers live , would have to be one of the top 10 in the world for sure he'd be up there with Freddie Mercury another great vocalist artist and they both love the audience participation and are genuinely a nice guy. He is a legend
When The War Is Over by John Farnham at his 2003 The Last Time concert in Melbourne - brilliant show of his vocal range (at age 54) and the beautiful duet with Olivia Newton-John, Please Don’t Ask Me, at The Main Event concert. But anything John sings will have you enthralled - he is a performer who commands your attention with every note. No half measures by John - 110% every song, every time since he burst onto the Aus music scene when he was 19 years old.
The Australian GOAT. Technically flawless and an absolute powerhouse on any song he put his golden pipes too. Tom Jones even rated him as the greatest live vocalist of all time.
It's said that John Lennon heard Farnham do this version and said THIS is how that song should have been performed. You can't get any more endorsement than that. A good example of the quality and vocal ability of Farnsey, you should listen to (there is no video as it was quietly recorded by the sound engineer only) his concert warm-up version of Zeppelin's Black Dog. It's an epic example of how good he really is.
They are chanting "SADIE" 😁 His first song was "Sadie the Cleaning Lady" in 1969 We constantly tease him about it! 😄 This is the last song of a 2 hour concert (before encores - "You're the voice" and "It's a Long Way to the Top" - you gotta listen to them!) and possibly the 10th concert in a row. I am so happy you meet him on this song. I hope you check out all his other songs! You are so going to love our John!!! 💖 I LOVE your technical explanation - THANK YOU! 💖 CHOOKAS! 🐨😎🦘
Aussie here also and probably a technically terrible front man for a fairly average rock band still at 48. I had the privilege of seeing John in concert a few times as a kid, "Burn for You" still gives me chills. Just an acoustic guitar and Farnsy. It was him that inspired my love for singing, never had a singing lesson, know nothing about music, just go by sound and feel. Got into it at 16 when my mate bet me $20 I wouldn't try out for the school musical. Scariest thing ever, but 30 years later and haven't looked back. There is still nothing that makes you feel alive like singing in front of a crowd, even as an old bugger doing house parties and local festivals. Have to admit FVM, I'm crushing on you a bit ;) Just love your channel, your personality and I'd love to hear more of you singing. Easily my fav online vocal coach. Bring on more Aussies!
You should also listen to his performance of "You're the Voice" from the same concert. It is also so very powerful and one of the reasons why he is called "the Voice" there in Australia.
Just discovered your vids and you are informative and fun to watch. So many good Aussie singers JIMMY BARNES ,JOHN FARNHAM , VENESSA AMOROSI , ICEHOUSE (man of colours with Michael Paynter) , Cold Chisel Bow River and When the war is over. So many incredible vocalists from Australia to feast your vocal reaction.
John can sing anything . He ranges from Lead Zeppelin, Black dog , way over to Grenada , an opera with Anthony Warlow , then back again to love songs like Please dont't ask me with Olivia Newton John . Another good one is his duet with Jimmy Barns , When something is wrong with my baby. All are outstanding.
What you may not know, john is a natural talent having never had a singing lesson, he just opened his mouth one day and realised he could sing. Its a tragedy that we may never hear those awesome pipes live again as he recovers from mouth cancer.
John has an amazing voice, very powerful and connected. John is currently fighting mouth cancer, and we that know him wish him a full and speedy recovery. You should react to John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes singing 'When Somethiing Is Wrong With My Baby', two of Australias premier voices. Also, Home Free has released several new songs since you last reached to them, consider giving them a listen.
This song is sung at the end of nearly 3 hrs of singing by the legendary John farnham 😊🎶🎶. Yes he was tired but he gave it everything he had. I was there❤️❤️❤️❤️
I think at the beginning when John says “this is an oldie but a goodie”, the crowd is chanting ‘Sadie’. This was John’s first hit back in the 60’s. A couple of other singing masterpieces from The a voice is him singing Black Dog and better still Gethsemane on the final night.
I'm so glad you found him. In Australia, he has a number of nicknames, including the most apt "The Voice". He. Is. Amazing. - which I will always use in the present tense because he is also a beautiful, kind and funny person. I don't know if he could still perform after his surgery to remove mouth surgery at the end of last year, and he's currently in hospital with a respiratory at the age of 73. On another note, I was literally blown away by your voice as well. Wow. I look forward to listening to you sing a full song. 😍

Welcome to the big rabbit hole of 70 odd years of the best in the business Mr John Farnham.
Preach!!!
Here's him doing a classical piece 'Grenada' with Anthony Warlow (also showing his sense of humour).
ruclips.net/video/K6uxFKmCXB8/видео.html
Agreed. Pack a lunch, it's a hella deep rabbit hole. Enjoy.
Think she is the only person I have heard have a go at him for letting the audience sing along
John Lennon said when this version was released that he had wanted it sung as a ballad originally and he and Paul gave this version their approval.
@@cgkennedy did he though? I've heard this story, never found a source for it. "The Don Lane Show" is the best I can find so far.
She did it heaps back in the States too
@Matt Bond what part are you saying she did heaps in the states? She's sang You're the Voice quite a bit in concerts over the years, however she has only ever sang it with John that one time in Melbourne in 2018, which was what I was talking about.
She also bowed to him, giving him the honor he truly deserves.
@@damientaylor7480 plus a standing ovation from her band. Celine was in full 'fan girl' mode!
I haven’t seen that performance. A must watch, me thinks. Thankyou.
If you want more soul from John - Something is Wrong with my Baby (with Jimmy Barnes - music video) If you want to see him push his vocals into his fifties - When the War is Over (Live: The Last Time) Each one a masterclass. Great Video. Thank you for this.
Great suggestions
The "hey hey it's Saturday "performance of when something is wrong with my baby is probably my favourite performance of the song.
@@BobarissGish Yes, definitely the best rendition!
With Jimmy it has to be live, especially from Hey Hey it's Saturday Show. Perfect.
John sings all genres beautifully. ALWAYS GO LIVE to get the full benefit. He is currently recovering from mouth cancer treatment including jaw reconstruction, so we are lucky to have over 50 years of music from him to enjoy.
Bump for the recommendation to ALWAYS chose a live version.
John Farnham’s most famous song is “You’re the Voice” - the informal Australian national anthem. It’s fabulous!
Had no idea he's OZ ... but it's a fabulous song. One of the true landmarks of the 80s.
@@rickardelimaa tell that to Sadie!!!
@@ianmontgomery7534 even John is embarrassed by Sadie 😂
Up to whispering Jack Down on the Border with little river band was his greatest vocal song and he’s so young he’s voice is electric that’s Freedom & Burn for you, Pressure down has 12 million views now it’s to hard to choose they are all so good and they were needed at the time like Midnight oil he sensed what the country needed❤
John was born in UK
The man is an Australian legend. Always watch him live. Sensational performer and extremely nice guy.
He has been singing since the late 1960’s !
@@billconstantine7248 I've been listening to him since Sadie.
Thanks for reacting to the voice and Australia’s greatest ever vocalist, and to me the worlds greatest.
John has said that he has never been formally trained. He is basically a naturally talented singer. He has a unique voice, that is just epic.
I was in that audience. Farnsy is the best pop vocalist I have ever heard. And his stage presence is without peer. Magic night.
One of my faves!
he wrote playing to win
He was not trained to sing which makes him more amazing although he probably got advice layer on. Listen to Playing To Win.
He did record this in the early 80s. This performance was in 1989, hence the "oldy but a goody".
Also John didn't actually have a choir for that concert. What you're hearing is his 3 extremely talented backing singers (Vanetta Fields, Lisa Edwards and Lindsay Field) and the crowd. That's it!
In my honest opinion, Vanetta Fields is by far THE best backup singer BAR NONE. EVER. THAT GOOD.
Brilliant!
Three songs: You're the Voice, Burn For You, A Touch of Paradise.
As usual, as supreme analysis! Thank you very much! John has become one of my favorite singers in recent years.
I believe the crowd were chanting "Sadie" which was a big (novelty) hit for him back in the late 60s. He wasn't keen on doing it later in his career but did every now and then.
It is Sadie. There will ALWAYS be people shouting for Sadie.
Check out John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes singing When something is wrong with my baby
@@lindsaypolkinghorne22 live from ‘Hey Hey it’s Saturday’!
Very interesting to watch someone who actually understands and can explain how his voice works. Thankyou that was amazing. You should check him out singing Gethsemane. Would love to hear your thoughts on that
Agreed, she does a very good job and whilst still keeping it fun!
Agree then again. And live. Everyone has a favourite Gethsemane artist but I love John Farnhams approach as you can really hear his passion in the live performance and its a rock interpretation. Thanks 😊! Just stumbled upon your channel.
💯 she was fantastic!
That was an awesome reaction. I look forward to more John Farnham (and other Aussie singers) reactions from you. Hugs from Oz
John Farnham is one of my all -time favourite singers. You really must listen to more of his wonderful repertoire. Start with "The
Voice" or "When The War Is Over". Then go to Jimmy Barnes with "Stone Cold" ft. Joe Bonamassa. Both John and Jimmy are legends in Australia. There's so much talent there that we've not been exposed to. Shame!
You have to watch his "When the war is over" from his "Last Time" concert. The 3rd verse will literally give you goosebumps.
Watch the Thames men
John has just turned 74.
Thank you so much lovely! That’s so kind 🥰 John is amazing.
This concert was advertised as John and his Big Band in typical Aussie understatement, it's a 100+ piece orchestra for crying out loud. lol
A couple of songs worth checking have been mentioned below, plus these are worth a look also.

Notice how he holds the mike below his chest, both mikes are a metre away, which he does all the time to not drown out the other singers.
John and Lisa Edwards, a top singer in her own right, and one of John's back up singers for 20+ years.
Angels..

This one with Olivia Newton John, who we have recently lost. John has also had major cancer surgery including removal of part of his jaw and we may not here him sing again. So let's enjoy this one as well..
Please Don't Ask Me..

And even when he is singing with one of the most powerful voices on the planet, Jimmy Barnes, he still put the mike away from his face and closer to Jonny Diesel on guitar.

if memory serves was half past 86 when this concert happened and was his second encore after 2.5hrs on stage
I just love your reactions and explanations. The Voice deserves no less.
One of the best live singers ever
Australian legend that can sing just about any style
(and maybe some of the rest of the band) but most likely the crowd singing along (we always sing along!)
And yes he's never really been "Trained" he just sings!
Thanks for a brilliant reaction video! Best so far!!! 💖CHOOKAS! 🐨😎🦘
PS, Interesting that you threw Celine Dion in - she LOVES him and covers his anthem song "You're the Voice" ... AND Speaking of covers, Sir Paul said this "Help" rendition was how he had envisioned his song to be, AND Tina Turner loved this cover of "Help" so much, she covered his cover! How COOL is that!!! 😎
John sings any genre always live is better you get his passion
Known for his Ballard's rock theatre opera its hard to pick a song as so many different types
He has 5 decades of no1s in Australia 🇦🇺 was still able to hit notes at 73 but we won't see him sing again as recovering from cancer of the jaw where they removed and reconstructed his jaw but his was in good spirits going by family and that's another reason he's loved by Aussies just a great bloke no one has a bad word for him in the industry either he's a real people person
If you watch more of his music you'll notice he always stands back and brings a band member forward like the saxophone guy in this
My suggestion would be his AC/DC cover along way to the top with Melbourne symphony orchestra and conductor and orchestra are having a ball just for that reason only because no matter what he sings it full on nothing left on the plate
He does a song called the voice with Melbourne symphony orchestra and was also named the voice
Many international star came over to sing with John on their tours
Tom Jones sung with John many times he was here
Also sung with your girl Celine Dion she absolutely loved singing with John
Ray Charles was another multiple bands did duo's
John didn't like to be away from his wife and kids so rarely travelled overseas
Mainly stayed in Australia why lots of international star organised to tour here and sing with him
At out football half time break they had Robbie Williams as entertainment he sung one of John songs in respect for him while he's recovering there was a 100,000 audience singing John song
So even though John never travelled over the pond much he was extremely well known in the entertainment industry by alot of big stars
Through everything John always remained himself and has fun also a bit of a comedian it's pretty much a Aussie triat we all have fun and take the piss out of each other for a laugh that's when you know a Aussie likes you and he never lost it didn't matter who he was around
You was say about gravelly voice you'll need to check out our other ledgen 4 decade's of songs Jimmy barnes him and John are great friends and did duo's together if in same place at same time they'd just drop in on the other and get invited to go on stage and sing a song together Jimmy has the same love and following as John
Hope this small bit of back ground helps

Listen to Farnham in Little River Band in the early 80’s. There was a concert with him done in Melbourne with these guys. I’m 59 and have sung in bands all my life and was heavily influenced by metal. I got the chance to hear John with Little River Band in Joliet Illinois on this tour and to date, it’s by far the best vocal performance I’ve ever heard.
Welcome to what we Australians call The Voice, as he is known by here.
Your the Voice from the same concert, no questions, if's or but's, there is his next song you do!!
I watch you do this again and you definitely tell when you enjoy certain parts your voice goes deeper
You looked so happy that you look like a lie down 😘 love the reaction you keep pointing to us down under 🤣🤣🤣🦘🇦🇺👍
So happy you were able to react to this.
Dear Lady, thank you. You, in my opinion, you are the most enjoyable reactor by far. ❤❤❤❤
Oh those “ good ole days “. The hair, the voice.
He has done an amazing job his whole life. He is self taught as a singer. He was a pack a day smoker. Also just an absolute legend when I met him on operational deployment in East Timor. I love him and hope he lives on forever 🎼
Love your commentary. Wonderful expertise made comically interesting. Please do John Farnham and Olivia Newton John "please dont ask me" thanx
Would love to see you react to John Farnham ‘You’re The Voice’ live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Pretty Please.
Astounding performance! John is indeed a Legend. And so are you! I'm loving every moment of your videos.
And this is why this man has been an absolute star in Australia since the 60s. He has a superb instrument and knows EXACTLY how to use it.
What a great reaction. You know it’s good when grunts, groans, shivers and facial expressions says more than words ever can.
We just know he’s great, so interesting to hear why he is so great ❤
He's a national treasure here in Australia, and through out the world. One of the best singers live , would have to be one of the top 10 in the world for sure he'd be up there with Freddie Mercury another great vocalist artist and they both love the audience participation and are genuinely a nice guy. He is a legend
Being joyful is your super power Molly, and it is contagious watching you . Thank you!
No rattle not on purpose, John’s that great.
Awesome reaction and explanation.
Great education.
Hahaha… if there’s any suggestions??? Stand back my dear, you’re about to be inundated 😊
Thanks for the reaction
Your breakdown, explanation and playing with the notes is great.
I loved how you explained things, so we could appreciate just how brilliantly talented John Farnham is, even more ❤
They are chanting "SADIE" 😁 His first song was "Sadie the Cleaning Lady" in 1969
We constantly tease him about it! 😄
This is the last song of a 2 hour concert (before encores - "You're the voice" and "It's a Long Way to the Top" - you gotta listen to them!) and possibly the 10th concert in a row.
I am so happy you meet him on this song. I hope you check out all his other songs!
You are so going to love our John!!! 💖
I LOVE your technical explanation - THANK YOU! 💖 CHOOKAS!
Greetings from Australia. Thank you for recognizing and respecting our John Farnham 👍👍👍👍
Flawless performances such as this are such a rare treat
This is my favourite song of Johns and i love seeing reactions and explanations of his vocal prowess.
You have just witnessed a performance from the vocal master of the second half of the 20th century.
I was at this concert and I think it left the biggest impression on almost every group apart from Pink Floyd Pulse.
Now you have found "The Voice" John Farnham is a legend here in Australia. God bless you John.
