Humble greatness, standing with his hands in his pockets in front of 50,000 people in the free central park concert
500,000 1981 you could hear a pin drop
Ditto. Half a million showed up for a free concert Central Park
NOT A GOSPEL SONG, BUT A SONG FOR HUMANITY to be there for each other.
These two didn't understand what the song meant. The cocal and the lyrics are iconic.
Again...Central Park...1 million folks. Epic song written by Paul Simon incredibly performed by Art Garfunkel. These guys are iconic I hope you know.
It's amazing to see how humble he was after such an awesome performance
I’ve heard this song probably a thousand times over my many years. It still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
So emotional, beautiful, and powerful.
When the song was first written in 1969, America was in a state. Vietnam was in motion, Richard Nixon was president, and the country was still coping with the loss of Martin Luther King Jr. and Bobby Kennedy, who were both assassinated in 1968. “Bridge Over
Just my opinion cia?
The studio version is so beautiful it makes me cry…🖖🏻🇨🇦
The studio version is better because there are moments that are not replicated live.
This song has been chosen as the best song of the 70s in several polls/lists. I tend to agree. And Art Garfunkel has a golden voice.
The studio version is very crisp and clear. You should listen to it as well.
The studio version is the best the orchestration will give you chills.
the official recording had a lot more orchestra rising and falling, my heart could swell with that version. With both voices singing, it was wonderful.
I was a teen when this great song was released. As a teen you have so many emotions and when I was sad..this song really did comfort me, knowing your not alone in depressing thoughts. Made living endurable.
Art’s voice is Angelic!
Simon wrote it.. should've watched the vid where he joined Garfunkel
Paul Simon wrote this song and gave it to Art Garfunkel to sing . Some occations Paul Simon would join in .Its a agreat classic iconin song by them . Paul Simon was the brains behind all the tunes and lyrics . When they sing together it becomes something else . They had a lot of hits ofcourse . Try reacting to the BOXER . . My Favourite is MRS ROBINSON . from the theme to The Graduate . Thanks for bringing these guys to your Channel .John
Boxer is my favorite song.. the struggle of mankind..
Thanks for stopping by & giving us some recommendations!
Kindness cost nothing .. my girlfriend was on her way to work Made a stop to get coffee an a danish a homeless woman
Sitting on curb was asking for change to get food .my girl went inside got her food and a drink and some food for woman
Nearly in tears thanked my friend as she turned to walk away the woman handed her a note she went to her car and read
The note it said Today I was thinking I wanted to end my LIFE .Kindness cost nothing and the soul you save maybe your OWN
Their song "The Boxer" just gets me everything. And their song "Sound of Silence"
i wasn't sure if i wanted to click this ........ this is my late grandfathers favorite song. it's been about 10 years now since i've listened to this. i thought it was time. much luv guys.
Hope you had a positive experience with us!
Great song, great voice. Cool laid back stance while he’s singing it. Studio version more precise but still lovely.
This is from a free concert in Central Park that drew half a million.
I know this song from when it came out. It was and is a monument. So let the others keep their hand hands off.
As a senior in high school back in 1970, I was in a drama class. A girl was playing this on the piano after school and I sat down on the piano bench and sang this while turning the pages for her. I was not a powerful tenor like Art Garfunkel, but I guess I was adequate. The song was not that popular at the time and we got got a phenomenal reaction. We both became more popular as a result.
I've said before and will say again, Art Garfunkel's is one of the premiere male folk/pop vocalist voices of the 60s-70s era. If he and Karen Carpenter had ever had a child together, I can't help but think that the child would have been one of the greatest pop/rock/folk singing voices of all time. And, of course, Paul Simon is simply one of the great songwriters of my lifetime. I might suggest Sounds of Silence or Scarborough Fair, as a next Simon & Garfunkel song.
We've got Sounds of Silence right here for ya! ruclips.net/video/DiKhunMeI1c/видео.html
A MUST HEAR Classic In Dedication,, Honor & Memory Of The Legendary & Iconic Artist Vincent Van Gogh,, Don McLean "Vincent"
(Starry,, Starry Night) Live Performance Video..R.I.P. Vincent🙏❤️
You should try 'The Boxer" by Simon & Garfunkel. It's one of their sleeper hits that never gets the amount of recognition it deserves. I'd say it's in their top 5 songs. Tells a great story, and great music and vocals.
Paul Simon intended it to be a two verse Gospel tune. Art thought it could be bigger than that and encouraged Paul to write a third verse. That verse would send this song to a higher level. What a powerful delivery by Art interpreting Simon's intentions.
My Dad had at least one of their albums. I listened to it when I was in my teens back in the late 80s. It was great. You should do I am a Rock.
Check Elvis's version of this 1970 Live in Las Vegas. "For Paul Simon, the song’s creator, Elvis Presley’s version sits comfortably in a league of its own." Simon was startled to discover that Elvis had taken on a song he’d written, although he did say it was a “touch on the dramatic side, but so was the song”. He continued, stating: “When I first heard Elvis perform ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, it was unbelievable. I thought to myself: ‘How the hell can I compete with that?'”.
Be on the look out for it later this week ;)
I was there. In the middle of the song the crowd got so quiet it was insane for fourty thousand.
Paul Simon sang this song at the funeral of Victoria Soto, who was a teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary school were the mass shooting happened. The family were friends of his. I will always think of that when I hear the song. It is a whole new meaning of laying down for another as she stood between her students and the shooter.
I believe Art Garfunkel has the greatest voice of my generation.
Always loved them Garfunkel voice Always gave me shivers, they where a big part of the hippie movement peace and love, I have heard Garfunkel really belt this song this was quieter softer God bless
Now please react to Elvis performing this song.
""When I first heard Elvis perform Bridge Over Troubled Water it was unbelievable." (Via Rolling Stone). Simon added: "I thought to myself: 'How the hell can I compete with that?'""
This version is lovely, but you missed out on the GORGEOUS harmonies when Paul Simon sings with Art Garfunkel... and although I usually only prefer live renditions of songs, this is one where the STUDIO version - with the added orchestra - is BREATHTAKING.
Aside from Simon & Garfunkel's original, my other tied-for FAVORITE VERSION of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is by:
JOHN LEGEND
...His piano adds just a tiny bit of Gospel feel and his vocals are WARM & PASSIONATE. There are several of his live performances on YT... The two most recent ones - FROM 2022 - are my FAVORITES because he's added in the "SAIL ON SILVER GIRL" verse, which he dedicates to his Grandmother.
To me this song always seemed something a parent would sing to their child. I'll be there for you no matter what. Sailing behind, being there if needed, but not interfering with their life
This is my song for my children
Truly one of the great vocal performances on the original recording. And this vocal is amazing too!
I'm glad you mentioned the lyrics. Simon is a master lyricist & story teller. Some of the greatest to be put down on paper are from these two legends.
Indeed a phenomenal artist
Without the period in history as a reference you can't understand the significance of the lyrics.
@@timbong1871 I totally agree! Yet, they stand the test of time. Brilliant.
I grew up listening to Simon & Garfunkel & had a lot of their records. Absolutely loved them & their harmonies. You won't find a bad song. They have had so many hits such as "The Boxer", "Mrs. Robinson", "Kathy's Song", "Scarborough Fair", "At The Zoo", "Cecilia", "America", "I Am A Rock", "El Condor Pasa" etc. Paul Simon went on to have a huge solo career with lots of great songs. I prefer the studio versions of their songs to the live ones.
This one and I Am A Rock are my 2 favorite S&G songs! Hardly anybody reacts to I Am A Rock!
I was lucky enough to see Simon & Garfunkel in concert in 2009 in Sydney with absolute centre very front row tickets before ticket prices became insanely expensive. They were superb
This concert if I'm correct was their last time together . It was so huge in crowd , that it was even shown on tv .
Totally agree with you, Phil. I was in high school when this song first came out. I was dealing with some heartbreaking issues and a friend reached out to me. And so, at first, I related this song to that friend reaching out. As I grew older, I experienced more hardships. And this song became much more spiritual as I listened closely to the words. Not sure how Paul Simon meant for people to relate to it. But, it has brought me a lot of peace of comfort. And Art Garfunkel's vocals are like listening to an angel.
Great performance! I grew up on the studio version and to me it’s one of the most beautiful and powerful songs/recordings of all time. Art’s voice gives me chills every time I hear it and I’ve heard it countless times over the last 50 years.
This song brings back memories of some of the people I love and miss so much.❤
I'm sure that it has been pointed out that this is not Simon & Garfunkel, this is Art Garfunkel alone. Great song, however, a true classic!
Brings a tear to my eye whenever I hear it.
I like the live version. Whenever I'm feeling blue I listen to this song, it never fails to comfort me.
Never forget Hal Blaine, Larry Knechtel & Joe Osborn for helping to shape the songs into what we hear today
...and Roy Halee!
The Wrecking Crew …. Ohhhhh yeahhhhhh!!!
One of the most beautiful songs (the absolute best rendition) ever written and sang ❤❤❤
This is a great song from 1970. When you have a chance listen to Elvis Presley’s version. 1970 from Las Vegas.
You would also love Art's song All I Know. It was probably his biggest solo hit.
Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel are two of the premier song writers/performers.
I was excited to watch you guys react to this incredible song until I saw you're reacting to a live version. You don't know what you're missing not reacting to the studio version. 😮💨
Same here.
Great reaction Phil and Sam! You will have to listen to The Boxer and Scarborough Fair. They are also truely beautiful songs.
The whole album is fire
Just S&G performing for half a million of their friends.
A song for all relationship earth and heaven
Most older songs build up to a great finish if you notice
It's actually just Art.
Ù🎉🎉🎉This song is my all-time favorite song EVER!!! And I have heard many beautiful songs, but not like this song. It is the most beautiful hopeful song in music history!!! In the contemporary world of music today, "Say Something, " by Big Great World which is a very beautiful song today. 🎉🎉🎉
Listen to you... Then watch her.
SHE gets it.
Great song, good reaction, thank you. 😊
Larry Knechtel of the band Bread & the legendary Wrecking Crew received a Grammy for his piano on this
Since you “guys” love the beauty and message, of this song; I know you would love “She’s Leaving Home”, by The Beatles😃🎼
Scarborough Fair has been suggested by others but I'm posting this to see if enough people agree with a thumbs up, you might do the version with Andy Williams, as it's incredible.
It's titled Scarborough Fair/Canticle - Live, and is from the Andy Williams Show in 1968, with an interesting little intro from Andy himself.
The one I watched was put on RUclips in 2011 and has just over 2 million views, just to help pinpoint it
You’ve just given me tears for a moment in time now long since gone .
You should also listen to the studio version has a lot more to offer.
You HAVE to listen to the studio version -- PLEAAAAASE!
Great reaction, please react to the Elvis version from 1970 in Vegas.
Thank you! That one will be coming soon!
As wonderful as the Central Park concert was for all of us starved fans, there is no match for the original studio version of this song, which won a raft of Grammies for its engineering and performance. Worth a listen or 17...
Beautiful.
S&G were my first concert!
The voice of an angel.
DEFINITELY do "So Hyang"'s version of this! Only a matter of time haha
Since you've gotten so many great suggestions for more Simon & Garfunkel songs, I'd like to suggest another band, in case you're interested "Grand Funk Railroad - Inside looking Out 1969" Grand Funk laid the groundwork for such bands as Foreigner, Journey, Van Halen, Bon Jovi with its signature hard driving sound, soulful vocals and forceful pop melodies. Great stuff, bro
Iconic!
Austin Brown, power tenor for Home Free, has released a duet with Makena Hartlin an up and coming Nashville artist. It is absolutely stunning. Austin is a big deal. Look up his solo channel and see how many songs he has on there. I garauntee you will enjoy this. It's actually pretty incredible. So many say Austin's is the best tenor voice out there right now but he allows Makena to really shine in this and boy does she ever.
I think it depends on your taste in music. Austin is very good, though I personally don't care for the country sound. I'd argue Mitch Grassi is the best tenor, but I will say we are very lucky to have such good singers entertaining us today.
@@karehelene I agree that Mitch is incredible too. And it does depend on taste. Austin can sing without the twang due to his musical theater training. For example, his 'Bring Him Home.' And sometimes he lets her rip with that country boy sound. 😘 It's not real pronounced in this song.
@@karehelene And, we are lucky to have this wealth of fabulous singers with voices pitched high/low and all the beautiful tambers and stylings. I love so many genres of singing and country is just one that I enjoy. Give me some, jazz, pop, rock, blues, country, R & B, gospel, bluegrass. If the artist is good, I can go there.
I know others have commented this but you really need to hear the studio version of this beautiful song. I know this performance is lovely and very poignant because Simon & Garfunkel are reuniting here but this does not compare to the original studio version at all -- at least in my opinion. And it looks like, from the comments, that I am not alone in this regard. 😊 The original was the one that we were overwhelmed by when it came out in 1970, won all those awards and is still copied and revered today. Still holds up after more than 50 years. Trust me, you will not be wasting your time to listen to the original.
Great job . . . Greetings from Odie from Kansas! 😂😅❤ 9:34 9:34
I agree.
Please play this song from the album! It’s so beautiful and always chills!
I´d argue that there´s a much greater, mightier Live-version of this from 2009, Madison Square Garden. Plus: Here you don´t even really see writer Paul Simon or the band.
Probably the most powerful song ever recorded.
Notice how easily, Art sings the song in front of 500,000+ fans
Live from Central Park in 1981
This, I think is the only song where Art sings the entire song
Bars & Barbells- Thanks for this one. Bridge Over Troubled Water is one of my fav songs ever. Simon are Garfunkel are great but you musts do the cover of this one with Elvis Performing it live in 1972. Nobody does this song better than Elvis. Even Paul Simon said after he heard Elvis sing it How can anyone do it better than that.
Its hard to believe that they broke up in 1970 over 50 years ago These two were poor on the streets together at a young age.
This is after they split up. Paul Simon wrote it but since they recorded it together Art Garfunkel has the right to perform it. You need to find an earlier version with Paul included.
This is from Simon and Garfunkel's 1981 concert in Central Park. Paul Simon was definitely there, just didn't join Art on stage for this particlar song. Wish he had, miss his harmony.
@@lala_sparkles8035 Didn’t they perform several nights in a row? I’m pretty sure I saw this performed in the Concert in the Park with Paul Simon singing the third verse with Art, and Art’s rendition sounded closer to the studio version than this. Of course, it’s always top notch, no matter how much they switch things up.
brilliant
Why not listen to the record, as this is what we heard, loved and bought.
Nice reaction.
Great song. As an ex disc jockey I remember it not only as a good record, but a nice long one. Put it on and plenty if time to nip to the loo.
Jackie Evancho has a beautiful version of this song she sang with Corque du Soleil at age 13 or 14 I believe she was. She also was sick, lol, but since it was a one night only appearance, she dragged herself on stage. Wonderful job
This song was Garfunkel's high point.
But enventually Paul Simon dropped him because he was doing all the song writing and in most songs Paul sung at least half the song. Paul did not feel it was a 50/50 relationship and it really wasn't.
Paul went onto have a phenomenal solo career and Garfunkel didn't.
My favorite Paul Simon song is Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard.
OK that's a version of history that exists only in YOUR head.
I would love to see your reaction to Paul Simon video of his song, “Diamonds on the soles of her shoes”. It was filmed in Africa I believe. It’s a stunner. It will make you smile.
While you're in the mode of listening to superstars why not give a listen to Stevie Ray Vaughn, the goat of all guitarists. Listen to Texas. Flood or Life without you, 2 of his best.
Watch Elvis’s live version of this……..it is so good!
This song broke the doll up. Paul wrote it, but the. Critics just raved about Art's vocals
off to bed Thanks for the company
Hard to believe they didn’t get along all that well
Try" The Boxer" too!
You should listen to the studio version.
you need to do Elvis's live version of this song.
